Does anyone know if Verizon will be offering a promotion for the iPhone 7 launch? I see that both T-Mobile and Sprint are offering it for free right now with trade in of iPhone 6 or newer. I hope Verizon will announce something similar soon.

I'm not around to check this weekend but I would bet they announce any promos today.

I'll probably be getting an iPhone 7 at some point, but sadly Verizon makes employees wait until about November so inventory goes to customers.

$20 upgrade fee was waived for online orders (at least it was on Tues) and our salesperson in the store took it off after checking. I think the promo was still showing up in my Verizon app this morning when I looked.

Hey, has anyone else dealt with this? I haven't had the problem but apparently it is affecting some people.

Hundreds of Verizon customers are battling data over-limit fees: Money Matters

If you're getting hit by data over-limit charges, you might take comfort knowing you're not alone, no matter what Verizon tells you. And you may be encouraged by a couple of things: I've gotten a few answers this week. And I'm not done yet.

Like me, many Verizon customers' data use is soaring even when they're on their home Wi-Fi the majority of the time. Even when their phone settings are changed to prevent the phone from switching to data if the Wi-Fi is weak.

Verizon is logging data on people's accounts when they are sleeping and not using their phones.
Or being used when their phones are off.
Or when the phone's owner has died.

No, my Verizon app actually reports about 200 megabytes less than my phone's inbuilt data usage graph. Even if Verizon is doing that stuff, I'd be willing to say it probably isn't a significant amount of data.

The way it works is that they still have a monthly payment on your bill, but after receiving the trade-in they will give you credit equal to the amount of the device payment. This keeps you locked in for the 2 years still. Credits may take a few weeks to kick in.

quote:

So, you can get a 32GB iPhone 7 for free as long as your trade-in is worth the full $650. You’ll have to mail your old phone to Verizon and beginning 2-3 months later, you’ll see a credit on your Verizon bill each month for 24 months, ultimately totaling $650 and canceling out your new device payment each month. You can also use this deal and apply the credit (up to $650) toward a more expensive iPhone model, and you’ll only have to pay the difference — again, spread out over 24 months.

http://bgr.com/2016/09/09/iphone-7-preorder-verizon-free-deal/

It says "up to" $650 credit, you'd have to pay the difference for the 128gb.

I can't find out how much a iPhone 6 64gb is worth though because I'm still paying mine off and it won't give me a trade in value.

I'm getting some not-very-reassuring answers from Verizon regarding the trade-in promo - last night when I placed the order, I was shown that I had a pending $650 trade-in for one of my lines, but following checkout, I don't see any confirmation of the trade-in coming through as part of the order confirmation. I called Verizon and they insisted that there was no issue with this - I would be able to separate out the trade-in request from the phone preorder and still receive the credit, and I could simply go to the website and order the trade-in kit separately. When I do so, however, I'm only offered $220 for the old iPhone. Is there any way I can confirm that the promo will be honored for this line? Or is my best bet to cancel the order/trade-in and resubmit?

edit: lmao just noticed that the order status is also applying the trade ins to the incorrect lines (i.e. phone #2 trade in applied against line #1). This is the last time I preorder through a carrier website.

I preordered through Verizon and did the trade in for my iPhone 6. They will send a separate Trade-In Confirmation email soon after. This will include the confirmation ID number and will state the estimated value of $27.08/mo for 24 months* along with the instructions on how to send in your old phone.

I have a feeling Verizon probably rushed to match the T-Mobile promo so it could be a glitch in the system. So short term it isn't showing it, long term you will get the promo.

The 75% is with upgrade so unfortunately I don't think so. That being said, you can always pay off the balance and then trade in phone if the difference is similar.

How much checking does Verizon do as to the health of phones that get traded in? The battery on my iPhone 6 is shot to hell - will/would they reject it for this?

The screen also has a tiiiiiiny crack in it, but if I'm guaranteed to get $650 for it by trading it in, it might be worth getting the screen fixed and then trading it right in.

EDIT2: I also have an iPhone 5 in flawless condition, so I might just trade that in instead since the $400 they're offering for iPhone5 trade in is likely the highest I'll ever get for it at this point.

All that matters is the phone turns on, charges and is not cracked in any way. So you would have to get that crack fixed.

Ok, I think I have this all understood, but I'd like to run it by someone here to make sure all my info is right. I'm going to head to the Verizon store later, but I really have problems believing the information they give me after the time I went a few years ago when they were still charging for texts and the sales person was pressuring us to get a higher text plan because "Apple is going to start charging you for using iMessages"

I'm currently on a family plan with my wife. Both of us signed up for 2-year contracts in 2014, so we're both eligible for an upgrade. We pay about $155 a month for the More Everything Plan.

