On Barry Oursler's TOPcast interview, he said that Python would disappear for days while they were working on a game, and then reappear shortly before his work was due and pull all nighters until it was done. He was just a weird dude. Funny to read in that piece that 5 and 6 thousand are counted as the absurdly high prices for the super rare Capcom games. Sigh.

Honestly, gently caress Big Bang Bar. Kingpin doesn't deserve to be in its shadow, it's a really fun game on its own, judging from what I've got to see from the Visual Pinball recreation, but it doesn't seem to get a fraction of the hype BBB gets. Kingpin needs to come to TPA or something like that. The licensing can't be that outrageous, right? And virtualizing games that never got past the proto phase but are fully functional is a great way to get some press amongst the pinball world.

The problem with the Capcom games is the emulation won't work on phones, and I guess there aren't enough games and they aren't popular enough for them to invest their super limited resources in trying to solve that issue. Breakshot and Pinball Magic are two pretty fun games. They're not exceptional, but they're pretty decent. Flipper Football is really dumb but it's kinda fun.

You could even set the graphics to change on a timer, so it'd be no more offensive than a data east playboy during the day, but get really raunchy at 9 pm after the dinner crowd goes home. You could even change the featured gender for gay bars, and such. Stern's playboy kind of had this, as it had 3 different sets of pictures you could put into the game, but you had to manually unscrew a bunch of stuff to switch them out, making it impractical for quick changes. Heck, with pinball 2000, you could even charge more money for a more pornographic game...

I'd already played lots of Season 1 on PS4, but I've been playing a ton lately with the Season 2 releases (I held off on most of the S2 tables for the PS4 versions) and getting the rest of Season 3 and I far prefer it to the Steam and iOS versions. There are still plenty of dumb little *Farsight* issues with certain tables, but in general everything works great and I think the enhanced lighting is a huge addition to the game. PA is definitely one of my top 3 most played PS4 games.

Just hit up Pinballz the other night. Still super bad. Got my poo poo kicked in by Black Knight as per usual. I dunno what it is, but I just cannot get my feet under me on that table. That carried over into one of the shortest Pinbot games I've ever had. I think I lost all three balls in like forty-five seconds. Only interesting spot was getting a ball stuck on Star Trek: The Next Generation in a spot where I couldn't even describe where it was stuck because apparently I couldn't remember the term kick-out hole. (it was behind the KOH in a little circle of bare wood surrounded by bumpers) I couldn't fit my hand in, the attendant couldn't fit their hand in, it wouldn't pop out when the attendant rocked the playfield back and forth, the attendant's second attempt with the hand finally got it out. And if that's your most interesting moment, man, you're bad.

I went up to Pinball Wizard in Pelham, NH yesterday. Super cool place, it's in a somewhat small venue (a largish place in a strip mall) but they really packed it full of games. Most pins are 3-4 tokens, which adds up when you're really bad like me- I have this thing about nudging real tables where I feel like I'm going to break something, so I almost never do it. They had pretty much every table I wanted to play, excluding Terminator 2, and there were only two or three tables that were out of order, with an operator working the whole day on fixing stuff. They even had a simple little pin that printed tickets (Mario World), which I've never seen before. They had a head-to-head table, which is something I've always wanted to try, but it was out of order. They had pretty much all the newest tables, too: WoZ, Walking Dead, Tron, Avatar, etc. Getting to play BK2K was a treat, and I was surprised to actually find Twilight Zone a little easier as a real table than in TPA. Medieval Madness is a real bastard, though. The really great thing about the place, however, is their considerable amount of fighting games, all priced at one token, and the Virtual-On and Neo-Geo machines. It's right on the NH state line, so if you're Boston area, it's probably only 30 minutes or so out of the way. And you can hit up the state liquor store next door and get some cheap hooch, too. Oh, and there's a Groupon deal to get 100 tokens for 15 bucks. Anonymous Robot fucked around with this message at 23:48 on Jan 11, 2015 |

So another update on my cabinet. I'm probably 95% or so done with it. Very little left to do really. First up a few pics Inside of cabinet/Wiring Game shot And some quick videos I'm using PinballX as my front end, this is what it looks like in attract mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tZPgYjB5HI Here it is manually cycling through the tables https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bio6i1V--34 And here's a quick video of my playing World Cup Soccer '94 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9joz2W8pUc If you'll notice the sound of the flippers seem louder than normal it's because I have 2 24v Siemens contactors connected to a relay board for real force feedback. I have another 6 contactors on order to add 2 more for the slingshots near the flippers, 3 for the back right bumpers and another one for a bumper/slingshot on the left side of the playfield, should have them wired up this week. Right now I've got 68 visual pinball tables installed, all of them DOF compatible, which means they are all integrated with the LEDs and force feedback toys and all are d2bs tables, which is the animated backglass system. I've also got the new visual pinball phys mod 5 installed, which is the newest version of visual pinball with updated physics models, which, one VP10 comes out will be in that version, there are about 10 tables in the cabinet running on that, the rest on the latest version of the regular visual pinball. Basically what I have left to add are the remaining contactors, glass for the playfield and some sort of side art. I'm extremely happy with how it's turned out, I've already had 3 people ask how much to build them one, one of whom was my dad who really couldn't believe what he was playing, he loves pinball(I'm going to build him one for his birthday which is in april!) and everyone who has come over to play it loves it. mattfl fucked around with this message at 01:56 on Jan 12, 2015 |

I was at CES this week for work and managed to sneak away and see the Stern booth. I played the wrestle mania table a bit and while the art and theme were a bit crappy, the actual ring itself was really great and fun to play. Really enjoy the new Star Trek. Was playing it today. Really wish I had the capital and skills to make an after market mod for the middle "punch it!" button. I figured out how to play Bride of Pinbot on the PS4 forever, as long as I don't screw up. I'm not sure if I should be happy or disappointed that it's become the easiest table I've ever played, even on a TV with 2.5 frames of input lag.
