Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine: The Codex Astartes Pop-Up Book

The Games Workshop franchise of Warhammer 40,000 is a crazy mish-mash of ideas, monsters, aliens, heroes and villains all headbutting each other in a setting that happily embraces the terms grim and dark like they were its childhood toys. The rule of cool is cranked to the maximum and every day someone is trying to think of a way to turn that crank even further without making everything explode (too much), and nothing typifies this over the top slam jam of ideas quite like a Space Marine.

Bigger than an average human and stuffed to the cheeks with a mess of extra organs that let them do anything from spit poison to eat your memories, the Space Marine of 40K is a giant clad in high tech wargear that conjures up images of old armoured knights. In one hand is a gun that shoots bullets that explode, in the other is a sword that is a chainsaw, and in front of them are insurmountable numbers of foes that are horrifying and ridiculous in equal measure. It is generally expected that the Space Marine will beat these things rather horribly as well.

In 2011 THQ published Space Marine with development of the game done by Relic Entertainment, those fine fellows that also made the Dawn of War series of Real Time Strategy games. A third person action game was a bit of a departure from what Relic were known for, but I think they acquitted themselves quite well with a game that slaps you in the shoes of a heroic Space Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter and says “Go stick your pointy chainsaw stick into that green guy and watch it explode.”

I'll be playing through the game with my good buddy Coolguy along for the ride, and once we're done with the main campaign we'll sink our teeth into the fun co-op survival modes and the unfortunately dodgy as all hell multiplayer. We hope you enjoy watching, I know I'm certainly going to enjoy playing it for you.

The steam group for our multiplayer stuff related to our LPs is at this location should you wish to engage in the funs and murders.

Characters, Wargear and Foes

Characters

Captain Titus – Captain of the Ultramarines 2nd Company, Titus is a confident and quick-thinking leader willing to take great risk to ensure the job is done. As expected of his station Captain Titus is a fearsome warrior forged in countless bloody battles, and bears many scars to go with his accolades. Having ascended to this important role after only 150 years of service in the Ultramarines, Titus definitely feels the weight of his role resting heavily on his shoulders.

Sergeant Sidonus – Trusted friend and confidante to Captain Titus, the gruff Sidonus has seen, nearly been murdered by and then brutally murdered in return just about every foe that threatens the Imperium of Man. Very little surprises the veteran Ultramarine, and that coupled with his somewhat dry sense of humour helps keep his fellow battle brothers confident of victory and focused on their task at hand.

Brother Leandros – The youngest marine attached to Captain Titus' command squad, Leandros is a 'by the book' type in every facet of combat. In his mind there's little about combat that the Codex Astartes can't explain, and Leandros is never afraid to speak his mind on its writings. He carries with him the arrogance of a Space Marine that has yet to truly test himself at his limits, and seeks to prove himself to his veteran superiors.

2nd Lieutenant Mira – Part of an Imperial Guard contingent sent to the Forge World Graia in an attempt to slow the Ork invasion whilst futher reinforcements were prepared, 2nd Lieutenant Mira of the 203rd Cadian Regiment found herself in the unenviable position of being the highest ranked soldier on the ground by way of attrition. Protective of the lives of the Guardsmen left and stubbornly refusing to give up in their duty, the Lieutenant commands great respect and every soldier of the 203rd considers her a goddamn hero.

Inquisitor Drogan – As an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos Drogan spends his every waking moment investigating the alien threats that plague humanity from within and without. In the course of his work Drogan has suffered grievous wounds at the hands of a Xenos attack, and it has left him obsessed with finding a way to wipe out the alien enemies of mankind. This has led him to Forge World Graia and into contact with the Ultramarines as a result.

Wargear

Combat Knife – Standard close combat weapon of any Space Marine not occupying a command or Assault Squad position. These knives are large and unwieldy in anything but the power armoured grasp of a Space Marine, but are incredibly durable and unsurprisingly extremely lethal. Combat Knives in Space Marines have a more limited moveset than other close combat weapons.

