Any idea what something like this would realistically go for? I know original Cords are big money.

Definitely one of my favorites from that era. More cars should have external exhaust tubes, but IIRC on cords only the supercharged ones had them so that's pretty lame for 70 grand.

They had a reserve over $70k? Thats nuts.

I love cords. I got a toy when I was a kid (black) and to this day it's one of the few pre 50s cars I lust over.

All that, and that's the best they could do for the AC and audio? No hidden stereo, of custom underdash AC? Also, I'm disappointed at the steering wheel and boring-rear end standard GM column shift. The real 810/812 had a rather interesting gear selector:

Better steering wheel, too.

I wonder if they used a Toronado/Eldorado transaxle so it's actually FWD?

Oh no! I'm not an aesthetics person but when you see a project built just to look a certain way have some stuff shoehorned in it sticks out like a sore thumb. Even just doing some kind of faceplate to match the rest of the dash over the woodgrain and maybe a flap or something for the stereo would be a huge improvement.

If you ever find yourself driving through northern Indiana take the time to visit the museum. It's quite incredible. They don't make dealerships like those anymore.

Yes. That and worse.

You can ship of Theseus anything if you're willing to put the time and money into it. Ferrari routinely does this.

If it's a Ship of Thesus type situation then what's the point of buying the rusted out body in the first place? Just for the title/VIN?

Pretty much yes. You might even save most of a frame or a couple of body panels or part of the firewall for the passing credibility that it's "the same car".

Meh, at least in TX, there would should be the paperwork to enable getting a title, in one's name, from the auction. Just make sure to only pay what parts can be seen in the photos is worth.

Powershift

We don't have titles here, the auction hoose lists whether a car has been registered here before which is all you need, and it shows a key in the pictures.

I'm going to guess it still goes for a bunch of dollars

My big limitation is that the auction requires it be towed to a Calgary address by their contractor, and i don't live in Calgary. Well, that and being broke as gently caress

This is only a “restoration” because it’s an F40. If it was nearly any other car that would be a (very) thorough detailing. The thing is dirty and was used a bit, it doesn’t need a loving “restoration.”

Facebook Marketplace needs to very very prominently indicate “dealers” (like, allow you to filter them out, as on Craigslist,) and forbid listing the “$$ down” as the goddamned price. Of course, until they fix the “feature” that sometimes won’t let listers enter the actual price, it’s sort of a moot point.

Yeah but they don't want to do ANY of this. Sponsored listings mean you don't get to filter things. If you can filter out anything sponsored (aka dealers) then that's less money for them.
