Last day for the cheap Puzzler Bundle. All cosmetics, but it's 1 DBC or 10 certs. They also left double xp on all weekend (maybe because The Schnoz was broken and a bunch of folks didn't get to use it).

My bad, today's the last day for the puzzler bundle. The Schnoz was supposed to be working for April Fool's day event time but it wasn't equippable all last week during double XP. It's working now for +20% XP, but you can also put on the christmas hats that give +50% XP. The latter aren't supposed to work so your characters shows up with a bald normal head (even NSO get a normal human head), and the loadout will revert to the basic helmet on logout/continent change but it's a way to get a boost if you're doing something that gives XP.

There's a dev letter from the new owner's dev team, I guess:

https://www.planetside2.com/news/ps2-studio-update-2024

quote:

Dear Auraxians,

We are excited to announce that our team at Toadman Interactive is taking over development duties for PlanetSide 2. Our colleagues at Rogue Planet Games have created a unique gaming experience that has thrived for over a decade. We have assembled a team of developers who have many years of experience working on Massively Multiplayer Online games and First Person Shooters. Although we are not the purchaser of the franchise, the team is delighted to carry the PlanetSide 2 torch forward. Additionally, we will continue working with the Daybreak Games publishing team to ensure the game continues to receive best-in-class marketing and community support.

Our vision for PlanetSide 2 is to highlight unique aspects that have given it such a storied place in gaming history while improving the general game experience. To that end we’ve laid out three major principles to guide us moving forward along with our 2024 roadmap following below:

A renewed focus on the elements that make PlanetSide 2 great, rebalancing mechanics and content while addressing the current pain points that get in the way
Create more objective-based player goals within the core gameplay loop to
capitalize better on the breadth of PlanetSide 2’s potential
Infuse each major update with more theme, lore, and world building to give more
structure and context to the world we all inhabit

2024 Roadmap
Q1
If you look back on Q1, you can see that we put quite a bit of effort into fixing bugs that were major causes of pain points for everyone. We're not at the end of the road just yet, and we are dedicated to identifying and squashing more.

The tradition of developer letters that started at the end of last year will continue. We want to be as transparent as possible and also share some insights with our community on how we create assets and develop features for PlanetSide 2. In addition, we reworked Capture the Conduit and created several beautiful bundles celebrating Auraximas, Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day, and St Patrick's Day.

You may have noticed that the reward structure for the Seasonal Directives is much more rewarding. Below is an example of how we want to continue with directive rewards:

Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4
Certs ISO-4 A7 Helmet/Weapon/Armor/Vehicle cosmetic
Title Banner Camo Deluxe Implant Pack
Decal Banner Frame Basic Implant Pack

Q2
We have exciting content waiting for you in Q2, which we are working on right now. We’re starting with the Puzzler Bundle on April Fools' Day, in which you will find a handful of Puzzler themed cosmetics, all for only 10 certs.

New color variants for the NS-44 “Primed Amethyst” Commissioner that were featured in the 11th Anniversary Bundle are entering the Depot as well as a new base/facility capture method (more details to follow).

Q2 also includes the PlanetSide Franchise Anniversary and other equally exciting holidays such as: Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Q3
Q3 is going to be hot with the return of two summer directive events with great rewards. We are also very excited to release the updated Sunderer, although it may happen sooner if we manage to overcome some technical limitations. Additionally, we will have another new game mode, which some of our colleagues have already started working on, and we will also celebrate holidays such as Independence Day and Labor Day in a big way.

Q4
The most anticipated PlanetSide 2 updates will arrive at the end of the year. We do not want to reveal all the cards just yet, but at the same time we want to share some of the novelties that are waiting for you closer to the end of the year. We will start with the traditional Halloween celebration, for which we are preparing an intimidating event, and right after that we will release the Anniversary Update. There, we will introduce a completely new theme, which will include a new vehicle type, armor sets, helmets, weapons, and cosmetics.

We cannot wait to show you a behind the scenes look at our upcoming new art assets, story elements, and the technical workings of creating a new type of transportation in PlanetSide 2. Expect more Auraximas events, a bundle with winter weapons, sales, and holiday decorations.

Concluding Thoughts
Naturally, to accomplish our goals for the year, there will be a learning curve involved, not only for technical reasons, but also because PlanetSide 2 is a large and venerable game with many gameplay niches and a deeply passionate community. This transition has been under way for several months and is largely the reason updates have been smaller and slower lately than what the community is used to seeing.

