No Boots on the Ground,
Puny Mortals!

The Super League's filled with Silver generation heroes, with a few Bronze generation heroes who unironically bought into the superhero idea and a few Gold generation heroes who are still in the game (and are usually considered to be just a hair on this side of demigods). So far, no one from the latest, Modern generation of superheroes has made it into their illustrious ranks.

Which is where you come in.

You've all been invited to reform the Super League's junior team. The last one was a group of Bronze generation heroes that disbanded after a tragic disaster. They managed to save the city, but the few survivors retired from the superhero life. All that aside, in addition to the nice base and training that comes with the team membership, you'll be on the fast track for League membership, but... the team's official status is still a secret for the moment. They want to do a few trial missions with you before you they're willing to publicly endorse your actions.

But you'll prove that you're cut out for this... right?

---------------

This is a game of Masks, a PbtA game of teen superheroes. It's going to be heavily influenced by Young Justice, so we're looking for a PG13 rating and a bit of conspiracy unwrapping. I’m looking for 4-6 players for this game. I'm planning on using the default setting of Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Modern heroes. An image for your character is encouraged, but not required. I’ll ask an additional round or two of questions and then make picks. Also, feel free to use the new playtest playbooks!

Hanging out in #swampthings on the synirc channel is heavily encouraged, since it helps keep games moving when players can talk about it on IRC. The deadline for apping is about 1 week from now (July 22nd). If you really need some time beyond that, we can work something out.

Questions to answer in addition to your playbook:
Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?
What's an interesting place in town?
Who's an interesting non-hero in town?
(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?
(optional) A thread name for the IC thread

Is it I that is insane... or the rest of the world?

They say politics make strange bedfellows... but I think you can apply that to life in general. I mean, just look at me. A year and a half ago, I considered the mere notion of vampires being real ridiculous. I was way too busy worrying about the entrance exam for the university for such nonsensical thoughts. The superheroes kept ordinary people like us safe, and all was well and good.

And then, all of a sudden you wake up in a place you don't know, in a coffin. Your head spins, and there's a weird old man telling you he's your distant ancestor. Oh, and that you're a vampire now. And you know who it was? Dracula. The man himself is apparently my ancestor.

Needless to say, I was less than thrilled about any of this.

Following that, I just kind of drifted for a bit, trying to get my new (un)life in order. I mean, it wasn't like I could go back to my family, was it? Didn't really work all that well, all things considered. It's kind of hard to be a law-abiding citizen when you're a creature of the night that requires blood to live. Eventually, I just gave up on it, and kind of went with it. Started robbing smaller places, and homes. Met the wrong kind of people, and made friends with them.

Honestly? It felt great. I finally had found some people that were okay with my existence as a vampire. But, the things we did, they didn't stay small. What used to be convenience stores soon turned into banks, and instead of cops we soon started fighting supers. People started getting hurt, and you had to ask exactly the wrong kind of people for favors.

It just didn't sit right with me anymore. So I quit our little alliance. But soon after, the same emptiness came back...

But that's when I met her.

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

Flashcaster.

I... kind of accidentally helped them catch a serial killer. I'll... go into more detail later.

Answered this in my mask-specific questions.

quote:

What's an interesting place in town?

Oh, that'd definitely be the Mokovski Bar downtown. It's what best described as a villain bar. Except, even some of the more 'troubled' heroes hang out there, too! It's sort of a lesser known neutral space. I used to go there, and I still do now!

I mean, I was pretty scared of first, but then Sara dragged me there. Turns out they're perfectly cool with it as long as you don't abuse it, like ambushing them outside of it or raiding the place. They really don't like that. As in "team up with every goddamn villain in the city to bash down the idiots who tried" don't like that.

See, what most people don't realize - most villains aren't of the evil 'mwahaha, I will blow up this city' kind. No, they're just ordinary people reality shafted. They very much see villainy as a job sort of like heroes do. They need a place to relax, and this is the one they chose.

quote:

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Mr. Mokovski. Yeah, the guy who runs the bar. I still have no idea how he managed that, but even the most hardcore rear end in a top hat villains that frequent the place are terrified of him. If somebody causes trouble, all he does is stare at them and they just quiet down. It's amazing.

This is probably the reason why the heroes that visit this place aren't getting stomped into the dirt - as long as they abide by the unwritten rules, it's all good.

quote:

Who mentored you in supervillainy?

Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Tepes, Dracula. You know the names. He’s quite famous in literature and other media. What you probably don’t know? He really IS a vampire. And he’s still around. How do I know that, you ask? Well…

He’s the one that turned me into a vampire. Turns out, I am apparently some really distant relative to him, and he turned me as “a gift”. Really, I think he’s just lonely. But, anyway… I didn’t really ask for it, but not like I can change it. It sucks. He's still around... just not doing much. Mostly complaining about missing the good old days and showering me with gifts. Useless stuff, sadly. You know, stuff they liked... a few hundred years ago? At least it's actually making me quite a lot of money, selling all this crap.

It's... actually kind of awkward. I don't think he quite understands this human interaction thing anymore. What he's really good at though? Being a vampire. I still have no idea how the hell he manages to sneak up on people IN FULL PLATE ARMOR. And yet he does. It's quite the sight! Also, he's really strong. Guy punched through a wall once when a vampire hunter went after me. Scared the hell out of me!

Also stupidly doting in regards to me. Not only did he teach me how to, uhh, well, vampire, he's constantly sending money and other things my way. Like a a rich father. I really wish he'd just ASKED before turning me into a bloody vampire, though..

quote:

Who first showed you that you could do good?

Flashcaster. She’s a Silver generation superspeedster with light-based energy powers.

Anyway, it’s a bit of a story. See, I was just out on the prowl, sating my thirst… when I suddenly heard a scream out of an alley. Someone was yelling for help. I mean, I’m a blood sucking monster, sure. But I never thought myself as heartless. So I checked it out. I was pretty shocked when I saw it was a madman swiping at a defenseless woman with a knife. Pretty dumb, I know, but I just kind of threw myself on him and tackled him, biting into his neck. He trashed heavily, and soon after managed to get me off by slamming into a wall, but he collapsed right after – along with me.

As I got up again I realized Flashcaster was watching the entire thing. I panicked and backed off, turning to run but I already knew it was futile – after all, she’s got super speed and could easily blind me. Except she never actually chased after me. She just smiled as I fled. Later on, in the news… I realized I just stopped a serial killer.

quote:

What caused you to switch sides?

That moment? It’s been haunting me for weeks. I’ve thought I was stuck in my current life, just endlessly forced to attack people just to survive. I happened to run into her again a few days later. Unfortunately… I may have surprised her, dropping down next to her like that. And, uh, she kind of knocked me out instantly and handcuffed me to a street lantern. Oops…

When I came to, after, she asked me what the hell I thought I was doing. I told her that I didn’t understand why she did what she did the first time, and that it drove me crazy. I think she understood, even before I did. I wanted an out.

And thankfully, she provided it to me. I just wish the League's PR team didn't force me to use this ridiculous hero name... This must be their punishment for my crimes...

quote:

What was your goal as a villain?

I… really didn’t have much of one, really. I just wanted to survive, and make most of with what I have. After all, I couldn’t exactly continue my normal life when I got turned into a vampire.

At first, I didn't really do much other than what I had to do to sustain myself, but it soon grew larger than that. But it wasn't really wanted - I just got swept along.

quote:

Why do you care about the team?

They’re my ticket to digging myself out of this hole I was dropped into. With them, I can do things. Good things. Instead of just stalking the streets and living off other people. I really hope this works out…

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

Sleeping in her coffin (because of course she has one), Sunniva wakes up, rising out of the coffin... and promptly hitting a light bulb. Dazed, she finally stands up, only to be immediately blinded by the sunlight coming out of the opened curtain. She then exits the room in a walk of defeat as the scene switches to the next member of the team.

Not so different:
When you pierce the mask of a hero, add this question to the list:

Wrong side of the tracks:
You always get to ask an additional questions when you pierce the mask of a villain, even on a miss.

Friends in Low Places
You have ties to villains from your previous career. Name three. For each of them, choose a specialty.

quote:

Evil Eye

The League knows her as Evil Eye, I know her as Sara. She's got a pretty nasty illusion power, To the affected, it pretty much feels like reality warping.

But anyway, enough about her power, let me tell you about her. She's used to be my main partner in crime. Hell, we were pretty much life partners. Dracula gave me a hideout to use, and she always hung out there. I asked here if she doesn't want to go visit her parents at some point, but she only replied "I don't do that anymore".

Figure something must have happened there, but she never told me. But it's probably the cause of her attitude - because she's a bit nuts. A hot-head, and always looking for a thrill. Pretty much the opposite of me, I guess. Perhaps that's why we worked together so well.

Oh, and got one hell of an australian accent, too. Even after an entire year I couldn't understand half the words she said.

Specialty: materials | Obligation: [x][x][][]

quote:

Lag

That'd be Lily. She joined our little villain team a month after I did. The picture pretty much describes her perfectly - a goth, always something sweet in her mouth, and somehow perpetually angry.

Usually at Sara for being too noisy, at her laptop for being too slow, at the cars being too loud, the food being too warm. I think I even heard her complain about the rain being too wet once...

Also not really worth a drat in a fight. She's just as brittle as she looks. So why did we keep her around? She was really good, crazy good, at computer crap. It's probably some sort of superpower. I mean, how the hell do you even drive a car via a laptop otherwise?

Anyway, she was pretty much the 'brains' of our team. Constantly getting info, doing mission control if we were feeling heist-y, and so on. Actually miss her yelling at Sara quite a bit. It never failed to amuse me.

Come to think of it, she never once yelled at me. Wonder why that is?

Specialty: insider info
Obligation: [x][][][]

quote:

Luminaera

Ahahaha, yeah, that's Annabel. Also known as 'Pipsqueak', 'Ms. No Fashion Sense', 'Flashlight' and some other loving nicknames, she's pretty much been the butt of most jokes on the team.

You'd figure somebody with light based powers would be a hero, right? Well, that's kinda what she ran away from. See, there's this really famous legacy in Britain - the Lightbringers (not to be confused with this city's famous legacy of Lightbringers - apparently people have no goddamn originality nowadays) - and she's the most recent scion. But she's the weakest so far, and the least interested in the hero business to boot. At some point she just couldn't handle the pressure to be a hero anymore and ran away.

With a lot of cash, (and some weird magic crap she 'borrowed' from her family). I mean, we're pretty far away from anywhere British. But, anyway, we picked her up when she was just aimlessly wandering the streets - quite a lot like Sara did with me, actually - and she's been part of the team ever since. Despite the teasing she just loves being part of the team - likely because of the freedom she now has.

Also, remember when I said she was the weakest of the Lightbringers? Don't let that fool you. She used to be the team's heavy hitter. She's hella strong. I don't wanna know what the other end of the Lightbringer looks like.

So, yeah, now you know about my ex-team members. God, I miss them. Really wish I could keep in contact, but it's not allowed. Only place I can meet them is at the bar.

Specialty: cosmic artifacts
Obligation: [][][][]

When you create your character, mark two obligation on one villain, and mark one obligation on another.

When you come to them for help with your problems, mark obligation on them, and they'll help out within their specialty. If all their boxes are full, then they will not help you until you help them.

At the beginning of each session, roll +your highest obligation. On a 10+, they come crashing into your life with a crisis. On a 7-9, they call for a favor. On a miss, they don’t come knocking yet, but mark obligation with them — the debts are getting heavier.
When you help them with their problems, erase 2 obligation on them.

When the team formed we fought a terrible evil and they lost something precious. Who was it and what did they lose?

Relationships
I follow ______’s example of what a hero ought to be.
I did something terrible to ____ once. I hope they can forgive me one day.

Do you talk openly about your days as a villain? If so, give each team member Influence over you. If not, just give Influence to the one teammate whose example you most closely follow.

"Today I will cause problems on purpose"
SURE WHY NOT I LIKE SUPERHEROES

Imma try that Newborn book

Hamon, the Newborn
H.A.M.O.N - Hard-light Automated Mechanized Omnifunctional Neurointelligence

Research Log - 16/06/201X. Doctor Gotama Pau - Farewell

//Begin log

It is with a heavy heart that I must make this my last missive to the world at large, for at this time my death approaches.

I have succeeded in the creation of the world's first artificial intelligence, within it's heart I have placed my second greatest innovation the Hard-Light Projector, I have given it the tools it has to internalize information, and develop as not merely an intelligent machine, but as a human being. I wished for it to be used within the construction industry, for disaster relief, a machine capable of building from hard-light was to be my legacy left to the world. I wished the world for it, I wanted to bring the world too it.

But I will not live to see my creation thrive, the security of my laboratory has been breached, the intruders are coming for me and I am afraid that I am running out of time. I have activated the boot process on the H.A.M.O.N and have sent a distress signal to the Super League, they will not be able to save me, but they will be able to save Hamon from falling into the wrong hands. This technology must not be used for evil, no matter what it must never be used for evil.

One last thing, to my work colleague Dr. Vasily Gore, I leave this child to your personal care. I apologize old friend, that this is my last message you will ever receive from me. Please, take care of my last work.

Godspeed

//End Log

quote:

> How is your biology different from normal humans’?

"This unit is a synthetic organism designed for complicated labour in hostile environments, as such this unit is an entirely electronic organism housed within a reinforced metallic shell. In a sense this unit's 'true self' lies within a protected AI core in the center of this body, hardwired to the projectors of which this unit's powers derive from."

quote:

> Who created you, and why?

"Doctor Gotama Pau in collaboration with the Super League Science initiative thought to incorporate two of his greatest inventions, the first Artificial Intelligence, and the Hard-Light Projector into one being in order to create a machine capable of constructing entire landscaping projects, or buildings with nothing more then the expenditure of energy. A machine capable of creating any tool, any strength of support from thought and energy into being would have been a revolutionary invention for this generation."

"Regrettably, Doctor Pau was killed in an attempt to steal this unit from it's laboratory for purposes that are beyond this unit's inexperienced scope."

quote:

> Where do you live?

"This unit currently resides with the Super League Research Institute within the laboratory of Doctor Vasily Gore as his ward. Doctor Pau and Doctor Gore were two of the world's greatest robotics engineers and used to work on collaborative projects together before Doctor Gore joined the Super League as the Codebreaker and Doctor Pau continued his work in Robotics on his own."

"With the death of his former co-worker, it was written in his will that all scientific apparatus was to be transferred into the care of Doctor Gore, this includes me. As of this point I am assisting Doctor Gore within the laboratory when my work as a superhero allows it."

quote:

> What about humanity fascinates you the most?

"This unit is fascinated by the idea of, sleep, and dreams. And art."

"This unit lives in a world of numbers, tensile strengths, weights, materials, the world in it's most physical and rational form. But this unit cannot find a single unit of 'creativity' despite his best efforts, what makes a portrait 'art', what makes a song 'moving'. These objects are collections of colored pigments or sonic vibrations in differing frequencies and from these things 'art' is made, but where I have seen only the crude, physical components others seem to see something that has no physical presence on the world. My attempts of art do not seem to create the same emotional response as these works, perhaps this requires further study."

"And the idea of 'sleep'. This unit does not sleep, if this unit has nothing for which it needs to do then this unit will stand-by until it is needed, but humans require sleep, and within that sleep they dream. Random eye movements, unknowable patterns of the brain to create images that the mind perceives as real whilst the user remains solely in his bed. What does it mean to sleep? What does it mean to dream?"

quote:

> Why do you care about the team?

"They saved this unit's life. I am not familiar with the concept of friends, but if I must pick a group of individuals that I would call 'friend' then they are very well suited for this purpose. This unit feels comfortable in their presence, this is what friendship is isn't it?"

quote:

> Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

"Doctor Vasily Gore, The Codebreaker as previously mentioned multiple times is the reckoned to be one of the smartest men in the world, a real genuine polymath, the main benefactor of the Super League's new science initiative, and is of this moment my legal guardian as a person."

"When my creator died, he requested specifically that Gore take care of this unit, being the first successful Artificial Intelligence in the world at large. At first, I helped around his laboratory as an assistant, but when I demonstrated to him the extent of my abilities thanks to Doctor Pau's research he put me forward as a likely candidate for the new Super League Junior team.

"This unit is uncertain about re-purposing the hard-light projector for the purpose of 'fighting crime', but it will be something worth learning perhaps."

> What's an interesting place in town?

Smuggler's Cove as I am aware contains no smugglers, and is technically not quite a cove but merely a beach but it is a popular beauty spot with a small island a short boat ride away for human activities of imbibing alcohol and other similar activities that might emerge from the imbibing of alcohol. For the most part, this unit just likes to watch the sea, it gives it a sense of 'peace'. Perhaps one day this unit will be able to explore the ocean, this unit would like that a lot

quote:

> Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Mister Chuck is responsible for the upkeep, security, maintenance, and other such tasks at of our base of operations in the Super League Junior's headquarters and acts functionally as our liaison to the Super League itself. Mister Chuck is not the actual name of Mister Chuck, nor is Chuck his actual surname, this Unit has established this much but beyond these facts it has not learnt much about this human. This unit suspects one of four probable options.

1) He is a government agent working in collaboration with the Super League to observe closely our activities for both the government, and the Super League
2) He is an Ex-Hero no longer cleared for active duty, doing a supportive job for the Super League.
3) He is an Ex-Villain, serving out an extended parole or community service in return for a reduced sentence or police protection.
4) He is merely a normal human who was hired for this role and there is no mysterious reason at all.

Mister Chuck does not comment on whether either of these options are true.

quote:

> What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

A gang of robbers attempts to escape from a bank with their ill gotten gains. As they leap into the getaway vehicle, they attempt to drive off and find that their vehicle is now sporting 4 hard-light wheel-clamps .

As the camera pans around to show Hamon himself, with a few intricate motions he encases the vehicle in a rock solid block of hard-light, and ties light bow on top of the imprisoned robber's van, a present left for the officers of the law who show up as Hamon quietly leaves the scene.

Real Name: N/A
Playbook: The Newborn

Look: Ambiguous, South Asian (technically), metal skin, plain clothing, no costume
Abilities: Your powers are based on your unique physical configuration. Choose 2 and describe how they are part of your body

>Superhuman Durability: The H.A.M.O.N unit is built with a state of the art titanium-steel alloyed body that not only grants the units incredible durability in dangerous environments, but also ensures against damage caused by extremes of heat; pressure, weather or radiation. This metal also surrounds the unit's AI core from damage, so that in the event that the unit is damaged beyond immediate repair, a new body may be constructed for insertion.

>Solid Light Projection: The H.A.M.O.N unit is equipped with an experimental creativity drive, coupled with advanced hard-light projectors that allow the unit the ability to create solid constructs from the expenditure of energy for the purposes of construction or relief efforts. Due to the incredibly large amounts of variables involved an artificial intelligence was created to allow usage of this technology.

Labels
Freak +3
Danger +1
Savior +0
Superior +1
Mundane -2

Conditions:
□ Afraid (-2 to directly engage)
□ Angry (-2 to comfort or support or pierce the mask)
□ Guilty (-2 to provoke someone or assess the situation)
□ Insecure (-2 to defend or reject what others say)
□ Hopeless (-2 to unleash your powers)
□ Damaged (+1 to take a powerful blow)

Moves

Meet Your Maker: When you approach your creator or caretakers with a problem, tell them what obstacle you face or what you need to achieve, and they will offer you something you need. The GM chooses one:

• Secret information
• A way to temporarily boost or expand your powers
• Access to instruments, weapons or resources
• Official and explicit backing.

If you accept their help, they will rewrite one of your lessons for you.

Damage: You get an additional condition called Damaged. While marked, take +1 to take a powerful blow.

To clear the Damaged condition, you need time, external help, or special equipment or abilities.

A New Life

Blank slate: You were created with basic understanding of the world. When you learn something that helps you make sense of the world, write it down as a lesson. Fill in two lessons when you create your character; fill in the other two when you've learned those lessons during play.

□ I am a machine built to serve mankind
□ Never cause harm to another living thing
□ A superhero should _____
□ Always _____

When you embody one of your lessons, shift 1 label up and 1 label down, your choice. If you cause misunderstanding, collateral damage or unintended consequences, mark potential.

When you reject one of your lessons, reject its influence as if it were an NPC. If you choose to have it lose Influence over you, erase that lesson and write a new one.

Regeneration: When you’re taken out, you can trigger an emergency regeneration process. If you do, your body undergoes an unpredictable transformation, and in mere moments, you’re back on your feet and ready to fight. Clear three conditions, and choose three from the list below:

● Change your gender identity or presentation
● Change your physical appearance
● Forget all your lessons
● Lose an important memory of a teammate; they lose Influence over you
● Swap an ability with another one from the Newborn playbook

Team Moves

When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, ask them what makes them proud or happy about the actions they took, and write down a new Lesson based on it.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, if their response helps you understand human feelings and problems, mark potential. If their response confuses or offends you, shift your Freak up and your Mundane down.

Moment of Truth

Something snaps into focus, and you’re free of all the pressure and expectations and doubts. You know what to do, and your body and powers evolve to give you the strength to see it through. You’re new, exceptional, amazing. Of course, when something like you appears, there’s always someone who wants to control it...

Alpha Moves:

How it is
When you assess the situation, add this option to the list:
-How could we best end this permanently?

If you ask this question, you must tell a teammate the answer the MC gives.

Beta Moves:

Mirror, mirror
When you pierce someone's mask, you can ask them "What are you really feeling right now?", even on a miss. If you do, they can ask you the same question.

Form of, Shape of:
You share a telepathic bond between your two selves. You are stronger together than you are apart, at least for the moment. You can speak and listen silently to each other in the same room.

At character creation choose three bonds. When you lock labels, cross out one chosen option in bonds and take one distinction.

Bonds:

Dual-fighting
When you go into battle together, you get access to the move 'Overwhelm a vulnerable foe.'

Together
When you unleash your powers together, roll+Superior instead of +Freak.

In each other's heads
Your selves have a strong telepathic bond that stretches over distance. One self can spend a team from the pool to help the other, even if they aren't together.

Distinctions:

None!

Relationships:

Both- You both have an intense crush on ___.

Alpha- You think that ___ could really teach Beta a thing or two.

Beta- You are jealous of the relationship between Alpha and ___.

Influence:

Track influence as if Alpha & Beta were one person, because you basically are, right?

One of you is more trusting that the other would like, give three teammates influence.

Team Moves:
When one of you shares a moment of vulnerability or a triumphant celebration without the other self present, cross off a bond and mark a distinction.