Bolt Pistol – Standard sidearm of the Space Marine. The bolt pistol fires explosive tipped caseless rounds known as 'bolts' that detonate on contact. The explosion of a bolter round typically causes grievous fatal wounds. Bolt Pistols in Space Marine come with unlimited ammunition but a small clip.

Bolter – Otherwise known as the Boltgun or Bolt Rifle, the Bolter is the iconic ranged weapon of the Space Marine. Bolter rounds fired from this gun hit hard, fast and loud, and the sheer havoc it can cause makes for an excellent shock and awe weapon.

Chainsword – The Chainsword is iconic Warhammer 40,000 design, a sword with a spinning chain of teeth that shears through flesh. The formidable strength of a Space Marine in Power Armour makes the Chainsword work at its best, violently and loudly shearing its way through flesh and armour in equal measure.

Frag Grenades – Standard issue Imperial Frags are best used to shower large groups of lightly armoured enemies in explosively propelled shrapnel. Flexible enough to be used on both attack and defense they see plenty of use in all militant arms of the Imperium.

Stalker Bolter – There are many different variants of the Bolter design, and the Stalker Pattern is the sniper rifle equivalent that allows the shooter to punch a bolt very long distances without much loss of accuracy. It typically does not see much use due to the general view of a Space Marine that sniping is beneath them. As such it tends to see more use amongst the Sergeants that train Scout Initiates.

Vengeance Launcher – A unique pattern of grenade launcher newly created on the forge-world Graia, the Vengeance Launcher allows a Space Marine to plant small explosives that can be detonated on command. The explosion radius is smaller than a frag grenade, but Vengeance Launcher grenades can be placed on any surface or even stuck to an enemy. A total of five grenades may be placed at a time, any additional grenade planted detonates the first of the others planted.

Plasma Cannon – The Plasma technology used by the Imperium is extremely potent but extremely dangerous to the wielder of weapons that use it. The Plasma Cannon is a large variant of the weapons that fires large and relatively small moving balls of superheated death at the enemy, each shot exploding in a small radius wherever it collides. Though dangerous to do, it is possible to charge up a shot from the Plasma Cannon, resulting in a giant ball of plasma that will utterly annihilate anything unfortunate enough to touch it.

Power Axe – Power Weapons are close combat weapons that have an energy field projected about it. These power fields allow the weapons to cleave through armour as though it does not exist. The Power Axe is a fearsome weapon in the hands of a Space Marine, their augmented strength combined with the way the power field works making a mockery of the strongest of foes.

Plasma Pistol – As dangerous and unstable as Imperial plasma technology is, it is a testament to the efforts of the Mechanicus that they were able to construct a pistol-sized variant. Its shots are no less lethal than most other plasma weapons just smaller in size, and it still retains the capacity to charge a large unstable shot that sticks to an enemy for a moment before detonating in a brilliant bright blue explosion.

Melta Gun – Few weapons are as much of a testament to the technological might of the Imperium than the Melta gun, a weapon that boils the very water in the air as it performs nuclear fusion with each discharge in a size that even a Guardsman can carry. Though typically used to project a beam of it fusion energy to melt away enemy armour, small bursts of its energies are enough to burn enemy infantry into ash.

Lascannon – Few weapons in the Imperium's arsenal come close to the sheer range and stopping power of the humble Lascannon while still being usable by infantry. Armour is little proof against a single shot of the extremely powerful laser, and enemy tanks rightly fear its placement on the battlefield.

Thunder Hammer – Most power weaponry acts by projecting an energy field about the weapon to aid in the effectiveness of its attack, but not the Thunder Hammer. The hammer stores its energies within the hammer, only releasing it upon impact. The effects of this weapon on armour and flesh is devastating, and swung by a power armour clad Space Marine only serves to magnify the carnage that results.

