We're arguing over whether to (and where) to host a wiki.

I say just put it on wikidot because gently caress hosting it locally, but the ex IT dork who won't loving clean up his workspace and instead spreads his poo poo in the electronics room wants to set up a server and host locally for some reason.

we have some actual infra for our setup, we have wordpress and mediawiki running on an EC2 container and another EC2 container that contains a FreeIPA install (LDAP + DNS + cert management + kerberos) that was, at one point, master-master replicated back to the hackerspace (we haven't turned our server rack back on since we moved, there's currently a bunch of lumber in front of it)

it's still more janitoring than i have time for. thankfully it's pretty locked down to members-only write access so nothing really ever breaks through malicious action

i'm currently playing with lets encrypt and ugggggggh i wish we had the funds to pay for outsourcing this entire mess

I remember we had a cobalt raq which was alright I guess. Best thing about it was the ability to set ip and all that poo poo from the front panel with buttons and lcd instead of needing to hook it up to monitor and junk just to configure the network. Just plug it into where it needs to be and config it headless via the panel and done.

being good at a thing is mostly incidental to being good at teaching it to kids, especially in a short-term environment. your job is to provide an opportunity for the kids who are going to get excited about programming to do so; they'll take it from there.

i just mean, find the right connector, and you can probably bodge together something that gives you the right voltage. use a bench supply if you have to. but if its just that you dont happen to have the thing onhand, then whatever

looks like you can get all the voltages and current you need from an atx supply (check the -12V, i'm not sure if they go up to 0.5A or not)

[Noisebridge-discuss] Heat press fixed!
Zach R

Hey all,

So I fixed the heatpress (again?) last night. Kyle showed me the issue where it was blowing fuses and the fuse holder had become a melted mess.

Note, this press uses a 15A fuse rated at (at least) 125v. (Kyle, can you pick one of these up for it?)

There is a note on it now to Plug it in when using it and unplugging it when done. This will likely keep the fuse from blowing since there won't be an inductive spark / surge across the live power switch.

I'd appreciate someone adding that info to the wiki.

What I did:
1) Fixed the connection on the power switch and soldered one of the loose clamp terminals

2) re routed wires for the fuse to the outside and installed fuse holder externally

3) put shittons of tape on everything

4) wrote notes on how to use

Time will tell if this fix will last but I think it will be OK. LED display aside, there are no circuits to speak of in this thing and it is a "dumb" heating element attached to a transformer / relay.

then you can string the members along with "oh man, the landlord's being an rear end in a top hat again, but don't worry i'll try to talk him down"