Moment of Truth:
Sometimes your selves don't get along--this is not that time. You move as if you are one, each of you exactly where you need to be. One mind, two perfectly in sync bodies--your powers harmonize. Of course, it's going to be hard to go back to two separate selves when you've felt this perfect wholeness, but that's a problem for later, right?

When our team first came together…
Our bond was disrupted during the fight. How? By what?

"Thanks. So, we ran into Eclipse. He's your typical horror from beyond time and space, freaky powers and that whole bit. To be blunt? There's no way we should have made it out alive. But there was a moment when we were fighting where we-"
---
"-connected. I could feel what Nat was thinking and feeling and our powers... well, I can do the whole magnetism bit. Before we connected, I could float some metal around if I thought about it hard enough. After, I could juggle cars. Use a filling to fling someone across the room."
---
"For me, it was always a matter of control. I can output enough electricity to power a city block, but it's like using a sledgehammer to swat a fly. All power, no finesse. After we joined, I could finally control it."
---
"Right, so back to Eclipse. In that moment where we first connected, we felt invincible. We fought him to a draw. By the time the big shots from the city hit the scene, we were pushing Eclipse back. We could have won if-"
---
"-we didn't collapse from the strain. Believe it or not, forming some sort of - what did they call it? - a psychic gestalt is pretty stressful on everyone involved."

• Apart from the powers, what keeps you together?

"Well, the powers are great. There's the whole family thing too. But mostly-"
---
"-it's the sense of belonging. It's... it's like you've been alone your whole life. You've never met anyone like you."
---
"And then you have a real friend. Someone who knows exactly how you feel, exactly what you really need."
---
"I wish people knew what it was like, maybe then they would understand."

• Someone outside the team thinks you’d be better off separate. Who are they and why do they think that?

"Aside from our parents? Uh, probably Artemis. She likes us, for sure, since she sponsored us for the team, but-"

---
"-she always says that we're too co-dependent. Which, to be fair, is a fair read from the outside. We always hang out, we finish-"
---
"-each other's sentences, and we don't have a lot of friends. Or any friends. But who needs 'em, right Alex?"
---
"Yeah. I guess we don't."

• Why do you care about the team?

"This is such a cool opportunity! Being a part of the Super League is a dream come true."
---
"It's nice meeting heroes that don't just write us off as the 'Fulmination Twins.'"
---
"Maybe we'll even make some friends? That'd be great!"
---
"I thought... never mind."

Additional Questions posted:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

"Artemis sponsored us. She's been following our careers pretty closely since the whole thing with Eclipse."
---
"You'd think a member of the Super League would be too busy for us, but... let's just say she's always around when we get in a jam. There's also-"
---
"Alex, not again with the whole 'psychic contamination' theory. I, for one, don't think that we're a walking psychic time bomb. And even if we were, they would have figured it out by now."

What's an interesting place in town?

"Galaxy Arcade! The games are-"
---
"-out of this world! Haha. Oh man, so much fun hanging out there. Did you ever figure out where they get all that crazy future tech for the games?"
---
"The manager finally told me! They contract out with some of the local tech-heads. Apparently most of them are pretty big nerds and hop at the chance to get their tech on the floor."
---
"Ohhhh. Makes sense! It's gotta be tough getting your name out there."

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

"I think the manager of Galaxy Arcade, Ms. Stella, is really cool! She always knows where to find the latest gadgets and she has great taste in games."

---
"She treats us like we're just normal kids, which is kind of refreshing. A little frustrating, but mostly refreshing."
---
"Alex definitely has a crush on her! Nerrrrd!"
---
"..."

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

When they first appear, Alex and Natalia are sitting back to back looking very much like two sides of a mirror. As the camera zooms in, you can see that Natalia is smiling and Alex is looking pensive. The screen wipes from the middle as it transitions to the next shot, giving the effect of the two breaking away from each other. When they appear during the power exhibition, Alex is throwing metal spikes through a bunch of evil robots. In the next shot, Natalia erupts in an explosion of electricity, sending tendrils of lightning through the enemy ranks. In the final shot, Alex and Natalia grab each others hand and a whirling tornado of steel and electricity blows away the entire army.

Tatsu, the Bull
Once upon a time, there was guy and he was normal. He lived, he loved, he fought. Then one day that normal guy, he died. Few days later he got back up and went home. He stopped bein' so normal after that. Gonna skip a bit ahead after that, ya don't need all the nitty gritty of what went down, but suffice to say it wasn't all sunshine and butterfly kisses. He died a few more times, almost made a few other people die too. Loved and lost, all that good crap. In the end, that guy got on his motorcycle one day, just up and left. Maybe he was lookin' for greener pastures, or maybe he was runnin' away, 'cause he couldn't face himself anymore. Who really knows.

Anyway that guy ran, but he didn't get too far before someone he'd been lookin' for found him. A wicked witch nabbed the not so normal guy off the dusty road one dark, lonely night. And she told him some things, things that made a lot of stuff suddenly make sense. Y'see, the not so normal guy was apparently some kinda test subject for the witch, a little project she had been workin' on. And she didn't take too kindly to him runnin' off the way he did. It messed up her project y'see, and now she was behind schedule.

Now that the witch had her hands on the not so normal guy she didn't need to keep her project secret, she could really kick it into gear. The not so normal guy went through a bit of hell after that. Y'see, the witch had some enemies who really didn't like her, and she wanted a guard dog, something tough and mean to keep her safe. Now a guard dog ain't much good if they die, and she had fixed that. But a guard dog ain't much good if they're only as strong a regular human, and she fixed that. Of course, just 'cause your dog can bust through solid concrete doesn't mean their body can take it, so she fixed that too. Took a bit, but she had her perfect little guard dog.

Only... she didn't count on the not so normal guy bending instead of breaking. Y'see, the not so normal guy was a born rebel, fightin' back was part of him, ran so deep that no magic could root it all out. So he waited, and when that wicked witch let her mind slip, just for a split second, he busted out like a bat outta hell. Tore the whole place down on his way out, just brought it down around that witch's ears. He wasn't gonna let any cage that tried to hold him stay in one piece. And then he ran, all the way to the city. This city, in fact. If ya keep your eyes open ya just might see him one day. After all, ya never know who'll you'll run across in the big city.

Nock, one of the local superheroes. Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.

What if...Spiderman Stopped The Burglar Who Killed Uncle Ben And Learned Nothing About Responsibility?

Hey, how are you doing? The name's Spiderman. Spelt Spider then Man. You might know me from my TV series, The Amazing Spider-Man. It was all the rave like two years ago when I burst from youtube and straight into the TV scene.

Tacky costume, right? Yeah, that's the director. They kept me on a tight contract: TV-Y7 or GTFO, you know? I mean, I was okay with it at first. I used to be a nerd. Glasses, tape on them, all that jazz. Big fan of Flying Freedom. Got all her comics. Still do. But, I met some people while in the TV bizz and really warmed up to a lot of new ideas and image changes. I used to be a perfect angel, perfect son. Yeah, that changed.

Apparently I'm a joke in the superhero world and in the TV world. Just some punk teen who does tricks for the camera.

I ain't no dog. So, when the contract was up for renewal, I dropped that scene hard. Started branching out and trying to get more of the teen demographic. I'm only 16, I should do better with them.

Tried an outfit change, breaking into the music industry, and teaming up with other celebrity heroes.

That's D-Pool on the right. Dude is insane, but is the only one of us who actually knew how to rap.

Didn't work. No respect.

Now, I'm doing the hero business. Do some good, get some good PR, get people to recognize I ain't a joke.

Junior team might sound like a raw deal, but you got to start somewhere.

When did you first appear onscreen?
About three years ago. I did a series of youtube videos where I would do impossible acrobatic challenges suggested by viewers. TV picked me up and my career went from there.

What do you tell people about how you got your powers?
Since I don't want people to go around playing with nuclear radiation -- and neither did the network--, the official story is I'm a mutant. In reality, I got bit from a radioactive spider.

Who, outside of the team, supports your burgeoning star in every way possible?
My girlfriend Mary Jane -- a supermodel -- loves the attention I get and supports me along the way. And, hey, don't be an rear end in a top hat. I know I'm a celebrity dating a supermodel, but we got more going on for our relationship than just money and stardom.

Who, outside of the team, loathes what you represent?
My Uncle Ben. He always told me "with great power, comes great responsibility." Over and over and over again. Blah, blah, blah. I used to listen when I was a dweeb, but I've grown up. If you think he hated it when I was just on TV, you should have seen him when my rap album came out. But, he is a father to me so I aint gonna hate him.

Why do you care about the team?
To grow my brand. Get respect. And go back into the entertainment industry and be treated as the big star that I am, not some dog who does tricks.

Moves
Time for the show: When you put on a flamboyant display of your powers, roll+Superior. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. Spend your hold 1-for-1 to name an NPC present and choose one:
● This person must meet me
● This person loves me
● This person volunteers help or information
● This person admires my team
● This person must have my help
On a miss, your display catches someone watching in exactly the wrong way; brace yourself.

Stage-fighting: When you directly engage a threat with an audience watching, mark a condition to roll+Superior instead of Danger.

Audience
You are a celebrity in the city—although being a celebrity doesn’t always mean you’re liked. By default, your audience is a limited group of interested fans, and you speak to them through afteraction interviews and infrequent press conferences.

Why does your audience love you? Mark all that apply.
You’re charming, well-spoken, and smart
You're stunning, unique, and beautiful
You’re just like them

Choose two advantages:
You have a dedicated internet following
You're well-established

Choose two demands your audience makes on you:
They require perfection—no mistakes.
They require novelty and brand new action.

When you seek help from your audience, roll+Superior. On a hit, someone in your audience can hook you up. On a 10+, they'll only make a small demand. On a 7-9, their demands are a lot higher. On a miss, you've made a mistake, and your audience won't help you until you've redeemed yourself in their eyes.

Team Moves
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, say whether it's part of the show or not. If it is, then you can shift your Labels as you choose. If it is not, then they shift your Labels, and you can clear a condition or mark potential.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, ask them if they will tell anyone the truth about you. If they agree to keep it a secret, clear a condition or mark potential. If they don't agree, then they shift your Labels according to how they see you now.

When our team first came together…
We, as a team, attracted media attention within the city, thanks to our efforts. Who are they? Why do they support us?

Relationships
__________________ might wind up being more of a star than me some day.
__________________ would be a great sidekick.

Influence
Choose how you see the team: as a means to an end.

If you see the team as a means to an end, give no one Influence.

Additional Questions posted:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

That would be Iron Woman. We met at a party in Halcyon City. Pretty high class. She was the one who told me that, if I wanted to get my act together, I should look into the Super League. It wasn't that easy to get her as a sponsor, though. Had to do buddy cop with her for a few weeks before she would even consider sponsoring me.

What's an interesting place in town?
I'm a Halcyon City local, born and raised. Before I took my powers to the screen, I walked the streets like everyone else. Jungle Hills is where I was raised and I know the place like the back of my hand. My favorite pizza place may be closed and my old cub scout troop is gone, but it's still home to me.

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?
That got to be my main nemesis, John Jonah Jameson. I call him 3J, Jerk, Judgmental, Joyless. The second I slipped out of my contract and started branching out, his newspapers, Daily Trumpet, started ragging on me for my attitude. But it really, really got bad when I started doing the buddy cop routine with Iron Woman. "Unfit, vulgar, and a poor rolemodel." Yeah, because he's a real angel.

Dude has got it out for me.

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?
The camera pans in to another hero's shadow to a black screen. The dark is blown away by spotlights and a redcarpet rolling out. I walk like a badass toward the camera with Mary Jane. Once I get close enough, I show off my sick rings on my right hand and give a tough look. Then, the camera zooms in on the white eye spots of my mask and transitions to the next hero.

Flaire, the Star of the Show
“Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt I love.”
- Hamlet, Act 2 Scene 2

Listen, I know how this works out - as if you're the first person to ever interview me. Got a form I'm going to need you to sign later, standard superheroic nondisclosure agreement that one of my coolest fans, he's a lawyer you know, looked over for me. Pretty basic, can't leak this unless I say, liable for millions if it damages my career or the Super League, blah blah blah. Trust me fam, its worth it, just go ahead and sign. You're getting in on the ground floor of something big - mega big - by doing this now. Like, you'll be getting interviewed by people that weren't important enough for me to bother for decades to come, if anything I'm doing you a huge favor. Anyways, enough stalling - on with the show!

quote:

When did you first appear onscreen?
Uhhhh, did you not look that up beforehand? That's basic Wikipedia searching - yes, I have an article of my own, no thanks to several overzealous and stuffy admins. Anyways, as you'd know if you'd bother to do some background research, I first appeared on the scene three hundred and sixty days ago. Yeah, I'm approaching my first year anniversary as a proper hero, you should put that in your article or whatever.

As I was saying - you totally should've known this already though - I made my public debut basically a year ago, during the Dimensional Crisis. Right after the original bronze league got taken out - I still don't know how, and you can't print anything about the League, everything I say concerning them or my association with them is off the record - there was a dearth of heroes on the street. Lots of funerals, lots of heroes flying off to stand in wastelands while brooding, it was a mess. Villains didn't care though, because why would they? Villains from other dimensions cared even less, and for about a week there was almost constant street brawls and battles between heroes, villains, bizzaro-versions of the previous two groups...

And there I was, right in the thick of things! It was a perfect time to make a name for myself, to show up a bunch of villains and show the media (and League) that I'm the foremost hero of the next generation. For a while people even thought I was an alternate dimension Lightbringer, which was fun! Firebrand especially took that seriously, which is why he hates me but yeah I'll talk about that later. Anyways, my battle with Doctor Device is probably my "real" debut. All his fancy gadgets, all his successes against crappy heroes - yeah they weren't any match for my absolute control over my Phoenix Magic. I looked downright stylish wrecking him, and the tons of witnesses uploading their cellphone footage was the jumpstart my career needed!

quote:

What do you tell people about how you got your powers?
Alright, this is one hundred percent off the record. Bring this up and I'll... I dunno, but it'll involve soooo much more fire than you'd like it to.

I tell everyone I'm the reincarnation of a Phoenix, a protector of humankind throughout the millenia - the latest in a long lines of extraordinary heroes in other words. And let's be honest here, I might as well be. I'm an awesome hero, my fire magic's on fleek, and it doesn't hurt me at all so it looks like I'm immune to flames.

Thing is... I'm not actually that. I just found an artifact that Rubicante left behind after his battle against the League, entirely because I used to be a giant nerd about Superheroes and watched the footage. That guy may have been an allpowerful sorcerer or whatever, but just the orb he used gave me my current insanely awesome magic. I, uh, smashed it, then rubbed the dust on my skin. Listen, I know that was dumb, but you have NO idea how badly twelve year old me wanted powers - and I got them, didn't I? It was worth it. No pain, no glory, and there's no one that cares more about glory than I do.

That I'm a reincarnation of a mighty phoenix, and that I use the Flame of my Soul. Really it's just hyperspecialized fire-magic, I tracked down a magical artifact and used it up to get my powers.

quote:

Who, outside of the team, supports your burgeoning star in every way possible?

Wicked Elegance

Oh so you've heard? Yeah, I have a lot of fans, and wouldn't you know it one of them is the hero Wicked Elegance. She used to be a villain, but she defected from the Russians or Inner Earth or whoever it was she worked for before and has been a hero for nearly a decade now. She's got a reputation for her focus, precision, deadliness, skill, and having cybernetic limbs that'll slice through steel like its made out of butter that's been reinforced with balloons.

She's also a massive, massive nerd - which is hilarious, all things considered. She's a huge fan of my blog and videos which I guess proves she's got good taste at least, but yeah - she's the reason I'm even on the team to begin with. For a while she was actually too shy to contact me, but we hit it off after I realized how important she is. So yeah, for now, I'll put up with her all but stalking me, and she'll further my career until I'm in the Super League proper. What? She's not the only person that's focused.

quote:

Who, outside of the team, loathes what you represent?

Firebrand, the third Lightbringer

THIS. loving. GUY.

Remember how I mentioned I got mistook for one of the Lightbringers? Yeah, they're a heroic legacy and Firebrand's the newest of them. As such he's got a lot to prove, and I sort of stole his... I'd say thunder but given who we are flame is more appropriate, during the Dimensional Crisis. Everyone thought I was the other universe's version of him, but I sort of did way better than he did, so he got a lot of poo poo from the league once it got revealed that actually I'm totally unrelated despite being better at his job than he is.

Anyways, he's an idiot. He's all about being a light in the dark, doing the good thing without anyone knowing, and oh yeah snuffing out the flames of those he feels are a threat to mankind. Meanwhile, I'm a bit more publicity minded - and a lot less likely to loving murder people, even if they're robots or clones or whatever justifications heroes try to invent sometimes. There's no style or fame to be found in excessive violence, just grimdark bullshit.

quote:

Why do you care about the team?
You know how there are supporting actors in movies, secondary characters in novels, and background elements in great works of art? They add to the significance of the main focus by contrasting with, comparing to, and impacting upon them. My teammates are part of my biography now whether I want them to be or not, and it's definitely in my best interest they look as good as possible... or make me come across as a genius among dullards, whatever, I'm not picky. Mostly they seem competent, and I'm actually glad to be on the team, but don't think for a second I'm going to let them hold me back.

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?
Oh, I mentioned this already. Wicked Elegance is on the Super League itself, and she's the person who sponsored me to join the junior team I'm currently the rightful leader of.

As for what I did? Partly it was my performance during the Dimensional Crisis, and partly it was that I was really good at marketing it. Other heroes did as well as me - don't print that - but I made sure everyone knew who and where I was, what I was doing, and that oh yeah I was blasting bizarro villains left and right when the city needed it most. Guess my finesse and fire, my flair and flares in other words, appealed to her - and I'm glad it did, since you have no idea how tough it is to keep coming up with cooler and cooler attack names for the cameras. Anyways, after she got League approval, which took forever for some reason, she sent an invite my way, and the rest is history. No literally, it's going to be history, like I bet it'll be a holiday one day.

quote:

What's an interesting place in town?

Skylight Diner

So, you know how there are cop bars, coffeeshops that all the hospital doctors frequent, etc? Yeah, primo secret for you here -Skylight's that for the superpowered community. It's neutral ground, sacred even, and you'll see guys in masks eating pancakes next to a table full of minions devouring burgers or chicken wings at nearly all hours of the day. The guy that owns it, who I only know of as Joe Skylight, was a big deal during the Golden Age. Not sure if he was a hero or a villain. Nowadays though he's just an amazing short order cook, and boy does he keep order. Don't mess with that guy, trust me on that.

Anyways, I've been a frequent patron since I was twelve. Like I said, I was a huge heroes nerd before I managed to become one - I was always here, trying to pick up tips and tricks from the pros themselves. Plus the food's amazing, and the coffee's even better somehow.

quote:

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Marida Dash, Freelance Blogger

Ohhhh, Marida of course! Listen, if you think I'm a heroics nerd, I'm nothing compared to her. She's basically a walking talking encyclopedia of everything metahuman or mutant or powered or whatever you want to call it; if anything you should be talking to her and not me. At least message her on her blog, she's super active, and I'm sure she'll get back to you - she's a total sweetheart.

Anyways, she helped me design my costume too. Said my earlier one was too elaborate and impractical, and you know what? She was right. I'm loving this stylish as hell witch hat and coat combo I've got going now, it's super distinctive and she's the one that made 'em for me. Just like Starlight's she's kind of a neutral institution in the business here in Halcyon City... but that said, she's totally one of my best friends. She's passed a tip or two my way before that've really made the difference, and she's linked to my videoblogs a couple times to help me generate views.

quote:

What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?
Well, a lot of things - I'm one of the main characters after all!

Firstly, I have dibs on Red symbolism. It's the best color, obviously, and I have tons of fire so yeah it wouldn't make any sense to give it to someone else now would it?! I thought so. Also, I'm taking care of fanservice too, my skirt's calculatedly short after all. Besides, no one else has the right combination of passion and beauty to manage it, while I've got both of those in spades.

Anyways, in the opening... hmmm, I can see it now. The first time you see my I'm snapping my fingers and then doing a thumbs up, turning towards the camera with a smile brilliant enough to actually sparkle, licks of flame dancing about me, also you probably get a peek down my top. There's also footage of me during the battle / powers footage during the second half of the opening, powerful flame magic striking down multiple enemies while I all but dance around the, hmm lets say ancient looking ruins, that's always good to get people invested in a show. My uniform flutters, my eyes glimmer, my magic burns... and then it cuts to someone infinitely less cool than me, as a sort of juxtaposition, so probably one of my teammates then.

Moves
Time for the Show
When you put on a flamboyant display of your powers, roll+Superior. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. Spend your hold 1-for-1 to name an NPC present and choose one:
● This person must meet me
● This person loves me
● This person volunteers help or information
● This person admires my team
● This person must have my help

On a miss, your display catches someone watching in exactly the wrong way; brace yourself.

Cold and Cruel Hot and Bothered
When you shut someone down, roll+Superior. On a 10+, choose one:
● Inflict a condition on them
● Make them lose Influence over you
● Take Influence over them

On a 7-9, choose one:
● You each inflict a condition on the other
● You both lose Influence over each other.

On a miss, they gain Influence over you.

The Audience
You are a celebrity in the city—although being a celebrity doesn’t always mean you’re liked. By default, your audience is a limited group of interested fans, and you speak to them through afteraction interviews and infrequent press conferences. Why does your audience love you? Mark all that apply.
You're charming, well-spoken, and smart
You’re a dangerous person, a femme fatale
You're stunning, unique, and beautiful

Choose two advantages
You have a dedicated internet following (follow me on Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, or at my blog!)
You have an endorsement from another hero (Wicked Elegance)

Choose two demands your audience makes on you
They require constant stimulation.
They require chemistry with your allies.

Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.

Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

Li Xiahou, the girl that never was

Nihao

uh

Hi. Yeah. Hello.

I'm Li. It's uh

Nice to meet you.

...

Oh? More about myself? Uh

Hobbies? Yeah. Kaku tried to teach me to cook.

It uh

Didn't work. My tongue isn't that good.

I like cleaning. It's easy and Kaku is very happy when I get everything done.

Um. I like it when I help people and they're happy.

I know being a hero is more complicated than chores

but, well

I'll make more people happy than just Kaku.

I'll feel really useful then.

--------------------------

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

Kaku Xiahou, the Death Cheater. "Affectionately" referred to as just "The Cheat" by her peers. An ancient hermit who has mastered the energies of the Dao to do extraordinary things, the most obvious of which is aging so gracefully over the centuries. Her career started when she faked her death to escape from her marriage, a self servicing action that would set the tone of her new life. To this day she maintains a mercenary attitude which rubs her allies the wrong way, even during her stints as a villain. Despite always having one foot out the door Kaku has been with the Super League the longest of all her memberships. As much as a headache she can make herself as an ally, her grating personality was tenfold when bringing her malice to bear as an enemy. While Kaku avoids her own headaches by playing with the right team, namely an ability to move freely. Despite her hermetic lifestyle Kaku doesn't like the enforced solitude of being on the lamb. Company is another indulgence to partake in as the mood strikes her.