As we become more proficient and knowledgeable, the scope and pace of updates will speed up and our ability to take risks will grow. Becoming experts in the full scope of such a massive enterprise will take time, and mistakes will be made. However, we promise to listen closely and carefully to your feedback so we may learn and grow as quickly as possible.

- Toadman Interactive, PlanetSide 2 Team

Could be good, could be bad, hard to tell at this point since it's (presumably) new people learning how the game spaghetti code is set up. Kind of sucks that the in development sunderer reworks is slated to go so long, I had assumed it'd be done by now but I guess it got taken away from the old dev team and given to this new one. Other than that there's the new assault facility thing they're making, and then just a bunch of holiday events. I don't mind holiday events but even though someone has to work on them, it's weird that they're milestones in a development roadmap.

This one's kind of interesting and is reassurance at least the servers will be where they're at for 2024 and that the Daybreak membership program will continue to be a thing - I was curious after the daily sales vanished a while after the purchase what the plan was for monetization and seems to be "more of the same."

Population's a little lower than it was last year but there's still good blasting to be had on Emerald in prime time if you don't mind the center bases and so looks like it'll be stable for the time being.

Yeah, I'm still playing regularly, and with the addition of more west coasters and aussies and the SEA region, it seems like even after midnight there's still activity on Emerald until 4-5am when it dries up a bit.

They're updating the PTS with a couple of things. Hopefully the oshur change is soon. I don't hate the continent as much as some folks but I wouldn't mind it going into alert like right away so we're not stuck on it for 4+ hours:

https://www.planetside2.com/patch-notes/april-29--pts-notes-2024

Bug Fixes
We made some changes to Oshur's rotation in the game:

Added conditions to the continent rotation so that Oshur is not equivalent to the other Warzones and will instead come up at a reduced frequency
Created a unique alert for Oshur that activates quickly to no pre-conditions so that even when Oshur appears in the rotation we can cap how long it is active for
Friends list now shows the presence of friends online and displays new friends
Outfit chat should work 100% of the time now after today's fix

I'm really not thrilled that this game constantly disconnects. Out of everything I play, this is literally the only game that has that issue. I'll be sitting on a point watching the countdown timer and then it will just freeze, often for 20+ seconds. If my client manages to stay connected then I'll see every player asset start teleporting into its actual place at breakneck speed, but there's always a 25% chance that it just crashes.

I haven't been having issues on Emerald but the connection issues seem to come and go for different servers and ISPs. I've seen some folks post on the subreddit about EU players having problems with cobalt and miller which may be a routing issue with their ISP. When I've had issues in the past sometimes it was my ISP but usually it's been some problem with the server (DDOS or something, back when the game was big enough to get noticed since it was under Sony's umbrella, I guess).

40% off infantry gear this weekend for Mother's Day. Doesn't include bundles so the PMC and Legion sets I'd like to get aren't really much of a sale due to having so many pieces if you buy the bundle. Still waiting for a bundle sale, although I don't think they put them into the last bundle sale either so who knows.

Daily deals have been off for a couple of months, I think they've stopped doing them.

Yeah the daily deals seem to be gone - it's not a huge loss since most of the time it was random things like tires or colossus tank weapons and I'd rather have the 40% sales on targeted things, though it gets a bit quiet between those sales.

Patch tomorrow that will change how the continents rotate. They're also bringing back the amazon prime bundles as membership bundles and adding some stuff to the store for the franchise anniversary. Fixes for the friends list and outfit chat also, apparently.

https://www.planetside2.com/patch-notes/may-15-patch-notes-2024

quote:

New Warzone Rotation System
The way warzones rotate after an alert has been reworked. Previously, Warzones simply rotated through the list of valid Warzones with the oldest being the next one selected. This meant that one Warzone always followed another and the course of the rotation was entirely predictable. We've added two new settings to the Warzone rotation system, the ability for Warzones to be skipped during the selection process and also a chance to be selected. This means we can adjust the frequency of Warzones while still generally following the pattern of oldest next.

We've done 2 things with the new settings. First, the oldest Warzone is by far the most likely one to come next, it will not always happen that way. This means that the rotation is no longer static, but will shuffle itself slightly from time to time. And second, Oshur is now much, much less likely to be selected; and after it has been selected it will not be again for several rounds. This is the compromise we found from removing it entirely as explained previously. Furthermore, Oshur will now have a near instant alert with a short time so that it will be completed more quickly.

