With all of the completely insane poo poo happening in sports and politics, is it too much to ask the universe that the Blues win a Cup this year?

As a Blackhawks fan, even I was secretly rooting for Brian Elliott. Dude deserved a Cup the way he was playing in the playoffs. Kinda feel sorry for him now.

The Brandon Saad scratch was a false alarm. He's in tonight while Sonny Milano goes in for Dubinsky, who's sick. Also, Jared Boll gets a video tribute at the second TV timeout.

During the '80's the Penguins had a 23 game losing streak at the Spectrum, formerly an NHL record. They had a winless streak (e.g. including ties) stretching from 1974 to 1988 there, too. Thankfully last night the Flames beat the Penguins record for a losing streak in one building by losing to the Ducks in the Honda Center for the 24th time in a row, making them the losingest team, in one building, in a row, in NHL history.

You could catch a Marlies game if youve never seen an AHL game, or go to an OHL game and see future picks Chicago will pass over in favour of a local kid. The ROM, Ontario Science Centre, CN Tower and Ripleys Aquarium are all great places to visit. Also do a tour of the Distillery District. Bring skates and hit up Nathan Phillips Square, they might have the rink open by then!

RC Cola posted:I mean besides hockey stuff I guess. Yeah I'm going to the HHoF It kinda depends on what sort of thing you're looking for, how you're getting around and who you're going with. In terms of touristy stuff that is accessible by public transit I'd suggest the CN Tower (if it's a clear day), the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) and the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). There's a Ripley's Aquarium at the base of the CN tower if you like that sorta thing, it's pretty unremarkable. The Distillery District is pretty neat and the Christmas Market will be in full swing, although it's more of coupley/datey thing than a group activity. Be warned, if you go on a Friday/Saturday evening it'll be jam packed and there's often a substantial wait to get inside. It's not the best time of year for outdoors stuff (obviously) but taking the ferry over to Toronto Island and walking around can be nice, but it's really more of a summer beach activity. Tripadvisor and tourism things always suggest Casa Loma, but I don't rate it. It's alright if you like dull victorian houses/gardens, but it's basically a wedding photo destination at this point. High Park is a bit out of the downtown core, but it's got several nice walking trails and a crappy outdoor zoo. Fort York is one of those historical recreation places and it doesn't really stand out in any way IMO, but it's downtown and easy to get to. St. Lawrence Market is cool and you can get Peameal Bacon Sandwiches (which are pretty much Toronto's only native food), it's worth a diversion if you're nearby. In terms of general locations to explore, I'd suggest Queen St. West and Kensington Market. They're neat shopping districts with a trendy vibe. I favour Kensington because I lived there for a bunch of years, but you can't go wrong with any of them. Queen West is a rapidly gentrifying arty counterculture place from the 80s. Kensington is a large, outdoor market made up of small, local shops and stuff. It was the centre of the Canadian hippy movement in the 60s but is now more of a student hangout. If you can skate, it's possible the cities rinks will be open and Nathan Philips Square is fantastic for that (even if you can't skate it's pretty light hearted and most people wobble around - there's skate rentals on site too). There are tons of others scattered around the city in various parks and neighbourhoods. Some are drop-in hockey rinks (like the one in Trinity Bellwoods) and people take it insanely seriously though, so just double check before you head out there. In terms of restaurants/bars, honestly it's hard to go wrong in Toronto. If you're looking for Sports Stuff, Real Sports Bar next to the ACC is a can't miss with a wall sized TV and a yuppie vibe. It's super busy on Leafs/Raptors nights though, especially weekends. If you want to just browse around restaurant/bar/club options or look at the various events going on I recommend BlogTO. They're the biggest Toronto blog and are on top of the cultural goings on in the city and what's cool or not with regards to where to eat, drink and party.