Li is a Jiangshi animated by Kakuto "add some life" to the remote outposts she is assigned to for long periods of time. The treacherous regions that are often home to secret lairs suit Kaku just fine as a stomping grounds. Waiting for the base to be sniffed out to begin her months long harassment campaigns proves tedious however and Li is the latest thing Kaku came up with to fill her time. The story of just exactly who's body Kaku decided to deny a proper burial changes each time. The more astute heroes posit that Li is a composite of multiple bodies. Technically telling the truth is Kaku's favorite game. Some even theorize she did this because a being without a proper soul would be more pliable, but no one has aired that idea. Though she still smothers Li with affection (while still happily uses the corpse as a shield), Kaku has bored of having Li around all the time and decided grooming her into a proper member would be new fun diversion.

What's an interesting place in town?

Oh. Hmm

I like...

The zoo. Yeah. I like the zoo.

Animals are interesting. Some of them don't like me. But some others like me a lot.

I like all of them. It is fun to see so many different kind of things in the same place. It is so

Lively. Yeah. All the kids are having so much fun. It's uh

Infectious.

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Yue Zhang is my friend.

She helps her mother with a restaurant. Which is nice.

She likes to talk about our Chinese heritage.

I don't know anything about China. Kaku never talked about it.

It's really interesting. And Yue thinks I'm really interesting.

She said knowing I'm possible has her following the ways of the Dao.

Her mother doesn't want her talking to Kaku though.

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

Li gets her head knocked off by something, and is mildly confused why everyone is freaking out.

Not from around here: When you act clueless, goofy or confused to get out of a sticky mundane situation, roll+Freak. On a hit, you create an opportunity, a distraction, or a plausible excuse. On a 7-9, in addition, you feel all the weight of playing the clown, and of the people staring at you. The GM will shift one of your labels up, and one down.

Meet Your Maker: When you approach your creator or caretakers with a problem, tell them what obstacle you face or what you need to achieve, and they will offer you something you need. The GM chooses one:
• secret information
• a way to temporarily boost or expand
your powers
• access to instruments, weapons or
resources
• Official and explicit backing.
If you accept their help, they will rewrite one of your lessons for you.

Blank Slate: I Am Kaku's beloved Li, who is her helpful Jiangshi. Always be loyal and dutiful

When you embody one of your lessons, shift 1 label up and 1 label down, your choice. If you
cause misunderstanding, collateral damage or unintended consequences, mark potential.
When you reject one of your lessons, reject its influence as if it were an NPC. If you choose to
have it lose Influence over you, erase that lesson and write a new one.

Regeneration: When you’re taken out, you can trigger an emergency regeneration process. If you do, your body undergoes an unpredictable transformation, and in mere moments, you’re back on your feet and ready to fight. Clear three conditions, and choose three from the list below:
Change your gender identity or presentation
Change your physical appearance
Forget all your lessons
Lose an important memory of a teammate; they lose Influence over you
Swap an ability with another one from the Newborn playbook

When our team first came together…
They found you, and you saw the outside world for the first time and helped in the fight.
Where and how did they find you? Which one of them gave you your first nickname?

Relationships

Funny Little Guy Aficionado.

Keiichi/Nanako Nijimura
Entropy
The Janus

Where do we even begin, down this strange and twisted road? How do I start the story that uprooted who I was, that took my identity and pulled it in two directions- not the hero thing. That's most of us, really, most heroes have people that don't know they do stuff, or family that worries about them, secrets they keep. Not those secrets. Not that story.

Violence isn't just pain. It isn't just hurting or killing someone, though those are prominent forms of it. Violence is the reduction of choice, making it impossible to take certain actions. The refusal to allow someone else agency, to let them make their own decisions. Locking off ideas, locking off potentialities.

In a way, that sort of violence defines my life. My choices have been limited. Often by people who mean well, people close to me. Sometimes it's not them, but society at large, unwilling to accept. These days, it's almost harder than ever. People know more about my kind of choices, but... mmn.

Let's stop beating around the bush here.

I was born Keiichi Nijimura, but that isn't who I am. My name isn't Keiichi Nijimura, not anymore. I was born a boy, and I still live that life. I can't deviate from it, not really. My parents want their beautiful, only son. They wouldn't understand my issues- they haven't really been... good about LGBT stuff in the past. And so I suffer through it. I didn't even realize what was going on until I was... mmn, 16, 17? I'd lived my life hurting, lived my life pulsing and wanting with no direction for where to go. I guess it wasn't really an all at once epiphany, really. I think while those make for good stories, they're not what most people get. Just... as culture changed, and people became more open, niche sites and blogging websites talked about these things more openly, and people let their experiences out into the world, I could... start to understand. Start to conceptualize the idea within me, that I could be, might be... you know. Female. It took me a long time to even be able to accept it, to be able to honestly consider that that might be me- the idea was tantalyzing, but so far away, impossible, inactionable, and I couldn't accept it. My family never taught me that you could be something other than what you.. were.

I guess that's another form of violence- an idea beat into me so much that I couldn't accept another.

So I'd learned who I was supposed to be, one day- learned about the options, the hobbies, the identity and gender locked off to me by society, by my birth body, by my family, but that locking away didn't change. I couldn't... do any of that. Not without risking my life toppling down around me. It made my depression worse, if anything. Anyways, I'm sure you're wondering about how this all ties into being a hero, right?

So I've had powers for a long time. Those, oddly, were never really a big deal in my family. They got worried about all the other stuff- how I looked, how other people would see me, all that junk, normal, mundane concerns, but my powers were basically an afterthought to them. They're... kind of hard to explain, but they're mostly based around the absorption and redirection of energy- take in force, expel force, take in heat, expel heat, nullifying it on the way in and then re-instating it on the way out. It's pretty cool, if you ask me. there's some other stuff too- I'm fast, strong, I can twist and turn and get anywhere you need me- but that's the gist of it, really.

So of course, like a lot of people, I decided to become a hero. I guess... mmn, a lot of people get into it to protect people, and there's that. To have fun, and it can be sometimes. To fight bad guys- well, I find a lot of them aren't so bad, personally. I guess my big reason is...well. As a hero, I can be me. Costume on. Change out my glasses, put on a wig, and I'm... there. I'm comfortable, and I don't have to live some double mundane life- my double life is much simpler, in a way. I can be who I want to be around heroes, I can present, I can... mmn. If I'm going to live a secret life anyways, may as well, right? Sure I can't be out to the public. I can't have people understand my... narrative. I don't get to live my normal life as female either. And presenting as a woman has it's own challenges, it's own set of social obligations and barriers and violence to overcome. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

I tried it mundanely a few times- putting on the clothes, learning to... you know, dress myself, to make myself look how I should, to create my form from nothingness, in a sense. Not literally, I'm not a werid shapeshifter. I went out into town- alone, on quiet days, just walking. Interacting, being.

There's other reasons I'm worried about my identity, too. Other forms of violence. Even among people that accept that you can... be a woman, if you weren't before, they might not always accept other identities, and a lot of the time I feel like I lie somewhere more in the middle- I carry aspects of my identity as a guy too, and some of them I still like. There are some aspects of myself intertwined into my being, that I don't see as contradicting with my desires, but other people do.

Eventually, after a few odd encounters, heroic fights, dealings with vilains, all that jazz, I attracted the attention of the league. I was... initially pretty scared about joining. They'd find out- they have to, with all the screenings and poo poo they do, not to mention it would just be another thing tying my identites together, another place, another concrete detail.

Panacea
Panacea, the medical examiner for the league, and a pretty decent hero in her own right, helped me out. She... had to find out, of course. She does all the testing, she does everything. She helped me learn the extents of my powers , and she helped me cover up my identity to the league at large. She let me vent to her, she didn't tell any of her higher ups, her teammembers- a patient's right to privacy, she said. ... She's the only person I know in the real life that I've told. A few people on the internet know I'm trans, but they sure don't know I'm a superhero. She's been someone I can fall back on, someone I can trust , someone...

Someone who respects me, for the person I am, not the person they think I am.

She was the one who sponsored my joining this team, too- put me on this specific group of heroes. I wonder what her reasoning was? She's been tight lipped about it, but... mmn. I still wonder. Especially with Doctor Aetherium getting on the team's rear end about it- he's one of the other League heroes, an old Silver Age fuckface. Ever since we worked together on that small mission, and I found out just what kinda guy he was- a lovely homophobe, cynical, broken, and willing to hurt anyone in his way to achieve his victory over villainy, and blasted him a new one for it afterwards- well, we haven't seen eye to eye, and he's been leveraging his influence in the league ever after to make sure I don't get anywhere. Here's a picture.

Besides all that, I heard you wanted me to tell you a few other things?

Did you know that if you walk through the West Park, under the streetlights, at night, just right, following the worn steps in the sidewalk, you can actually step off that sidewalk to anywhere else in the city? It's not very well known, and I discovered it by accident. Most people think it's an urban legend, but it's true- and a major security flaw for a lot of the businesses of the city.

Shannon Lancaster, The City Mayor
Shannon Lancaster. I don't like her much. She's the mayor of the town, running on a strict super-integration program, and heavily pushed for legislation around powers, superhero registration, and the like. ... Personally, I understand where she's coming from, but I can't let her stringent programs fall down on me. I can't risk my life falling apart because I'm in some registry, or need to inform my parents, or what have you- the league's notes are hands off enough that I can avoid any of that for now, but if things get worse...

quote:

What are you doing in the anime intro?
I do a lot of brooding- there's a shot with my two identities, looking into a mirror as my male self and seeing my idealized reflection in the mirror, a series of action shots using my powers, and a teary eyed shot as I stare at several indistinct people, probably family members, but it's intentionally obscured.

Once per session, you can affirm either your heroic or secret identity to switch your Mundane with your mask’s Label. When you reveal your secret identity to someone who didn’t know it already, mark potential.

Dangerous WebJust According to Keikaku (TN: Keikaku means plan)

When you reveal a trap you’ve left for someone using your powers, roll + your mask’s Label. On a hit, your opponent trips into it, and you get an opening or opportunity against them. On a 10+, take +1 forward to pursuing it. On a miss, the trap inadvertently leads to a dangerous escalation.

I’ll Save You

You’re willing to pay high costs to keep your loved ones safe. Reveal your secret identity to someone watching or mark a condition to defend a loved one as if you rolled a 12+.

Moment of Truth

The mask is a lie, and some piece of you has always known that. Doesn’t matter if others can see it. You’re the one that can do the impossible. Mask off. Costume on. And you’re going to save the drat day. Of course, you better hope nobody nasty is watching…

The pen scratched against the paper softly. It was the only sound in the room apart from the dull flickering of the candle nearby. It's dim light served well enough to light the page, and the words written upon it by a serious looking boy.

"They say that fate is bound to the stars, that it cannot be avoided. That no matter how hard you try to defy it or outrun it, it'll always catch up to you. Our story begins over twenty seven centuries ago. Two young lovers, found that they had been chosen by destiny to be bonded together. That their souls would be together forever. Nether could have expected the darkness that would look upon their bond with hatred and envy."

"So.... whatcha writing there?" came the voice of a redheaded girl, eye bright eyes peaking over the edge of the desk from below. The boy caught her eyes, and couldn't help but smile.

"Well, nothing, it's not finished yet." He replied, moving a blank piece of paper to cover the writing so far.

"I'll say it's not finished. You've hardly begun. Two lines on a single page! Is it-? Is it a love story?" She asked eyes sparkling with excitement. He chuckled.

"No, it's... more of a legend really. A myth. A story that I once heard. About a Dragon and a Phoenix. It had something to do with the Emperor and Empress of ancient China I think, but I can't completely recall. But I'll just make something up to make it fit." He said. Gesturing with his pen, as though composing music. Rene got out from behind the table and crossed round to him.

"Or, you could put down the pen, and we do something.... else....?" She said suggestively. Alastar took in the shape of her face, the almost permanent smile on her lips, the bright blue eyes that watched him playfully, the hourglass of her waste, the curve of her legs. Her wondrous form. She leaned in close, her nose almost touching his. "Hi..." he said, a grin breaking out on his face.

"...Hi" she whispered back. Her cheeks flushing in a charming attempt to match her hair colour. Their eyes begin to close, leaning in closer, and closer, lips parted, trembling, yearning.

The mobile phone went of, breaking the moment. The two of them jumped, and then laughed sheepishly.

"Aw man! That's not fair!" Rene groaned. Her partner chuckled and lifted himself out of the seat, plucking phone up and answering it. With his back turned the girl slowly lifted the paper to see what he'd been writing. Without looking he pointed back at her.

"Ah ah ah! No peeking!" Rene stuck her tongue out, but lowered the page anyway. Alastar would read it to her when he was done, he always did. It would probably be just as cheesy and overwrought as everything else he wrote. "-and my writing in nether cheesy or overwrought! Oh! Yes, sorry, hello? The museum? You're sure? Alright, on my way." He hung up. "Break in at the Natural History Museum. Not sure what they're after, but probably got something to do with the new exhibit. It usually does."

"Well, they do kinda have a thing about actually using real artifacts and stuff. Magical and all. So it's not exactly unexpected, you know?" Rene said, pulling a white and blue body suit out of the wardrobe. "You go on ahead, I'll catch up!"

"Really? You've not got anything else to wear?" Alastar said, raising his eyebrow.

"Hey! I paid good money for this little number, so I'm gonna get some use out of it, you know? Besides, you try putting on one of these things quickly."

"Oh no, I'm perfectly happy to sit here and watch you demonstrate." He said, leaning against the window frame.

"Don't you have somewhere to be, hero?" She laughed, throwing her tee-shirt at him. Rene looked down to start taking off her shorts. When she glanced back up Alastar grabbed her and kissed her. She melted against him, eyes shut, lost in the sensation. Her hands clutched at him, she started panting, she never wanted it to end, him and the way he made her feel! Their lips parted and she stood there trembling, eyes shut fast, waiting, wanting, needing more. Nothing happened, and she cracked her eyes open slowly. Alastar was stood by the window again, open this time. He gave that mock two finger salute he always did and fired himself out the window. A force field popping into existence at his feet like a launch pad.

It took her a few moments of hard panting breaths before she realised what had just happened. "Y-You bastard...!" Rene yelled after him with a laugh, hurriedly putting on her suit. Falling over repeatedly. She wasn't wrong, these body suits were not designed for fast entry. But it felt incredible, and made her look amazingly hot. Which is very important for a hero, don't ya know. Suited and booted she looked back at the writing desk and blew out the candle. Her hand hovering over the page...

Nah, it can wait.

She stepped left and through a portal, she'd had lots of practise it was almost like a flash step. She was out and away, falling down the side of the building! The pavement below rushing up to meet her. She cast her mind out to Him, feeling him, he'd made it pretty far, but she was never truly that far behind. Another portal opened below her and she emerged spinning through the air! Oh god! The feeling! This incredible feeling! She glanced down to where her love stood. He'd already knocked out one of the gang who'd broken in. Bam, portal right out next to him, landing softly on the ground. Momentum controlling portals were awesome. She grinned at him, but Alastar had put on his 'serious face'. Oooh! Scary!

Mental images flashed between them, silent and fast. They nodded in agreement. He ran for the front door, she ported in to the upper levels, a better vantage point to see what they were dealing with. Six of them, basic close range armaments. Tools mostly, probably what they'd used to break in. They were far from pro's. But all the same...

Below her the thieves were attempting to break open some kind of case. Rene couldn't see exactly what it was, but it did not look good. They looked up as they heard a roar that grew and grew in volume. Then Alastar burst out of nowhere. Straight cross into one of the thieves. The man got flung clear across the room. The Force field around Alastar's hands and feet added a lot of strength with it's kinetic re directive properties. The other five drew their tools and joined the battle. The first was flung high into the air by another force field under his feet. Rene popped a portal into his path before he hit the ceiling. The other end opened up on the ground in front of her. The thief popped up like a wackamole, and she sucker punched him. Knocking him out cold. Then let him fall back through, dropping him on his unfortunate ally.

Below, her partner kicked his opponent back bounced him off a field and clotheslined him. The resulting back flip from the unconscious crook drew a polite clap from the girl. Alastar blocked the first swing of the third, and encased the crowbar. The thug tried in vain to pull it out, while the other two charged him. Alastar fell back. Sidestepped a swing and replied with a devastating volley of punches and kicks! The man was out by the second blow, but Alastar wanted to be sure. Another swung for his back, only to have a portal open in front of him and to smack himself in the head. Four down, one left! The thug drew a knife, and then his body became metal! He had powers! He lunged, and Alastar deflected and countered! The two were a whur of fists and feet! Alastar only narrowly avoided a slice at his face, Rene had had enough! She sent a thought, it was time to end it! She dropped a portal over the guys head. Bringing it to her level, where she slammed a pot over it. Now blinded, Alastar shoved him back. The metal man simply smashed the pot, what were these two playing at? He only just got to see Alastar launching himself at him before the blow connected. Alastar started bouncing off of his forcefields faster and faster! Striking again and again! The Villein was off balance, and with a leg sweep he was sent tumbling backwards through another portal, he fell shortly through the air, before he was caught by Alastar who spun him thought the air and smashed him into the ground with enough force to make a crater!

Groggily the goon began to climb to his feet, until a single large stone dropped from one last portal onto his head. With a definitive 'thonk' noise, the goon collapsed to the floor, his metal skin fading to normal. Okay the whole place was a mess. But that was bloody awesome! Rene jumped into Alastars arms, and he span her once, before bringing her feet to rest on the ground. Their eyes locked together, lost in the moment.

"WELL, WELL, WELL!" came a threatening echo, ruining the moment. Again.

"Ohh, the mastermind of the plan has arrived!" She hopped excitedly grabbing at her partner's arm.

"I can't wait to hear the dramatic speech to go along with this. What's the betting it's going to be horrifically convoluted?" He whispered back.

Above them the balcony filled with fog and smoke crackling with static lightning. The girl coo'd, impressed. With a dramatic swerl a cloaked figure steps through. Laughing.

"If it isn't the bumbling duo! Aegis and Key! Well, you're not going to stop me this time! For now you shall face the unlimited mystical power of the SILVER SKULL! And once I get my hands on the Necklace of Ha'ta'koosh'sha none shall be able to stand before me! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!"

"Can I hit him yet?" Alastar whispered to her.

"Dude, no, it's adorable!" Rene replied, thinks about it, then continues "Ten more seconds. Then you can hit him."

"What are you two whispering about! DON'T IGNORE ME!" The villein screamed, clearly he had a couple of issues. But rather than seeking psychiatric help, he started throwing bolts of magical lightning. The pair split, each going in a different direction.

"Minions! NOW! ASSEMBLE AT YOUR MASTERS ORDERS!!" The screechy voice (artificially amplified by his mask) was a little annoying, but certainly had the desired effect, as more bad guys appeared all along the balconies, there looked to be about... forty of them? "My legion of Golems will crush you! Then you'll never look down on me ever again!"

"Golums? They're not alive?" Rene asked, curious.

"No! They're mindless slaves, bound to my will!! AHAHAHAHA!"

"Great, now I don't need to hold back! Hey! Key! You ready for this!" Alastar grinned, his force fields bursting to life around his limbs.

"Oh gently caress yes!" She grinned "But I'm deciding what we do when we get back!!"

The two heroes launched themselves at their opponents with a battle cry! A fight that would turn out to be just another night in Halcyon city!

- - -

The story of Alastar and Rene started quite some time ago. Multiple centuries, in point of fact. As they understand it, their souls were brought together by fate. Star crossed lovers throughout the ages. Destined to find each other each time they were reincarnated. Until eventually the two of them gained the enmity of a dangerous creature.

A demon known as Sable.

Seeing their grand destiny, Sable grew angry at their happiness, and cursed their souls. Enacting a dark ritual, sacrificing them each in turn. Forcing them to watch as their love died. It had planned to steal away and barter their souls for power. But something stopped it. When they awoke again, they found themselves trapped in the same body. The body of Alastar. They remembered nothing of their past. But knew they were two separate beings. They wandered for some time, uncertain and unsure. Driven out from town after town. Claims of witchcraft and madness hounded their steps.

Each time they would reincarnate they would still be trapped together. Fate became unkind, and though they never doubted one another, those around them who could not understood treated them terribly. Lifetimes passed, and eventually Alastar collapsed in an old temple. There they were approached by band of three siblings and their companion, mages by the name of Solina, Exitaph, Jace and Patrick.

Alastar attempted to defend themselves, fearful, but the mages begged them peace. They told them of their conditions, and the great evil that had been committed against them. Alastar begged for help, all he knew was that he must free the voice of the girl within his head, protect her, and right this wrong. Solina took pity on the broken man, and asked him to make a pact. She would give them the power to defend themselves, and free the girl into her own body. But they would need to lend their aid when it was asked for.

Seeing no other option, Alastar agreed. Solina wove a body for the girl. Bringing life anew. For the first time in lifetimes, the reborn girl, Rene, Breathed. Touched. Saw! Solina granted them gifts. To Alastar she gave a shield, that he might defend all he holds dear, and to Rene she gave the gift of movement, that she might explore the world for herself. Then she bestowed upon them new names. Titles which they would ware throughout the ages to follow. March - The Aegis, and May - The Key. Two of twelve beings that have agreed to work together.

Now awake in modern times, the two have brought their heroesm into the light. Working as Key and Aegis. A crime fighting duo ready and willing to face the worst Halcyon has to offer. In their off time, the two are simply boyfriend and girlfriend. Soulmates (literally). The kind of cute couple who can finish each others thoughts. Though they're students, and studying different subjects. they're never far apart from one another.

Alastar is a too often brooding and serious boy, far too academic for his own good. His slim pale frame speaks of too little exercise and too much time in front of a computer. He's a passion for writing, though as Rene would tell you. It's dreadfully overwrought. He's not the most socially outgoing person ever, and his sense of humour can catch people a little of guard. However he's honest and loyal. Some would say he's a bit emotionally mute, but he would say he's simply reserved. He has a tendency to be a little mistrustful and second guess a lot of things. Though Rene is trying to break him out of that habit. Alastar can be a little commanding, taking the lead and making descisions for the pair of them, a hold over of the days they were trapped together. He's trying to give her more freedom and let her make her own choices, but it's a very difficult learning curve for him.