Kraken Bolter – Kraken type Bolter Rounds are specialist armour-piercing rounds designed to help Space Marines bring down foes wearing more protective wargear. A Bolter specifically constructed to fire Kraken type rounds tends to be slightly stockier in its shape, but otherwise performs with the reliability and punch expected of any pattern of Bolter.

Plasma Gun – The Plasma Rifle sees a lot of use in Space Marine Tactical squads primarily due to its strong anti-armour potential. Few light vehicles or heavy infantry armour is proof against a rapid-fire salvo from the Plasma Gun, and should the Marine risk the catastrophic explosion that comes with overcharging the gun, a single charged plasma shot can leave nothing behind but ash.

Storm Bolter – By locking the workings of two Bolters side by side and having them fire off of one trigger the Storm Bolter unleashes a hail of bolt-fire that will tears through the enemy and wears down those who are heavier armoured. The great drawback of this weapon is its strong recoil and a loss of accuracy if fired in anything more than short bursts, to the point that it typically only sees use by Terminator Armour clad Space Marines.

Foes of the Imperium

Orks
The most prolific of alien races to threaten mankind, the Orks are built for war and don't much care for the concept of peace. They exist to fight and if there are no enemies around for them to fight they will simply turn on one another. Get enough of these war savants in one place under the brutal control of a powerful Ork Warboss and the worst fear of any other race in the galaxy comes to fruition, for the war-march known as a WAAAAAGH! is inevitable.

Gretchen – Sometimes called 'Grots' these diminutive greenskins are the labour and cannon fodder of the Ork race. Lacking the amazing constitution of their masters, the Gretchen nonetheless take to the battle for however long their lives or courage last. Both are incredibly fleeting, but the Orks don't care either way since Grots are so easily replaceable.

Slugga Boy – For these Ork Boyz there is nothing quite so satisfying as slamming a big close combat weapon into the head of an enemy. Though named after the small pistols they haul around in their free hands, the real danger of the Slugga Boy is their Choppa which for all their crudeness are extremely effective.

Shoota Boy – For some Orks there is no sound more beautiful than the 'dakka dakka' of a gun as it empties all its ammo in a matter of seconds. These Orks band together as Shoota Boyz, projecting a wall of bullets at their foes. The sheer amount of dakka flying about makes up for the extremely inaccurate fire of the Shootas, and even a Space Marine can be overwhelmed and brought down if they are not careful.

Bomb Squig – Orks are a strange breed of alien that shed fungus spores as they live, war and die. The fungus react to stimulus in the environment and the needs of the greenskins to bring forth the living resources required to keep Ork society rolling. When food , pets or beasts of burden are needed the spores can grow into Squigs, strange creatures that come in a dizzying array of types and uses. In battle Orks find it incredibly amusing to strap these hopping toothed little monsters with explosives and send them blundering off towards enemy lines.

Slugga Nob – Without direction a squad of Orks is more like a mobile pub brawl and more likely to harm itself than any enemy. To keep order and maintain focus some Orks take command by nature of being much large and more violent than their fellow boyz. Dubbed 'Nobz' these intimidating greenskins have strength that rivals an armoured Space Marine and are not to be trifled with.

Rokkit Boy – Otherwise referred to as a “Tankbusta” these Orks carry anti-armour weaponry and love nothing more than watching some big armoured vehicle explode into flames. Their typical weapons of choice are crude guns that launch wildly inaccurate rokkits with a large explosive radius. Should these rokkits ever actually hit their target they will do a significant amount of damage, and Space Marine armour is little protection against sustained explosions from a mass of wildly shooting boyz.

Skar Boy – Those boyz that have built their reputation in a close combat frenzy are called Skar Boyz on account of the numerous scars they have accumulated in their lifetime of combat. Clad in thick armour plating and carrying a sizable choppa in each hand they would be a difficult enough proposition to take down, but these boyz are capable of whipping themselves into a berserker frenzy. Overcome with battle lust, these Skar Boyz swiftly overwhelm their foes in a flurry of attacks.

