CentOS for servers.

Also, no linux is good if you have an amd/ati card lmao welcome to dos/windows 3.1 tier driver hell.

No kidding, my old system was AMD/ATI and I gave up trying to run a linux partition with all the drat headaches it caused, didnt matter which distro or "official AMD" drivers I tried. Had to use Virtualbox in the end :(

CentOS is like the stable version of Fedora. They're both around and alright. Fedora isn't bad on the desktop.

The worst is that it's not too hard to get it working, but it breaks when certain things update and gets real obnoxious to fix.

Fedora has a bullshit GUI (gnome? gently caress if I remember its name), idk how anyone finds that enjoyable.

When is the last time you tried it? It was a disaster around the 3.0 release, but it has come a long way since then. Gnome 2.x was great before then, and gnome is now great again.

Fedora also has releases with all the other popular environments that aren't Unity: https://spins.fedoraproject.org

But uh, there are lots of other distros so no real need to focus on fedora.

Yea, it would have been around 3.0, that was truly awful and I never went back, been running centos since, love that one.

i have a feeling OP posted this in GBS hoping for a larf but instead a bunch of nerds came out of the woodwork to post about linux using their nerd boner mashed up against the keyboard.

I used Ubuntu then Debian professionally for a number of years. Then I got sick and tired of wasting my time loving with drivers or whatever update broke what so I went back to windows. I'll probably never look back.

Windows 10 4 lyfe.

I dual-booted Mint as a stopgap when my Windows 7 distro hosed up majorly, and I've never really bothered looking back. It's great except for the three-hour process it took to get it to recognize the proprietary Nvidia drivers instead of the open-source ones.

The only time I jump back into Windows is to do photo editing, 'cause GIMP is total poo poo.

It doesn't even use the UNIX architecture. It's literally lovely Russian knock-off Windows.

I'm kind of morbidly curious to try it.

Lots of newbies use it so it's not to hard to find stuff on the net about whatever issue you have.
Apt is a really good installer.
They support the OS for like 5 years so you wont have to worry about upgrading for a long time.

It is not just for "human being nerds" it is for a lot of things, for instance I want to run a program to hijack the video stream on my Wii U tablet and I need to install a Linux that can run a program which will send out WiFi data's. Maybe try not to be so clothes-minded all the time.

No, It's got Red Flag which is China's RHEL fork but Red Star OS, which is another RHEL / CentOS fork, isn't on there.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