New Music in Sanctuary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AefSwtisyI

In honor of the franchise anniversary, we have composed a new music for Sanctuary heavily inspired by the Main Title Theme of the first game in the series. Please enjoy!

Introducing Member Bundles
We are aware of the popularity of the Prime bundles and were also sad to see them discontinued. But fear not, its spirit lives on in the form of the newly introduced "Member Bundles". Each month we are bringing back a Prime bundle and offering it to members for only 10 certs. These bundles will go live on the 1st of each month and will disappear after the last day of the month, with the exception of this month's bundle (May) which will be available with the patch. After all members have had the opportunity to receive previous bundles we will begin introducing new items each month.

May Member Bundle (May 15th - May 31st) - 1 DBC/10 Certs:

NSX Fusion Blade
Deadeye Helmet

21st Franchise Anniversary Bundle (17th May - 4th June) - 599 DBC:
21st Franchise Anniversary Banner
21st Franchise Banner Frame
Retropunk Camo (In faction colors!)
21st Franchise Anniversary Decal

NS-44 "Primed Lapis" Commissioner - 799 DBC:
The Blue Crystal Commissioner is available for purchase in the store
This is a variant of the NS-44 "Primed Amethyst" Commissioner with a blue crystal theme

More New Stuff
Combat Medic Class Decal, Banner and Banner Frame have been added to the Depot for only 1 DBC/10 Certs
Razzle Dazzle Camo has been added to Exceptional VIII Directive Tree (Tier 4 - Master)
Serbian Flag decal added to the depot.
Aviator Helmets have been added to the depot for all factions to purchase

Sales Events
We all know how fond mother is of infantry cosmetics, that is why they are 40% from May 12th - May 14th.

Mother's Day Sale (May 12th - May 14th)
40% off infantry cosmetics

Known Issues
The member bundle is also available for 1 DBC, this isn't intended but the player's may use that option if they want until the option is removed.
Alerts don't always trigger properly causing warzones to get stuck in the rotation.

Bug Fixes
The friends list has been fixed
This turned out to be a substantial rewrite of the entire system to get it working correctly and reliably. For that reason the system is relatively untested and new/different bugs may crop up. We would like everyone to please let us know if there are bugs in this rewrite so that we can fix them as soon as possible
Outfit chat has been refactored and should now work correctly
Similar to the friend's list, the chat system had some fairly significant changes, our internal testing shows that it works consistently and reliably but please be on the lookout for new bugs
The Conduit should no longer be lost if a facility is reclaimed by the defenders
Fixed application settings of non-ASCII named audio devices when using English localization
Voice and Audio device names are now shown correctly in non-English localizations
Bastion hardpoint destruction VFX should now correctly disappear after a hardpoint is destroyed
Ambient noises should no longer be heard on the character select screen after logging out in Sanctuary
Spawned Sunderers no longer collide with the ceiling in Nason's Defiance and become all wibbly wobbly
3rd person weapon firing audio no longer becomes louder after resupplying underwater
Audio for the following weapons has been adjusted to prevent it from spamming multiple cues when tap firing quickly; AF-20 Rogue, MGR-C1 Charger, MGR-C1 Gladius, NC2 Gauss Compact, NS-30 Vandal, NSX Kuwa, NSX Sesshin, NSX Tengu,
Razor GD-23, UBR-300 Swordfish, Gauss SPR, Impetus, NSX Daimyo, Cycler TRV, Pulsar Burst, VE-A Lacerta.
The EM6, EM1, NC6 Gauss Saw, NC6S Gauss Saw S should now have the correct reload animations
Lunar Dragon Helmet (Lunar New Year 2024) helmet now displays faction colors

For the most part the patch was uneventful, but they added some of the Sunderer rework stuff into live by accident. Currently the Point Defense utility item is purchaseable and it drastically increases sunderer gun RoF.
The first two are defense items and the point defense is utility. I'm not going to spec them since it was an accidental addition and they're sometimes bad about returning certs for things.

edit: it's only 1 cert for each of four levels and it's bugged so that it gives like 7000% fire rate or something instead of 70%. It's deployed bus battles tonight.

