The crunch vote on the Snooper's Charter comes tomorrow. The SNP, who abstained on second reading, have not got the concessions from Theresa May that they wanted, and will accordingly vote against it. Labour, who also abstained on second reading, are reportedly waiting for concessions to be considered in Report. Regardless of whether those concessions are granted, some former Labour ministers are contemplating voting for it anyway.

I've always found it a bit baffling that these people seem to simultaneously believe that the government and legal system are literal agents of Satan, but also incapable of doing anything to you if you refuse to play along, unlike any other oppressive institution in recorded history. It massively would. Almost all serious pharma and biotech research would gently caress off as quickly as possible. (I suspect Ireland could do quite nicely out of that.) Being in an EEA country is massively important to drug development from a regulatory standpoint and is only going to get more so over the next few years. You can also look forward to getting access to new therapies years after the rest of the continent if we leave (and at a much higher price.)

This makes sense if they were literal agents of Satan, because much like vampires they can easily overpower entire towns but they can't gain access to a property without being invited, and they can be warded off with bizarre and highly specific things.

It would.

A huge amount of our scientific research funding comes from the EU, and whilst we'd have a bunch more money if we left, like gently caress our current government would spend it on scientific research, not to mention that free movement of people is VITAL to modern Big Data research given how internationalised such research is.

This is the main reason I voted Remain.
