Something to be better than just TV speakers is a really low bar. poo poo you could buy a $30 sub and satellite system to plug into the headphone jack and it'd be a vast improvement.

Both of those will blow soundbars from nearly any pricerange out of the water, and TV speakers are no contest as has been said.

No, though I'm sure there are similiar ones that do. There's also a very high chance your TV has RCA audio out which is what you would send to the amp, allowing you to use the TV volume controls.

edit: no experience with this particular amp but it has a remote, and some other playback abilities:

Stretch your budget by $60 and do this.

This amp is better than the others recommended and has remote control with optical audio input.

This will be a kick-rear end 2.0 set up for a TV. I wish I would have done this for the TV in my bedroom instead of a soundbar.

I'd argue that, unless he has a particularly large room/house party needs, the wattage is overkill and the quality gains, if any, would be minimal. The fluance are fairly sensitive speakers.

EDIT: plus for $50 more than that you can get a 5.1 50WPC marantz receiver with many times more features.

Would these handily beat a 2.1 built-in-amp computer speaker set like the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s?

Good point, edited out the price.

I work for a company that does engineering work for a very large projector manufacturer. Though most of our emphasis is on the projectors, we need an audio system that will at least come close to what our users will hear in a theater. I know Dolby ATMOS equipped theaters can have a lot more than 7 speakers, but 7.1 is good enough for our purposes. Basically I need to emulate the audio heard in a theater in our lab.

The audio processor that we'll be using is analog out, hence the HDMI/TOSLink not needed. Instead of a receiver, would an 8 channel mixer be a better option?

So you have 8 RCA outputs on your processor?

Is that handling all the preamp duties? If so, you just need a 7 channel amp and a powered sub.

Fidelity wise there is no question. The only edge the klipsch or a similarly priced 2.1 powered setup has is subwoofer for low end, but subs in that price range are generally so poor its better not having one at all.

Sweet, I'm sold. Bad idea to get the cheaper amp with the nicer speakers? I'm a poor but if it's gonna make them sound worse than the cheaper speakers or something I'll spend the extra bit.

Edit: There's a pair of what look to be paradigm atom v4s on craigslist for $80 too, not sure how those stack up.

You'd need speaker wire (just get some amazonbasics 16 gauge) and if just buying a dedicated amp (as opposed to a receiver) you need to see what kind of audio output your TV provides. Most that I have seen have a red/white RCA audio out which you simply plug into the back of the amp. Unless the amp comes with RCA cables you'd need a pair of those as well.

Is there a setup I can mount into a wall for an outdoor setup? I want something that is right near the back door that I can use to control stuff--mostly just streaming stuff from elsewhere and then driving them through outdoor speakers. The other side of the wall goes into the garage. It would get pretty hot in there and there would be bugs crawling around. Is there something that reasonably puts up with that?

Will they sound much better than the a5s? with shipping costs it's nearly the same price, and i could go pick up the a5s this afternoon.

As a general rule the discrete system will sound better for the price. The closest comparison I can make is that I've been using the similarly priced M-Audio BX5a's for years as desktop speakers and the Chanes I heard were enough of an upgrade that I'm now considering a pair as an upgrade.

Anyone with experience buying replacement remotes? My Pioneer remote has died of old age or something, and there are audio settings I can't access anymore, which drive me crazy, especially since I'm slightly hard of hearing.

I'm buying from Europe, so no US shops.

According to my manual, I either own the RCS-505H or -404H system.

I'm interested in getting a wireless, compact but decent sounding speaker for streaming in my relatively small living room, and don't really intend to expand with other speakers in other rooms. From what I've read a couple pages back and in reviews, a sonos would be Extremely My poo poo, however I unfortunately cannot easily get one where I live (think mercantilist trade barriers) nor a bunch of other options of the same kind, at a reasonable price. The one family of speakers that I could get are the Pure Jongo T2-S3-T4-T6. Anyone have experience with them and know how well they do for the sort of use I had in mind? I'd mostly use it with Spotify, I understand that would involve some extra hoops since Pure wants people to use their streaming service?

I just got my Fluance SX6s and a SMSL SA-36A PRO (2x20) amp in today. I hooked it up to my new vizio and it seems to be working decently, but I'm pretty sure I'm hearing clipping even at low to moderate volumes on simple deep dialogue. Do I need to upgrade to the SA-50 or get a 24v power adapter for this thing or something? Or is this really unlikely and my TV output just sucks?

Edit: It might have just been the show rip I was watching that was compressed poorly? I'm not sure. Loud bassy music doesn't clip, so further testing required I guess.

Edit 2: I've experienced dialogue clipping on a couple different shows on Plex (Vizio Plex Client) but I'm not sure about other sources yet. It could be due to the Plex volume boosting options which I usually have up because Plex is always quiet as poo poo.

I'm planning out where to put speakers in our basement. I've more-or-less decided on a 3.0 setup with the Polk RTi A1 side channels and CSi A4 center channel. My living room setup and planned speaker placement is like this:

The speakers are close to scale. I'll have to build extensions for the main shelf to support the side speakers. I'll also have to build a shelf for the center channel to clear the top of the TV.

The receiver (Denon AVR-S900W) will go somewhere on the shelving, probably on the left near the game consoles. If I get a sub, it would go on the carpeted floor just out of frame, but that's kind of the walking area, and there isn't a great way to route a cable down there. That might be a future expansion once I get the 3.0 setup settled.

The room is about 12 feet by 30 feet, with open passages to the rest basement just to the left and right of this image. The viewer sits about 10 feet away. The photo was taken standing on the couch.

My concerns are:

Is this a decent placement? I'm wide open to suggestions.

Is this too much speaker for this small a room? Should I downgrade to smaller speakers so they fit on my shelving better?

If I upgrade to a larger TV, there doesn't seem to be any room to place the center channel. I could attach it to the ceiling or something, but that's getting pretty obnoxious. Is there a better place I could put the center channel in this setup, possibly with a larger TV in the future?

:pirate::hf::tinfoil:

Those speakers aren't 'too much'. You want about 60 degrees between the front speakers, measured from the best seat. Regarding the center, you are running into the problem with putting a TV on the mantle -- it is just too high. Ideally, the center of the TV (and the speakers' tweeters) would be at eye/ear level when you are sitting.

It looks like you have the TV on the long wall (the 30' wall). Ideally, you would have the TV and speakers on the short wall, but you gotta do what you can with what you have.

ColdPie
Jun 9, 2006

Yeah, this is clearly the entertainment center of the basement. For better or worse, the TV's staying where it is. The setup I proposed is about 45 degrees between the fronts. I could get them out to 60. That would require building out the whole shelf instead of just joining in some triangle corner pieces., but it's definitely a plausible solution.
