Coming across a star named "LOL Dongs" isn't what you consider compelling multiplayer?

Also to never buy anything on release. At least wait a year or two for all the patches to remove the game crashing bugs and expansions to come out. Why bother playing something half finished?

I was talking to a girl that works at Gamestop (we were at a party though so it wasn't like she was trying to sell me something) and she honestly genuinly believed that not only is there a point to preordering in the age of digital goods, but that it is better than buying a game beforehand because 'if you know you're going to buy it anyway then you can also get the free thing that comes with it.'

I didn't even try to explain that no one is forcing you to buy anything at all but that confused her.

She was nice though.

actually they said "sure there will be multiplayer, but everyone will be really far apart so it will be rare" then they quietly killed that feature and didnt bother to correct their earlier statment

This seems like the :aaa: factor will wear off very quickly. Like, great you can fly into space or onto Planet D4nkNugZ and look at the random flora and fauna, but how many times can you do that without getting bored? 5? 10? Without a narrative or gameplay that rewards you in a meaningful way, I'd only see this appealing to a very small percentage of people who love fantasizing about sci-fi.

its one of the earlier gameplay videos, he gets asked about multiplayer and says it will be "rare" but you might bump into other players (it it would be the only time you get to see what player models look like). now they are even more vague when asked. they really don't want people knowing what the actual feature of this game are

Ah ok so you don't know that they removed the feature, you're just speculating, got it

(That said lol if anyone buys this game for the multiplayer, that's like buying Dark Souls for the multiplayer)

http://www.itechpost.com/articles/18984/20160523/no-mans-sky-multiplayer-finally-explained-release-dates-revealed.htm

quote:

In their words, say you are escorting your faction's starships and an enemy fleet warps in, then you go ahead and defend your ships, much like how you have done many many times before. But then, there is this tiny fraction of a chance that you will encounter another ship that simply does not move like an npc.

The enemy could be doing evasive maneuvers like you have never seen before—or do yourself. You try to fend off the unexpected attack but out of nowhere, the enemy spins to your rear side and blasts you to your latest death on No Man's Sky.

This is the only way a multiplayer type of game can happen, and it is, again, a very slim chance. What is the reason for this? Sean Murray founder and creator of No Man's Sky, had this to say, “If you want a first-person shooter-sci-fi-around-on-a-planet game play Destiny. It's a really good game. Go play that. We're not trying to do that.”

Murray added, “What we want is for the player to play with a sense of that other people have been there before. So what will reasonably happen is going to a planet and discovering that someone else has been there before you. You will see traces of them, like creatures they've named and things they left behind.”

You can translate pre-release hype by picking out any very specific examples of something and assume that they are in fact the only examples of whatever. In this case "tiny fraction of a chance" means "we haven't implemented this yet", and "you'll see traces like garbage and stupid names every once in a while" means "the only multiplayer features are garbage and stupid names once in a while"

That second translation is probably accurate, but it seems pretty obvious to me that "tiny fraction of a chance" refers to the sheer improbability of coming across another player, given how huge the game's galaxy is.