Dropship – Typically Orks will get around by way of ground-based vehicles like a Trukk. A forge-world is not always easy to traverse via vehicle, particularly in areas established as defense grids by those attempting to repel the invasion. Some enterprising Mek-boy has overcome this issue with a low-flight capable Ork aircraft that moves across the battlefield disgorging Orks where they are needed. For self-defense the drop-ship carries twin-linked big-shootas, and is heavily armoured to shrug off most small-arms fire.

Ard Boy – Big and tough Orks on their way to Nob-hood are known by their Orkish brethren as being “ded 'ard”, and they augment this status by wearing tough slabs of metal on their body as armour. In the Graia invasion Warboss Grimskull has outfitted some of his tough Orks with crude riot shields that allow the Ard Boyz to advance unphased through the worst small arms fire. Once in close combat, these boyz definitely live up to their name and their shields become extremely effective weapons.

'Eavy Nob – Just as Nobz stand above regular Boyz, so too are there Ork Nobz whose size and power rises above them above their fellows. These 'Eavy Nobz are more than a match for the average Space Marine in terms of strength and combat potential, heaving huge choppas that shear through power armour like a hot knife through butter.

Combi-Ork – For an Ork that becomes obsessed with his shoota, there are no higher goals to achieve than getting a gun that looks impressive and shoots extremely loudly. For the Ork big and successful enough to gather up enough teef to get a flash looking shoota few weapons fit more than a combi-weapon, a bashed up combination of various weapons that allow the Ork to shoot ridiculously loud firepower no matter the situation.

Weirdboy – A particularly odd manifestation of the Ork, the Weirdboy is a psyker that taps into the gestalt energy of the other Orks around it. The more excited the Orks get the more power builds up, which if not released can cause widespread cranial detonation amongst the greenskins. When those powers are released however the Orks gain tremendous boons as the Weirdboy lays out great blasts of psychic energy, or teleports his kin across the battlefield to more quickly get into the fight.

Stormboy – Symptomatic of the bizarre social organisation of Orks, the Stormboyz are a collective of greenskins who have rebelled against the anarchic stylings of their society. They do this through regimented drilling and yelling “Yes sir” a lot while saluting. This rather unOrky behaviour has done little to curb their love of violence however, and Stormboyz are famed for their unstable rocket-packs that send them hurtling through the sky and into the fray.

Warboss Grimskull – An Ork Warboss is a goliath even amongst the biggest of nobs, and Grimskull towers well above his boyz with authoritative size. His strength is further augmented by bioniks, prosthetic devices of greenskin make that have replaced his arms with huge weapons designed to shoot and crush. Though able to engage at range, the sheer strength of a Warboss is in close quarters where even without augmentations most Warboss' are able to overcome a Space Marine in raw strength.

Shoota Nob (Co-op Only) – While a mass of ork shoota fire can be overwhelming, it is useless without someone to ensure the boyz are firing in the same general direction. Ork Nobs with a love of ranged combat but a continuing fondness of thumping boyz to keep them in line are no less tough than their melee counterparts, and take a lot of effort to bring down.

Killa Kan (Chaos Invasion only) – Few things are more symbolic of the effectiveness of the Ork war machine than the so-called “Killa Kan”. Through the efforts of a Paindok and a Mekboy, a lowly grot is hooked up into the metal armour of a walker unit. Where once was a cowardly greenskin slave is now a powerful armoured death-bringer, the Grot inside cackling in glee as it crushes its foes in powerful metal klaws and rends armour to scrap with a brutal big shoota.

The Forces of Chaos

Bloodletter – The Blood God Khorne loves violent conflict, and as a result his daemonic troops reflect this with their bodies and weapons. The brutal Hellblades wielded by Bloodletters make a mockery of most armours, and each one of the daemons is an accomplished swordsman in their own right. Ranged combat is almost impossible to engage these daemons in, as they seem to blur around the shots as they close the distance to Khorne's favoured range.