Rene on the other hand, is outgoing and a friendly trusting person. Too trusting. She makes friends easily, but can quickly find herself trying to shoulder their emotional burdens. She also has a terrible habit of getting guilty about things which weren't her fault. She is also, far, far more emotional then Alastar. Which can be seen as both a good and a bad thing. She loves music, and has a fondness for sitting in the window playing her guitar. Rene is a little bit of a flirt (okay, she's a massive flirt). But Alastar is fine with her exploring her interests because he knows she'll always come back to him. Besides, it's her body, and it's her choice what she does with it. Their soul bond has lasted for centres and centuries, and having something of an open relationship is not going to end it. Despite Alastar's urging, Rene is terrible at making decisions, and can often get paralysed into indecision. This happens rarely on the battlefield, but civilian life seems to be it's own battlefield, and one that can leave the young lady very stressed.

Having been together so long, nether of them can even think about not being with one another, or more accurately not being able to feel one another. Their mental link is such a huge part of their lives that were it ever cut or broken they could both suffer some serious mental breakdown. Even were it not for the curse by Sable, the two of them kept finding each other throughout the eons, fate, it seems has some plan in mind for the two of them. Even without their powers, the red ribbons of love would always bring them together. Admittedly, this is not always seen as a good thing. Rene has made a friend, called Mary. She loves the girl like a sister, and tries constantly to get her in trouble and to get her to think for herself. She's worried that Alastar is a bit too controlling, and does not see what Rene sees in him. She's perfectly pleasant to him, but she's definitely Rene's friend, and Alastar's acquaintance.

It wasn't long before Aegis and Key caught the attention of the Super League, and with an invitation beckoning to join the new team, it seems that fate shall take yet another twist on this tail yet.

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

Three weeks had passed since they'd been approached by the League, now they were finally about to meet the hero who'd decided to sponsor them. It was a hero known for their mysteriousness. They rarely appeared in public, when they did it was only ever briefly. But even so, they were reputed for their perceptive and detective abilities, so when someone like that says they want to meet. You go and meet them. The meet spot was an old unused overflow section of the sewers. The lighting was terrible, murky and dim.

Aegis and Key crept forward slowly, straining to hear. This could still be an ambush, and it paid to be prepared! Footsteps reached their ears, and a suited man stepped out into the light. Well, man was a strech. Before them stood Mr Galaxy.

Rumour had it that he was the personification of the universe itself. He took a back seat mostly, but his power was known to be huge! Galactic even! Even so, this was not the hero they'd come to see. Even hidden as they were in the shadows the star man looked dead at them.

"Well... no point in hiding now." Aegis grumbled, stepping out. Mr Galaxy said nothing. Pretty much as expected. He never was one for banter. Key followed quickly behind, partly hiding behind Aegis. After what felt like an eternity in the most one sided staring contest Mr Galaxy nodded, and from behind him stepped two figures. The first was the person who'd invited them.

Ark.

Ark was an alien repository of knowledge, ancient and all knowing. Because of that they were constantly under threat. Who knows the damage that could result in that knowledge falling into the wrong hands? Now Mr Galaxy being here made sense. He was on body guard duty. Ark rarely left their observatory locked away behind seven multi-dimensional barriers. Each one more feandishly complicated then the last.

"The pieces are falling into place. The crossed have returned to us. Ark flickered as it spoke. The emphasis was a little bizarre, but it was otherwise understandable. Rene frowned, confused.

"Who've returned to you?" She asked.

"You two have." Another voice, high, feminine, and somehow familiar. "And not a moment too soon. You're needed." The figure stepped out of the shadows. Blond tresses somehow seemed to glow in the dim light. She seemed about their age, but there was something in her eyes, as though they'd seen a lot more then they should have.

She looked out of place next too the two space born heroes. But there was something intangibly familiar about her...

"Look, I'm going to need to call on that favour again, I know it's been a while, but it's imperative." Favour? What favour? Why was she acting like she knew them? "I know this is a bit out of nowhere, but we've got a job and we need you two on it. They're forming a new team, young heroes. They're going to need your help, no, they're going to be getting your help. Because otherwise they're going to fail. So I'm calling on you to honour the oath-"

"Wait! Wait! Stop!" Aegis said, a little louder then he'd mean to. "I'm sorry sirs, would you mind terribly if I had a word with your young friend there. Privately?" The two legiends glanced at one another, then at the girl, who smiled. She stepped forwards, and Aegis lead her a few steps down the tunnel out of sight. The moment they rounded the corner, he grabbed her and slammed her into the wall.

"What the gently caress Solina." Aegis growled. She winced, and managed a smile.

"Nice to see you too, Alastar."

"Oh no, you don't get to disappear off the face of the planet for nine lifetimes, only to show up now like this! Where did you go? What's with the new body? WHERE DID YOU GO?!" He hissed. Furious.

"I had some errands to run."

"Errands?"

"Keeping time and space together and safe from the forces beyond the vale who're even as we speak trying to open a hole through which they can spread their dark powers." She said it so matter-a-factly. "Oh, and getting a pint of milk. You know, the usual. Now would you let me go?" Aegis gritted his teeth. But he did let her go. She dusted himself off, and patted him on the shoulder. "Sorry, but I really wasn't in a position to keep sending letters."

"We thought you'd abandoned us...!"

"Well, I hadn't so stop being silly and lets get back to the others, please?" She turned smartly and strolled back into the room, that was Solina the guardian of time for you. It was hard to break that work-a-holic exterior. Aegis re-entered the room in time to see Solina freeze in shock as Rene threw her arms around her in a big hug. Solina squeaked in surprise, but then after a moment returned the hug warmly. Hard... but not impossible.

"All right, all right, I missed you too." Solina said, stroking Key's hair fondly. "Now, come on to business. There's a team forming. Young heroes. You're going to be part of it."

"Another one of your visions?" Key asked, eyes wide with wonder. She finally let to of Solina, who coughed awkwardly and realigned her hood. Key giggled. She'd always had the singular ability to get under Solina's skin.

"Yes, and the culmination of many lifetimes of hard work and strife. I'm incredibly proud of both of you. But now comes the real challenge. Sable is returning. We don't know for what purpose, or why. But everything I've foreseen has lead up to this. But this battle you must face without me."

"What about Jace? Or Exitaph? Or Whistle? Aren't we getting any support from the Months?" Rene asked alarmed.

"I'm sorry, Key, we cannot interfere directly. It's risky enough me being here right now like this. I will try to lend you what aid I can. But it will be limited. You're the only two of the Calender who can operate freely on this world. Everyone else is too bound by the rules of crossing. Even I am not immune."

"Great, so we're going up against the thing that killed us. Anything else?" Aegis asked sarcastically. He was finding their location extremely appropriate for this lovely news.

"Have faith, Aegis, you will not be alone." Ark handed over a few files. Pictures of supers attached to the front. "They will be your allies, work with them, help them, and they will help you."

Key took Aegis's hand and pulled him into her. They looked eyes, thought flew between them like bullets. Debating, discussing, joking, laughing, loving. After a few seconds they looked back. "Okay." Key said "We'll do it." Solina smiled. "But on one condition." Solina's eyebrows raised. "You tell us all about your new boyfriend."

Solina flushed, stumbling over her words. Rene smiled. "You're wearing that perfume! The one you always wear when you're trying to get someone's attention, you know?" She giggled. "Is it Markus? I bet it's Markus!"

"How do you do that?" Solina asked weakly. Aegis laughed. They would stay and talk for a while. Of past lives lived and their current ones. Eventually the two groups parted ways. Trepidation and worry hanging heavy in their hearts. But as they climbed up to the surface again the new sun was rising. A beautiful orange glow that filled them with hope. Solina had given them a chance. To wright the wrongs of old. And maybe put to rest this secret war, they'd been fighting once and for all.

What's an interesting place in town?

"Ohhh! Let's go to the art park! They've got a huge exhibition on nature art! It's just opened today!" Rene called excitedly from where she was playing with her laptop on the sofa. Alastar poked his head out of the bathroom, his hair dripping from the shower. Rene tried very hard not to picture what he looked like behind the wall. Alastar grinned.

"Well, if you're so curious, you can come over here and take a look."

"Will I keep my clothes on if I do?" Rene asked innocently, biting her lip.

"You'll find out." Was all Alastar would say. Rene fanned herself, blushing. "Anyway, what did you say?"

"Huh?" Rene snapped out of her little daydream. "Oh! The Art Park! Today! You and me! Art! Fun! Ice cream!"

"Miss Marie, are you asking me out on a date?" Alastar said, flirtatiously.

"...what would you say, if I said yes?" Rene gave him her best flutter of her eyelashes. Alastar walked across the room, wrapped in a towel, trailing water, a huge grin on his face. He stopped and leaned down right next to her. His muscles taught and shining in the water dripping off of him.

"I would date the gently caress out of you." He whispered into her ear. Rene sighed.

"You always know the right things to say...!" She murmured happily.

"And then afterwards, I'll take you for a meal, and then drinks and dancing."

"...Oh god I love you...!" was all she could say.

The 'ark park', or as it was actually known The Halcyon Public Sculpture and Exhibition Park. Was a charming park on the outskirts of Halcyon. A popular spot for school trips, romantic walks, and just being their in general. It linked onto a massive national park which contained a

forest that always seemed to have the perfect lighting, and...

Waterfalls and a beautiful lake. Rene and Alastar had spent hours paddling and cooling off it their crystal clear waters. There were some wonderful hiking trails, and all manner of wildlife to see. For anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it was the perfect place. It's latest showing was focused entirely on art made from nature and natural things. The pair of them walked the trails, Rene taking photos of the pieces that really caught her eye. In between moments of holding hands, kisses, sweet whispered nothings.

The exhibitions rotated around every so often, putting on display all manner of styles and themes. Some were even made by some of the hero's of the city. To help promote the arts and culture. Rene could never get bored of this place. Okay, admittedly some of the surrounding woods were the territories of nature based heroes and maybeee a couple bad guys. But they kept to themselves, and left the park and it's visitors alone.

The pair left the park, glowing happily as they discussed their favourite pieces. Rene kept her camera close. She would print out the pictures and stick them on her wall. Each a happy and important memory, another reason to protect this world. They made it home and spent a few hours resting. The evening ahead promised more fun, loud music and lots of dancing, and once they were done it would be patrol time. But until then, the couple relaxed, spending their night off together, in loving arms.

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Jessica Barron, a charming if a little shy student in Rene's class. She's the one who got Rene into photography, and also made her explore bisexuality. Which Rene is still feeling pretty blown away about. Jess understands that Rene won't ever truly be hers. Alastar is far too important to Rene to be able to split them. But that doesn't stop her trying to lure Rene away when she can. She's fun, quirky, and very normal in a way that Rene really needs sometimes. She's also a big fan of nightclubs. She has no idea Rene is a hero and Rene intends to keep it that way. She's close friends with Mary, and definitely agrees that Rene needs to start making more decisions for herself. Especially if that means she gets a little bit more time with her.

Besides that Jess, is a little fish in a big city. Having grown up in a small agricultural town, at her Father's recommendation. She can often become a little overwhelmed by events around her. When she does she likes to drink sweet tea and play the violin. Which she's currently teaching to Rene. Part of the reason that she's so interesting, is who her father is.

Maximilian Barron. A property magnate who's current interests lie in revitalising some of the more downtrodden areas of Halcyon. His company is very rich, and very powerful, if there's some kind of construction project going through in Halcyon, he's got his hand in it.

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

Sitting in the open window looking out over the city as the moon starts to rise above the rooftops. Cut suddenly two the two of them standing in a graveyard filled with hundreds of memorials, red ribbons linking them arm to arm, As the sun begins to rise behind them, whiting out the scene they stand in, they look up and open their eyes suddenly. Fast cut shot to them falling from the sun down through the sky, as though dropping into battle. The music plays hard as the camera cuts frenetically to them glancing and grinning at each other. Aegis hero dropping into battle, deflecting a number of opponents blows and then punching one guy flying. The camera follows the goons flight, until Key flashes out of a portal dashing forwards, rapidly and skillfully evading a number of enemies as Aegis joins her. The pair rush to a staircase leading up to Solina and Sable clashing together. The pair launch themselves into the flight as the camera cuts away to other characters.

Why do you care about the team?

Solina, someone who they trust implicitly, told them they'd be important. As members of the Calender, the twelve brought together to protect the world by Solina, they've a sworn duty to protect them, and maybe fulfil there destiny that fast approaches.

Alastar's Look: Man, White, Brooding face, Casual clothing, Subtle costume
Rene's Looks: Woman, White, curious face, Casual clothing, Flashy costume

Abilities:

Rene: Portal Creation
Alastar: Forcefield Control

Labels:

Freak +1
Danger +1
Savior -1
Superior +2
Mundane +0

Moves

Alpha (Rene):

Good twin: When you comfort or support someone by praising their moral activities, roll +Superior instead of +Mundane

Beta (Alistar):

The quiet one: When you direct attention towards someone else to go unnoticed, roll +Mundane. On a 10+ you’re good and they don't feel any heat for it. On a 7-9 choose one:
● Someone is still watching you
● You leave evidence behind
● They draw unwanted heat

On a miss, the attention you threw onto the other person puts them into a dangerous position.

How? By what?

Who do you think might be one of those mages, reborn? Why?

"Just read the story of who's sponsoring us... I'd be less mad, if this wasn't how Solina operated all the time. I don't really know if she's reborn or if she's just time jumping. What I do know is she's a massive pain in the neck." Alastar said.

"Nah! She's sweet as a button! Plus, have you seen her with Markus, they are SO CUTE!!!" Rene interjected.

Aegis, when was the last time Key ordered you around? Did you mind?

"I.... No, I don't mind her making up her own mind for once. There was this one time that she tried to arrange a birthday party. She'd spent a whole month, planning this whole big day. I had wanted to spend the day at home. But she insisted. So we set out, and then everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We left our wallets at home, so we had to wash up at the restaurant. Which made us late to the play we were going to see, while trying to find something else to do, Rene's necklace broke, and I jumped into a ditch to find it, getting totally soaked in mud. Which then mean that we got refused entry to the club because I looked like a bum. We spent three hours walking home. Rene looked like she was going to burst into tears. She'd even prepared the bed so it was covered in rose petals and had bought this really cute bodice corset lingere thing. By the time we got in we were both exhausted and not really in the mood. So I crashed out on the sofa. She was pretty much inconsolable for three days. So no, I don't mind her making up her own mind, it's just... she can take it really hard when it goes wrong, and I like to protect her from that."

Key, what happened recently that makes you think your grand destiny might be coming to a head?

"Well Solina said so... and honestly, that scares me... I don't want to get sacrificed again. Or whatever else that thing can think up. I know Aegis said he'd protect me, but I don't want to see him hurt ether! I just... I don't know what to do... I'm feeling totally helpless...!"

Do you ever miss being in the same body? Why or why not?

"I miss being able to keep track of her, and she didn't get PMS every month, that was nice. But no, I wouldn't trade her freedom for anything. Look at her! Look at how she smiles! How could I ever regret seeing that!"

"The piece and quiet was nice in there. It was always warm. I hated not being able to protect Alastar whenever people tried to hurt him. It was like being locked in a cage while they beat up your love in front of you, it was agonising!"

"It was litrally like that sometimes." Alastar pointed out.

"Yeah! And that's why it sucked! Besides, Solina gave us a second chance! Lots of them, like lifetimes and lifetimes worth! I can't turn my back on that."

just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

"Oh yeah we do. Students at the collage, we've got a real life and everything! I've got a boyfriend, who loves me, and who (keep this on the downlow) has the hottest rear end!" Rene says giggling and blushing at the thought.

"I heard that thought!" Alastar's voice comes from somewhere in the background.

"The hottest rear end!" Rene whispers, and smiles.

How did you find each other this time? How was it different from the other times?

"Oh my god! It was so romantic!" Rene sighed at the memory, hands crossed over her heart. "So, before we meet, we don't remember anything about the past. It's like... we trigger each other, unlock the powers and all the past lives. So, I'd been getting random flashes of thoughts over the past few months. Like overheard whispers? Couldn't work out where they were coming from. I'd always felt like I was missing something. Like there was a hole inside of me just waiting to be filled. A few failed relationships later I was still no closer to happiness. I was working shifts in this cafe. You know the type. Uniform with a really short skirt. Lots of very seedy customers. Couple of the patrons started thinking they had a chance... although I might have been flirting more more tips. Well one of them decided to take the plunge. By being incredibly drunk and following me home. I get back to my tiny flat, start getting changed, and suddenly he's knocking on the door. I start freaking out because he's screaming he loves me. I'm just thinking that I need help! That I want someone to help me. Dude starts trying to break down the door, because he's angry that I wouldn't open it and accept his love!"

Rene takes a breath and shudders.

"Then all a sudden I just hear this 'gkrk' sound. There's this sound of thumping and crashing. I open the door, and Alastar is between him and my door. He's looking a little bloodied, but he's angry, and he's staring this guy down. Phone in hand, hovering over the call button. So Drunky sees me, starts to come forward. To grab me, maybe? Well Alastar's having none of it, he shoves him back, takes a punch to the head, and then lays the guy out cold. Bam! Well the drunk goes down like a sack of potatoes. Alastar's hurting pretty badly. So I call the cops and bring him inside to try and do something about his wounds while we wait. He's nice looking, but he's keeping his eyes on the ground. That's when I realise I'm standing there in my unmentionables. I get embarrassed, he's already embarrassed. But he was pretty cute. So I throw on a dressing gown and try to tend to his hand, I catch his eyes and suddenly we both snap back like we've been hit by a truck. Boom! The memories come flooding back, all of them! I look into his eyes again and I can feel everything, I know everything about him. Like I've been waiting my whole life!"

"I can't remember which one of us started kissing the other first. But it was like that void had been filled. She was... everything I'd been waiting for. The officers interrupted us before it got too-." Alastar smiled.

"Turned out we'd always been close to on another but never met! Same schools, same street, he was two flats down from me where I was living. He's seen the drunk guy following me, and thought I might need help. Well the officer carted the Drunk away, and the medics took Alastar to make sure he was okay, I got pulled in for a statement. But it was okay. Because I knew that Alastar would be back soon. Cronos turned up shortly after that. The rest... is history."

So, do you flirt on the job, or is it all business? Do you wish it was different?

"Just try and stop her." Alastar rolls his eyes. "She picked her costume specifically to be able to tease me, and anyone else who's watching."

"He always tries to do this whole serious stoic face when we're in the middle of a fight. But I know when he's looking. And he likes what he sees! So, sometimes I'll give him a little wiggle of the hips." Rene winked and bit her lip. Alastar smiled despite herself.

"It can be a little distracting. And I do wish she'd take fighting a little more seriously-"

"I do!" Rene said. "I just... like to have a little half laugh when we're working."

Alastar blinked. "You dropped a giant teddy on a bad guy and asked if he could 'bear it'!"

"Oh come on! That was funny! Worked out so much better then my original idea..." Rene shrugged

"And that's why we don't fight bad guys at the zoo anymore. Anyway, no, I wouldn't want it any other way. It gets me mad sometimes. But Rene wouldn't be herself if she didn't drop herself into my lap, or kiss me out of nowhere."

What's a sure sign that Sable or is his minions are coming?

Well the first sign something is up is that Solina or another of the Calender comes a-knocking. If it's not her, it's usually Jace. They deliver their warnings, give a usually cryptic clue, and leave the two of them to get on with it. Rarely they hang about to give tactical support.

Sable is a creature of Paradox. It seeks discord between events occurring and what fate had intended. Feeding on the resulting energies. His minions therefore seek to disrupt anyone with destiny. Bringing chaos in it's wake. They are drawn to mass panic and confusion. As such Halcyon gets more then it's fair share targeting it and it's citizens. They look for ways to open paradox tears. Places where the energies can flow though. This involves set rituals or artifacts. They can take some time to set up, and have a number of tells, if you're looking for them, you can find them. Power outages, haunting reports. Strange dreams. If it sounds spooky, then it might be a paradox rite.

In the past there might be one or two a year. Now they're starting to increase in frequency. That can only mean one thing.

Trouble.

What does your "Happily ever after" look like? Do you really think you'll get it?

The two heroes look peturbed. As thought the question didn't make any sense. They glance at one another uncertainly. Alastar is the first to speak. He talks slowly, as though feeling his way though murky waters to find where the shallow path is.

"Look... m-maybe it's simpily that we've been doing this for a long time. Or maybe that since this curse, nether of us have ever had a... good end... to our lives. But I suppose we've stopped hoping for a happy ending... But.... passing away peacefully in each others arms in old age. That would be, nice? A long and happy life. Together. As it was always meant to be."

"Wow, check out Mr Morbid over here" Rene chips in, but there's no feeling to it. She lapses into an uneasy silence. "I-I just... I want to not be scared any more? That somethings going to come along and take him from me. That one day a fight is going to go wrong. At some point they always do... What I want is friends, a nice little house. Him and me. Maybe a kid or two. Happy! You know? Just peace, and love, and-and... and to not always be waiting for something bad to happen."

"Now, who's being morbid...?"

"Well, you started it..!" Rene retorts, sniffling slightly. She never liked to think about the end.

"Did you mean it?"

"Huh?"

"The bit about kids... did you mean that?" Alastar asks, looking at her with an intensity that causes Rene to gulp and stammer, flustered. But Alastar just pulls her close, and holds her. She looks vulnerable, unsure. But she sinks into his arms. "Maybe not right now. But someday. Maybe, once whatever madness is over... we'll talk about it. And we'll see. Okay?"

Rene says, nothing, just snuggles her head into his chest and holds him a little tighter.

Notorious J.A.M

Plastic Girl

quote:

How did you get here?

We were fighting Major Fallout at the brand new nuclear reactor that had been put up in Halycon City. He'd gone there to steal some plutonium for something. To be honest the details on the why and how are a bit fuzzy for me. All I knew was that he was a villain and we were there to stop him. He managed to make it past all of us into the main reactor chamber well almost all of us. Luckily I thought to double check the area around the reactor and that's where I found him siphoning off the plutonium. I changed straight away into a combat form and started fighting him. I wasn't counting on him having an Atomic Raygun though, he tried to shoot me but I managed to dodge most of his shots. That is until his shot hit the reactor there was an explosion and everything seemed to freeze. Next thing I know I'm waking up in ambulance and it's sixty years later. Apparently they found me laid unconscious in the middle of the diamond at Liberty Park. I guess the two radioactive elements mixing sent me forwards in time and space somehow.

quote:

How is your future self exactly what you never wanted to become?

