I liked the first gen TC. Looked pretty sleek. Obvioisly too sleek for Toyota's lineup. Plus they have the potential to make a poo poo load of power.

It's the kind that's a bunch of traces on a piece of glass. I never realized there was a powered amplifier with it and the adapter just labels the wire "power ant."

Oh, nothing special. Last time I was working on the mower, I left a screw driver on the battery tray. Went out to get the snow off the drive and its just back firing and running like poo poo. Figured the points and coil were poo poo. Called and ordered parts, put in new points (I already did that a couple months ago). Still runs like poo poo. Get ready to replace the coil, and notice that the screw driver that I am missing fell down and was hitting the coil to ground it out and making it obviously fire at the incorrect time.

Moral of the story: I figured out where those missing sockets and tools go. Then end up rearing their ugly heads at the most inappropriate times.

I was looking at renting a challenger r/t for my father sometime this summer. When he got out of vietnam the first thing he spent his money on was a plum crazy challenger which unfortunately he no longer has and theres a local place that rents it out for $149/day as long as its Mon-Thurs. Hes battled 2 cancers over the past five years, just had both of knees replaced and he deserves a little slice of his youth for a few days.

Not sure if I want to do a 3 day M-Th rental ($450) or a 2 day weekend rental ($490).

Ahem...

Let me slap some sense in to you.

You probably got into IT because you were a like DUDE I LOVE COMPUTERS I CAN DO THAT FOR A LIVING BECAUSE I GET TO WORK ON WHAT I LOVE IT WILL BE AWESOME. Now you hate it. Now you want to go into auto repair because you're all like DUDE I LOVE CARS I CAN WORK ON CARS AND DO THAT FOR A LIVING BECAUSE I GET TO WORK ON WHAT I LOVE IT WILL BE AWESOME.

Am I right?

Don't.

loving.

Do.

It.

A job is just a job. It puts a roof over your head, food in your belly, buys you the booze to get drink. It affords you the opportunity to things you LOVE to do. Very few people have a job they love or that they think is challenging or whatever. It's nothing more than a job. It isn't who you are, it isn't what you identify yourself with or as. It's just something you do to make money.

The surefire way to immediately hate something you love is to do it for 40 plus hours a week. I don't care what it is. I love flying a plane, but you would have to pay me an obscene amount of money to do it as a career. I love to cook, and I'm really freaking good at it, but drat sure ain't gonna go back into the restaurant industry because gently caress that.

Life isn't a Friends episode where everybody gets the job they love and do that the rest of their lives. Keep your hobbies and what you love and want to do separate from what earns you a paycheck.

Sack up, buttercup.

I hate my job. I've got 3 offices, 68 people, and 4 business streams to manage. But it is a means to an end, and that's it. At the end of the day, I go home happy because of what the job affords ME to do.

This is what everyone tells me, but I have never been "DUDE I LOVE COMPUTERS." I groked them when I was younger and the only reason I cared about them was because I got to play video games on them and if I could build a PC myself I'd save a buncha dollary-doos to spend on doritos and mt dew. In fact I actively avoided turning computer work into my career and in the last 14 years have had 23 jobs with just the last 3 being computer/tech related. I'm good at what I do and I'm competent, but I don't care. And yeah, life isn't a Friends episode, but 90% of my friends love (or at least don't despise) what they do. Guess I just feel left out. I should probably just get back in the weight room to work through this kinda poo poo instead of drinking so much. I know my 8-5 isn't my life, and I know I need an attitude adjustment, and I whine about this poo poo way more than anyone else would. Blergh, brains.

Yeah, never ever do your favorite hobby as a job.

I used to be BIG into computers, messing around with them to do all kinds of things and generally being 110% on top of everything going on in that field, including gaming and constantly upgrading my PC. I was elbow-deep in my Linux installation and tweaked the hell out of it for fun.

After 8½ years in IT, I don't give a poo poo anymore. If things just work reasonably well that's good enough for me, I don't have the drive to tweak anything now. And I'm not even in a hardware or programming position, I do IT Service Management, it's been years since I even wrote a script at work or did anything that would be described as "hands-on". And it's still enough to make me annoyed rather than motivated if my PC doesn't something stupid and I have to fix it.

I stay on Arch Linux for familiarity reasons, but I could just as well use Windows 10, I don't really do much of anything that requires a *nix system, honestly. I just stick with it because I know it really well by now and I dislike the lack of configurability in the Windows UI.

So I've gotten into a lot of other things instead, and I'm acutely aware that as much as I enjoy those things, I should never ever try to make a career of them.

Right, yeah, I'm in Minneapolis and I don't think I'd ever want to work on cars for a living even if it pops up in my brain every few months. Daily drivers that are more than, say, 7 years old are basically rust-infested to the point where you can't adjust things like tie rods cuz there aren't threads anymore, just rusty bits. I brought up auto work in my first bloo-bloo post cuz I wanted to do that when I was in high school and dad said "no, you'll hate it, you should do computers instead." In all likelihood I'd be saying the same thing about IT if I worked in a garage so I should figure out what I like about this career and find something that I at least don't hate.
