What's wrong with it? I'm not asking because I bought a copy or anything like that. Just curious.

the visuals are drab and muddy, the gameplay itself hasn't been improved or streamlined at all from the NES original, all of the bonus chapters require killing your army off (which is crazy counterintuitive for a fire emblem game), marth is a wet blanket of a protagonist

Well SD is available on the Eshop for £9. If you're really starved for FE it's probably worth that.

I wish good localization wasn't so costly for companies...in the era of things like the Virtual Console, it'd be so perfect to put up old games that never made it out of Japan.

Maybe Nintendo will discover crowdfunding at some point...

Their reason given for not localizing fan demanded games like Mother 3 is that the cost to do so outweighs the benefit they'd get from selling it. Crowdfunding would let fans literally vote with dollars and pay for a project localization without leaving Nintendo holding the bag if it does end up not selling well.

Early access and paid betas as things are bad enough, I don't think we need 'major publishers doing crowdfunding' added on. It's a terrible deal from a consumer perspective to have to pay money up front before a company will even consider a project.

I tried the demo and I didn't really get into it. Definitely seemed to be polarizing when it came out, people either went "oh my god this is awesome" or "what does this even want me to do?".

In concept, Early Access is a great idea. Do some companies/projects misuse it? Sure. But that's true of literally anything.

As for crowdfunding, most crowdfunding campaigns only collect money if a funding goal is reached. So you're not paying money to have a company consider. You're either paying to make it happen or not paying at all. On the fulfillment end, I trust Nintendo to take crowdfunded money and use it for its intended purpose and deliver a final product a lot more than I trust random strangers on Kickstarter or whatever to do the same.

The whole point is Nintendo is saying "we don't see the financial viability in paying for this project; the expense outweighs projected profits". Then the crowd steps in and says "we will pay for the project", reducing Nintendo's investment in the project merely to man hours, rather than a financial stake.

Actually if there's one thing I wouldn't begrudge Mega corporations for crowd funding it would be localization.

If you put up Mother 3 or The Great Ace Attorney or Rhythm Heaven on kickstarter they'd be funded in less than a day.