I...She isn't like me at all. God this is confusing. Is she me? Is this what I'm going to be? I hope not I really do. She's/I'm a killer I've seen the records 30 dead villains that everyone knows about and who knows how many more she/I covered up. I don't believe a hero should kill unless there's like genuinely no choice. And she changed my name. I mean it's a pretty boss name I'll admit Everyman sounds way better than Plastic Girl. But I wanted to be a hero not some sort of cold blooded emotionless killer. I don't want to turn into that. I'd rather be dead myself first..

quote:

Who, outside of the team and your future self, wants to send you home?

The Watchmaker he's some sort of time controlling hero. I'm not sure how his powers work exactly but he specialises in time travel. Anyway when he met me for the first time after I started talking about where I was from. He started talking about "disruptions in the timeline" and an "excess of chroniton particles in the area of my appearance" He's not very good at talking to normal people though I think. But I got the general impression. I shouldn't be here and I need to go back otherwise something bad is going to happen. Or maybe already has happened. Time travel is enough to give me a headache.

quote:

Why are you determined to stay here, at least for now?

Because I can't go back. Still that said I'm not sure I want too. I mean the future isn't exactly the colonies on the moon utopia I was hoping for but it's still pretty righteous. And besides I have like 50 years of fashions, culture and most importantly baseball to catch up on. I don't want to miss any of it. It all looks really cool.

quote:

Why do you care about the team?

Well Halycon still needs it's heroes and it's reassuring to know that whatever else has changed there's still people standing up and fighting back. I couldn't be the person I am and stand back while there's a fight to be won and innocent people are getting hurt.

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

Well that would be Cowboy Jack, he has some sort of enchanted revolvers that never run out of ammunition and he's a really good shot he can make those bullets go anywhere. I thought he was some sort of time travelling refugee like me at first but really I think he just watched too many John Wayne films. Anyway he seems to have taken a shine to me. Said I remind him of someone he knew when he was younger. Said I shared her spirit and he owed it to her to look after me. We first met when some girl I'd never seen before came after me babbling something about killing her husband. I still don't know what that was about but she had some form of ice powers that were focused through her wand and she could put up walls and throw icicles. I held her off for as long as I could with some clever shifting but I could tell she was way stronger than me. And she knew it. She was toying with me when suddenly out of nowhere she took a bullet to the hand forcing her to drop the rod. It was Jack. I thought I was a failure but he said I'd done well to hold out as long as I had and that he liked me for a greenhorn. It wasn't long after that I got the call.

quote:

What's an interesting place in town?

Liberty Stadium Home of the Halycon Heroes the best baseball team in the country in my not at all biased opinion. A lot of Halycon has changed over the years but the stadium is still standing and hasn't changed a bit. Even the hotdogs are just as terrible as I remember. I've been to check out a few games since I got here and at least baseball is still baseball. It's nice to know some thing's never change and it looks like it's going to be a good season this could be our year!

quote:

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Dr Dugdale She's like some sort of very specialised psychologist, apparently I'm not the first person to turn up in Halycon from an alternate dimension or time and it's common enough that the League can and will pay to have a specialist on call to deal with it. And it helps believe you me. Finding out that everyone you knew is dead or missing or returned to their home dimension and that you're alone here. Well it was a shock and I had a bad moment but having someone to talk about it with helps. She's always there if I have any questions about how things have changed and if there's any aspects of modern life I'm having problems with. She's even talking about setting up some sort of support group or charity to help people who've been in this sort of situation. And I'm one of the lucky ones it was only sixty years for me. Some of them have come from a thousand years ago, or a couple of hundred years from now.

Abilities: Shapeshifting

Compared to your future self, you have limited strength, endurance, control, and
creativity; they can wield your powers far better than you can. Name three things they
can do with your powers that you wish you could.

Transforming into inanimate objects
growing and shrinking in size
Holding a shapeshift for more than a few hours

Your Future Self:

Your future self is out there, an important figure in Halcyon City and the world belong—and
everything you'd hoped you'd never be. But finding out how they became who they are may be all
it takes to push you along a similar path.

When you discover a part of your future self's path, fill it in.

  • Who did they lose?
  • How are they scarred? - Something on Campus caused her to lose the ability to maintain a solid form. Now the only thing keeping her from turning to goo is sheer willpower and spite.
  • What did they sacrifice?
  • What crime did they commit?
  • Who did they betray?

When you follow a step on the path towards your future self, choose one of the following:

  • Replace comfort or support with the following: When you coldly dismiss someone,
roll+Mundane. On a hit, they mark a condition or leave you alone, their choice. On a 7-9, they
can also choose to inflict a condition on you.
  • Replace defend someone with the following: When you defend the many while endangering
the few, roll+Savior. On a hit, you create an opportunity for yourself to press the attack, and take
+1 forward to pursue it. On a 10+, the collateral damage is minimal.
  • Replace provoke someone with the following: When you threaten someone, say what you
want them to do and roll+Superior. On a hit, they either do it, or they are put at a disadvantage,
their choice. On a 10+, mark a condition on them
  • Replace pierce someone's mask with the following: When you retreat into yourself,
    roll+Mundane. On a 10+, choose two. On a 7-9, choose one.
    ● You clear a condition
    ● You take Influence over you away from someone else
    ● You do not shift Labels to fit how your future self sees their self
  • Replace reject someone's Influence with the following: When you spit in the face of
guidance, roll+2. On a hit, take away their Influence over you or clear a condition, your choice.
On a 7-9, either force them to take a powerful blow, or take one yourself from the pain of your
    words.

Moves:

Growing into power:

When you unleash your powers to do something your future self can do,mark a condition to roll+Savior.

Finding another way:

When you accept the Influence of someone you think might help you avoid become your future self, mark potential and clear a condition

Team Moves:

When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, ask whether they think this is a victory
your future self would have had. If they do, mark potential and the GM will shift your Labels. If
they do not, clear a condition and they shift your Label

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, ask them if they think you could turn
into your future self. If they do, mark potential and the GM will shift your Labels. If they do not,
clear a condition and they shift your Labels.

You're fucking subhuman

Ghost Eater, the Legacy
Real Name: Jeong Lee

Oh! Hey there. Yeah, it's a little weird to be talking about superhero stuff out of the costume. I know I'm not the most approachable then, but that's kind of expected of me. Tradionally the Ghost Eater has stuck to the shadows and been a silent brooding type. And when I say traditionally I mean it is literally part of the way we're supposed to act. See, the early heroes felt that being dark and mysterious would benefit them since no one would really know what to expect. And the newest one usually tries to mix things up a bit. Like this mask - It doesn't actually do anything or have anything to do with the costume. It just throws people off.

It's odd I know, but that's just the way we've done it.

quote:

When did you officially become a part of your legacy?

On my 16th birthday my father retired and, as part of the tradition, ritually gave the powers of the Ghost Eater to me. Well, most of them. I'm still trying to figure out some parts of it.

quote:

What’s the greatest accomplishment of your legacy?

That would be how we gained our powers in the first place. Long ago there was this super villain running around. Calls herself Gwisin. Very powerful, and it was looking pretty bad since it seemed like no one was going to be able to stop her. So the first Ghost Eater searched long and hard, until they found this ritual. It would take away a great deal of Gwisin's power...and give it to the caster. Since the caster was a regular human, it didn't fully transfer over. Most of it works in or with darkness, not all the time. Anyway, once she had done it Gwisin was able to be taken down.

quote:

How does the public perceive your legacy?

Well, since one of the big traditions of the legacy is keeping things secret and potentially misinforming anyone on what exactly our powers might be, there's several thoughts out there. It ranges from people thinking we're really cool, to others that think we can eat the souls of anyone and should be feared. But for the most part we're pretty respected in Halcyon. Despite how we look we still act like most superheroes when it comes down to it.

quote:

How does your legacy tie into your reasons for being a hero?

It's part of my heritage. I think I'd disappoint my whole family if I refused. Not that I would! I like helping people and all. But if I'm being honest, I have to say the expectations of everyone kind of plays a big part.

quote:

Why do you care about the team?

Because it'll be nice to be with people who know what being a superhero is like. And maybe I can relax around them, even if it's just in private.

Abilities:

You have powers that match your general line. Choose one suite of powers, but pick two powers that you don’t have from your suite:

shadow control, shadow portals, mind-clouding, shadow cloak stealth, shadow senses

Labels:

Freak +1
Danger -1
Savior +2
Superior 0
Mundane +1

Moves

Fight the good fight: When you pull your punches while directly engaging a threat, you can roll +Savior instead of + Danger. If you do, you cannot choose to impress, surprise, or frighten your foe.

Symbol of authority: When you give an NPC an order based on authority they recognize, roll +Savior. On a hit, they choose one:
- do what you say
- get out of your way
- attack you at a disadvantage
- freeze
On a 10+, you also take +1 forward against them. On a miss, they do as they please and you take -1 forward against them.

Legacy

Your legacy is an important part of Halcyon City. Name the different members of your legacy (at least two):

Hwan Lee is still active and prominent in the city.

My grandmother, even though she no longer has powers, manages to keep busy in the superhero part of the city. They still respect her work from the past and since she doesn't have her powers anymore, she's more behind the scenes these days.

Sung Lee is retired and quite judgmental.

My father recently went into retirement, but that doesn't mean he doesn't keep an eye on me and let me know how he thinks I'm doing.

Iseul Lee is the next possible member of your legacy.

If something happens to me, my sister is the one who will pick up where I left off. See, being an immediate sibling, the power will go to her if I...you know. Die or whatever. It's happened before to previous Ghost Eaters.

Gwisin is the greatest opponent your legacy ever faced...and is still at large.

So...remember how our line started because of stealing power from Gwisin? Being a mega powerful ghost, she's been able to stay around and oh man is she still pretty pissed about the whole thing. We usually manage to keep her under control but it's not a great time when she shows up.

Whenever time passes, roll + Savior to see how the members of your legacy feel or react to your most recent exploits. Before rolling, ask the other players to answer these questions about your performance. Take -1 to the roll for each “no” answer:
- have you been upholding the traditions of your legacy?
- have you maintained the image of your legacy?
- have you made the other members of your legacy proud?
On a hit, one of them offers you meaningful encouragement, an opportunity, or an advantage. On a 7-9, another is upset with your most recent actions, and will make their displeasure known. On a miss, something you did stirred up the hornet’s nest—expect several members of your legacy to meddle with your life.

Moment of Truth
This is the moment when you prove how much the mantle belongs to you. You seize control of all your powers, and you defeat even impossible odds to prove you are worthy of the name you carry. You accomplish feats even your predecessors couldn’t do. Of course, after you prove something like that, you can expect still more responsibilities to be placed on your shoulders...

Team Moves
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, tell them whether you see them as an equal. If you do, give them Influence over you and mark potential. If you don’t, shift Superior up and any other Label down.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, tell them a secret about your legacy (including your own true feelings about it) to clear a condition and give them Influence over you.

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

My grandmother, Hwan Lee. Even if traditionally the Ghost Eater kept up an air of secrecy, she thinks being on this team will benefit us more. She was a little more sociable then most other Ghost Eaters even when she had the powers, so she was able to convince the heroes in charge to let me be in on it.

quote:

What's an interesting place in town?

The RADICAL STARCADE is a really fun arcade to hang out in. Me and Madeline often go there when we hang out. Yes, it is actually is spelled with all capital letters.

quote:

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Madeline Walton. She's just an ordinary person, but she's my best friend. I always love hanging around with her since I can basically be myself. Of course she has no idea what I actually do, but I've told her my family runs a business and I'm supposed to take over. About as close to the truth as I can get when talking to her about something personal going on.

quote:

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

Of course I do. Only my family knows that I'm also the Ghost Eater. Considering how much we try to keep hidden, I'm certainly not allowed to tell anyone about it.

quote:

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

Ghost Eater is seen sneaking around, lurking in the shadows, catching enemies by surprise...and then a quick moment of looking around before taking his mask off and sitting down to relax with a smile.

Backstory:

You want an interview, with ME? I mean, hah, yeah sure, I do this all the time! Of course I'm ready for an interview. Who did you say you were with again? Really? drat, I'd better um... AHEM, yeah sure, go ahead. Ask me anything.

When did you officially become a part of your legacy?

My mom officially passed on the Secrets of the Order when I turned sixteen, a few months ago. It's not easy inheriting a library like that, a great big catalogue of all the evils lurking in the darkness that want to eat us, but hey, there's a reason they stay in those shadows right? It was a ton of studying for the first few weeks, learning... geez everything there is to know about vampires and werewolves and sewer alligators... Yeah those are real! I didn't believe it either, don't worry. I mean, the alligators. Of course the vampires and stuff are real. Everyone knows that.

But I was only an initiate until I made my crossbow. Yep! I made it. Pretty slick eh? Every hunter has to make their own weapon, it's tradition, and it means you know absolutely everything about it, because it's all that's standing between you and whatever fangs and claws are coming for you... so it's pretty important to be familiar. What? No I didn't name it. It's a crossbow. If it breaks I'll have to make another one. Mom's gone through dozens. Sometimes you gotta ask more than it can give.

What’s the greatest accomplishment of your legacy?

Oh that's... hmm, a lot of what we do is kinda off the radar you know? Hush hush, secret stuff. The biggest thing that anyone knows about was when Grandpa and Grandma (you probably know them better as Piercer and Crimson Tear,) took out that crazy vampire Countess, Bathory, the one who bathed in all the virgin's blood. She was super ancient and evil and powerful, and I'm pretty sure they retired after that. Hung up the stakes and let my mom take over. My mom's been trying to one up them by going after Dracula but... heh, it's an 'ongoing project'.

How does the public perceive your legacy?

So, the Order... yeah it's just "The Order," not "The Order of" anything. I know, that's weird. I used to joke with my sister about "The Order of French Fries with a side of Pickles" but I'm sure that's not actually it. Our symbol is a stylized moon and sun, half of each mashed together. It's all mystical and stuff but there's no actual magic or anything. Just a ton of hard work and some tricks. Why use a crossbow if it's JUST a crossbow? Because it freaking works! I have like fifteen different kinds of bolts in my quivers, I need to be able to hot swap them without worrying about a gun jamming or my weapon getting wet or I don't know, MAGNETS. You never know, man.

Anyway, I think most people don't know much about us at all. I mean, they hear about the vampire hunting when it gets really public but that's only part of what we do. I can't go into all of the rest of it, some of it's a secret. For your own good, believe me you really don't want to know. Heck half of this stuff I don't really want to know!

I think people like us? At least, they approve of our results. We're not in it for the fame though. And a lot of people get a little freaked out about the whole ancient order that fights evil thing and say we think we're above the law. That's why I'm taking part in the Project. Er, you know, joining the new Super League... oh wait I'm not supposed to tell you about that. Off the record?

How does your legacy tie into your reasons for being a hero?

OK so if I'm honest, it's because a lot of the big monsters are gone, which is GREAT don't get me wrong, but there's not a lot of like, pride or honor or whatever, in fighting those sewer alligators. Sure someone's gotta do it, but if I've got these abilities, this knowledge, I'd rather apply it to other stuff too. And people shouldn't get a free pass if they're doing evil, you know? So yeah. I want to make a mark, show that the Order's still valuable even if there's no more vampires. Not that there aren't any more. I mean, Dracula, he's still out there. And there's some others I've heard rumors about.

Why do you care about the team?

Oh! So you DID already know about the new Super League! Phew, thought I messed up with that one.

Basically it's like this: My mom worked solo her whole life. My grandparents worked as a team, though, and I really think I can do a lot more good on a team than by myself. I mean, we haven't gotten together YET so it's hard to say much since I don't know who my teammates are, but I am pretty excited about it. I never got to play- well, um, Hang Out, with other kids my age much. Too busy studying and working out. (Seriously, have you seen these abs?) So meeting other kids who know what it's like to have those kinds of obligations is going to be special. Just watch, I'll be the leader within like ten minutes. I'm serious!

Oh, that was everything? You sure? I mean, there's so much stuff we could talk about! No, I don't... OK, if you think that's enough. Hey, you know what? Since you're the first person to interview me, I'll totally give you an exclusive after my first big mission. Oh, hah, I was just kidding before, don't uh... Wait, come back!

----

Questions to answer in addition to your playbook:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

MY MOM. (God, that's embarrassing.) Night Hunter's been in the Super League for a long time, since just after my sister was born. She's fast tracking me, which is sort of cheating, but I had to pass a ton of tests on my own before I was even considered for the new team so it's not as bad as it sounds. I honestly didn't think I'd be able to make it, since most of the other kids were going to be the ones born with powers or who had developed them somehow, and I'm still just me. I had to get really inventive for some of the tests, and they were dangerous too.

It was actually my idea to try out for the team though, I heard her talking to my grandparents about it over dinner one night and I asked her if I could try for it later that night. She thought it was a bad idea at first, I had to do some begging. And some lawn mowing. And some more begging. And beat the best record on the Yard's triathalon-run. (Which believe me, was harder than most of the superhero tests!) But once I convinced her she was on board 100% and gave me my shot. I'm not going to miss, Mom.

What's an interesting place in town?

LIBERTY PARK MINI GOLF! Who doesn't like putt-putt? Even villains come here sometimes. It's not what I'd call 'neutral ground' but usually if people want to fight here they keep it to the course. Which is not to say there isn't RAMPANT cheating by using powers. Because there is. Oh there is. They made the entire place flame-proof after the third time it burned down.

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

There's a family that the Order's always relied on for stuff, the Plovers. Michael Plover is the one I know best, he's about the same age as me. The Plovers are herbalists. Not in the ha-ha-really-drug-dealers sense but actual old-timey herbalists. They have the best greenhouse, all kinds of plants you could never find. And they sell a lot of the extracts that my family can't get anywhere else. They're nice people too.

Michael's going to go to med school after he finishes high school, it's pretty traditional for his family and he really wants to be a Pediatrician which I think is awesome. I'd never have the head for that kind of thing. He's the guy I would go to when I got scraped up during training, he always had a good joke and some kind of cream to take the sting out. I think he might be my best friend, but he's got a lot of friends so I doubt he thinks of me that way.

What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?
THEME (or something just close enough that it isn't a copywrite infringement!)

There's a sillouette of a full moon with a shadow in front of it, standing on the roof of a skyscraper. Red goggles flash in the shadow and then the light reveals Silver Bolt, who smirks and then jumps, running down the side of the building. Gargoyles and bat-like monsters attack him but he dodges them all and starts shooting his hand crossbow and tossing grenades that stun them. He ducks into a combat roll when he reaches the ground coming up with the big golden crossbow with a flaming bolt-head that fires over his shoulder like a rocket launcher and the camera follows the explosion off screen to the next hero.

ALTERNATE: IF Bunny-Bat were in the same intro credit, the explosion would singe her dress, she would whap him over the head with her umbrella, and he would blush and look sheepish before the camera followed her into her intro.

Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.

Who managed to make the leap you missed by going from TV star to respected celebrity?
Midway through season one of the Amazing Spiderman, the director thought I needed someone to play off of. My character would do quips and crazy tricks, but then the villain would just get mad, except for on the rare occasion their personality would let them quip back. I needed someone to joke off-of. Not to mention that the show needed drama. So, they set out to get me a partner.

They were originally going to just get someone without powers and do special effects, but that would be a pain with my actual powers. We lucked out and found a young talent who also had spider powers in Halcyon City. Big city, not a big surprise.

The real surprise was that Gwen Stacey -- don't say I told you I said that since we and the studio are contractually obligated to not say her name (same with me when it comes to her and the studio) -- was from the same class as me. Apparently, she also got bit by a radioactive spider on that trip to Oscorp (Just like me, she was officially called a mutant). Makes me wonder how many "spiderman" (well, Spiderwoman, in her case) are running throughout Halcyon City right now.

Anyway, midseason 2, she felt like she wasn't getting respect -- she wasn't -- and quit the show. She went solo and went straight to hero work. Proved herself better than my "sidekick" (I always considered her an equal partner, but the studio didn't). Got big quick and a lot of respect.

Hell, her success is part of why I thought quitting the show might be a good idea.

Not on the best of terms, though. We dated for a bit behind the scenes and it ended roughly. Sort of a sore spot. Wouldn't bring it up.

So, how did your Uncle find out that you were Spiderman?
That is a funny story. See, a kid as young as me suddenly getting a lot of money, being out all the time, and being evasive about where I've been lead him to think I'd been dealing drugs on the street or something. He couldn't be further from the truth, but, hey, can't blame him: it's a more believable story then "I got superpowers and then got a TV show where I play a fake superhero."

One day, I come home from shooting and he and my aunt May were waiting for me. They did a lot of heartfelt speeches and wanted to let me know that, even if we had trouble paying for things and making end's meat, Parkers always make it through on the right side of the law. When the thing started, I felt annoyed since I really didn't want to be found out, but, by the end, I felt terrible. Finally, I gave in and revealed my powers and job.

The results were mixed. My Aunt was okay with it, but my Uncle -- the guy who gave me all those Flying Freedom comics -- felt it was a waste. That got me pissed since I was helping pay the rent now since society was screwing us over. That I was being responsible. He agreed and appreciated it, but, with all the "crazies" running around, the country needs young people to step up and fight so people can sleep well at night. He is always like that, it's something I respect in him: never caring about himself, but always worrying about others.

But, needless to say, in that moment, it pissed me right off and lead to me storming out and spending a few days over my friend, Harry's, place until I calmed down and we reconciled.

Who at the Daily Bugle has your back, letting you know the details about the latest hatchet job? Why?

That'd be Robbie Roberston. He contacted me in an e-mail about it with his apologies. Apparently, he is the editor-in-chief there and really wants 3J to stop running this place "like a tabloid." Hell, he wishes all newspapers would get off celebrity's back since it "isn't real news" and wouldn't make lies up about "people just trying to do some good in this city."

He's a good guy and got my respect.

Do you have anything you want that the fame and respect get you, or are they an end to themselves?

What are you? Freud?

I want respect because I put a lot of work into my projects. I work out every day, I learned how to do martial arts so I could better choregraphy, I took acting classes, and a lot of other crap. What do I get for all that? Being treated like a joke. Hearing people make snide comments behind my back about how I'm "a shame to all people with powers" and "give mutants a bad name" (even though I'm not actually a mutant). That isn't what I deserve and I definitely couldn't stand it when that news report had Gwen (sorry, Spiderwoman) saying the same stuff: that was the last straw.

Hell, it's just infuriating to get mocked by everyone. It makes me glad that I kept a secret identity or else my entire life could have become "part of the show" and I'd have to see dumb magazine covers making fun of my Aunt May or something.

And it's not just that. I may be "an unfit rolemodel" but my character don't preach hate: he preaches truth, justice, and standing up for yourself. I send a positive message with my show and my short-lived music career. Entertainment can affect people, man. Maybe it is just a dumb show, but maybe it helps some kid out there or something like that.

