You know, in terms of needing a one-off emergency flip device, you could do it pretty easily and compact with an airbag and compressed gas. Or maybe a piston powered by a small explosive charge or similar.

Ray Billings said it was the only robot he had serious concerns about, because of Tombstone's top vulnerability. It's a real shame because Beta was the most principled British bot and would've represented their country a lot better than the other bots from that side of the pond.

I think Ray said Tombstone's top and bottom armor is just 3/8" Lexan. I guess that's what happens when you devote ~30% of the weight limit towards the spinner bar. Still, there's no way that would stand up to Beta's hammer.

Figured I'd bump this with some info on season 2 for anyone still interested. No official announcement from ABC yet, but the creators are proceeding as if it has been greenlit (7:30 ish in this video): https://youtu.be/FHjDwEr7ajY Quick summary: they're trying to air it before the Olympics next year. 48 bots this time (probably with a few alternates) with an open registration so anyone can enter. Entrants will be hand picked with priority given to cool/interesting bots. There will also be a little more time for builders to prepare for this one. So follow up on what I said about going to the filming next week, my dad and I got tickets because one of the people who works for is on a team, but my dad couldn't remember which one. Today my dad told me he remembered, and turns out the guy is on Team Inertia Labs ANd he is gonna try to get us into the pit to hang out for a while  Its like I'm 13 all over again

I kinda wish my uni could've gotten a thing organized to try and compete. I'm sure me and some other engineers could've found some time and had a blast putting things together and testing it out with the school and sponsors footing the bill.

So, I just got back from a filming tonight, and I dont really want to say too much, other than I saw probably the single greatest moment in battlebots history tonight. I cant wait to watch that fight again. Also, major props to the crew running it. They were really on the ball, and outside of one incident, they really kept down time to minimum. I would seriously recommend anyone in the LA area to try to go this weekend.

Whyachi vs multibots has such potential to be an incredible match. I was lucky enough to watch a preseason match in season 5 featuring a powerful spinner vs 3 multibots. (Final Destiny vs The Swarm) Watching a robot get hit by a spinning weapon that weighs more than said robot is...entertaining. One of the Swarm robots in that fight was launched across the area like a bullet.
