From this video, where you can see benchmarks using the HD texture pack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy5yz6BRJc8

Basically every card can use it fine at 1080p, and most can at 1440p. The 6800 XT using more than 8GB of VRAM doesn't mean having less will be a major problem. It just might require slightly more realtime asset loading and unloading. If you have an 8GB card then I don't think there's anything to worry about, and even a 6GB card will be fine at 1440p and under.

Yeah, I went ahead and installed it. I'm running at 3440x1440 with most everything set to the default of high. VRAM usage maxed out at 60% so far.

It certainly doesn't have a hotkey. Maybe it autoactivates? I was running around at night on the starter island clearing some Liberdad boxes in some crevice. It couldn't see poo poo and there's no flashlight nor did it trigger (I think it does only in designated caves?).

Is there any reason to not just get Ubisoft+ for a month and immediately cancel, allowing me to play the full game for $15 as long as I don't take longer than a month to finish it? I don't care about future DLC or movie tie-in missions.

I'm seeing first reports of claims that the game performs better when run in admin mode. To the point that even Ubisoft representants over in r/farcry suggest to try that when someone reports performance issues.

It does and it's complete poo poo. It's so bright it would have been better to not even have a flashlight. It's only come on in one cave I've found so far so at least it's rare.

Absolutely do that. I've never once thought to myself 'you know what I want to do? play that Far Cry game I already beat,' and it's hard to imagine most other people feeling that way either unless they care about DLC. There's no reason to buy the game when you can essentially just rent it for a month, by which point you'll almost certainly be done with it one way or another. Even if you cared about DLC, you could always just play it next time you sub for another game or whatever.

So I’m wondering as someone who loves far cry five and by and large enjoyed new dawn, will I more then likely enjoy 6? I’ve heard the stuff about no tech trees anymore and certain other streamlining, but honestly if it plays like 5 and New Dawn, I’m cool. I like 4 too, but 5/ND have some nice QoL improvements that 4 lacks.

Also is the ending less goddamn loving awful then 5?

Edit: Holy poo poo I didn’t even know Ubisoft plus was an option.

Apparently PC only, but it also supports two different cloud options so that’s cool.

Thanks, Ubisoft+ it is for me, then.

The ending to Far Cry 5 was fine, ending with the cult being entirely correct was the usual Far Cry twist. People just didn't like it because they were projecting their dumb politics onto a vapid entertainment product.

The ending was dumb but the rest of the story was also dumb so it fit

But yeah interrupting generally fun gameplay so you could get dumb story shouted at you was a real head scratching decision and New Dawn was way better for ditching that

It's more due to how messy the cult stuff was. There was never much indication of what they actually stood for which is kind of essential to make them good antagonists.

They didn't need to be Trumpers or white supremacists, but they needed some actual motivations instead of the pondering endless speeches about mostly nothing.

WOULD YOU ACCOMPANY ME ON A BRISK WALK? I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH YOU!!

I'm off tutorial island now, and did the secret ending for the fun of it. Game is good, if you like Far Cry. It's more Far Cry. It's not innovative really, other than a somewhat-interesting weapon modification system that really boils down to needing to ration your weapon upgrades and make some balance choices, which is probably good because it encourages you to use more weapon variety I'd say.

I'm playing on PC and performance has been decent - I'm locking FPS at 60 since I'm playing on a TV and my 9900k/2080ti is able to do High settings at 4K and hold 60 well enough that I'm not noticing, and I was able to bump the following settings without a meaningful frame rate loss below 60:
Texture Filtering Ultra
Geometry and Vegetation Ultra
Environment Ultra
Terrain Ultra
Motion Blur Off (mentioning this in case leaving it on impacts frames)
FidelityFX CAS On

It looks good! I don't have the option for the HD Textures since even an 11GB 2080ti can't do them in 4K so it doesn't even offer it. I think they need to think about that one in some way because there's probably only 5% of people playing the game that can even use them, it sounds like, since it's like 3080ti and 3090 pretty much that can do it.

Only meaningful bug I've run into was in the (extremely early game spoiler, like 10 minutes in) conversation when you first get to Clara's camp, two of the voice lines didn't play although the mouths moved and subtitles showed. I've reported it to Ubisoft on the reddit post for that sort of thing, and they said they've forwarded it to the team (apparently several other people are having this as well)

So - extremely early game review is that it's pretty fun, if you aren't tired of Far Cry. If you're hoping for Far Cry but they've innovated, you're probably going to be disappointed. And the politics are what they always are in a far cry game, extremely shallow political commentary that's afraid to take anything resembling a controversial side in a meaningful way. Fortunately, I don't care, and am having fun with it. But for those who do care about that, it's not going to all of a sudden be a socially conscious game.

Thanks everyone for the Ubisoft + suggestion. Just saved a bunch of money and I can play Far Cry 6.

I’m also have to have more of the same with perhaps some QoL improvements. I can’t wait to watch Giancarlo do evil poo poo!

One of the funnier things about the Seeds (at least iirc from that long form analysis video) is that they’re probably closer to Marxists or Socialists in a bunch of ways then Trumpers. I just wish the game had gone with them being crazy and not somehow right. I know it’s dumb, but goddamn I wish there was an ending where you save the day and that’s it. Even if it would have been non canonical.

The worst part is the secret ending teases you and Min having a fun time. :(

Regardless I will say the sound mix on this game is incredible.

Also for whatever issues Ubi has, I truly appreciate their commitment to providing such a huge amount of accessibility options.

So this does come with the amd version of dlss. I guess it works with my nvidia card because turning it on netted me about 20 fps. I was able to turn both ray tracing shadows and reflections on with it. No idea how this is all running so well with my 2070S but I'm still above 60 with basically everything on max. No hanging with your pal Pagan Min, you have to instead choose between Kyrat being turned into an opium-based economy or a theocratic state with child brides.

Picked up FC6 last night despite being iffy on whether or not it would run on my computer and not knowing what the EGS return policy is. With a 1950x and GTX 1070 it was running well with everything autodetected to high settings, though I turned most things to medium to get some more frames. Didn't run into any of the hitching while turning problems I've seen mentioned though I haven't been to the main island yet, hopefully performance stays decent in larger cities.

i do kind of like how the golden path is like some weird off shoot of a shithead monarchist movement that got mad because the merc king who they hired to because he shot their boy king in the head and took power for himself. like i kinda like 4 because alot of the power players are "realistic" assholes.

This game didn't fix the biggest problem with Far Cry 5: Your pet still can't jump into vehicles with you. No car rides with Guapo. 0/10.

I'm also really disliking all the writing so far. The dialogue is loving awful. The way they're mixing the self-aware humor and serious tone of the story just doesn't work. And the whole "We're a guerilla movement fighting against bad guys doing... bad things. Yeah!" with no ideology or material conditions being addressed comes off as very cartoonish, which would be fine if the game wasn't trying to take itself so seriously most of the time (self-aware quips aside).

All the eye-rolling aside, the game itself seems fine. It's more Far Cry, all right. I'll keep playing it until I get bored of it (thank goodness for Ubisoft+ not making me pay full price for this game). I do enjoy how utterly stupid the world is. The traffic AI remains brain dead, plowing through everything in their way without a care in the world, while nearby NPCs refuse to give a gently caress about anything going on around them. And I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. You just have to put the tonal dissonance out of mind and embrace the chaos.
