It was announced a few days ago. They lost their appeal. It's wrong because Scientology shouldn't have the tax break it has in the first place, but if they won, it would set a precedent and every single Jewish family would be filing for tax breaks in April. I didn't expect it to win.

Neither did I, but I was hoping at least it would make the federal government grow a drat pair and man up to scientology

The Sklar case affirms the precedent from the Supreme Court case Hernandez v. Commissioner that Scientologists can't deduct their course fees and other "fixed donations". (They can still deduct donations for buying buildings and so on.)
What's needed now is that somebody with standing files a suit to compell the IRS to follow the law and the court rulings, or that Congress or the President take action.

ANONYMOUS MEETS with WILL SMITH HIMSELF - WS Justifies Study Tech (Result of 9/8 NVA)

FOXNews.com - Will Smith Clears the Air

quote:

This year, news broke that Will had funded a school in suburban Los Angeles that used one of Scientology’s study programs. It seemed like Will and Jada were making a statement. But they didn’t actually make a statement.

Monday night, I ran into Mr. and Mrs. Smith at the premiere of “Lakeview Terrace,” which Will has produced with partner James Lassiter. Jada was there, too. And here’s the thing about Will and Jada: they are immensely likable. They are incredibly gracious. Even when Will’s overzealous security guard, the size of the Cleopatra column, attempted to block and neutralize me, Smith intervened quickly.

I told him I’d heard he’d given a press conference to the group called Anonymous, which protests Scientology.

“Not exactly a press conference, but I did talk to them,” he said. Mind you, Will had just gone to the buffet and was carrying a plate of food. This was up at the swanky new Empire Hotel rooftop following the premiere of “Lakeview,” which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington.

So, what’s the story? Is Will a Scientologist? “I am not,” he told me. The school is using one of Scientology's teaching tools, but Will said, “You can take different parts of things you like and put them all together.”

This is similar to what he told the Anonymous people (who remain, I presume, unknown). In their recent press release, the group said, "We appreciate Will's interest in our efforts and his openness in speaking with us directly. It shows his concern both as a parent and educator.

"Anonymous is hopeful that NVLA will take the great strides necessary to correct for the deficiencies in Scientology's Study Tech, or abandon them altogether. We will be keeping an eye on the situation to make sure that NVLA lives up to the goals Will Smith has for it, which include keeping the Church of Scientology out of the classrooms."

More importantly: Jada wore a short-waisted vintage dress, with the bust covered in a silver mylar sort of thing. It was very cool. She told me she was thrilled “The Women” had made $10 million in its first weekend, since it only cost $16 million. “We’re in the clear whatever happens now,” she said.

Also note that the tax return we're talking about is from 2007. We don't know if the Will and Jada foundation will give any money to Scientology this year - apart from the New Village Academy.

LA Valkyrie premiere report:
http://www.socalanon.com/forums/new...t-game/msg2763/

quote:

Extrie! Extrie! Read all about it!

Where's the hoardes of fans?
Where's all the pretty girls?

Here's the eye-witness account of a brave "Anon", at the sad scene of the Lolkyrie premiere:

When we arrived at the spot of the premiere, there were barricades set up along both sides of the street, presumably for the throngs of fans and paparazzi that weren't there. We took our spot across the street from the hubbub against one of the barricades.

We immediately noticed a lot of cops. We're talking between 15-20 just along the front. Some on foot, some on rested motorcycles. We even saw a few familiar faces on the squad: the usual suspects from the LRH Way street closures.

There was a red carpet within a tented area set up so that stretch limos could pull up in front, and the assorted celebs could get out, walk about 5' and file into the tent through a flap door. There was also a bullpen type area to the side of the tent that allowed around 100 fans to hang out and try to catch a glimpse of aforementioned celebs.

The moment we arrived, several fans within the bullpen area started taking photos of us. Two guys sitting at a table in front of the coffee shop, obvious PI types, were doing some fail camera work. They claimed to be there for Tommygirl, but kept their cameras on us the whole time. When an anon called them out, they left the table to go sit in their minivan, parked just across from us and continue filming.

When Tom arrived, he quickly entered and they closed the flap to the tent but only while he was in there. One of the paparazzo on our side of the street came over to tell us that he was in there and that they'd closed the tent. At that point, the Anons started calling Tom and asking him to come out and play. They cited various crimes that his money goes to bankroll, challenged him to come hang out and chat, etc.

Nothing.

No response on Tom's part.

What happened to confronting and shattering suppression?

Boo.

After about an hour, Lizza Uvizl, the woman who ever-so-lovingly filed a restraining order against AGP, came down the street, refusing to look in our direction and briskly walked into the building. AGP just so happened to have been present at the time.

Coincidence?

