Considering it's 16-4 in the 9th I feel like I can jump the gun a little here With tonight's win, the Astros win back to back games for the first time this season. They are the last team in baseball to do so. They also won only their second series of the year. It's May 4th This was supposed to be a big time World Series contender.

Trout has been red hot the last two weeks and now has a higher WAR than the rest of the Angels players combined. Angels might be down to 3 starters if Richards is unable to go tomorrow, he left his last start after 4 innings. Wilson, Heaney and Skaggs are all out until at least June (I don't think any are even throwing anymore) and Shoemaker has a 9+ ERA in 20+ innings so far. Weaver, Santiago and Tropeano, and then bullpen days now.

The the Japanese cable channel equivalent to ESPN, Jsports, and the Satalite broadcaster, BS, are the only way to watch MLB games. They pick who I and the Japanese public watch, and that is Ichiro going for 3,000. Ichiro is way more popular if commercials are any way to judge. I see a Ichiro commercial once a day at least. The other guy dont have any that I remember. Anyways… But MLB TV is nice in Japan no blackouts except for the playoffs.

NHK's broadcast satellite channel, BS1 (lol), has a few MLB games every week including the occasional Iwakuma start. Tanaka and Maeda are probably higher priority at the moment, tho. I'd recommend getting in on a MLB.tv sub to watch American baseball in Japan.

Intruder posted:Considering it's 16-4 in the 9th I feel like I can jump the gun a little here I mean, it's still really early, and it's not like the rest of the division has run away from you. Still tons of AL West games to make the deficit up, and that roster's too talented to stay dormant for long--unless they react poorly to losing and start falling apart mentally. Of course, you have to wonder about Keuchel...but maybe it's just early season rust? Or perhaps he's playing through injury. Seems way too early in his career for that kind of velocity dip.

He now has a 29/3 K/BB to go with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings so far this year, in a league that is basically made up of a bunch of Coors Fields. I agree we probably won't see him this month, but I'm really hoping he gets called up before his 20th birthday in August just for the novelty of a 19 year old pitcher.

tadashi posted:I love that Cruz has been telling park factors to gently caress off ever since arriving in Seattle. What's super cool about Cruz is that since leaving Texas, his walk rate has slowly increased each year. So even though he's not hitting dingers at the rate he was last year (his slugging is still over .500 right now), his walk rate is at 12%, so he's still improving his approach.

Rick and Tony Time: Say Brooks Kieshknick had panned out, and you had a platonic 300/400/500 hitter who could also give you a 1.100 WHIP and a 3.25 ERA, with acceptable defense at a middling position like 3B... how would you play them? Pitch, off day, then batting 3 days, then Pitch again? Can you hit the day after pitching?

Well it depends on how you want to play it and if you want to stipulate that his pitching effects his hitting and vice versa. I'd say pitch (and forgo the dh)/dh/3b/3b/3b. That pitcher is a decent #2-#3 starter, but that third basemen is an MVP candidate.

Could you spell someone in LF (lookin' at you, Shelby Miller)? Would you take up a bat and flail ineffectively? I wanted to describe a player who was a decent #2 starter and a solid role-player in the lineup. If those numbers are too good, adjust them down until he's posting a 120ish OPS. I hadn't considered DHing, but I don't think the limited amount of fielding done affects the player that much. I'll ask Tom Glavine on twitter, see what he says.