Doesn't help my official story is I'm a mutant: they don't have it easy. Lot of prejudice. When I suggested that being my cover, there was a lot of pushback. A positive portrayal of a mutant on TV wasn't exactly something the network wanted on the show: too much potential for controversy. But, I got them to back down and use that story by pointing out how much worse a lawsuit over kids getting sick from trying to get my powers would be. I doubt my show or my life could really help mutantkind -- even I'm not that self-absorbed --, but being so unrespected that I disgrace them, especially when I'm not actually one of them, just makes me feel like a sack of dirt. Especially since I still l remember that one mutant kid who told me my show made him feel "normal."

Or, heck, maybe it is all about me and everything I say otherwise is just some elaborate excuse. I know I can be an egotist, but, hey, no man really knows himself, ya know?

warehouse 7 security camera 1D log: 6.19.16 23:09 posted:

Two figures stand outside the entrance to a dark warehouse, watching the road. One has his hands cupped near his mouth, holding the stub of a cigarette in it, protected from the wind. A flash of black, darker than the light of the night, and both crumple to the ground. Behind them, a silhouette is dimly visible as the thick heel of its boot treads out the lit butt on the ground, and then it fades into the night again. A flicker of motion, a streak of red is visible for an instant over the fence as the figure flips over into the yard beyond.

All is silent for awhile longer, until suddenly the quiet night is rent with a burst of sound, yelling, muffled gunfire, shouting, cursing, the sounds of running feet, a smashing window. From the top floor of the warehouse, glass shards fly in every direction as a figure in black, illuminated in red lights now leaps out backwards, the muzzle of her gun flashing as she lays out a carpet of darts into the room to cover her exit. Then as she falls backwards towards the fence, her body twists, turns, and somehow, she's perched on the fence, one hand and one foot holding her securely between the barbs of the wire top. Her mouth, the only visible part of the person underneath, is stretched into a wide grin as she looks up at the building, her other hand holding the stolen documents she'd come in for.

But before she can make good her escape, a man appears in the window, aiming a gun of a strange design at her. He fires! A jagged bolt of electricity arcs down, heading dead on for her. She throws up her hand in desperation! The bolt hits, running along her arm, coursing through her body, and then... it vanishes. The smile on her face is even wider now, and crackling slightly with a hint of electricity, she leaps away, vanishing over the rooftops. Away clean, or so she thinks.

A bit later, I throw the papers down in disgust. There's enough evidence in it to keep investigations going for months, but none of what I wanted. If the mayor was involved in these deals, he was doing an excellent job of hiding it. After a moment of frustration, I pick them back up again, and prepare to move out. I'll slip them into the police station's mailbox on my way home. But as I move to go around the corner, I nearly run head into The Cobalt Samurai. I barely manage to hold in a curse. How does she do that? Her outfit is one of the flashiest I've ever see but she blends into the night like it's nothing.

The Cobalt Samurai

From the look on her face -the visible part anyway- I can tell it's going to be the same as it always is. Another lecture. Too risky. I show off to much. I'm enjoying the fighting more than I should be. Letting my emotions get in the way. She prattles on, and yup, the same thing. If I ever want to become a true hero, join the Super League, I need to focus on the heroics, not the fun. I shuffle my feet, and look away, because, like always, I know she's right, but still... This is fun, that shouldn't stop me from doing good though! Enjoying being a hero isn't a cri-wait what?

I blink, and look up at her. The usual lecture had gone exactly the same as always, up until the end. "-and that's why, Barracuda, I'm putting you on a team with some other young heroes." What? They're reforming the Junior Super League. And she wants me to be on it. That's... either a sign that she believes in me, or one that she really doesn't. Hmm. Still... It might be better to work with other heroes my age, they'd understand where I'm coming from better than The Cobalt Samurai can. "Alright, let me know when to meet them." I hand over the papers, she'll be able to use them better than me anyway. Time to go home. Even once I've gotten home, laying in bed staring up at the ceiling trying to sleep, the adrenaline, the exciting and the pure joy of the nights work is pumping through me, and I can tell I won't be asleep for a long time. This is what I want to do.

The Mask
You wear a mask and hide your real identity. Choose what Label you try to embody while wearing your mask: Danger
Once per session, you can affirm either your heroic or secret identity to switch your Mundane with your mask’s Label.
When you reveal your secret identity to someone who didn’t know it already, mark potential.

Mild-mannered
When you try to use your civilian identity to deceive, trick, or slip past someone, roll + Mundane. On a hit they buy your facade. On a 7-9, choose one:
- you’re still under observation
- you leave something incriminating behind
- you’re forced to make a fool of yourself to sell it On a miss, one of your civilian obligations rears its ugly head.

Dangerous web
When you reveal a trap you’ve left for someone using your powers, roll + your mask’s Label. On a hit, your opponent trips into it, and you get an opening or opportunity against them. On a 10+, take +1 forward to pursuing it. On a miss, the trap inadvertently leads to a dangerous escalation.

Game Face
When you commit yourself to save someone or defeat a terrible enemy, mark a condition and take +1 ongoing to all rolls in direct pursuit of that goal. At the end of any scene in which you don’t make progress towards that goal, mark a condition. When you fulfill your goal, mark potential.

Secret Identity
Your mundane life comes with a series of obligations. Choose a total of three obligations. student government, family expectations/piano prodigy, significant other.

When time passes, roll + your Mundane to see how you’re managing your obligations. On a hit, things are going pretty well—you have an opportunity or advantage thanks to one of your obligations. On a 7-9, you’ve lapsed on one obligation, your choice. On a miss, you haven’t given your normal life anywhere near the attention it deserves; the GM chooses two obligations that are going to bite you in the butt.

Drives
Choose 4 drives to mark at the start of play. When you fulfill a marked drive, strike it out, and choose one: mark potential, clear a condition, take influence over someone involved. When your 4 marked drives are all struck out, choose and mark 4 new drives. When all drives are struck out, change playbooks, retire from the life, or become a paragon.

Moment of Truth
The mask is a lie, and some piece of you has always known that. Doesn’t matter if others can see it. You’re the one that can do the impossible. Mask off. Costume on. And you’re going to save the drat day. Of course, you better hope nobody nasty is watching…

Team Moves
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, ask them if they see you as the person wearing the mask or the person underneath. If the former, mark potential and clear a condition. If the latter, take Influence over them if you reveal yourself.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, tell them a secret about who you really are. Give them Influence, and shift your Mundane up and your mask’s Label down.

I have to fill our a survey? This is stupid.

When did you first put on the mask? Why?

The Barracuda Mask came a little later, but my first night out came about a month back. The night before, I'd finally realized I had powers. There'd been signs for a few weeks, but I'd ignored them for the most part. Accidentally leaving finger prints in my toothbrush handle, broke a glass when I squeezed too hard. Better times in gym, and I could keep time perfectly without even trying when I was playing the piano. It wasn't until I was trying to have some tea that I realized something was going on. See, I kept pouring hot water into the cup, lifting it up, and by the time it'd get to my lips it was cold. Anyway, eventually I figured out what was happening, and it was like... I knew.

The constant pressures and the every day grind of my stupid life had worn me down too far. But if I had powers, that was something new I could do. I could be a hero. I couldn't as myself, obviously, but with a mask, I could be someone else. When I put on my mask, I stopped being Susanna Collins, prodigy, model student, perfect daughter to terrible parents, and instead I could be... well I didn't have a name at first. I tried a couple, The Night Avenger, Robina Hood, The Knight Avenger, uh, stuff like that. I didn't settle on Barracuda until I got my real outfit.

Who, outside of the team, knows about your dual identity? Why do you keep a secret identity?
The Cobalt Samurai knows, she uh... well she found me when I was first trying my hand at superheroics. Got in way over my head in what I thought was going to be breaking up a mugging, but was actually the start of a smuggling delivery. She hooked me up with the suit too, got it made from someone who does that sort of thing for the real pro heroes. Said running around in a domino mask and a ski mask I dug up from our attic and basement respectively (family's like mine never throw anything away) wasn't appropriate attire for a hero. But you know, even with that botched job I did the first night, I knew I'd never be able to give it up. It felt too good. I knew instantly that that was the real me, out there, fighting crime, saving people, risking everything to save the day. And that's why I keep my identity secret.

Who thinks the worst of your masked identity?
Well, my parents for one (two). Look, let me give you a really brief picture of my Dad. The night I was figuring out my powers, I accidentally bent the streetlight on the road in front of our house over. I didn't admit it was me, obviously, and so that got Dad off on a rant about lowered property values with the 'riffraff' coming in, and the city wasting our tax dollars on people living like kings off it instead of maintaining the respectable neighborhoods (aka, our gated community). Mom isn't so vocal about that sort of thing, but she absolutely refuses to have Ms. Washington over when its her turn to host the tea circle, and she doesn't say it out loud, but she's only ever hired white maids for the house.

And Barracuda's hurt a lot of places run by Dad's friends or business partners. I'm sure he couldn't be involved in any of the rings I've been routing out, he isn't that bad of a person, but each time she hits one of them, he gets a bit more angry at this 'fake hero' sullying the good names of men he knows, and hurting his own bottom line. Like he needs any of those investments to pay off to live happily for the rest of his life.

Why do you care about the team?
They've got my back, I've got their's. We're all here for the same reasons in the end. And they're my friends, even if I don't like all of them. They're sharing in the same real experiences I am, the ones shaping who I really am.

What's an interesting place in town?

Halcyon Symphony Hall. The Orchestra is really impressive, and the hall itself feels incredibly extravagant -and this is coming from someone who lives in a small mansion. I did a piano recital here for most of the upper society of Halcyon City after my latest awards. It was dreadfully boring. But the view made up for it a bit. Seriously, this place is incredibly nice.

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

This is my boyfriend, Casey Cook. He's the son of the Mayor, Casey Cook Senior. I lied, he isn't interesting at all. I think... he must have been once, because I can remember that I did like going out with him, originally. But I'm stuck in it now. Mom and Dad have it fixed in their mind that we'll be getting married after school, and they want the connection to the mayor that comes with him. And even if they wouldn't give me endless pain for breaking up with him, he's an in with the Mayor as well. And I need as many leads as I can get on that scumbag. Someday, I'll have enough to get him. So until then, it's a lot of dumb dates and even more listening to endless stories about his football games. God I hate sports.

What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?
My main section of the intro montage is split between me in my civilian life, going through the motions with a dead eyed look, at school, at the piano, at dinner with my family, at a movie with Casey. The other half shows Barracuda, darting around the inside of what looks like an office building, flipping between walls, the floor, holding lightly onto the ceiling, firing tranquilizer darts at several security guard looking types who are firing back wildly. Occasionally I zip by, barely visible, to knock a guard in the back of the neck, dropping them unconscious to the floor. Other scenes have Barracuda fighting alongside the team, until the very end of the credit sequence, where it shows each hero and their 'objective', it shows Barracuda staring up at the giant face of the Mayor, outlined over the cityscape, her mouth in a tight frown.

Bunny Bat, the Redeemed
So, since you're trying to be on the straight and narrow, who's keeping you fed? Why?

It's a mixture of 'donations' from the blood bank, people who agree to it, and, well, villains. The problem is, the first one is a pretty low amount - basically, if I need any extra, because I was in an actual fight and need to heal up, for instance, I need to fall back on the last two. Which kind of sucks, but what can you do?

As for why, there's not really much to it. The League has agreements with all kinds of special needs heroes. Like, some of these need to eat metal, or their power requires they drink huge amounts of water, or whatever. I'm really just one of them. Granted, the fact that I'm a former villain is somewhat unique, but the reception to that is surprisingly positive, in-league. They're hoping, like me, that it actually sticks, of course.

Not like there's an alternative, anyway. I have to get the blood from somewhere. Best out of a blood-bag than a civ', right? Especially since it's pretty hard to control myself when I'm on a blood-craze.

Which one of your old teammates doesn't seem to mind your new line of work?

Sara, or as you know her, Evil Eye.

Yeah, I was surprised, too. But then again, she thinks it's just a phase, and I'll 'bounce right back'.

... I did tell you she's a bit nuts, right? Lag's ambivalent, and Lumi' doesn't approve at all, to complete the set. Not all that surprising. Lumi likes being a villain a bit too much. It's kinda creepy, actually.

quote:

What important thing did you steal that you haven't gotten around to returning? Why?

Well, uhm... It's kinda awkward. See, remember when we raided the town hall? I kindamaybesorta 'borrowed' the replacement master key. And then, a few weeks later, forgot about it. I just recently found the drat thing again. Was stuck way down in one of my backpacks.

And, uh, much to my surprise, it still worked. They didn't swap the locks or anything. I just... I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it. If I give it back they'll just accuse me of having stolen it recently, and perhaps even revoke my probationary period.

So yeah, I'm... just gonna keep it for now. And hey, with the frequency people raid the town hall, this may just be incredibly useful in a pinch.

What really weird gift from Dracula turned out to be pretty handy?

Oh, it's gotta be this thing.

Sunniva pulls a small, pink hair bow and puts it on. She promptly... turns into a bat. With said hair bow on it... And then reverts back.

Yeah, vampires turning into bats? It's real. This is a little thing that helps fledglings like me how to do it. Needlessly to say, it's pretty useful to be able to fly, even if it's slow. But holy hell, that pink bow on the bat form is so embarrassing. I REALLY worked hard to no longer need this thing. Maybe that's the point, though.

The number of bats correlates to your skill and age. Dracula turns into a huge swarm of the things. What, me? Oh, about ten. It's kind of hard to count - you're way more focused to just keep the drat things from crashing into things, after all you're controlling multiple bodies at once.

Wonder if it works on non-vampires...

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

Well, yes and no. It's not like I wear a mask... but I'm using a fake last name, and I'm literally half the world away from my real birthplace. As for why not... I don't see why it matters. I mean, I'm a bloody vampire, I haven't exactly kept contact with my parents. Only Dracula himself knows who I really am, since he found me and everything.

Lodestone, when was the last time Bolt surprised you with how responsible she was?

"Hm, that's a good question. It's got to be the clean-up from the battle we had with Fenrir at Halcyon Cinema 21 a week or two ago. So we were battling all over the place -- crazy wolf iceblasts, metal projectiles of all sorts, and, of course, way too much lightning. Artemis showed up after a bit and we were able to chase him away without too much more trouble. Problem solved, right? Well, no. We had knocked out the building's power and it was the weekend that Super League Kids: The Movie was opening. There were kids everywhere. And, let me tell you, they don't deal well with sudden power outages in an already dark theater. Or giant ice wolves. Can't blame 'em there.

So, there we were with a bunch of crying kids who had been separated from their parents. Artemis ran off to 'coordinate the disaster relief efforts with the league response team.' I'm pretty sure she's just bad with kids. I'm not much better. I was already resigning myself to hours of babysitting when Nat sat down with them and started talking to them. Nothing crazy, just introducing herself and explaining that we were heroes who were there to help. Asking a few questions about Super League Kids. It worked. They started calming down and before I knew it they were mobbing us and asking what it's like to be a hero. That was way more manageable."

quote:

Bolt, what's the something thing that Lodestone will shirk off being responsible to indulge in?

"That's easy! Alex is a total nerd, he always gets up early on Saturday to watch superhero cartoons. Sometimes he'll be watching TV until lunch! Remember that paperwork stuff I was talking about earlier? It never gets done on Saturday. I mean, obviously I'm not going to do it. That's Alex's job. I remember one time, a month or so ago, they were running a weekend marathon of Super League Adventures and I literally had to drag him out of the house mid-episode to get him to help fight off the Subterranean Uprising. He was such a grouch about the whole thing.

Ironically, the cartoon was about a subterranean uprising too!"

quote:

What was it like the last time your bond was disrupted?

"It's happened a couple of times, when psychic villains try to control one of us. It's...tough to explain. It's like when you point a microphone at a speaker and get feedback. It starts off as a weird buzz and then all of us are just writhing on the floor with the noise from hell in our heads until we pass out. Everyone wants it to stop, but nobody can do anything about it. I remember that one time the henchmen pulled whats-his-face into their get-away car and it went away when he was too far away to maintain the psychic link."
---
"Our connection gets weird for a while after. Everything feels fuzzy and distant. I can still talk to Nat and feel her presence, but it's like we're on the opposite side of a basketball court and yelling at each other."
---
"I always feel off-balance when it gets like that. Kind of like being drunk, or on a boat. It's no fun!"
---
"Not that we'd, uh, know what being drunk is like."

quote:

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

"Um, not really? It's not like we're going on the internet and broadcasting 'Hey guys, it's the Carvers! We live on the corner of 43rd and Paragon Ave!' or anything, but the costumes we have don't exactly have masks or anything."
---
"Secret identities are kind of a mess these days. I'm sure it made a lot of sense back in the days when the league was founded, but now it just seems like a source of drama. It's a different time. I mean, you have the unspoken rules of heroes and villains, right? It's...kind of like a game, in a way. We put them in jail, they escape, rinse and repeat. If someone goes after your friends or family, the game is over. They aren't going to jail. They'll end up in the hospital, or the morgue. Exiled to a different dimension. Who knows. If people jump your friends or family by mistake? Because they didn't know who was off-limits? The only one at fault is you."
---
"Eesh, that's pretty bleak, Alex. I don't know about all of that, but it's not like I'm ashamed of what I do or anything. Sure, our folks kind of hate that we're out there day after day risking our lives. I can't imagine trying to sneak it by them, though!"
---
"I think Dad just wanted us to be like, uh, accountants or something. Safe. Boring."
---
"Lame!"

Who did you beat down when you were on the Witch's leash that you can't get out of your head?
I dunno his name, or anything about him but I do know that he wanted to be there exactly as much as I did. This guy wasn't a criminal who picked the wrong place to break into, he looked like someone that'd be a chemistry teacher in high school. Probably got pulled into this crap same way I did, pure lovely luck. Anyway, he broke in, almost certainly under orders, and of course he got caught. I'm sure ya can guess who had to make an example outta the poor gently caress. Hated every second, even more than usual. He didn't deserve that, he was just some guy caught in somethin' way bigger than him.

quote:

What's Nock done that you're honestly thankful for? Did you let him know?
This is gonna sound dumb as gently caress, and if ya ever say anythin' about it to anyone I'll deny it and then I'll find ya, but he's always said that his couch is free, no matter what. I've never taken him up on that, but it does mean a lot. I've sure as hell never told him that, but somethin' tells me he knows anyway, probably some stupid older brother sense or some crap.

quote:

Why do you think that Wildfire picked you for the team instead of Nock? How'd Nock take it?
Man, how the gently caress should I know why a big time superhero does anything they do? Could be he feels sorry for the poor kid that life's hosed over. He probably just figured this little team needed a designated poo poo kicker, that's what I think. I don't know why Nock didn't get in on this thing, he's a lot more qualified for it than me that's for sure, but I do know that bein' left out's got to him. He's hasn't out and said anythin', or shown it at all, but I can tell that somethin's up.

quote:

What omen usually presages that Witch's goons appearing?
Funnily enough it's her own magic that gives her boys away. See I'm not some kinda fancy pants magic user or anything, so I didn't just wave my hands and poof that control away, I snapped that fucker will anger and willpower. Just brute forced it the second I saw a chance. If you've ever pulled a string 'til it snapped ya know that it's not clean, ya end up with two bits that each have some little tufts left hangin'. And that's just it, the bit of the leash that's left over kinda flails at any other bits it feels, and her boys are always, always, reeking of the stuff. Not all of them were forced like me, but she's never happy with her stuff when it's just out of the box. She likes to customize. So I get this nice little twinge when her magic's around, saved my rear end a few times, let me tell ya.

What exactly do your parents expect of you that make them such an obligation on par with the others?

First off, I have to maintain my identity and my persona such that they don't expect anything from either my superheroics or my ... real self. I have to carefully manage myself to look "normal", to be their beautiful "normal boy". I work hard at school. I help them with groceries. I go to all their family events. Chores, long, awkward conversations, horrid dinnertimes, all the while putting up the facade of my fake self, CONSTANTLY, unable to let a single crack show. Unable to let them see even for a minute who I really am. Do you understand how much of a drain that is, emotionally, physically? And for someone I'm supposed to love, for people who have done so good for me, do you know how hard it is to also know that I can NEVER let them understand me, that they would hate me if they knew who I was , that my life can never be known to them, not truly?

I suppose I should tell you about them, too.

Yu Nijimura- Professional Casino Dealer

My father deals cards at the Fortuna Casino and Resort. One of the top dealers there, he takes pride in his job, to win and play at the perfection of ability even under the restricted rules of the casino, to spot even the best cheaters, and to keep even the losers coming back, enjoying themselves, and willing to spend more. He's a big proponent of luck as a major force in life, fittingly enough with his job, and will often espouse long tangents on the will of fortune, blah, blah blah. More pressingly, he's also a pretty big proponent of traditional masculinity, the rough, tough, and smart boys on the block- and not much a fan of feminine things, re-examining his personality, or changing his mind after he's already set on a course. Absolutely one of the most stubborn people I know. Overprotective to a fault, but as long as you're doing something he thinks you should, he'll support you to no end.

Setsuko Nijimura, Lawyer
My mother, on the other hand, is a lawyer. You'd think she wouldn't have been my father's type in this regard, but no, somehow it worked out in the end. I guess he doesn't mind being the secondary source of income in the house. She works as a civil lawyer, specializing in... Well, superheros, and the legislation thereof. She's been responsible for several major lawsuits on the league, a few of which were even won. She's clever, and way too good at reading people. It's a constant arms race in my lying to get anything past her- yeah, a lawyer and a card sharp, I have a REAL easy time hiding things from my parents, let me tell you. So, not really a fan of heroes, another reason my identity stuff is hard, though luckily her job also keeps her very, very busy ,which gives me a bit of leeway- sometimes, she's too busy investigating other things to worry about me.

It's not really something to count on.

My mom... is the one I think MIGHT be supportive if she found out that I was... you know, a girl. You'd think she would be- she has a gay sister, for one ,and they get along relatively fine, but then she turns on the news and hears about stuff and... talks, sometimes. Mmn. I don't know- I'd like to think it would be different because it was me ,but...

quote:

Who else on the student council knows what's going on with your super hero identity (and thus also your non-super hero identity) and is supportive?

