Design looks fine to me. Probably better to play it safe with such a great theme. Those ramps do look long so I'm curious to see how it flows. Art wise, there probably were a lot of restrictions with the license. No chance they were going to get handdrawn art (although the Data East game had it I believe). It's not bad, but it also doesn't feel very Star Wars-esque. I guess my gripe with Stern is they seem obsessed with getting every single color on their playfields. Every table doesn't have to be a rainbow, just make it fit the theme. Interested to see what the monitor does because it lacks cool toys.

Mileage varies on the hand drawn art on the DE Star Wars, but I always dug it, it looks kinda weird which is reflective of where Star Wars kinda was as a franchise at the time. As Niwrad said, Disney probably is super controlling of the art style so I'm sure it'd be difficult to get anything that was less generic. It looks like Dwight Sullivan is on code for this and his games have generally arrived mostly complete (GoT, Ghostbusters) and with reasonably interesting rules.

I guess it's hypocritical of me because I'd love several tables if I could afford them, but collecting pinball machines is a very dudebro thing to do. Just stuff your mancave full of AC/DC and Mustang pinball machines and posters of bare-assed women stradling motorcycles and you're good to go. It's the equivalent of buying gigantic 4x4 pickups with tiny beds you can't even haul anything in, that sit so high up you'd need a hydraulic lift to get anything in there anyways.

Although it does have a late 80's/early 90's vibe to it. After looking at some more high-res photos of the new table, I kind of dig the artwork. The use of the light sabers running into the ramps is cool. The inserts seem a bit large but perhaps the table will play darker and need that to light it up. My only gripe is the Pro looks much less fun than the Premium version.

I'm into scale modeling and garage kits, and there's a ton of middle aged divorcee creepers in that hobby as well. If someone posts up a tasteful nude statue, or even just a WWII bomber with some racy nose-art, you get this avalanche of creepy old dudes with a well-curated collection of links to the most horn-doggenist smileys and emojis with eyes popping out and tongues wagging, while they post about how "they'd love to wrap my tongue around that luscious dame, A-OOOOGA!!!" There's even one guy in particular, he's rich or something, who collects and paints dino models. When he's done with one though, he hires an escort to hold the model while wearing skimpy clothing, which he then takes pics of. Oh, and most of the pics are taken at his house, which is so poorly kept it looks like it's practically abandoned. These are the same guys who would post in another thread about how "I just don't understand why there aren't more women in this hobby?" Hmmm, maybe it's because they ran screaming to the hills because of you guys. Bloody Hedgehog fucked around with this message at 02:20 on Jun 2, 2017 |

It's something I first saw in record collecting, where all the guys in the record store would wait until the one woman left the shop to ogle the uncensored Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking poster. That kind of person is a perfect storm of irritability, selfishness, and sanctimony, and pinball is full of them. DizzyBum posted:This would certainly explain how Whoa Nellie got the green light. The few times I've been to CP Pinball there's been women around, but it's usually like 3:1 or 2:1 and nobody's really broing down. But that's probably because it's locals or people from nearby towns on a night out or whatever, and not "enthusiasts" who come from all over to talk shop about their limited edition Sterns.

Pleasant news, then! So far, everyone I've met while playing has been cool, but I live in a hipster city with multiple "barcades," so that's not useful to calibrate against. The retro gaming expos here have been chill so far. Most of the public pinball stuff I've seen has been pretty chill. The worst you can really say is it skews a bit nerdy, but not as nerdy as a con or some cosplay get together bullshit. The five minutes I spent at the Northwest Pinball Expo seemed pretty family friendly, no one would have any problems there.

Everyone I've come across in real life has been really nice. It's either young people who like to socialize and play or older family people who want to have something they can bond with their kids over. Heck the guy who I sold my Gofers to asked about vulgar language in the game because he had some young kids. The creeps are mostly online. I don't think it's pinball specific either. Most hobbies I've come across have the same creep dynamic by the guys who get too obsessed with it.