Traitor Guard – Not all soldiers trained in the Imperial Guard stay loyal. There are many reasons why Guardsmen may turn traitor, but the end result is a well-trained soldier embittered against the Emperor's rule and well equipped to fight. No single soldier is a match for a Space Marine, but a well co-ordinated squad is more than capable of such a feat.

Chaos Space Marine Havoc – There is nothing so abhorrent to the Imperium as a traitor, and nothing quite so fearful as a Space Marine that has become a traitor. A Chaos Space Marine Havoc is one such traitor who clears the battlefield with a detached loathing for his enemies, annihilating them from long range with heavy weaponry such as Heavy Plasma guns or Lascannons.

Chaos Space Marine – Chaos Space Marines are a threat of the Imperium's own making, and even armed with standard wargear these veterans of disorder are a match for any foe. They know the moves and thoughts of a loyalist Marine, and they loathe them for everything that they used to be.

Renegade Psyker – Mankind has since even before the time of the Emperor had a strange mutation that grants certain individuals the power to tap into the flow of the warp with their mind. Due to the dangerous nature of the warp and its ties to Chaos, the Imperium actively seeks out all those gifted with psychic powers in order to either control or destroy them. The Inquisition's Black Ships cannot be everywhere however, and many psykers fall through the cracks. Those that turn to serve Chaos are dangerous conduits of raw power, and tear great holes in reality to allow servants of the Chaos Gods through.

Chaos Space Marine Champion – There are those amongst the renegade forces of Chaos who draw the attention of the Chaos gods and rise above their fellows. The Ruinous Powers reward those who fight in their names with artifacts of power or bizarre and varied mutations, and it takes a strong body and will to cope with the changes and drawbacks these boons offer. The Space Marine physiology allows them to carry these burdens easier, and eagerly strike out for more glory and power denied to them when they were loyal to the Imperium.

Chaos Drone – Daemons of Chaos can possess more than flesh in order to manifest themselves in reality. Being bound to a machine is a less than ideal fate for any daemon, and not always one that is done willingly. In this particular case the Plague Drone (as it is otherwise known) is a daemon of Nurgle, the Chaos God of Disease and Decay that is bound into a small flying combat frame that moves swiftly across the battlefield.

Lord Nemeroth – The Chaos Lord Nemeroth is a devout follower of the Chaos gods and with good reason. Through his pacts with the warp and his own means he leads a sizable force that acts in his name, and he is an accomplished sorcerer able to bind daemons of the warp to his will. Nemeroth seeks the power that lies at the end of a lone journey of worship and sacrifice, a journey very few ever complete due to the demands of the Chaos gods and the nature of their gifts. Should he be successful in his final pursuit for power Nemeroth will achieve a new form that is no longer bound by the material world. He would become a Daemon Prince, favoured champions of the warp whose acts will grow in infamy to eclipse the mortal life they have left behind.

Chaos Invasion

Warriors of the Imperium

Imperial Guardsman – When the Imperium of Man goes to war, it is typically prosecuted using the Imperial Guard. Raised from planetary tithes to be trained for galactic war, they match their typically stronger and tougher foes with numbers and firepower, and hold their ground through pure stubborn grit.

Imperial Guard Sergeant – Marked out amongst their fellow Guardsmen as leaders and fighters, Sergeants are counted on to receive and prosecute the orders of their superiors and keeping their men in the fight. Through all this they are also accomplished fighters, and meet their blades and claws of their enemies with the roar of their chainsword.

Imperial Guard Weapon Specialist – Guardsmen who display an aptitude with weaponry will be singled out for special weapons duties, to be trained in the use of weapons such as the Melta Gun or Grenade Launcher. Supporting their allies with blasts of superheated air or bombardments of frag grenades, even a Space Marine can be humbled by their actions.

Sanctioned Psyker – Though the Imperium is mistrustful of psychic power users at the best of times, the psychic threat of their foes necessitates the use of Psykers who have had their minds and powers limited in a painful act known as “sanctioning”. So it is with a lessened chance of their powers running riot, Sanctioned Psykers assist and protect the Imperial Guard against the minds of their enemies.