My best guess is the iteration of sunderer addons that made it from test to live had something disabled or broken or changed with ammo resupply sunderers. It wasn't supposed to be live so it's probably a bit broken. I do like the reactive armor for the defensive slot, it acts like a bunch of shield plates all over the sundy that eat shots and they're probably close to what will go live. I didn't try the shield dome because BRRRT. Anyway, here's some hilariously broken sunderer guns. It's very funny but I hope they fix it ASAP because it's a weird meta when a deployed sunderer is stronger than a colossus. The whole server being echoing BRRRT noises makes you think there's a bunch of A10 warthogs nearby or something.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATJ-bwlMmXU

The May Member's Bundle is the Deadeye helmet and fusion blade from the old amazon prime package, it's 1 DBC or 10 certs if you're a member. If you're not, a member can gift it to you for 1 DBC.

There's medic banner, frame, and decal for 10 certs or 1 DBC as well.

There's a new hacker type on who just makes you fall over dead as a suicide. The previous iteration used to at least throw you into the sky by bumping you with a base turret, mana turret, etc. Just dying with no information sucks and it kept me from playing more tonight.

I hadn't played pside1 since beta but I hopped into the PSForever event today. it's been literally over 20 years so I can't say how true it is to the original, but shockingly I remembered the keybinds and had a fun time doing a little base battle.

pops are low (unsurprisingly). maybe 25 people online when I was playing today which seems to be a typical-to-good number. since it's lowpop, the focus seems to be around having a fun 3-way deathmatch and less about capping bases etc. it's a fun time regardless!

there's a handy guide here for setting it up:

i had some trouble with it stealing control of my desktop mouse while playing which was highly annoying but was otherwise smooth sailing getting everything set up.

I'm back and it's members double xp weekend this weekend. I can only speculate as to my suspension but I think the guy who reported me for cheating (I never have, I just shot him in the head and he died fast and got upset) got someone in customer support looking at my account. Most of it is normal but on characters I don't play much, I still do missions, like on Connery, the killfeed looks weird. I've been shooting unmanned base turrets to do daily missions which I think is usually fine if you're killing 2-3 to do a mission, but when you do that for months your killfeed is just 90% turrets for a long period of time. Even though the timing is spaced out I could see how someone would think I was just spending all my time killing turrets, to pad my stats, I guess. Anyway, lesson learned, if you're doing Clandestine Operative, the fastest way is to blow up 3 enemy/unaligned turrets, but it's probably better to just hack 6 turrets and/or terminals so you're not filling up the killfeed with turrets. Likewise, Skyfire is just 6K damage done with an ESF. You can kill a turret and do half damage to another one but you can also just shoot two turrets down to 1k health with the Wyrm, one magazine each, and then don't blow them up. You can also just shoot vehicles, but late night connery is like 30 people online and the only vehicles out are sunderers which is kind of rude to blow up at low pop. Doing NSX Weapon eval with the Masamune, well, who knows. I think if it's just in among other stuff they wouldn't care, and that missions shows up a fraction of the amount of the others since it has to roll NSX Weapon eval as your A7 mission, then roll that weapon as the weapon to use.

I assume that was all this was but they don't give you any information nor any way to appeal beyond making a new account to submit tickets from, so I guess just be more careful than I was. Also, if you're suspended, you can't access your account on the website where you control your subscription. Seems shady but the whole thing is stupid to begin with so I don't know.

Oh and I should mention that they have improved the sunderer situation. The issue is that in the last patch they added in stuff from the upcoming sunderer rework onto live by accident, but the Point Defense module was giving 1000% increased weapon RoF instead of 100% or whatever it's supposed to have. They didn't remove the offending items but they reduced Point Defense to rank 1 and capped it there for now which is a 70% increase in RoF but not bugged to be 10x higher. The main thing to note is if you see a sunderer with the green holographic plates on it, that's the new Reactive Armor defense item. The plates will eat damage before the sunderer takes damage and at the moment it seems to require explosives hitting the plates to make them turn off until their cooldown (1 minute at rank 1, 45 seconds maxed out). So you can drive up to a sundy and blast it with a basilisk and do no damage, but shoot it once with an AMR or UBGL and the plates will drop on the side you hit it and then you can shoot it normally.

The deployment dome cover is also active and seems like a good way to shield troop spawns. The one thing that's kind of stuck in a weird spot is that stealth at max level used to provide cloaking. Now cloaking is moved to Utility slot instead of defense, but it exists in both places if you had a cloaked sundy loadout before the patch. I'm not sure what combination does it but I've been shot by stealthed sunderers that don't drop out of stealth as some kind of interaction between the new stuff that was put in by accident and the old stuff that's still in loadouts. Anyway those things are the main ones in now, they're still working on it and it's supposed to have an entire category for deployable items like a repair station that drops out while they're driving, but that hasn't gone in.
