I have never enjoyed or understood why people like led zeppelin. Black sabbath are way better and I don't even really like them much either.

Don't get me wrong there's plenty of sabbath to like and they absolutely earn the title of the first doom metal band / god fathers of metal, i just feel like the genre has matured and developed into something bigger and better than them. Theres also a ton of sabbath-likes that have burnt me out on Ozzy vocals.

Saw Pallbearer and High on Fire last night. Pallbearer is fuckin good. Turns out one of my friends went to high school with Brett and they played together a bit. I went to college with Devin and Joseph and we've got a bunch of mutual friends but I don't remember either of them. Their tone was impeccable. I went in blind and was pretty blown away. High on Fire was just a relentless wall of sound. Old guy opinion, I wish it hadn't been so loud so I could hear what they were doing. But it went hard. Matt Pike is a caricature of a metal frontman. Coady Willis is wild. I was floored by how much sound he gets out of such a stripped down kit, I think he had a kick, snare, floor tom, small tom, and 4 cymbals total. Great energy all around though, will see them again.
