I was confused when I started seeing "unpopular opinion puffin" with reasonable opinions, like "I like fall", then I noticed they were being tagged as "popular opinion puffin", then I remembered that meme's are stupid and it all made sense.

Miltank posted:liberal/radleft (Not going against you specifically here.) Does the US has some kind of weird political spectrum that the rest of the world doesn't? I've seen far too often that people place "liberal" and "far left/radical left" together as if they're supposed to be the same thing. In reality, social liberalism is at the most centre-right on the spectrum, and that's the branch farthest to the left of the bunch. Pictured: noted marxist

ulvir posted:Does the US has some kind of weird political spectrum that the rest of the world doesn't? Yes, we are the backwards country. e: to be more specific, "liberal" and "conservative" are pretty nebulous terms and people get all worked up about which side they identify with and why the other side is evil, while never clearly defining what their beliefs are. Effectively all US politicians are neoliberal if viewed in the context of the rest of the world. karlor fucked around with this message at 22:17 on Sep 25, 2014 |

Partly from never having a viable seriously left wing political party, and partly from right-wing media painting everyone left of center-right as hard core Stalinists.

$20 red dot on a $25000 machine gun The legality of hunting bear over bait in Maine will be voted on in November. According to that article, Maine has the largest bear population in the lower 48. The state's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife say that even with bait, there is only a 40% success rate with bear hunts and that banning the practice would be detrimental to bears and humans because it would cause the population to explode.

A Tour of Presidential Gravesites. William McKinley Number:25 Years served: 1897-1901 Died: 1901 Buried at: McKinley National Memorial, Canton, Ohio Ah "Big Bill" McKinley, a man often overshadowed by his much more famous Vice President. Still, there are some interesting and even admirable qualities about the man. Born in Ohio; McKinley served in the Civil War, starting as a common private and ending up as a major by the end of the war. During the war McKinley struck up a freindship with future President Rutherford B. Hayes and fought at quite a few battles, including Antietam. After the war he became a lawyer and in 1871 married Ida Saxton, a sickly woman who suffered from epilepsy. To his credit Bill took great care of his wife. In 1875 McKinley met Mark Hanna, a rather unpleasant businessman who would manage all of McKinley's future political moves. In 1897 McKinley was elected president after having served as a popular Ohio governor. No discussion of McKinley can exclude the Spanish-American War but I don't think I can do it justice other then to say it was controversial for quite a few reasons to say the least but as someone of Puerto-Rican descent (though not living on the island) I am fairly glad to be American. To his shame however McKinley did little to advance African American rights in comparison to his Republican predecessors. On September 6, 1901 at the Temple of Music, on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, while shaking hands with a line of well wishers William McKinley was shot twice by self-proclaimed anarchist Leon Czolgosz despite being only feet from four Buffalo detectives, four soldiers, and three Secret Service agents. Interestingly enough Czolgosz attempted to take a third shot when James Parker, an African-American from Georgia tackled him to the ground. The police then beat Czolgosz before the wounded McKinley called out to his aides to stop the crowd from hurting the assassin. McKinley died several days later on the 14th Overall I like the McKinley Memorial, somewhat bland but quite beautiful with the snow.
