I feel like Voivod is a band I really should like by all quantifiable criteria, but somehow they've never yet clicked for me. One of these years...

I mostly only listen to Voivod's first album, but it's definitely an all-time favorite. Also here's more primitive 80s Canadian thrash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-JULYl03wU

Angel Rat and the s/t are less "demanding" albums, if you want to travel that Voivod route. They're borderline alternative rock, though. I dig 'em. Of course with the exception of "The Prow" from Angel Rat, you won't hear much in this style at their show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQXsTSmKQM8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjmuwNh1wNE On another note, there is somehow a Cold Meat Industry tribute album featuring death metal bands coming out via Iron Bonehead/NWN. Sinistrous Diabolus - Sacrifice (Aghast) Spire - Death, Just Only Death... (In Slaughter Natives) Temple Nightside - Winds of a Lost Soul (Arcana) Grave Upheaval - Necrose Evangelicum (Brighter Death Now) Antediluvian - Sephiroth (Raison d'être) Vassafor - Infernal Afairs II Doom Legion Ultra (MZ.412)

One of the best parts of Google Music is putting it on random and getting a real gem. SIG:AR:TYR - Northern http://sigartyr.bandcamp.com/ It's vikingy ( in theme, if nothing else ), blackish metal with this fantastic guitar tone, rolling riffs, killer solos, great vocals, and even these great classical guitar sections. A+ would recommend, no merch though other than a CD. [edit] It's from Canada

Spire are pretty good but they're released like two EPs and nothing else so it's a bit hard to say much about them.

Faffel posted:Also Voivod are coming here in two weeks. Should I start trying to enjoy them? I can't really speak too much to Voivod but if this happens to be on the tour with King Parrot, definitely still consider that show. KP is a bunch of great dudes with big hearts for the music they play, so even if Voivod lets you down, a good show awaits. I've seen them three times now and unfortunately this tour isn't bringing them back around my way, or it'd be the fourth.

It should be mentioned that King Parrot's actual music isn't that great but they are batshit insane on stage.

They have a couple songs that find some good grooves, but they're a show-and-crowd-first kinda band. Definitely take that into account, but I think the overall show plus their set would be 100% worth ticket price.

You might enjoy Saturnus' "Paradise Belongs to You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tByANvvhgAs It is not so much a love letter to Pink Floyd like Wildhoney is, but it is full of that gothic'y doom metal. It is also just a good album.

Skeletonwitch tour coming up this summer: We have 3 local bands opening up so it seems it'll change in every city. Time to see how this new singer is but im not holding out much hope. Is there a remote possibility of Alkaloid touring in the US any time soon? Malkuth Grimiore was probably my favorite album of last year.