She wants to keep her iPhone 6, which is fine with me. I want to upgrade to the iPhone 7+, and trade in my old iPhone 5 (can't trade in my 6 because of a crack in the screen. I might get it fixed and sell the phone on Craigslist or through Swappa, but that's a different issue.) I'm ALSO going to want to get the iPhone 8 or whatever the new phone is called next year through Apple's Update plan. The only reason I want to buy from Verizon this year rather than Apple is because Verizon is going to give me $400 for my iPhone 5, which is probably my last chance to get any decent amount of money for that old phone.

So, my understanding is -

I'll be switching to "The New Verizon Plan" at 8GB/mo - $70/mo
My iPhone monthly access - $20/mo
Wife's iPhone monthly access - $20/mo
Installments of payments towards 128GB iPhone 7+ - $36.24/mo
Credits from trade in of iPhone 5 - $-16.66/mo

Total monthly payment - $129.58/mo

My questions are:

- Does this mean I'm signing a new 2-year contract by buying the phone through Verizon?
- In a year when the iPhone 8 comes out, will I be allowed to pay off the balance on my iPhone 7+ all at once (therefore removing the $36.24 from my bill every month while keeping the $16.66 credit for another 12 months), and then buy the iPhone 8 through Apple and put it on my Verizon account? This is the part I'm most confused about, because I don't know if buying the 7+ from Verizon means they won't let me put a new phone on that line, even if I buy it from Apple.

Sorry for the huge "how do i buy phone :downs: " post, but they purposely make it as confusing as possible and I like to be properly informed before I go into the store!

Ugh, I knew there was gonna be some flaw in my grand master plan.

So theoretically, next year when I'm trying to get the iPhone 8, would I be able to swap my iPhone 7 to my wife's line, and therefore still have the active device payment plan on my account and keep getting the trade-in credit?

EDIT: Actually, would I be allowed to upgrade to the iPhone 8 next year if I bought it from Verizon instead? I'm imagining next year it's "pay off iPhone 7+ (and sell it independently) -> buy iPhone 8 on payment plan -> therefore still have active device payment on account so keep getting the credits for another 12 months".

The main/only reason I want to switch to Apple's payment plan is because the phones come with AppleCare+. But if doing that means I have to lose out on 12 months of credits then I'll have to rethink my plan.

I think I know the answer to this, but I'm partially in denial.

When I preordered my iPhone 7, the shipping address was locked to my mother's (she's the main account holder) billing address. She lives over 300 miles away. Will Verizon change the shipping info to my house instead if my mother were to call and request that? Kind of a letdown that I have to wait for the phone to get to her place, and then wait presumably another week after she goes to the post office and sends the phone hundreds of miles in another direction.

Its not like you're getting a deal on Applecare+ with the Apple Upgrade Program. The cost is just rolled into the payment plan instead of paying $129 up front.

I see it this way; if the 8 is hot poo poo and I want to upgrade next year, I'm still getting $325 trade in on an iPhone 6 64GB which is pretty decent IMO. I could probably get a little more private party but then you have to deal with craigslist.

Verizon does annual upgrades on the iPhone, so my understanding would be that you trade in the iPhone 5 towards the 7, and when the 8 comes out, you give them your 7 in exchange for the 8, and basically swap the device payment from the 7 to the 8. I don't see why the trade-in credit from the 5 would go away, but you should probably call CS and ask if that's your plan.

My wife just upgraded to a 6s a few days ago, and our sales guy said if she wanted to upgrade to an 8 when they launch next year, they would take her current phone, give her the 8, and she'd continue from then paying the monthly payment of an 8 instead of the 6s.

This current iPhone deal is special. They're offering a large trade-in credit ($400 for a 5 series) but that credit is incremental over 24 months (so $16.67/mo) and you only get the credit as long as the iPhone 7 you buy stays active on its line. So if you trade in the 7 after one year, no more credits -- meaning effectively you got ~$200 for your 5.

Thanks for this. Once I realized that the AppleCare+ was built into the price of the AUP, rather than tossed in as a benefit from buying from Apple, I decided I didn't need to buy from Apple and could just upgrade my 7+ to the 8 through Verizon next year. But if it's true that even doing that makes me lose my trade-in credit from trading in the 5, then I haven't solved anything.

My whole conundrum stems from my stubborn need to get the full $400 trade-in value for my iPhone 5. If I just bite the bullet and accept that I can only get $200 for my 4-year old phone, this would be a lot easier.
