And seeing as DDP was one of the few nice guys to Bischoff when Bischoff was a nobody, you can see how it would have helped Ross to not gently caress with him so much. Mick Foley was nice to Bischoff back then too, and look where that got him. Whatever JR's attitude may be, he doesn't deserve to be treated the way Vince treats him, and hopefully HHH will be less of a dipshit manchild when he takes over the company.

Ric Flair VS Shawn Michaels in 2008 was the greatest storyline in wrestling history in my opinion. Here are a few highlights: The last promo before Wrestlemania 24: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbySBBCLZz8 The Wrestlemania match which is amazing: 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCUYgBL-LL4 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7oDrg4LhA4 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PJRxuAdNbs And of course what I think is the best thing WWE has ever produced ever. It gets me every goddamn time I watch it. The farewell on Raw the night after (with homevideo exclusives with Undertaker and McMahon: 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-buWs_Tu1o&feature=related 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qqo9xoH5SPs&feature=related 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Mv5i4Np0M&feature=related 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l4DKILeWZA&feature=related And then we never saw Ric Flair again and he rode off into the sunset and never came back to wrestling ever again.

HulkaMatt posted:LONG LIVE THE STREAM. Fun fact: That's from the brief period in the '90s where Toyota/Shimoda and Yamada/Mita reformed their tag teams from early in their careers in the late '80s (Tokyo Sweethearts and Dream Orca respectively) although I'm not quite sure of the reasoning why... I'm assuming it happened for a Tag League the Best tournament. Dream Orca is the best goddamn tag team name ever by the way.

Generic CAW posted:Ric Flair VS Shawn Michaels in 2008 was the greatest storyline in wrestling history in my opinion. One of my all-time favs, for sure. I love the subtleties of it. When Michaels starts acting heelish and talking about Old Yeller, it seems a bit out of character. But I realized that Michaels didn't want to be the one to retire his mentor. And, realistically, he knew that Flair was past his prime. But maybe if he gets Flair angry, if he really gets him worked up, Naitch might pull it off. I don't remember the commentators ever picking up on that, and I was a little disappointed. It also led wonderfully into a year's worth of storylines, feeding into the Batista feud and then Jericho. And I loved the three part structure that entailed. Flair-Michaels was face vs. face with Michaels as sort of the defacto heel while not actually turning. Then Michaels vs. Batista was also face vs. face, Batista as defacto heel this time, also remaining face. Then Jericho pulls, I think, the best heel turn in decades. Here's an odd Jericho heel turn video set to Lenny Kravitz.

I'm not sure if Bishoff has a point or not. On one hand, wrestling is probably partly responsible for his addictions, on the other hand, he'd probably be so far gone with or without wrestling at this point that he could be working a 7-11 and still have a drug/alcohol problem.

# ? Oct 13, 2011 20:23 |

I don't know Scott Hall's life or medical history, but I'd venture to say wrestling made getting addictions a hell of a lot easier. Nearly every story from the 80's or 90's was about how drunk or high or whatever a bunch of wrestlers were.