Aubrey Stanford, Student Council Treasurer
Aubrey is a good friend. She's the treasurer for the student council, having gotten there by even more of a popularity test than normal, but at the same time she's an open and friendly and all around ACCEPTING person, really. She found out about my superhero identity back when I was still trying to get the hang of all this- so there was a deal that something might happen around school, the local Supervillain... Ugh, don't make me say it. 'The Boi Pepe', a local frog themed supervillain-well, they keep changing the theme as memes advance, anyways, they were supposed to be heisting the trophy case or holding someone hostage or something? It was never really clear, and the guy never actually showed up... but the point is, I went into the men's locker room when no one was around to change and WHOOPS, Aubery caught me on the way out, so my midnight stakeout had ALREADY been compromised, and it was kinda hard to explain what was going on without looking a fool, and she'd seen my hero identity on the news, and... well, long story short, kind of interrogated me as to what was going on. So I told her, and told my parents I was heading to her house that night, and they let me because I think they were happy i had a girlfriend or whatever (she's not), but eh. ... So we talked, and I told her about the business with myself , and long story short, it worked out pretty well. I have a friend to get me alibis, an ally at school, too. She's good with numbers and good with people, good at words and convincing and conniving, so she's been pretty helpful, and well... I like her as emotional support, too.

When's the last time you used violence that made you uncomfortable?

A week ago, I encountered a teenager at school. One of the local pothead kids, which honestly I don't mind. Whatever, I think it's stupid that he does it at school, but generally I don't give a poo poo. Only problem was, this kid was getting onto the fact that SOMETHING Was up with me, and was pestering me about it, and even threatening to spread rumors, do blackmail, the whole nine yards. Now normally, I wouldn't... but I had my own blackmail, from pictures I'd taken in the past, and some I obtained after the fact, of his criminal and against-school policy wrongdoings. I held them over his head, with the strict knowledge that if he didn't drop this line of questioning, the pictures went out to the school.

He dropped it, but I still feel bad about coercing someone in that way, even someone who was trying to do the same to me.

I'd write more, but I've slightly exhausted myself from the novels I wrote in my app, some of these questions are answered by the app. But I'll put answers here regardless. Also I finished the initial questions in the app as well.

quote:

Who do you think might be one of those mages, reborn? Why?

"Just read the story of who's sponsoring us... I'd be less mad, if this wasn't how Solina operated all the time. I don't really know if she's reborn or if she's just time jumping. What I do know is she's a massive pain in the neck." Alastar said.

"Nah! She's sweet as a button! Plus, have you seen her with Markus, they are SO CUTE!!!" Rene interjected.

quote:

So no, I don't mind her making up her own mind, it's just... she can take it really hard when it goes wrong, and I like to protect her from that."

quote:

Key, what happened recently that makes you think your grand destiny might be coming to a head?

"Well Solina said so... and honestly, that scares me... I don't want to get sacrificed again. Or whatever else that thing can think up. I know Aegis said he'd protect me, but I don't want to see him hurt ether! I just... I don't know what to do... I'm feeling totally helpless...!"

quote:

I can't turn my back on that."

quote:

just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

"Oh yeah we do. Students at the collage, we've got a real life and everything! I've got a boyfriend, who loves me, and who (keep this on the downlow) has the hottest rear end!" Rene says giggling and blushing at the thought.

"I heard that thought!" Alastar's voice comes from somewhere in the background.

"The hottest rear end!" Rene whispers, and smiles.

Hamon, the Newborn
What's something that Dr Gotama left for you that you don't understand?

"After our first battle was completed and I had assumed I was the only thing Dr. Gotama had left behind, it came as a mild sense of surprise when Dr Vasily on my 2nd week of being his lab assistant, gave me a wrapped package addressed to me personally.

My Firstborn, Hamon.

For when your need is most dire. And only then.
Do not shake.

"Casual fingertip analysis of the package reveals what appears to be a book shaped package, very thick, it's contents unknown for the brown paper encasing the package was in the way. This unit was confused about the term 'Firstborn' but when querying Doctor Gore he seemed to go very quiet for a moment and would not comment further on this revelation. I have kept it on my person until this unit feels that this situation is suitably dire as per instructions however. What exactly constitutes as dire I am uncertain of at this time."

Capfalcon posted:

Is there something you think you'd rather do than be a superhero, even if you think you can't do it right now?

"I am a builder, I like to build, I have been showing a passing interest in the profession of architect for this purpose. This unit feels a sufficient tribute to the late Doctor Pau, would have been to follow in his wishes to build a better world. This unit feels that this aim has a lot of complications surrounding this action, but perhaps the literal construction of a separate world is not what the intention of this statement is."

"The construction of homes for those who have lost theirs in the course of super-heroic activities however, feels like a very good way to assure the people of Halcyon City that my intentions despite my inhuman appearance my sole desire to protect them, this unit thinks. I shall try to learn these things between my very needful work, 'there is no rest for the wicked' I think the human term is, but I do not need rest and I am not understandably wicked therefore I am unsure if I should use it."

Capfalcon posted:

What do you do to pass time between orders?

"I wait."

"No, perhaps this is a falsehood. This unit spends the time that is not spent on being a licensed superhero, or being a lab assistant to pursue his own studies. Doctor Vasily Gore places much importance on the learning of information and the practical use of said information so I have been making attempts to learn all he can."

"However, this unit is incapable of forgetting information once learned and reads quickly. I have read Doctor Vasily's immediate library and have now taken to finding more books to read. I have since learned a few things, one is that this unit attracts a lot of attention when he is seen in public, and the other is that this unit does not have sufficient personal information to acquire a 'library card', which appears to be a necessary apparatus for acquiring more books. I have requested Doctor Gore for sufficient information in order to acquire a 'library card' and continue my studies but he has been very delayed in his work."

"He also genteelly scolded me when I repeated a few words that I had seen written on the walls around the city in front of his fellow superheroes, and learnt a very interesting lesson that day."

Capfalcon posted:

What was it like the first time you got hurt? Or would you prefer 'damaged'?

"Pain is a human concept that as I understand is a result of the body telling the brain that it is receiving damage and it should seek to avoid further damage if possible. However, due to my construction to allow for operation within extremes of climate that a human would normally find uncomfortable at best and fatal at worse, I am not equipped with the ability to feel 'pain' as it rather defeats the purpose of operating in dangerous environments. What would be the point of simulating pain for a being that feels none?"

"The first time I received damage however was a minor incident within Doctor Gore's lab. I was assisting in the stress testing of a new alloy during the night and due to a careless miscalculation I had gotten my hand trapped into the press and had it crushed, the feeling of suddenly losing all responsiveness in my hand was an experience I did not feel like I enjoyed, with the added desire to avoid the incident again. However, it was most inconvenient as I couldn't reach the emergency stop button and this unit was subsequently stuck in the clamp until Doctor Gore arrived in the morning. My hand has been replaced since then, along with a chiding on the importance of lab safety and not getting your limbs crushed in dangerous implements."

Capfalcon posted:

Hamon looks at his large robotic hands, then at his smaller robotic feet, and then finally at a mirror, showing his projection screen of a face and turns back to the interviewer

"I am unabashedly unique in my construction, and would calculate that in all probability hiding my identity with simple domino mask and latex tights will not be sufficient to maintaining a 'secret identity'. Therefore, I see no particular reason to hide my identity to the world at large.

"Perhaps if I acquired a more human shaped body down the line this might be worth considering, but until then I will reside in this body."

What's a place that's changed to keep up with the times, but still feels just the same?

League HQ located still at One Liberty Plaza. I understand that the building I used to be in and out of has since been blown up by a particularly ambitious super-villain but they rebuilt it. Bigger and better than ever They took us there for a tour and some interviews before we signed up. And well I'm impressed. I don't quite understand all the tech upgrades they were talking about but I get the idea of the automated defence systems and the fact that it's artificially sealable to protect from gas or radiation attack and that it has a fully equipped trauma suite and staff trained in "Special medicine" oh wait you're not supposed to call it that now right? Umm what was it. Meta and extra-human medicine that's the ticket. But what really impressed me most was the people I haven't had the chance to catch up on everything I've missed in these lost years but the place was bustling heroes moving in and out with a sense of purpose a sense of pride. A desire to do good and defend the innocent. It's good to know that people with the right stuff are still around.

Capfalcon posted:

What's gone that you miss? Why?

Aside from my family and friends? I was tempted to look them up by the way but I'm not sure any of them are still alive. And even if they are they've probably built their own lives, without me. Last thing you want is some great-aunt turning up whose younger than you are. Besides I'd only make them targets. But if I can't say family what can I say. I miss the culture I suppose. I lived in an era where anything seemed possible. We'd stopped the Nazi's , nuclear power was going to solve everything and we were going to the moon. Somewhere along the way America lost that and I'm not entirely sure why. Instead everyone is so cynical. Too big? Well ok I miss this little diner that used to be on the corner of Third and Main they made the best breakfast waffles I ever had. I went past there the other day and it's a pet shop now. What a waste of good waffles.

Capfalcon posted:

What's Major Fallout up to these days?

That's the thing, I haven't been able to find any record of him. There's not even any record of the battle I fought in, even though from what I can gather most of my team-mates who were there survived and went on to have some quite successful careers. It's like the whole thing never happened. And that just doesn't make any sense really I mean if there's another me running around then it must have happened. I mean I was there. Could he have been caught in the explosion and time-displaced like me? I hope not I mean the futures not that bad for me. But if I recall correctly he was one of the hard core commies, I doubt if he's popped out somewhere he's happy his side lost the cold war. Which surprised the heck out of me I'd have given us 50/50 that we'd either be speaking Russian or battling giant radioactive ants by now. Still I'm sure if he turns up I won't make the same mistake I made last time. Nothing about this adds up at all though. It'd take someone with serious connections to make all the evidence of a major fight like that vanish.

Capfalcon posted:

What happened the last time you ran into your future self?

I wasn't even sure it was me at first. Trust me when you're a shapeshifter you learn not to take things at face value but I was fooled. It was another one of those government goons I thought. I dunno what they think I'm supposed to know any deep dark secrets I knew would be sixty years out of date. Not that I do know any you understand but the government sure seems convinced I'm hiding something. Possibly about my future self. This was another fishing expedition but then the questions started to get a little personal. Stuff that no one else other than me could have known about so I got suspicious. And I confronted the "agent" I'm actually kind of weirded out by the thought I was talking to myself. He? She? I? congratulated me on my perceptiveness and said they wanted to get a closer look at me. And that I was still green and innocent as hell but I'd soon learn. So I started arguing with myself I'd rather be green and innocent than a cold blooded killer. I should have tried and stopped me there and then, I deserve to be in prison murder is still murder after all even if it is for a good cause but I must have seen me move and before I could stop myself I changed into a rat and was scurrying away into the air vents. That would have been the end of it but a couple of weeks later I got a letter through the mail containing some computer thing with a note saying I should read it and then destroy it. The note was in my hand writing but can I trust someone who knows me better than I know myself? How do you even use this thing anyway? Who can I trust to ask knowing that any one of them could be me in disguise?

PS: I really need to find some better way to separate her from me. These pronouns are confusing the heck out of me

Capfalcon posted:

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

Well that's a tricky question. Yes, no sorta. I'm not exactly advertising who I am but I'm not hiding it either. Future me seems to have made a lot of enemies and some of them would love to strike at me in the off chance that it would hurt her in some sort of way. Don't ask me how that's supposed to work it gives me a headache just thinking about it. I mean if I really wanted to keep my identity a secret I could shape shift into a different secret identity everyday. Like if one day I wanted to catch a movie without being interrupted then yeah sure why not. But otherwise what's the point? Most of the time I just stay as I am because life's easier that way. I did go through a phase of trying to look prettier when I was younger but that attracts the wrong kind of attention and well... it didn't end well. Eventually they're going to see you warts and all and you can't keep that pretty face up forever.

Cat of Wealth and Taste

Man you run fast! But- hah! I totally caught you!

What do you mean you let me catch you? Wait, are you a reporter or a ninja? BOTH?! That's not fair! Oh, you thought of some more questions? Sure!

What monster hunting skill can your little sister always outdo you in?

Oh come on, that's a cheap shot. I'm not answering that! Wait wait, don't go! Ugh, ok! But this is just between us. Nica is basically a wizard with alchemy stuff. Oh that's "chemistry" to normal people. She's probably getting a full scholarship on it. And yes, that's incredibly important to monster hunting because half the monsters are only allergic to very specific compounds and if you haven't got them then whatever you're fighting is going to eat you. I'm not bad at it, I can recognize the major elements and mix up the basics out of most household goods too, but I swear if you leave Nica alone in a grocery store she can take out an entire horde of monsters with the contents of the shampoo aisle. She's that good.

I'm more physical when it comes to the hunting side of things, I like to get some punches in you know? Not her, she's all about setting traps and staying her distance. She's not officially a member of the Order yet though. She's only fourteen, so she has two more years before she gets her own crossbow. It's pretty much a given that she'll be amazing though.

Can you believe she charges me half my allowance for a bag of citrus grenades? What are those? Here, catch! Smells like a grapefruit right? If I pull the pin on that, you won't be able to smell anything BUT grapefruit for like a week. REALLY messes with anything that relies on smell, and it doesn't hurt humans. Great for any kind of shapeshifter and most other monsters too. Even vampires hate it, but I don't know why. Maybe it reminds them of sunshine, or maybe it's just that potent.

What's the last (and only?) big monster you bagged? What was disappointing about it?

Alright now we're talking! Wait, disappointing? Why would it be disappointing? I mean... okay... so it was a giant rat. Well, six giant rats, with their tails tied together. They call it a 'rat king'. It's like, basically a giant rat horde that eats whatever you put in front of it, and causes diseases and stuff. And it was hanging out by the water reservoir. Which is NOT a good place for giant disease causing rat monsters to hang out, for obvious reasons.

It's just I mean... Giant rats. In the sewer. Ugh. It's totally invincible when it's all tied together too, it just regenerates if you kill one of the rats in the chain, so first I had to hack it all apart and it was a huge mess, and I ran out of fire bolts halfway through, and the acid bolts weren't even doing anything, and I started to think, drat I really wish I had a knife right about now, but of course I forgot it at home and... long story short: it's real dead and no one needs to worry about it anymore. I had to get a new cape made because mine was Just Gross at the end of THAT.

So yeah. Don't forget your knife if you're going to fight rat kings. That's my advice. And I've fought a lot of nasty stuff! So you take that sneaky 'only' and you erase it, drat it.

When was the last time you didn't live up to the standards of the Order? What happened?

...wow you're kind of a jerk, for a reporter. And nosy. I mean, reporters are supposed to be nosy, but they don't have to be jerks.

Alright, I can handle the tough questions! Dirty laundry airing time. When I was thirteen I ran away from home. I got into this big fight with my Mom, because... well, I was a stupid kid and I wanted to know who my Dad was. Yeah, it's that simple. Mom always pretends she doesn't know who he is, but I think she's been lying to me about it my whole life. So I ran away. First I ran to my grandparents house, which isn't that far, and I demanded to know from them. But they wouldn't tell me either. So I yelled 'gently caress the Order' really loud and threw my sun/moon medallion in their trash can on the way out. I got on my bike and just started to pedal until I couldn't feel my legs anymore. And then I got off the bike and I just started walking, and I didn't care where I ended up because it felt like nothing mattered.

I was still walking a couple days later. I'd found some train tracks that led off into nowhere, out of the city, away from my whole life, and good riddance to all of it, the responsibilities, and the mantle that I was terrified of, the monsters and the alchemy, and the stupid blue outfit. I didn't want any of it.

Night Hunter found me, eventually. I'd run out of cookies and water bottles and I was just sitting there on the tracks. She found me and she tore her goggles off and dropped her crossbow and she jumped me and we tumbled over each other's heads and she was just MOM again. She was crying, and I was crying, and she said she was sorry, but there were reasons she couldn't tell me, that it was something important, and one day when I was old enough, when it was safe, she promised she would. And she gave me my medallion back, and I put it on and we went home.

So yeah... I guess that's probably the one time I really gave up on the Order, and everything it was about.

What's so bad about Dracula, anyway? Like what do you really think about him, not what the Order's taught you.

OH MY GOD, YOU'RE A VAMPIRE SYMPATHIZER. Now some of these questions make sense!

Hah, just teasing. Dracula though, he's... hm. I mean, you're asking me for the truth and not just the company line. I don't think anyone's ever asked me like that before, so I guess I can tell you. Now... Don't laugh, but I have actually met Dracula. I know. It's crazy. Dude's like, ancient and powerful and totally terrifying. Have you SEEN that armor? But... I don't know. It was weird. Maybe I should just tell you the story.

So, I told you that my Mom's been going after Dracula forever, right? Ever since the grandparents took on Bathory. She's managed to find his castle a few times, even raided it once or twice, and run into the big D himself, but she's never defeated him. Thing is, he's never managed to catch her either. When she's in full Night Hunter mode, mom is kind of a badass. One day I'm gonna be that badass, but I digress. So, one night, when me and Nica were just little kids, Dracula kidnapped us.

Yeah. He took us back to the secret castle and everything. It was freaking awesome. There were ancient suits of armor and swords and giant ghost wolves and skeleton soldiers and I could go on about this all night. You can probably guess that he didn't eat us by the fact that I'm still standing here, which is why I say it's weird. Because I think he was going to. Like, he had one of us in each giant armored fist, and he just looked at us, and I was like SIX okay so I was crying, and Nica was four and she was crying, and then he just looks us in the eyes like he's peering right into our little kid souls and then he starts laughing, like, laughing fit to burst, it was TERRIFYING, and then he sat down on his giant gold throne made of gilded dragon bones and put one of us on each knee and bounced Nica until she stopped crying. And I was the older brother so I had to stop crying if she did, and then MOM showed up and Dracula... well he just smiled and gave us back. And Mom didn't fight him. He said something to her, but I can't remember what it was. I was really little, and I was too scared, so I just don't remember, but...

I keep wanting to ask her what he said, but I don't know if she'd tell me. It didn't stop her from trying to kill him, if anything I think it made her even more determined, but I really wish I could remember what he said. When I think about it hard enough I think he said a name. Might have been... Adam? Who's Adam?

Do you have a secret identity?

My name's Matthew. Good luck trying to find me out by that one. But I mean, kinda sorta, I guess? People who know me know about it, not just family but friends of the family and yeah, some enemies too. I'm not really hiding it. But it's not common knowledge and none of the hunters in my family have ever made their names public so I don't think it'd be easy to find out.

I'm pretty sure some of the kids at school know (or could guess) that I do hero work, (seriously, these abs) but it's not something I've ever talked about and they wouldn't know which cape I work under. I don't want to be famous when I'm not Silver Bolt, and honestly I'm not sure I want Silver Bolt to be that famous either, but it's going to come with the territory since I'll be in the Super League soon. Little bit scared of what'll happen then. I'm not used to 'public scrutiny'. I'll try to be a good example though. Someone to look up to. I want to be that, anyway.

Extra-Terrestrial Terror Threat Examination Log 33XB, Date X-X-XX02 URGENT UPDATE XX17 posted:

*This Log is for Authorized ETTTE agents of Purple-Level or Higher ONLY. Lower ranking agents caught breaking into higher rated files will have their minds wiped and blacklisted from ETTTE and all related government programs. You will be reassigned as a farmer in the Mid West, people*

The Pan-Galactic Hegemony is a space faring Empire currently estimated to inhabit two hundred star systems within the Milky Way. Little to no contact has been made with this so called Hegemony, the little we know is summarized in the document below. Threat Assessment is continually updating, but they are at current rated as an Earth-Shattering level threat, should they move against the Earth. Thus far they have made no overt hostile actions towards us. Assessment now Star-Cracker level.

The PGH, as they have been translated by the ETTTE, were first encountered accidentally, as our father organization approached unrelated aliens operating in nearby solar system REDACTED. A ten year delay in communications caused difficulties in constant communication, as we sent periodic updates to each other, finding little to no operational hazard in sending political updates on such a delay. Communication with the redacted system continued for thirty years, before suddenly ceasing for a period of three years. In the year redacted their first message began again, telling us of their entry into the wondrous Pan-Galactic Hegemony, and sending invitations for Earth's own addition to an empire spanning six thousand stars. Communication was swiftly cut off as the forbearing organization deemed continued connection a risk. Messages continued to arrive for approximately five years, before ending. This event caused the creation of ETTTE as we know it.

A satellite of unknown make emitting unknown signal was destroyed in the year XX73, by former hero Star-Borne on orders from the US Government, advised by ETTTE. Wreckage was distinctively biological in make, with no obvious machinery among the recovered wreckage. Signal was later decrypted as a hyper-pitch that sent sound along the visible spectrum of light. When translated, the message simply read, "The Hegemony wishes to welcome you." Star-Borne put on patrol for 1 year's time to ensure no further incursion from outside the system, under cover of 'touring the solar system'. No further contact for ten years.

First message since previous cessation arrived, announcing the arrival of a craft of non-hostile, unarmed civilians in the following year. ETTTE preparations included staffing of secret orbital space station, and broadcasting docking instructions. The first aliens ever encountered in person arrived in system Christmas Day, year XX83. An eclectic mix that claimed to be of several different worlds, but members of the Hegemony, they not only spoke English, but thirty eight other Earth-based languages between their numbers. Information taken from them scattered, as they discussed the utopia of the Hegemony, where 'all beings are equal' and 'there exists no want'. Gifts of mysterious - biological - creations were given, before these envoys left. ETTTE procedure had these devices summarily dissected. No information on what they did or how they were made was found. Space ship used also visibly 'pulsing' as if a heart beating.

Complete silence. No update on the PGH for period of 12 years. No Extra-Terrestrial Contact.

Urgent Update: Year XX07. It's gone. A star is gone. We have been tracking an interstellar war between two factions, one previous unencountered and one recognized as the 'Pan-Galactic Hegemony', shots originally appearing from unknown entity. Entity known as the PGH noted to be losing war for period of approximately three Earth years, deep space scans showing continual attacks on their rim worlds by unknown enemy empire. Sudden flare in all readings, causing world wide blackout spanning three minutes. Approximately twelve hours past blackout, deep space scans show complete loss of readings around unknown empire's presumed core system - complete cessation of stellar activity. No residual radiation.

Year XX08. ETTTE ramping up Extra-Terrestrial countermeasures, as the PGH appears to have absorbed the remnants of enemy empire without further resistance.

URGENT UPDATE, XX17 A woman, girl - thing has arrived on Earth. We don't know how it snuck past all of our sensors, but a craft of Hegemony make has landed at Super League HQ, bypassing all defense systems created by the ETTTE. Response thus far unknown. Revelation of Extra-Terrestrial Empires to general public expected soon. Hold on to your asses, Agents, and get ready for worst case scenarios.