Space Marines – Genetically and surgically altered super-warriors, the acts of even single Space Marines are told in legends in worlds across the Imperium. Though their numbers are relatively few compared to the rest of the Imperium's forces, a Space Marine can overcome foes many times beyond them in numbers and strength. They are the Sword of the Emperor, that cleaves through the foe with a single swift strike.

Glad I'm on the ground floor for this one, this game is as close to the rulebooks as a video-game could possibly get and still be insanely fun. Titus is also the best Space Marine Captain bar none.

My biggest problem with this game is probably that they chose just about the least interesting sets of people. Orks are sort of a one joke thing, Ultramarines are boring and there's just not a massive amount of variety in enemies or weapons, given everything the source material offers. Give me some sisters of battle burning away a tide of rippers and gaunts or let me go slaughter the human children and carry their mothers back to Commorragh.

I'd like a game where you play as a platoon of guardsman. Instead of lives or checkpoints you'd just switch to the next warm body and continue onward, leaving a literal trail of corpses to your objective.

Awesome game that never got enough love. I hate seeing LP's of Warhammer games as they always give me the urge to dive back in the lore and world which is a dangerous rabbit hole.

One little note though the game audio seems a little quiet and coolguy seems a bit loud but I am listening through netbook speakers so it may just be a balance on my end problem.

There is but it involves crashing the first ship into a second one into a third one.

I think they made the choices they did just to build the foundations of the franchise. I imagine if THQ hadn't imploded the next two episodes in the trilogy (and it was planned as a trilogy) would have expanded things a bit. Going with the Space Marines was a safe and clean bet too because of franchise recognition. It's really a whole lot of "what could have been" in the end.

Coolguy is a little loud, it's just a matter of his mic settings acting up and limiting what I could fix in post-production. We considered it something we can fix in future episodes so just pretend he's REALLY excited this time.

When I saw the test post for this in the sandcastle, I realized I had never played this, so I went and installed and started it up. To my dismay, it doesn't seem to like my computer, and starts to hitch, which obvious sound stuttering when I do things like executions, or mowing down a truckload of orks.

So, you know, nothing MAJOR or anything. However, even with this problem, I'm having such a blast. I don't know much about the 40K universe, but what I do know is that goddamn, these weapons are so satisfying.

I just finished Marathoning the DoW2 LP's (they are rad go see them) so Perfect timing on this for me at least.

Playing through the way Leandros acts is interesting, I think the reason he is so Whiny and Adherent to the Codex Astartes (Basically the big book of war and tactics all space marines should know) is because he is so young, to him there is nothing the Codex wont answer, while the more older marines accept that sometimes the Rigid plans of the Codex don't work; Say when orcs actually steal your planetary Defense guns against you.

I wager that, since he's fresh off the Scouts/Novices, the hypno-indoctrination and training are still a major part of his personality. He always goes back to the Codex because the Codex is literally just about 50% (or more) of his mental processes.

Older, or stronger willed, Marines grow back a personality in time, as we can see in Titus and Sidonus, since they experience things outside the bounds of the Codex. Each experiences different things and reacts differently to them. Hence, they become individuals once more.

Of course, such experiences aren't always good for forming positive character traits, i.e. Cato Sicarus, the most arrogant Ultramarine in the history of the Chapter. In other cases, you do end up with utterly awesome and humane characters though, i.e. Marneus Calgar, current Chapter Master of the Ultramarines and according to fluff a generally cool guy (who worries that Sicarus might be able to force his way to Chapter Master if he dies), or Logan Grimnar, Great Wolf of the Space Wolves and bro-est Space Marine in the Galaxy.

To be honest, capturing the defense cannon is a pretty un-Orky thing to do. Hell, it would be more in line with "normal" Ork behaviour to strip the cannon for the shiny loot and wait for the Imperial reinforcements, since that would be a more awesome fight.

