Anthem, you have it a good shot but 76 is still the King.

The camera has a zoom feature that works by springing the player's FoV forward several hundred yards in a second. Using an emote breaks this, slinging the player forward several hundred yards in a second.

This can kill the player if they hit a wall.

Some recent article came out where a former Valve developer was interviewed and he laid out the massive communication problem the gaming industry has with its consumers. When the only outlet consumers have to make their concerns known is through review bombing or AMAs where developers cherry pick softball questions, it's no wonder backlash gets so severe. It's the only way developers and publishers actually hear about issues, and more often than not the level of anger needed to get their attention also engenders the anger among developers that consumers are ungrateful shits who want everything for free. It's on companies to cultivate kind of relationships they wish to share with their customers. You treat them like the enemy and they'll be more than happy to oblige you.

Actually the problem is managers and executives but okay yeah the customers aren't being heard lol

Can someone please explain to me why everyone seems to be very vocally and loudly opposed to loot boxes and these other semi (sometimes completely) predator monetization practices but yet game companies are making money hand over fist by adding them to their games? This is something I've never been able to rationalize. It can't be that people are just complaining loudly while simultaneously buying a $100 in loot boxes a month... right? There's got to be some data out there by now.

Because they are fairly predatory in the same way that gambling is and a huge part of their audience are kids/teens.

Also a large part of loot box revenues are usually derived from a pretty small amount of "whales" who are basically rich idiots who money has no meaning for and will happily drop $250k on some rear end in a top hat game to make numbers go up.

Because 1,000 whales in the form of gambling addicts and/or actual rich people supply enough money to compensate for pissing off a million normies. The data is out there for mobile games and that's what it shows.

Lootboxes and other cash-sink mechanics have two target audiences: children and the mentally ill. Contrary to popular belief, neither group is particularly 'rich', they just have an almost-total lack of impulse control. There are shitloads of stories out there on the web like 'I lost my house and my family left me after I spent 10k trying to get a single ultra-rare character in a gacha game' and the like, which is why these systems are so exploitative and why they basically need to be banned.

Because with Casinos there is always the chance that you can improve your financial situation (no mater how slim) while with games any money spent is money wasted no mater how you look at it.

Yeah, lootboxes and gambling aren't really bad in and of themselves. They can be fun. Hey, what's in this box? Ooohhhh look at all the sparkles the game showed when I opened it! Yay!

The snag is you have stupid things like boxes that cost $5 to open and have a 0.02% chance of having the item everybody wants. EA in particular in that one Star Wars game basically made it so you couldn't play the game properly without spending a pile of money on loot boxes. Making a game pay to win and such is where the problem is. Like was said they're also under fire because you have people saying yeah well we aren't directly marketing them to children but if they happen to like them it's not real gambling because they're only spending video game funn buxx and you always win something sooooo.

This is utterly beautiful, it highlights all of the major problems the game has an how much Bethesda doesn't give a single solitary gently caress. Like, I knew they didn't care, but this just wraps it up with a nice bow of resentment towards the consumers.

Because people who don't like gambling are very loudly opposed to it because it is a predatory industry. Unfortunately other people love gambling, and the people who own casinos make all that money so they can buy off councils and governments.

I will confess that I was part of the problem. ME3 multiplayer came out and it was tons of fun. I saw that I could play a Samaritan and a Geth. OMG I really wanted to play a Killer Salamander and/or Robot. So much. I grinded and grinded and got the same old bloody thing. Yes I was happy slapping fools for Tuchanka but my heart wanted a Salarian. I had disposable income so I figured “why not?” Spent a little and nope. Then I grinded some more. I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent guy but dammit I wanted to play a Salarian or a Geth. I spent more. Then more. Finally I got a couple and was overjoyed. I tried not to think about it overmuch but still it nagged me. I felt ridiculous and rightfully so. But I kept playing. Oh man I really want this other Geth Engineer class. Maybe just a little. Just a little more money. I mean... I can afford it right? Not like I’m spending someone else’s money eh? One day some kid gets on and talks about all these different classes and guns. Bit of a spaz and I ask him how much he spent. He said a grand. He used his parents credit card. I felt so bloody stupid. Kept playing of course as freakin killer bots with Flamethrowers and Salamanders of Doom. Luckily stopped paying for loot boxes. Haven’t since. Years later, in my 30s and thinking that 200 or so could have been spent in lots of ways other than toons in a game I can’t play anymore. I really should thank Bioware as it kept me from blindly wasting money on loot boxes and terrible games. Never payed for creation club nor bought Fallout76, Andromeda or Anthemn.

I've spent around $1000 altogether for paintjobs in Elite and cosmetics in Guild Wars 2. I don't play Elite often and haven't touched GW2 in years. I don't feel the least bit bad because, as you say, it's my money. My bills weren't going unpaid. However, I would still prefer no loot boxes at all. If I had to get rid of all my Elite ship paintjobs and bobbleheads because FDev got rid of their storefront entirely, I'd support that.

I had totally forgotten about that case, I remember wanting it bad at the time.

eBay doesn't even show any sold in recent history?

I finished my Institute play through at just under 24 hours and at level 27 (and Idiot Savant triggered on the end quest which advanced me all the way to 31).

But about 6 hours in or something I gave myself a basic gauss gun and 1500 rounds and 200 stimpacks, otherwise I probably would have had to spend another 10 or 20 hours leveling just to survive that final Brotherhood fight, which was still pretty crazy.

Which reminded me of one of the few criticisms I had of this game which is that the ending cutscenes are offensively loving lazy. At the very least they should have mentioned all the factions and at least a few of the settlements. It makes me wonder if this was a stupid design decision (hey, we can't tell you whats goin on with Sanctuary cause the game ain't over!) or a stupid bean counter decision.