Around 7:30, when the movie was starting and the assorted celebs were all nestled in with their popcorn, we walked down to the garage entrance to catch people who weren't staying for the movie. A ladyfan who'd been in the tent area came over to chat with us. She'd wanted to leave but the valet guys had her car blocked in the garage. She asked us to give her info on what we had been yelling about and what kind of nasty business CoS was up to. We explained a bunch of stuff, including Fair Game, and she said "Yeah, I heard one of the guys on the corner talking on a radio about where you guys were standing and that you'd moved. I thought that was kind of creepy and excessive."

At least 2 paparazzi got film of us waving our signs around and Shoop hollering when Tom arrived. We also had our photos taken by several different paps. At one point, one of them came over to us and told us that Jenna Elfman apparently overheard Anons and got a nasty look on her face. "You got to her!" they said.

Tee hee.

Fun night, very receptive people on the street, everyone was on their best behavior and it was freakin' COLD. Ya know, for Cali...

This was posted on a local forum. It's a quote from The Complex concerning Anonymous.

quote:

"Scientology was firmly on the world agenda and as my confidence grew, an organisation called Anonymous emerged. Anonymous are really a viral marketing version of a human rights movement. It is made up of regular people from all professions, creeds and religions across the world, who had decided to stand up and say 'this is enough'. I think this Internet-based group of wonderful activists will prove to be Scientology's nemesis. They believe in the right to freedom of speech and fight organisations that try to hide nefarious deeds behind the cloak of legal threats and 'public relations'. Anonymous run forums, print material, alert journalists and, since February 2008, have staged protests every single month outside every Scientology Centre in the world. Their mere existence has empowered me, and many others, to be even more vocal in exposing this abusive cult. They have given me huge strength and a new-found belief in the human race. The humanity and the sense of empathy I have gotten from these strangers, or as the Church of Scientology has described them 'cyber-terrorists', has been just gut wrenching for me. Each and every one of them who have contacted me, have expressed their disgust and shock at the conditions endured by staff and Sea Org members.

When I realised what the movement are doing and how powerful a force Anonymous have become I actually broke down and cried. They are taking a stand for me and for Scientology's victims like Alice* and Lisa McPherson, and for the countless others whose stories have not been told but whose lives have been destroyed by this evil cult."

Numbers seem to have held almost steady as well! Quite impressive as I though we would lose heaps of anons when the date was so close to Christmas.

Lots of signs this month! Excellent work and make sure to bring them next month.
Loads of singing and dancing, all through the day, it was fantastic fun.

One of the few things that spoiled the day was the weather, despite being fairly cool and nice for summer it did rain a little bit on and off, but it didn't stop us and we went full steam ahead regardless.

One thing i did notice was the absence of any real speech, where was the opening speech [guys]? [GUYS]?
We did have some talking over the megaphone at a few points but there wasn't anything really substantial, what happened to using the doombox for speeches? I have my doubts whether they can actually hear us outside the org/seaorg with just a megaphone.

Also it would seem we cranked the doombox too loud and ran out of batterys before the end. So moar batteries or less volume next time.

Also [fun]: I am sure many of you remember that hyper asian dude we picked up on the way to the sea org, did anyone actually talk to him and figure out what was going on? I have to say, I laughed pretty hard at his antics. (will post picture later)

So all in all, a great raid. Well done anons, Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Celebrities get death threats all the time; if they're real I hope law enforcement deals with them, as they should. Anonymous has inside "sources" too, and according to them, Cruise is really worried about the Scientology protestors overshadowing his movie premieres - they don't want a repeat in London of what happened in New York and LA where the reporters seemed more interested in the protestors than the movie. London anons are you ready to overshadow his premiere? And to act as his bodyguards if these threats turn out to be real?

Perhaps somebody should follow up on this FBI story and see if it's real? When CoS spokesthetan Tommy Davis said on CNN that the FBI were investigating anti-Scientology protestors for attacking epilepsy forums, CNN had already done their homework and got a statement from the FBI which showed that Davis was wrong.

Journalists? Anyone?

Scientology has a new year's event which is pre-recorded and shown in all orgs at New Year's. David Miscavige has always been the MC at these events. You might remember him showing graphics of Scientology sending figurative hand grenades to government offices and vaxing about Global Oblitteration of psychiatry and "Apocalypse Now", as well as praising corporate sponsorships of Scientology programs without those corporations' knowledge.

The following is a rumor, but from several sources: David Miscavige was not hosting this year's event, but left the job to Tom Davis (famous for being Anne Archer's son, failing on CNN, and failing in the most recent Panorama documentary where BBC's man practiced Tone 40). It was taped in LA, but not in the the usual location. People were asking Where in the World is David Miscavige. Had he taken the money and run away? Then he was spotted at Flag in California attending the screening of the recorded event, so DM has been found.

A previous time where DM was oddly absent from an event like this was when the Lisa McPherson case was about to hit.

Is there some flap developing which requires DM's presence in Florida, or is he preparing to pass the baton to a new figurehead?

I've also seen Scientologists pushing scams of their own, but I don't have any data on whether Scientologists are more or less prevalent among scams except for the scams run by CoS.