Welp it looks like I'm picking this up on Steam at the first opportunity. Played it on 360, loved it, and I'll be damned if I'm missing multiplayer shenanigans with you guys.

Wow the weapons look amazingly satisfying to use. Its actually tempting to pick up right now.

Some of them really are fun to use. As far as base weapons go the Bolter is pretty fun to use, especially if you get good at headshots. The blend of shooting and melee make a lot of the combat really fun, but you'll still end up walking backwards and shooting hoards of enemies in the head until you think the ranks somewhat because this game loves to throw dozens of enemies at you whenever possible.

I have to say that I'm feeling like restarting my old aborted playthrough from when my 360 disc got scratched to hell. Once this gets on a Steam (or equivalent) sale I'll get myself a copy.

Never assume an Ork is going to stick to the standard pattern of behavior. It's the best way to get a Kommando's speshul choppa shoved right through the back of your head.

It's a shame there weren't any Kommandos in this game. I love those crazy bastards. But I enjoyed this game a ton nonetheless; Relic are pretty much the dudes that showed me there was actual potential to do something besides flat, boring BROTHER BLOOD BLOOD BROTHER MURDER EMPEROR characters with Marines, and that's wonderful.

The biggest issue I have with this game is the complete lack of tech priests/civilians. Especially the lack of tech priests.

Seriously, wait for a Steam sale. The beginning of the game is pretty great and epic and fresh and all, but Relic's inexperience at making 3rd-person action games quickly shows through and the game will soon get quite a bit more bland.

30 bucks is okay if you really like the 40k universe or just have money to burn but everyone else is probably going to want to set their price ceiling at 20.

Yeah wait for the sale. The first parts are pretty great but the game flips on its head at one point and you have to play completely differently in a way the game doesn't support very well.

I admit my view of techpriests is colored strongly by the fact that some of the guys in my gaming group absolutely love playing as them in Dark Heresy, but yes, techpriests are wonderful and it's a shame we didn't get some of them trundling about being grumpy about machines.

Gamefly had a digital sale for all Nordic Games properties and I got this thing for like $7.50. Spring Steam Sale is coming soon, and a lot of the THQ license holders keep putting stuff on there all the time, so you probably won't have to wait long.

It's mainly in about the 3rd act when a new primarily ranged type of antagonist rears it's head, They (in my opinion) suck the fun out just because of how much damage the output, forcing you to primarily use ranged sniping.

Good to see a new lp of this game. I've tried watching the niggurath lp, but I always end up stopping about halfway in, so it's gonna be nice to follow from the beginning.

It's more that it's a forge world, and there are literally zero living tech priests.

Required by his programming!
There's zero living anything except soldiers at this time. The quirk about this Ork band is that they're smarter than the average Ork - I alluded to this briefly with how smoothly the Warboss speaks. Most likely, they're an example of the Blood Axe clan, which tends more toward cunning brutality than brutal cunning. The Warboss had a plan to dismantle this world and it went swimmingly. The fact that Mira is the most senior officer left alive is proof of that one.

Regarding my voice, yeah, skype messed with my mic when I wasn't looking. Next episode is better, but Roboky and I listened to it and decided it wasn't worth redoing everything, since I'm not blasting eardrums and I'm ok at shutting the hell up to let Roboky or the game talk.

One thing I kinda like is that if you watch Titus' face during the executions, he's got a completely neutral expression throughout. For him, this is just a normal day at the office. Ripping a giant monster's face in half with his bare hands after pinning the guy's foot to the ground with an axe is just something he's had drilled into him, really.

Except it's Orks as the initial enemy in a recent Warhammer 40k game, and between that and having a hard time believing they would use Orks as the only enemy, I wonder who's pulling their strings this time around. Could be Eldar, but a Forge World isn't the sort of thing they usually worry about. I'm guessing Chaos.

This was really an amazing game. The only thing I felt that really made it bad was just the p2p multiplayer. It was such a bad idea considering how much twitch you needed in multiplayer.
