Geralt's voice actor manages to be both the best and the worst in the game.
He's a badass most of the time, but I cringe whenever he's trying to get laid or deliver a flirty line of dialog. I've just finished Hearts of Stone, and the whole wedding ordeal was just awkward.

Geralt: "..... Just came out that way."

Geralt has made such a reputation out of hiding his feelings by acting like a badass that it's hilarious when the facade drops around people he care about. He's a stunted manchild who has difficulty articulating his feelings and he has a limited vocal range so I find his awkward attempts at flirting or trying to show genuine emotion to be rather endearing.

Aren’t you supposed to cringe during the wedding? It’s Vlod inside you making you act a fool. I thought those scenes were exactly spot on.

Yea, but this goes without saying. Proff glasses and rear end ears are the most valuable things to start a NG+ with, along with Olgierd and Lady of the Lake swords.

A couple thoughts upon reflection of a recent re-read of the books:

The games (2 and 3) did a really great job of picking up on the baited hooks of the end of the saga. During the victory celebrations after the Battle of Brenna, you've got the internal monologue of child Radovid regarding his concealed hatred of Phillipa and by extension all mages; you've got the internal monologue of Heirarch Hemmelfart observing the growing threat of mages and nonhumans and making a note to refocus the Church of the Eternal Fire on persecuting said groups. If you didn't know that Lady of the Lake predates Witcher 3 you could be forgiven for thinking it's all just well thought out foreshadowing.

Another thing that jumped out at me given recent political events coming out of America is the abortion stuff with Milva's story. I'm not from Poland and all I know is that Poland has some of the most regressive abortion laws in the EU, so it seems to me that Sapkowski, writing in the mid 90s that both Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms agree that of course it's the woman's choice seemed pretty progressive, especially for 90s fantasy.

My favourite bit of the Lady of the Lake epilogue though, is Dijkstra, Isengrim and Boreas teaming up and heading east. That's the Witcher story that I most wanted a follow up on. It's easy to believe that Dijkstra goes back to Redania and ends up as a Novigrad crime boss, but I still wanna hear that whole story.

A lot of backward laws we have now in Poland seem either inspired by US conservatives or blind "commie bad, change it".
On paper communist bloc was so far advanced in women's rights, ethnic groups representation and even gay rights (1919-1933, Stalin recriminalizes homosexuality, but I didn't hear about anyone ending in GULAG or Turing style treatment because of that. They mostly pretended Gays don't exist) compared to "free world" it's crazy.
Abortion laws go back and forth in Poland, we're now again in high conservative tide.

That trip of 3 dudes was also among my fav parts. I wish there was something more of it too.

I don't know about Poland but during Brezhnev's era quite a few gay men were thrown in sanitarium's along with political dissidents and others who rocked the boat too much.

Homosexuality wasn't a crime, it didn't exist as a recognised term in the Socialist Poland's law. But it didn't stop the regime from starting huge illegal persecution action in 1985. Of course only dudes, homosexual ladies were completely ignored. There are different theories on why the action started, might be someone from the party getting weird hate boner, or something political (martial law was lifted year-ish later and crackdown on Solidarity was still in effect) but probably it was a part of HIV epidemic scare.

I had a tough time on that part until discovering you could lock on to the dummies for melee or swing faster or something. It made things much easier and explained why I sucked at mounted swings during the main game.

Edit: I think it was holding attack and Geralt immediately swings when you release. I’d previously just tapped the button while trying to account for the delay before Geralt got around to swinging. Can’t remember how I did left or right, though.

You go left or right depending on what side of the target you are on while holding down the button. To get the best results aim roach right at the target slightly to the right so you don't accidentally switch to the left handed strike by accident.

The professor's glasses are an accessory item you can wear on top of all your other gear (like the rear end ears). You have to bid for them in the auction house in HoS.

If only the devs had had the foresight to give Hattori's sword and the an Crait ancestral sword special properties like Iris and Aerondight. Surely in playtesting they realized that those swords were going to get sold immediately?

I mean, it's not specific to those swords, it's a problem throughout the entire game. Pretty much all swords outside of those two pale in comparison to Witcher gear, making all weapons as quest rewards or loot pointless.
It's like how in Witcher 2 you could import the endgame gear from W1 and it was only slightly better than the normal starting equipment, meaning you sell it almost immediately too.

This is a really weird comparison, but I like how in Princess Maker 2 if you sell the sword you get from the king from winning the fighting tournament the court steward shows up the next day to chew you out for selling a gift from the king's armory to a pawn shop.

I don't mind most of the swords in the game just being currency by another name, but when Hattori says "I'll craft you a blade with which to slay gods" and then gives you something not even worth a second glance, that's a bummer. If you're going to get special gear out of a quest line, the gear ought to be special. And the devs realized this (to a limited extent) in the expansions, which bodes well for the loot system in Cyberpunk. But I still maintain I should have gotten Excalibur or something for beating that level 48 archgriffon north of Ard Skellig.

Pretty sure I recall saving him but that was a long time ago. Don't remember anything about the sword so I'll have to look it up.

And since I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to insert another quote:

For Hattori's sword, having it special would have been cool, especially if it was "unlocked" by placing one of the dumpling runes in the blade

Nobody move and nobody gets hurt.

Just reached Novigrad on my third playthrough, and I think AC:Odyssey's gear system has spoiled me. The combination of upgradeable armor/weapons and the transmog system really lets you find a look/playstyle bonus you like and keep it for as long as you want, while in Witcher the best-looking basic witcher gear is Wolven, which is leveled for pre-Skellige but completely inaccessible until Act 2.

Between that and what we've seen of Cavill with white hair, I'm really questioning the visual direction the series is taking. Fantasy is that much harder to get in to if it looks dumb.

It's sad because the Witcher Games are one of the very few fantasy video games that have authentic 13th century clothing, Witcher gear and traditionalist throwback Skilligers excepted. Just seeing Redanian soldiers with standard issue breastplates and gambesons in a sea of "leather armor" and "chainmail" fantasy designs was such a breath of fresh air. Even the silly renaissance fashion of Touissant made a certain amount of sense, albeit the Knights were a little under armored. At least what armor they were wearing was authentic.
