The balancing of a powerful pathing move with the risk of unveiling is a smart and good thing.

Goons would have the archon king serve them icecream after jerking them off as a reward for not using a single dash move in a turn, if there was a mod for it.

It was in the patch notes, they fixed it. Unless they hosed up the number again somehow.

If someone could configure that to work with SPARK's,I'd die a happy man.

Looking the DLC"s configs and the game's scripts as to how it handles customization, I *think* all you would need to do to make a voice type be usable by the SPARKs (though it will have the side effect of making it only available to SPARKs) to add in the following of any voice pack's XComContent.ini:

code:
CharacterTemplate="SparkSoldier"
Along with modifying the Gender to be None.

So that mod for instance should have its XComContent.ini look like this:
code:
+BodyPartTemplateConfig=(PartType="Voice", Gender=eGender_None, TemplateName="HK-47_Voice", ArchetypeName="HK-47Voice.HK-47Voice", CharacterTemplate="SparkSoldier")
And it should be usable for SPARKs then. I'm not sure how voice files are organized though, so I'm not sure if the voice lines are organized in generic enough categories you can expect them to work as-is or if you should still be bugging your favourite voice pack authors to make SPARK-specific packs if Firaxis had to make new categories for the stuff they added in for SPARKs.

Hahaha, holy poo poo that mission. Starts easy enough...then ramps up. Then the next part is easy enough...and then ramps up again. You get to the final segment and you're all "Okay, how is the mad AI gonna try to screw us over again? Oh. That's how."

Somehow I did it with only four soldiers and default ballistic weapons without losing anyone. It really helps that Sparks come with innate shred. Also, much like Bradford is basically built to be a beast in the Viper's Den, Lily is built to be a beast in the Tower.

Edit: Oh god I love these super-polite SPARK lines. "I apologize for your untimely death."

Well, you'd have to add a bunch of extra lines to accommodate SPARK only stuff like Overdrive, Falcon Punching dudes in the FACE,and probably some other things.

I made the mistake of bringing a Ranger with a tier 1 SMG to that fight. :suicide: Dude was nearly useless the entire time...and then made up for when the final boss had the bright idea to stand next to one of the big, giant power-coil things on the roof. Why yes I'll take 16 damage on the boss!

I have soldiers being seen through doors (and shooting overwatch through doors no less) and an Andromedon just shot my squad through a solid wall. Is there anywhere to complain about this poo poo? They're not even playtesting this game anymore.

Edit: Now a sectopod is seeing me drone-hack an objective and walking through it after the hack finishes, which still breaks the terminal and cancels the objective. I'm >< this close to just giving up on the game.

Yup, but you don't get Sparks until you do it if you have the mission activated.

Not sure how getting Sparks work if you don't activate the mission during the campaign setup. According to the campaign setup do still get them. Then again, I haven't figured out how to build a second Spark in my campaign (probably through the Proving Ground but I haven't built one yet).

Andromedon hits me with an acid grenade while standing behind a solid wall.

I'm getting offered shots like these all the time. Later in the mission she shot an ADVENT through a solid roof.

This flare dropped in the middle of a building with a blown-out wall but the roof was completely solid.

I was able to shoot a rocket through a solid wall, though at least this time the wall showed the round passing through it / damage. Enemies have done the same to me.

I've also had soldiers run through closed doors instead of kicking them open. All those shots are from the same mission, which I had to relentlessly savescum because a Sectopod was seeing my drone hack something on the other side of a wall and then walking through that wall to fail the objective despite the hack being complete.

If that's the case then there's a lot of people out there who have copies of EU/EW that are corrupted in the coincidentally same way as to give them inconsistent LOS rules.

I mean I've definitely had moments in X2 where I've had clearly bullshit moments, but not anywhere close to the number I had in EU/EW and Long War, and honestly I'm impressed by that considering how X2 has the far harder map design philosophy when it comes to bugtesting that sort of thing.

Picked this up in the sale (the deluxe version) and started a new game. There was a pop-up about wanting to activate the Alien Hunters DLC and I decided not to based on some advice earlier in the thread, since they sounded a bit too much for my first go. Unfortunately, they appear to have been activated anyway as I just had a mission with some king viper thing that took an action every time one of my guys took an action :haw: Wasn't so bad, though: after grabbing one of my dudes briefly and getting plugged with some holes, it jumped into a portal and escaped. :effort:

Game is really hard at the start. I'm only on the second difficulty level and lost a ton of dudes in the first few tutorial missions, and needed a couple of tries on one of them. Also flunked my first terror mission because apparently one of the alien mobs began with almost every civilian right next to them, and I didn't even get close before they were all massacred. Things are slowly coming together as I get the hang of all the new stuff and the 'guerilla' gameplay, but it's going to be a hard slog I can tell. One problem I'm having right now is the cover and LOS mechanics, which I struggled with a bit in the first game too at first. Take this sectoid, for example:

Why does it have high cover against this guy? Is it the benches, are they in the way? Some ability it has? Or just goofiness?

His buddy nearby can't even see the sectoid, apparently (just a turret off-screen to the right and someone getting mind-controlled), but it seems to me he should?

Viper King sounds like a really bad bug. Normally you have to do a specific mission that's pretty clearly telegraphed and you can stall forever.
Unless I'm misremembering the first few missions after the scripted tutorial are full-fledged missions, they just happen to have tutorial voice overs happening and don't have anything besides pectoids and ADVENT. Don't feel bad about losing on them, because, well, they're as hard as any mission.
Line of sight is pretty buggy. It seems to have gotten slightly worse with this latest patch, but it could just be luck for me, you, and that other guy.

Mods for this game are really good, don't be afraid to try some of the really beloved ones. The LW mods from release (SMG, Centurion, and the leader soldier class) are a good starting point. Capnbub's Accessory Pack is mandatory if you like playing pretty barbie dress up. Evac All and Stop Wasting My Time are both excellent quality of life mods.

Drunk in Space

It's weird because after my first encounter with the viper king (it was just my fourth or fifth mission, and we were securing supplies or something, so an ordinary mission I guess?), the guys on the Avenger started going on about Dr Valen and "why would she make such a thing!?" etc, and I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. So yeah, a lovely bug, I guess.

While I'm generally enjoying this game I am feeling a bit rushed. Seems like I can't go a day of game time without something new popping up to divert my attention. I just wanna scan this thing in peace first, please? :(

If you have the Alien Hunters dlc installed, the rulers are going to always be in the game. If you don't enable the story mission, they show up on their own schedule and you have to build the special weapons yourself.
