Please don't disrespect my leafy boy

I've just started doing runs with him and had gotten stomped twice when I finally face the ring guardian at around level 130. Stayed alive a long time with the gold arcana going but no awake, and awake didn't work either, just got chomped on. I was hoping this guy could be an afk farmer but am going to have to figure out how to get the evolved laurel working first

Yeah it’s a real challenge finding something that will let him dps the bosses faster than they can grind him down. It’s a shame because I really like the dumb gimmick.

Well, I did my best, but just couldn't tank the bosses long enough for them to die from the AOE. I did Sarabande of Healing and Awake and was tanking things pretty well once my revives ran out and I picked up the armor.

Things to try later: banish Torrona before it adds curse, try to make it over to the tome for cooldown reduction on the aoe pulses, take Silent Old Sanctuary before Sarabande for even more cooldown.

There are a couple runes that can heal you, one that gives you 1hp every 5th level up, and the other makes every 1500th enemy killed drop one. One of the fire upgrades can also heal you, but it's like a 0.05% chance every time you light an enemy on fire.

It's also good to get the rune that gives you a shield from the start, that way you can bump into an enemy every couple minutes and not lose your whole run.

I think my current issue is that I do not really have many upgrades, and it'll be a while before I can even unlock the barrier rune because I'd still need to finish maxing a Tier 2 Shield Rune first.

I've only survived past the second boss a handful of times, and have never really gotten further than that.

I'm thinking I should just take a break from the game until it updates some more because playing it is just an exercise in frustration at the moment compared to VS, which is a lot more forgiving and has progression that feels more impactful for me.

Yeah the rune system is not good. In theory VS can lean you toward specialising in your early poverty days if you spend all your money on AoE or whatever and never respec by the rune system and seems laser focused on forcing specialisation.

I was an idiot and didn't realize that you could only take 1 Rune from each Tier at a time and ended up putting points in both Bullet/Damage and Fire Rate/Reload in the Tier 1 Sword Runes which set me back.

Now obviously you play a vampire trying to survive, that's obvious and explains everything, but I don't see how I'm interacting with this garlic. Especially the dog, which is both a vampire and a dog and is therefore twice-hosed if it messes with alliums.

I'm in the same boat. It is much, MUCH harder than nomad/vampire and the economy is way harder. That being said, I was successful early on by getting one point of knockback on reload, then doing the starter lady who can reroll and shotgun. Beeline for the miniclip synergy + fanfire and as much elemental as you can, then piercing, pickup, vision, etc. You just charge straight into packs of poo poo and wipe it out.
The second boss is by far the hardest part, then the 4th.

Edit managed a clear with Abby+smgs. I find walk speed +100% essential for those guns because otherwise you get surrounded while firing

Last night I played a ton of the Boneraiser Minions demo. It's an interesting spin on the genre, you have a very small playing area but it's your graveyard, so some of the upgrades you get take the form of populating it with traps and tricks more like a traditional tower defense. Your main method of attack is to gather bones from slain enemies to build a variety of skeletons that do most of the fighting. You can occasionally find a one-off spell but mostly you just run around trying to stay alive and build your own army. There's some interesting synergies where you can avoid triggering your traps and instead use them to build special skeletons. For example, one of the first upgrades you can get are pumpkin bombs that you can detonate and take out a crowd, but if you hold off you can instead build a pumpkin bomb skeleton who will continually kamikaze into enemies instead. There are also two separate persistent upgrade trees - one to upgrade you and your graveyard, and the other to upgrade your enemies.

My only major complaint is nothing really tells you what all the different varieties of skeleton do. Most of them are obvious, but good luck figuring out for yourself what an Auger does. (Applies some kind of buff to other skeletons. What buff? Who knows.) The varieties of necromancer you can play as seem fairly unbalanced too - the type that focuses on building a larger horde of weaker enemies is a sleepwalk, but the one that boosts top-tier demon skeletons doesn't get strong enough to justify its very slow start.

Pretty meaty for a little demo, I can't wait to see the whole thing.

Haha, my experience was completely opposite — when I had the infinite demon skeleton upgrade, I found it by far the easiest. Getting one AoE demon doesn’t take too long (particularly not once you have the freebie dredges and starting horde upgrades) and from there you snowball into unlimited demon power. Demon bomber or demon tangler basically let you cruise until the paladin waves, when you’ll have like four or five other demons to carry through to the boss.

I just could not last long enough to get more than one demon online. I'll try again tonight if I can tear myself away from Neon White.

This is great news, though. I love when a game can produce huge differences of opinion in which builds are best.

I did it- fully upgrading wings was actually enough to mostly kite the bosses, but then I also had a very defensive build with armour, laurel, hollow heart, fuloofawoofalloofalwoo and sarabande of healing. other weapons were guns and birds and clock lancelet

Nice work! Having more than one weapon would definitely make it easier. Relying on just the one slot is probably going to require a very specific build though.

Fast Hyper Bone Zone One Weapon Tree Lord No Items Final Destination Fox Only:

Build:

Passives: Armour, wings, heart, book, spinach, cake.
Arcana: Bonus revives, the one that makes only one weapon good, and saraband of healing.
AOE boosters are a trap, they make it harder to get your XP and with soul eater healing + a big health pool from hearts + stacked armour + revive armour you can tank all the bosses bar green & blue death. Kited green death until his timer ran out at a cost of a couple of revives, and once blue death ran off I was able to just sit back and relax while everything melted while feeding me infinity hearts.

e: fast doesn't actually make it meaningfully harder since there's so little leveling to actually do. I turned it on because I got sick of waiting until 10 minutes to see if my latest build failed or not lol

Part of the learning curve of 20MTD is knowing when to fire and when to just stop reloading/firing for a few seconds to get out of imminent danger, ultimately. The walk speed upgrades are nice, but often they're more of a quality of life thing in my runs or things I pick up purely because the other options on that level up aren't of any value to me.

Boneraiser Minions was a fun play and I played till I unlocked every powerup but yeah it's confusing when the game doesn't tell you jack poo poo. Like, how much more powerful are those Big Skeletons/Melds when compared to a Level 3 Skeleton, and what the gently caress are Barrows.

I do think Demons are very strong; one Demon can pretty much carry you until your next Demon, and you can make as many Demons as you want if you get the proper upgrade.

Auger buff increases their movement and attack speed, hinted at by the little clock icon over their heads. It's very very good currently and kind of a must-pick to the point of being unbalanced. The top level demon upgrade version casts it on a lot of units at once (maybe your whole army?) in addition to casting it on you which gives you a major movespeed buff

Been playing this, and it's actually really cool even divorced from the Hololive stuff. Each character has their own unique starting weapon, and has their own 'skills' you can pick up, in addition to the general pool of weapons and items available to everyone. Would definitely recommend checking it out, even if you're not much of a V-tuber fan.

The amusement intensifies when you consider HoloCure has This Much To It, with only the first early release.

So not only are things moving fast at breaking barriers with inscrutable abandon, the baseline quality level of the newcomers on the whole seems to be at least keeping pace on top.

Yeah you're definitely right. I'm up to darkness 12 now and enjoying things, but I really don't like how they made the difficulty harder by .. making leveling slower. That being said, it seems like there's bugs where I can't get shatter or fusillade without picking ice shard/fan fire - took me a while to realize this, because I've been using spark consistently and just never reloading.

I did just do an all summons, no attack run, but on darkness 0. That was pretty funny.
