The games through game pass are moddable since you just install the game through ea desktop. Spent a few hours installing mods with a guide I found and can't wait to play these again. Haven't played them since they released.

Cool that modders managed to restore Pinnacle station (not that it was good)

Getting rid of pinnacle would have made sense anyways as the combat sim from 3 is the same idea but better in every possible way.

So I take it the multi is long gone

It really is a shame, I'd forgotten how much emphasis they'd put on detonating combos in 3 and doing that online ruled.

Nice! Is there a goon discord or something? I checked the OP, but didn't see anything. I used to love that multiplayer.

I made one which is still there but it kinda died for lack of interest. Ping me though and we can play a few rounds https://discord.gg/Y7aCdJVT

Been replaying ME1 on insanity, and there is a bunch of stuff on Noveria that I had never done before. Turn in the hanar smuggler to get the pass, Have anoleis and parasini kill each other, break into the secure labs and have the guards turn hostile. And in all the playthoughs I've done of ME1, I never realized you can just...skip the hotlabs.

Maybe I’ve pulled that off before, but I don’t remember it.

So I'm trying to go for a low EMS run where I get all the squadmates killed and also get Earth destroyed. I mostly have everything figured out but I need some help with the suicide mission. Is there a way to figure it so that I only end up with any combination of Mordin/Morinth/Miranda/Tali? Ideally I'd like to get Tali killed during ME3 because that's worse and everyone else is a pretty easy loose end to wrap up without gaining a lot of assets.

If you want all 4 the easiest way I know would be 1) Do only their loyalty missions 2) Don't get any ship upgrades 3) Don't get Zaeed or Kasumi. Sell Legion to Cerberus. Thane, Jack and Garrus should die on approach due to lack of upgrades. Send Jacob as the Tech and he dies. Pick Morinth for the Biotic Specialist and Miranda as fire team leader. Send unloyal Grunt to escort the crew. Take Tali and Mordin to the final boss. That should get you those 4 exactly surviving. If you want to recruit Zaeed and Kasumi and get them killed do something similar except; Tech: Jacob Fire Team 1: Zaeed Biotic: Miranda Fire Team 2: Grunt Escort: Garrus Then bring Tali and Mordin to the boss. There's a calculator here if you want to play around with it https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect2/mods/146 Zore fucked around with this message at 04:07 on Jan 11, 2022 |

I don't think Miranda can die as fire team leader as the game needs her to deliver lines. the only way to kill her is to take her unloyal to the final boss or to do poorly enough on Hold the Line that she gets killed speaking of, trip report: Risky Suicide Mission the mod replaces the binary loyal/unloyal succeed/fail Suicide Mission mechanics and replaces them with random percentage chances, with "readiness" modifiers from 1-5 for each squadmate for loyalty, morality, romance, main plot mission experience, specific aptitude and confidence. also you only get two of the three ship upgrades so, Paragon FemShep Engineer (spoilers abound) - everyone got +1 readiness for loyalty. Samara, Mordin, Garrus and Tali got +1 readiness for being Paragon. Miranda/Jack, Mordin/Samara, Grunt/Thane each got +1 for going on Horizon/Collector Ship/Derelict Reaper main missions. Legion starts with +1 also for the Derelict Reaper (and because he can't go on any other plot missions). no romance so the Normandy crew got a bonus for their check later on. I upgraded armour and shields but skipped the weapons, partly because I think it flows better narratively than one-shotting the cruiser with liquid metal lasers and partly because the squadmates at risk of dying included Zaeed and Kasumi, who aren't that interesting in ME3 armour and shields held up on the initial run (there's a very small chance someone can die each check regardless of upgrades) but the RNG was unkind and Jack got impaled by a girder during the attack run on the Collector cruiser. unfortunate, 'cause Jack's worth keeping around for ME3. I chose Garrus and Tali for the fireteam/vent tech - although they only had Medium readiness, this check had pretty good odds for survival, plus they had an extra +1 readiness for squad leader/tech aptitude respectively, and if they survived their readiness would be boosted +2 to the max level for the rest of the game. however any other squadmate could have done either task - Mordin, with High readiness, had the exact same odds as Tali to succeed, for example anyway they both survived and got boosted to Very High readiness. can always count on those two the Normandy crew were rescued intact from the pods - again instead of a binary live/die based on mission count, the chance of the crew surviving is random chance with stepped modifiers for each mission completed after the kidnapping, plus a bonus for no romances. they still needed an escort to get back to the Normandy, so I sent Mordin, with success being again RNG modified by the escort's readiness with Jack dead Samara was my best choice for biotic (any biotic could have done it, but no one else had the aptitude bonus or high enough readiness). Miranda led the second fireteam because I like to mix things up. this was a bad idea - Samara steamrolled the seeker swarms but Miranda failed the fireteam test. as Miranda's not allowed to die, the mod randomly selected another squadmate to die in her place... Garrus. gently caress bit suspect though that the two squadmates that challenge Miranda both ended up dying... just saying there is some alternate dialogue that mentions the sacrifices made so far on the Suicide Mission that I never usually see, because usually no one ever dies I took Miranda (Very High) and Jacob (Low) with me to the final boss, leaving Samara, Tali, Grunt, Thane, Legion, Zaeed and Kasumi to hold the line. for this, the mod drops the usual weighted calculations - each squadmate gets an individual random check to live or die, with 50/50 odds at Medium readiness. however squadmates holding the line can get a "critical success" that not only keeps them alive but cancels out another squadmates failure as well. so Samara and Tali would be doing the heavy lifting for the final section, with a good chance of saving one of the others if they got unlucky blew up the base, Miranda resigned, killed the baby Reaper, saved Jacob from falling off a ledge only for him to die in the crash landing anyway. Kasumi died holding the line, but everyone else made it including the Normandy crew. only 33% casualty rate, pretty good for a Suicide Mission. unfortunately while I can live without Jacob and Kasumi, Jack and especially Garrus are non-negotiable, so I used the built-in mod cheat to resurrect everyone and get a 'perfect' import it's cool and fun and more dramatic than the vanilla experience. it does expose a couple of flaws in the general design though: 1) the ME3 consequences for losing squadmates is really uneven and usually less interesting than having them alive (depending on the squadmate) 2) a lot harder to control the narrative to decide who lives or dies if you do want to see what happens in ME3 if e.g. Mordin dies 3) for a Dirty Dozen suicide mission heist-type thing, no one goes rogue or betrays the team or has a hidden agenda, which is a real missed opportunity christ that was longer than I thought it would be

Nice write up! I used that mod the last time I played through as well and really enjoyed it. It brought back that feeling of my first playthrough of not knowing if I was about to see one of the squad die. I did get pretty lucky and only lost Thane, Zaeed, and Mordin, if I remember correctly. I'm holding out on getting the Legendary Edition and doing another playthrough until more mods get ported over to it. I'm really hoping this one makes it eventually. It looks like the author wants to port it, but hasn't had any time to start working on it yet.

Downloaded this through game pass and using my Series controller, got as far as the character creation menu in Mass Effect and the controller input switching repeatedly back to KB+M (even though the mouse was turned off) pissed me off enough to quit. Any fixes?

The legendary edition is simply better, if only because it"s easier to carry your save from one game to the next.

The gameplay fixes to ME1 alone make it worth it (and the combat is still kinda crummy and doesn't really get great until ME3). ME2 and ME3 are relatively unchanged.

Also added controller support, if that matters to you. The old ones had that modded in, but in my case it ducked up my installs, and I could never repair then.

I've got my PC linked to my TV so I get to lie on the sofa playing Mass Effect like I'm back at university except in 4k and with the qol fixes, I think this is gonna be my comfort food through the rest of winter There's a bunch of DLC I never played back when they first came out, including citadel, so I'm looking forward to seeing that. I've started with a paragon femshep as I'd previously done paragon manshep and renegade femshep. I briefly considered finally letting Ashley live this time until about 5 minutes into the presidium and the first time I ever spoke to her while running around and she said something about it being difficult to tell the difference between the aliens and animals. loving yikes, Ashley. Thanks for the quick replies, Remastered edition it is. I’ve also managed to avoid spoilers this whole time, all I know is “BioWare sci fi rpg” so I’m going in completely fresh.

Yeah there's pretty much no reason to not play the remaster. It's better in every way (especially when it comes to ME1) not to mention all of the games are right there in one convenient game.

The only reason I think would be to experience the original as was, but afaik there weren't any egregious changes, and most difference are for the better.

The only real downside to the LE is that all the old DLC gear for 2 and 3 get shoved into various shops, jacking up how many credits you need to buy everything.
|

The biggest downside to LE is not having all the fun mods ![]() It's still really good though.

What's missing?

I'm sure most of the mods will eventually migrate to the LE. It does suck for the DLC outfits although I hardly ever used them.