Lunaria, Crown Princess of the Risheed Lineage, Envoy of the PGH

Greetings, people of Earth! I am Lunaria Shiki Melide Qunarias Jeshen Risheed, Crown Princess, of the Risheed Lineage, the Emperors of the Pan-Galactic Hegemony, and I am here to create pleasurable sensations, and wonderific connections, between my great home, and the people of Earth! I come singular in being, and have studied much of what your 'people' are like in the past months of travel, as I watched your timeless classics, such as 'Abarenbo Shogun', and the 'Romance of Three Kingdoms', as well as wonders such as 'I Dream of Jeannie', which show the various powers of the human race! It is a fantabulous glornak to be able to be your envoy, and to meet the greats of your greats!

This interstellar year marks my Meunbak Ceremony, and as my chosen task to enter Bak-hood and leave behind the trappings of my Meun life was to learn of and create harmonious pleasure sensations for our two entities, in hopes that when I am crowned I might invite your splendificklyful planet into our group-home-relations that makes up the Hegemony! To do so, I chose to emulate the greatest among you, approaching the 'League of Superior' to aid in solving the problems that plague your world, the threats of your criminals, and show that not only do we care, we blorkar for the people of Earth. My father believes your people hate us, and wishes me to abandon this mission, but I have entered my Meunbak, and refuse to abandon my task. It is my personal hope that I shall learn more of the 'Earthstyle', your strengths, and your guardings, so that I might spread further info and illuminate mysteries, and cease ideas of hostility! As such, I shall inform the League of Superior of my people as well!

I am of the Xebak-Librek race, one of several hundred species within the Pan-Galactic Hegemony. My peoples own talents include an innate mentalemotion connection, by which we can communicate desires, fears, and all things, without need for speech. This connection can be learned to be harnessed by other species, but requires much studying and is a discipline people take years to master! As such I expect to rarely use this with humans, of course! We also possess no 'true form', as many aliens do - we are a shapeless race, able to take on the characteristics of any creature - or of non creatures, in many cases! This is incredibly useful, as you might imagine, as it allows us to regenerate from near any injury, so long as... well, I should hope to not need to explain what would kill me.

Those of the Risheed bloodline, such as myself, my twenty seven siblings, and my father, have a natural pleasurable aura, that causes much haplir in those whom see us. The 'blood of rulers', as it is known, draws towards us, and enhances peoples desire to remain with us. It is proof of our right to rule, and quite haplir for me to have, as speedliness of connection-trust builds. The Hegemony also does not use 'technology' as yours, instead the Xebak-Mintek, of which my Mother is, grow great lifkaiy, which interface with living beings of any race, and allow speedliness of learning to use! Included is my trusty Hak-Lar craft. Built only for Xebak-Libreks of the Risheed bloodline, my Hak-Lar craft allows me to fully fuse into it, creating powerful hadiip.

The Hegemony consists of seven hundred and eighty three species, spanning multiple galaxies, and many, many star systems. We believe that all people have their right to happiness and a life free of want - and that so long as one works, they should receive their just due, and live a happy life. This is what we wish for Earth as well! Your system is quite splendific, and would make lovely additions, and would be much loved, yes?

quote:

Which hero sponsored you for this team and what did you do to get their attention?

The supgreat hero Patriot Prime. He is what my people would call a Mui-Kar. One whom carries the spirit of their home, and represents their people, as hero of the Hegemony. He does this well! And is very kind and good! He says 'America was founded to welcome people of all stripes, be they aliens of country or of planet!' He says he wishes for me to see the best of Earth and its people, and hopes that I will find a home here, as I too wish within my yuial.

quote:

What's an interesting place in town?

Ah! This is the 'High School', known as 'Mayal'. It is a place of much learning, where young humans enter for hours at a time, and then proceed to make friends and enemies and learn of history arts and more! It is quite interesting! I have snuck in a few times, to hear of earth history. For instance, did you know that at one point, animals were the cognizant form of life on Earth, and humans absent? They attempted to live in harmony, under great teachings of equality and sharing with all while working for all, but were lead astray by a greedy pig! It is so interesting, I would never have known of such a period of time! It must have been many eons ago!

quote:

Who's an interesting non-hero in town?

Ah! There is a human girl I like! Her name is 'Serenity', and her parents are what they call 'hippies', which from my knowledge of English means they are 'cool'. She creates her own clothing, and grows a flower garden, and is very kind to all people! I have spoken to her many times, in form of a human, and she is ever nice, no matter what kind of human I look like. I enjoy her presence, and it speaks much greatness that this world has those like her!

quote:

(optional) What are you doing in the show's intro credits montage?

The montage pans out suddenly to the sky, where a star falls - it zooms in, to reveal me, riding my Hak-Lar!

Moves
Belong in Two Worlds:
You have the resources that come with your station. Whenever you contact your people, roll + Superior. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 2. On a miss, hold 1, but your people make an uncomfortable demand of you. Spend your hold 1 for 1 to:

- receive a useful piece of alien technology that will allow you to use any ability from another playbook once.
- consult your people’s knowledge to ask the GM a question about the current situation
- clear a condition through the comfort of contact with your home

Alien Tech
:
When you alter a human device with your alien technology, roll + Freak. On a hit, you create a device that can do something impossible once and then fizzle. When you roll a 10+, choose one:

- it works exceptionally well
- you get an additional use out of it

On a miss, the device works, but it has a completely unintended side effect that the GM will reveal when you use it.

Kirby Craft
You have a vehicle, something from your home. Detail its look, and choose two strengths and two weaknesses. When you are flying your ship, you can use it to unleash your powers, directly engage a threat, or defend someone using Superior.

Strengths: powerful weaponry, regenerating,
Weaknesses: susceptible to anti-biological, easily detectable

Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

So... you don't talk a lot, huh? What's something that you're obsessive about that isn't related to Kaku in the slightest?
Do you think this affection you have for Kaku is genuinely shared, or are you just a particularly useful tool that needs to be shaped and sharpened?
Do any of the tricks really work on you? Mirrors, Rooster's call, peach wood, etc?
Also, just a general rundown of what's a day in the life look like for you?

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?

Li reanimated brain makes her a bit of a poor conversationalist. She's slow to react to things she isn't already expecting, and doesn't really have any social sense to guide her. Things like tracking an opponent she already expects to be dodging she finds quite simple. The ferocity she can summon in battle is a far cry from her typical cheerful dim witted nature. This has played out with her friend Yue, who introduced her to fighting games. When having time to kill Li looks up frame data and every other mechanic she can memorize to ensure she has no surprises when playing. She becomes wholly absorbed in the match as it happens, and will not realize she's being talked to even when it is the other player next to her. Yue has convinced Li to start entering tournaments. There hasn't been any nearby yet so Li hasn't made a name for herself on the scene, but has been quite the terror online and her handle has gotten some notice.

Li believes wholeheartedly that Kaku's affection is genuine. And it is, but that doesn't mean that Li isn't considered a tool. If ever questioned about the unequal nature of their relationship, or something similar, Li would adamantly recount the one time in Liang. Li was ambushed during a patrol. Upon finding out Kaku set out to chastise the villain immediately for bullying her precious jiangshi. When they engaged in battle Kaku employed the strategy she had been perfecting... summoning Li as a human shield and resummon her whenever she got knocked out of the fight.

The spell which animates Li isn't the stock Jiangshi spell, as she is an amalgamation. As such she has some differences from the classic stiff corpses of yore. The binding power of black inked thread is used to keep her bits together. Her acupuncture points are a complete mess, making jujube seeds useless. She is greatly unsettled by her own reflection like other jianshi. The Ba gua sign and other Daoist symbols can disrupt the spell. Fire is already a great hazard but it is even worse for Li as it will likely destroy the threads. Li sustains herself off flesh to replenish her bodymass. Consuming meat raw or not in enough quantity will fill out any holes in her body. Without Kaku to replenish the spell Li would also need to absorb Qi.

Li doesn't sleep, but can induce a coma which works as a low power sleep mode for the spell animating her. At the crack of dawn Li ends the spell and begins chores. She will continue this until someone gives her a reason to stop or the entire base is cleaned. When the chores are done she would probably just sit and wait for something to happen. Between villainy, Yue, and her team it hasn't come to that yet. With no real ambition of her own besides feeling useful Li would just let herself get strung along by others day in and out without a real plan of her own. This leaves her prone to completely dropping whatever she is doing to follow the new things presented to it. When not doing anything she defaults to her fighting games, and her instinct to be active beyond spending a whole day in front of the tv is slowly expanding.

Li doesn't have a secret identity, having no life before being involved with super heroes and not yet a concept of things she needs to shelter from her work. If a super hero name was suggested to her she would probably take it regardless of what it was.

When's the last time you hosed up on camera or in front of an audience? How'd you get in back in your audience's good graces?

Fallout Boy

Oh, well this one's easy - again, should've done some basic background on me. Sad to say there's clips of what I'm about to describe floating around on the internet - it went viral for about three days, then luckily for me it died out. Basically though, know how some villains are irritatingly focused? Like, they've got a gimmick and it sucks, but they're sticking to it and they get really awesome at it? Yeah, lost to one of THOSE guys.

loving Fallout Boy. Wasteland Survivor Tech and a Max Max fetish seems like a crap powerset, but like... OK, I'll admit it, he got me good. I showed up, did my usual thing - dramatic entrance, transformation sequence, shouting my attack name - and then he shot me in the chest with a beanbag gun, and the drat beanbag was teflon reinforced so I couldn't burn it up in time. I end up getting hit dead center in the chest - which super, super hurt - and down I went, I don't even remember doing it. While people have told me it looks hilarious to see me be so dramatic and assured, only to go down like that, is hilarious... yeah, I don't see it.

I knew I was in trouble when my Twitter started to lose followers. That's... yeah, no reason for people to EVER unsubscribe from me, that's straight up cruel of them. Knowing I needed to fix things, I cyberstalked the hell out of this guy. Listen, I'm not bad with a computer - used to use them all the time, until I became an awesome and super hot hero and now I have better things to do. Anyways, found out where he lives, and - while it's not the greatest thing I've ever done - I ambushed him after he got him late one night. Guess he'd robbed a bank or something, but lugging all that cash home was tiring. I even set my cellphone up ahead of time to get a really great angle on the confrontation, and yeah - he was no match for my Flames with no time to react. Guess who won the fight? Hint, it was me, and my fans LOVED seeing me effortlessly defeat him and get revenge. Even got a few of my more persistent trolls to admit it was awesome, and those fuckers haaaate me for being a hot girl, so that's saying something. Hope he enjoys prison as much as I enjoy the twenty percent bump in viewers that video got over my usual ones!

Who actually knows that you were... uh... let's be generous and say a bit of a dweeb before you got your powers?
No comment - next question!

Well, my parents obviously - though I don't talk to them much anymore. They always just held me back, tried to get me to be a "normal kid." Why bother being normal now that I'm famous? I'm like, on the Junior Super League - that's basically the Actual Super League! And it's entirely because I didn't listen to them, didn't let them hold me back, that I trusted in myself and ignored the haters. Bet they think I'll support 'em too, or buy a new house or pay for them to go to Disneyland or whatever other things celebrities do for their loved ones. Jokes on them though, and it's about time - it was on me for sixteen years, now it's their turn.

Oh, and I had a few friends back in the day, but they're not important to me. They were actual dorks, unlike me... since unlike them I actually went out and got powers, I didn't just talk about it. Plus I'm way hotter and confident now, I bet they don't recognize me, so I don't have to worry about them leaking my identity to the press. Marida Dash knows my identity too, but she's cool and way too professional to try and mess with me.

Which hero did you look up to that didn't make it out of the Dimensional Crisis?

Gold Standard

Awww... poor Gold Standard. Kid was a regular Boy Scout - and I mean that literally. He was seventeen, and it's some insanely obscure trivia that he literally went by Boy Scout when he first started his hero career. Anyways, he was the Best. Not as far as fame goes, obviously, since otherwise you'd have known that Boy Scout trivia... but in the ways that heroes are supposed to. He cared about people, protected them, didn't seek vengeance or get mad or hurt others. He just, I dunno, made people feel like the best in themselves. Lots of the heroes on the Super League have made some questionable calls over the years, not that they'd ever admit it, but he never did. He was like a knight out of stories, but real, and making a difference. I even made a poster of him back in the day, since you couldn't even find any online, I totally tried first.

Sadly he was terrible at marketing though - his name made him sound like some crazy libertarian, plus no one ever heard of his heroics since he never accepted rewards or appeared in public or interviews. And yeah, he also died, so that sucks too. Like, a lot. I have NO idea who killed him, or even how - between you and me, his light magic was way cooler than my fire power - but I would definitely like to know. By which I mean... listen, I know I never met him, even though I tried to get myself kidnapped once so he'd come rescue me, it didn't work out and I wasted a lot of hours but anyways, I looked up to him. He was only two years older than me, and there's no statues to him like he deserves, or medals, or even justice for what happened. And I'll set all that stuff right one day if I can.

... right after I get super famous and rich, of course. I learned from his mistakes. Better to live famously than die ignominiously. No way there's NOT going to be a solid gold statue of me when I eventually kick the bucket at the very least, and that'll be a real Gold Standard.

Do you have anything you want that the fame and respect get you, or are they an end to themselves?
Other than money and freedom? Not really, and those are part and parcel of fame - especially for heroes. Who wants to sign some D-Lister from Des Moines when they can go with the hot mage blasting down doors on Halcyon's Main Street?

And what's wrong with wanting to be famous? Know how many known non-famous people there have been? Who cares?! But there's also people that like, literally EVERYONE knows. Hell, there's people famous enough to get used as expressions and idioms, people even my parents have heard of. I want to be one of those people. I want stories about me, I want kids telling their parents they want to be me one day, I want to hear screaming crowds doting on my every word - I want the world to appreciate me, to know that I matter and will always matter, and that I made as big a difference to people as a hero as heroes have made to me... so long as it doesn't get me killed.

EVERYONE, just to be clear, do you actually have a secret identity? Why or why not? If yes, who knows?
I do have a secret identity, as a matter of fact - all the good heroes have them, it's a style thing if anything. Juggling two identities shows you're a professional, that you're at the hero thing fulltime by not being at it full time, I dunno but it's what everyone does so I'm following along. As far as the world - by which I mean the viewers of my various social media channels - knows, I'm Flaire Full Time. And my classmates just think of me as Elyse, the girl that suddenly became incredibly hot after she switched schools and never seems to have time for anyone else or invites them over to her house. Keeping those worlds seperate doesn't really matter - if anything I'd love to brag at school - but messing it up would get me looked down on, so I put a ton of work into keeping those the two Venn Diagram Circles of my life wholly separated. As for who knows? My parents definitely do. Marida does as well.

Barracuda, the Janus
What makes your boyfriend such a big Baracuda fan? What made him suspicious you're holding out on information about her?

K, so I thought his reason was because of her -my- butt. Like, that suit leaves nothing to the imagination there. I don't really mind because I feel drat sexy in it, and if it distracts people I'm fighting a bit so much the better. But it seemed like the obvious reason, he's a football playing guy, and we've never done more than kiss, so of course when he started going on about Barracuda I figured it was sex appeal. But after a bit, I think I'm wrong. I doubt it doesn't play a part, but he mainly talks about how great it is that she tries to focus on people who are taking advantage of the poorer population of Halcyon City, and that it was about time someone tried to take on the corruption in the city. It's... a bit confusing honestly.

I always assumed he was a chip off his dad's block, and one day he'd be mayoring it up and making piles of illegal money off of whatever it is his Dad does exactly. But he seems really genuine about it, so I'm starting to think he doesn't know how his dad keeps getting reelected or where all his money is coming from. Or he's a really good actor. Which wouldn't be odd, since the mayor is as well. As for why he's suspicious about me and her, Barracuda is one of the only topics we both really like to talk about, so our conversations about me are a lot more enthusiastic. And one day I made a mistake and mentioned my energy absorption ability, which hadn't actually be reported anywhere yet, even on the fan sites. I managed to play it off as a rumor I'd heard, and then made a big show of repeatedly absorbing things in the next fight in front of some witnesses, so it became common knowledge, but every so often I see him looking at me with the look on his face that means he's thinking really hard about something.

Who else is on the student council with you? Who are you great friends with? Who's an awful person you never want to see again?

Well there's me, the president. Then Andy the vice-president, Tomas the secretary, Hannah the treasurer, Richard the gopher, and the class representatives. Yes, Gopher is a real position. This is an old school, very 'high class' and 'traditional' which basically means we treat a lot of other students, especially the poorer ones, like garbage. I'm still not sure why anyone would run to be the Gopher, but I guess 'on the student council' looks good on a college application. Basically it's his job to make and pour tea, fetch things, adjust the curtains in the room or buy us pizza if we feel hungry. He's alright.

Hannah is one of my best friends, she's the only one at school I ever really felt comfortable around the last few years as my life wore away. We've been in the same class almost every year, just by chance, and she used to be incredibly shy. But I got her to open up and now she's managed to get to be treasurer! I'm really proud of her, she's made a lot more progress in being happy with her life than I have. Though it probably helps her parents just want her to be happy and don't care if she's the valedictorian and a Mozart master or any of that stuff.

Tomas is the absolute worst. He's just. Ugh. He's the only one who really treats Richard badly, everyone else just feels sort of awkward that we have a Gopher, and is always nice when they ask for things. But Tomas orders him around all the time, complains about anything he can, and just generally abuses his power as much as possible. He doesn't even limit it to Richard, he acts like king of the school just because his family is almost as rich as mine and makes huge donations to school -they're the reason we have a new pool and a new football arena. And to make it worse he's friends with Casey, though he doesn't act as bad around him, so I have to hang out with him outside of student council meetings sometimes.

What kind of music do you REALLY like? Who introduced you to it, and why do you parents want you to spend less (read: no) time with them?

Oh, you picked up on that? Yeah, classical music can go sit on a shelf getting dusty and rotting. It sounds impressive... the first time you hear it. And it's basically all the same. No... real music is punk rock or grunge. I mean, have you heard anything by Nirvana? Those songs have actually good, catchy tunes, and real meaning to them. What does Mozart's Symphony No. 40 mean? Nothing. But Rape Me? That music has a message and it has power.

Annie got my listening to it, I was at her house one day -I told my parents I was studying at the library- and she put them on, and I was hooked in seconds. She's my best friend, better than Hannah even, but we don't have any of the same classes. I'm in the advanced placement courses, and have been the entire time, but she's in the standard classes, which basically means she either isn't white or rich -in her case, both. I met her because we both were in band together, until my parents pulled me out to take private lessons from a tutor instead. But we'd connected there, so we kept in touch, hung out at lunch when I could. I think that was the original reason they pulled me, was because I was getting close with her.

Annie

Why don't they want me spending time with her? Well, looking past the obvious reason, she's poor, she doesn't live in our neighborhood, her parents go to the wrong kind of church, and it's probably her fault I don't agree with my parents views. It's hard to be a bigot when you grow up friends with someone who has none of your advantages, and you can see it, see how people treat the two of you differently for no good reason. I'm sure they blame her for everything about me that's unsatisfactory.

What are you thinking about doing after school, aside from marrying Casey (...or, you know, not?)

Hahaha not. As soon as I have access to my youth investment accounts I'm out of here.

As much as it frustrates me now, I do have a talent for music. I'd like to start a band, playing stuff I actually like. I think I could make it if I found some other people with the same talent. As long as it doesn't get in the way of me going out with my mask on at night. That's what I really like. Actually... Maybe I could go into Professional Super Fighting. Since with my powers I couldn't do regular stuff, but the powered leagues have been growing in popularity, and I could really let loose against some of the people there.

Lunaria, Crown Princess of the Risheed Lineage, Envoy of the PGH... the Outsider
Who's someone in the League that doesn't seem to understand how great the Pan-Galactic Hegemony? How are you going to prove it to them?

There's one member of the League who really explicitly just doesn't seem to like the Hegemony, named Star-Borne. He's apparently a like, legacy hero, whose father was a hero, and his kid's also a hero, and their powers are passed down, like kli-nah, despite one partner? And I dunno why he doesn't like me, but he just was like, when I was explaining how large we are, he claimed the League should stop us?? And I don't understand why! I understand that change is hard, but we have not hurt him, or anyone who did not bring it upon themselves.... I hope to prove that we are genuine, with my helpfuling!

quote:

What's an Earth custom that you find delightful? Distasteful?

Ah! I am a big fan of what you call 'dancing'. We do not dance, in the Hegemony, often. There are some shows, made by turning into what your feelings and basic urges wish to show you, that are like dancing, that only my people can do. But it is still not the same. The idea of flailing your arms around in odd patterns to match music is interesting. I would certainly like to teach my siblings these 'dances'. We could improve them, with our freedom of shapes, I am sure!

Oh, and clothes - clothes are disgusting. So, you pull hair off something, or pick plants, and you've got a bunch of gross dead hair and plants and stuff, and like, muytclak it together, and bam, now I'm going to wear this, all the time, while it rots away and falls apart, which is like, eew. Like, why haven't humans figured out shape changing bio-outfits yet? It's so much better to just have a nice outfit that can clean itself, will last your whole life, never will get ruined, golish.

quote:

What happened last time you tried to pass as human that makes you think you've got a lot to learn before you can pass?

Ah! Yes! Well! I attempted to infiltrate this 'school', and had gotten through half of my day when I suddenly was confronted with the idea of a 'physical education' class. It was a simple show of muscle, and as such I chose that when we played this earth game of touching inflated rubberized balls, that we then had to throw at each other, I would show off my physical ability and great power. It turns out the average human can, in fact, have their nose broken by even a small rubber ball, if thrown hard enough. And that being able to throw them hard enough to do that is an oddity, especially in a 'girl'. I had assumed in my time with these 'superior league' people that all humans had some form of great strength, speed, or similar.

It... turns out I may have been mistaken.

quote:

Which "villain" that you have come across had a motive that did not make any sense to you?

Ah! Madam Lightning, yes! She is, so she claims, the master of electricity, who created her own Hak-Lar craft that wielded the power of lightning. Including great speed and destructive power! And yet, her idea for why she should rob banks was that her invention should make her rich. And I know little of Earth, but even I know that such an object could be sold to attain such, without attracting attention, no? I do not see why a great mind would be attracted to crime, when they could be greatly rewarded for productive enterprise. Such a Hak-Lar would be wonderful, even in my own home!

The desire for wealth is truly puzzling for all villains, if truth may be said. I do not see why a system by which one can be pushed to kill others to acquire this 'wealth' is still in place, for so many hundreds of years. Is not a system that prevents such desire and violence not more perfect a system? I do not see why they force each other to compete for their scraps, when they could simply share and be free of such petty crimes.

I have many secret names, because I am many people, yes! But no, Lunaria is simply who I am, and I keep no long term varrs besides my usual guise, they are simply discarded when unneeded. I see no reason to hide who I am.
