A game can be evenly matched and dull at the same time.

Both teams are good and very well coached. After Tampa clawed back in the first, it was a close game throughout.

Still pretty drat boring after the first (aside from like... 30 seconds at the end of the second period, and a few chances in the third).

Even with the win, I think the Pens are in trouble, or at least not out of the woods. They just got their #2 dman back from a long term injury and instead of showing rust, he scores a goal. The Bolts are getting great tending by Valiveski and the pressure was definitely ramped up on him this game. It might just be all smoke and mirrors, but I think they might get Stamkos back this series and who knows with Bishop. That the Pens didn't put them in the ground, or at least win in regulation suggests that the two teams are pretty evenly matched right now. The Lightning still have room to improve, the Pens have all the deck chairs they are going to get. It looks like a long series, but after Tampa lost game 1 to the Isles, I thought that series would go the distance too. Should be fun to watch regardless.

I would not like to see Stamkos come back. Mostly because he is a very good hockey player and I am a fan of his opponent, but also because I don't want to see a dude die on the ice.

What kind of surgery did he have for blood clots? To break up a clot? I didn't know there was a surgery

I agree with your sentiment completely! Something can be two things at the same time! These teams have fought through very good competitors to get to this point of the playoffs and one can only hope that the series continues to be competitive, showcasing some of the best talent the world has to offer on both sides of the ice.

The clot was in his neck i think and they do surgery to break up the clot, then he has to be put on blood thinners.

they literally took out a rib, at the top, to put less stress on one of the veins in his shoulder so that he won't have anymore clot problems. HFboards has several MDs, that also happen to be pens fans, on the case saying he will die if he plays again.

The Pens dominated possession last night. That game really shouldn't have been that close.

That said you'd expect the Pens to have that kind of effort and desperation knowing the series could have gotten away from them in a hurry if they'd dropped that game. I doubt the possession will be that lopsided in Tampa.

The Pens keep getting away with not burying teams on their powerplay and with getting relatively middling production from their top six and that has to change or it will bite them eventually. Sid finally scoring a goal last night will hopefully open the floodgates a bit for him.

21 And the LORD Yzerman caused a deep sleep to fall upon Steven, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD Yzerman had taken from Stamkos, made he a winger, and brought him unto Stamkos.

23 And Steven said,
'This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh:
he shall be called Drouin,
because he was taken out of Stamkos.'

24 Therefore shall a man leave the team of his draft, and shall hand the C unto his successor as Marty before him: and then repeat the cycle.

25 And they were both greedy, Stamkos and Drouin, and were not ashamed.

I hope he does not die from playing hockey, but blood clots are scary. I don't think it's gone well for other players that have had clots, but obviously I don't know all of the specifics of every situation.

I know theyve made the SCF 3 times (and been swept 3 times) so this seemed odd but then I remembered there was 1 less playoff round back then.

Yeah, but they made the SCF only because they lumped the expansion teams into the same division, guaranteeing one of them made it. The Blues were basically kings of poo poo mountain.

I would still take this over watching your team dominate all year, get on a roll heading into the cup finals, win the first two games and then completely implode and lose game 7 on home ice. Words cannot describe how soul crushing that was. I realize the 2011 Finals has been beaten to death, but man that was my Vietnam. :smith:
