Super missiles work, and since they do so much damage all at once they work very well against ghosts that don't sit still very long.

Yeah, I basically only used super missiles and charged shots on them so they never felt like they took long to beat down. I thought it was kinda refreshing, honestly, since most normal enemies have so little health it's nice to find something you can actually wail on for a bit.

drat, the Ice Beam is a lot cooler than the Wii version. Like with the other weapons they had to get rid of the effects. If you go into the ship there's a path that you can't cross at this point without a upgrade. Unfotunately it comes up way too late and backtracking out of the ship isn't fun at all.

Re: "I am not a smart man" and comments about a huge map. I play a lot of Super Metroid romhacks in my free time. Some are good, some are great, some are bad. Right now I'm playing an ungodly huge one that has no business being as large as it is. It's probably 4x the size of the original Super Metroid for no reason other than to be large and confusing. My friends have told me that I have some major sunk cost fallacy syndrome going on with it and they're honestly probably correct. I finally have all the upgrades in it after playing it on and off for the last month. The ingame timer on the file select is at 20 hours 58 minutes and who knows how much actual time I've spent playing. Probably closer to 35 hours. Anyway, there's a huge map to go with it. It was so big that imgur compressed it so I'm hosting it on my dropbox. Hopefully it doesn't kill my hosting. 7873 x 4339px, 1.6MB Yes, that's about 6 Golden Torizo fights and 4 Ridley fights in there. There's also apparently a 21-door locked door hunt to open the path to the final boss spread out through the whole world. I haven't brought myself to begin that yet. If not for this map, I would never had even started playing it. Probably shouldn't have started anyway but here we are. I live here now.

I heard Retro actually did use voice-acting for Samus as early as this game. Every other proper Metroid game had Samus do a narration of events thus far as the opening sequence, but usually with only text. Retro had Jennifer Hale narrate it, but cut it from the game at a later point. The voice files are still on disc. (Though, it's nothing you wouldn't have figured out already.) https://tcrf.net/Metroid_Prime#Samus_monologue

Was that the first Metroid in this LP? I didn't finish the game for some reason but I think I faced a Metroid much earlier, with dramatic music.

Stalagmite is the 'Tales of' spell where rocks come from the ground to destroy things, as such Stalactites must be the ones on the ceiling.

I remember from an old issue of Donald Duck, where they made the rule of thumb be stalactites are on the ceiling because a capital T forms an arrow and a capital M forms two upwards arrows.

The shorter mnemonic I learned: StalaCtites Come down from the Ceiling, StalaGmites Grow up from the Ground. This information has never been useful in my life except for when people are confused about which one is a stalactite and which is a stalagmite.

God drat, there are a lot of ways to remember the difference between stalactite and stalagmite. Speaking of huge maps of Super Metroid, I used to have a huge image which was the in-game map of Super Metroid with each tile replaced by the actual graphics for the area. Unfortunately it was several computers ago and I never saw the whole thing because I couldn't actually open it without the old shitbox crashing. I wonder if I could find it again? E: Wow, first result on Google without even any qualifiers to distinguish from a guide map. That was easy. Not actually http://www.snesmaps.com/maps/SuperMetroid/SuperMetroidMapZebes.png but the tags mean people with SALR won't automatically load a 16k*14k image. Hopefully this doesn't count as hotlinking, it's not like any image host will take it. Holy poo poo I never took a close look at it, it's annotated. Whoever made this is dedicated. Does the Trilogy version expand the aspect ratio to 16:10 or 16:9? Even when I first played I always thought the 4:3 seems to be really limiting with how much you can actually see.
|
# ? Jan 24, 2016 16:41 |

Yes, the trilogy version does have 16:9 aspect ratio. It's not perfect, obviously... the HUD elements are just stretched wider and the cutscenes are zoomed in to fill in the extra space, but having a wider field of view is a godsend.

The guide that you could get with some copies of the game (I got two somehow) had portions that were pictured fully and some sections that were just black bars, like Maridia. Guess where I was stuck for 2-5 years of never finishing the game.

You say that this could be considered a ho-hum part of the game, but to me it's actually one or my favorites. I actually like the intro track to the submerged frigate crash a lot more than the main theme (probably just because the intro theme gets overlooked a lot, and I'm trying to make up for that), and Phazon Mines is one of my favorite areas of the game. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next update. Edit: Say what you want about Space Pirates having questionable ideas about safety, they make excellent rest stations. The aquarium was a nice touch. EagerSleeper fucked around with this message at 06:11 on Jan 27, 2016 |

One of my favorite details in this game is that you can see the electrical conduits running from the power generators you activate to whatever they're powering. Also per your conversation on not getting notice of where items are, one of the concept art galleries you can unlock has a production map of the entire game, which marks where every item in the game is located. When I finished the game one missile expansion short, you can bet your rear end I painstakingly scoured that map looking for the one I had missed. I found it too!
