try not to take it too hard! the elevators are pretty much useless except for the achievement, or if you want to complete a specific monster hunting quest and need to run the same floor over and over again

It does indirectly. Jammed enemies are guaranteed to drop bonus casings, and their appearance rate is determined by your Curse level.

So if you want to swim in money, just get up to 10 Curse. Nothing bad comes of it.

Higher curse levels affect casing drops in that jammed enemies drop more casings. I don't know if there's anything beyond that.

You get more casings the more cursed you are because more jammed enemies spawn. Jammed enemies drop more casings.

Deal with it.
Most enemies have a random chance to drop casings on death, but large enemies like Lead Maidens and Gun Nuts will always be guaranteed to drop about 5 or more casings(unless you get hit). Jammed enemies, I can't remember if they always drop money but the definitely drop much more than their non-jammed counterparts. Most of the time enemies won't give money if they manage to hit you, unless they hit armor, then I think they'll still drop.

Getting hit in your regular health by the enemy is the only thing that forces them to not drop money. Dropping them into a hole, blowing them up, transforming them into chickens, none of that matters they should still give you money, tons of people seem to think that kicking them into holes 'loses' money because they don't notice the money just appearing over their head instead of travelling towards the player like normally happens.

Also if people are still finding the game too frustrating they should probably wait until the next big update, the devs have said they intend to make the game much less stingy and harsh as well as add tons of Isaac-style synergies.

Behold My Magnificence!
I stopped playing this game when I got to the point that I won 90% of the time and had unlocked most stuff, so I’m looking forward to new content.

I am hearing some real bad advice in these last few pages. Basic gun management primer to not go insane: Pick a boss gun and a floor gun. Boss gun is only for boss. If, after killing the boss, you think you have enough ammo to kill another boss then start the next floor with your floor gun. If not, start the next floor with your boss gun until it’s out of ammo and use the next ammo box to refill it before switching back to floor gun. When your floor gun runs out of ammo, switch to your next best floor gun. When an ammo box drops, refill your empty favorite floor gun if you have been playing right and your boss gun is ready to go.

Your best boss gun is the one with the highest dps, with some consideration for explosives or defensive effects. Your best floor gun has the best special effects.

In my experience with drops, gun eating boxes, and a very rare purchase you will never run so low on ammo you have to use the basic gun again until you reach the double secret final challenge level and run dry on everything. That level is for when you are feeling like hot poo poo, and if you don’t have the ammo to clear it you are not hot poo poo. Take the W instead of going for the victory lap with your garbage drops.

People sometimes obsess over using the basic pistol way too long and so over value it with character selection. That gun is garbage no matter who you pick. If you are unlucky you will have to clear the first floor with it, if you are very unlucky you will have to kill the boss with it. You should always clear the Oubliette (baring a red or black chest on the first floor) so the first floor boss gun might be your only alternative to the starting weapons. After that, do not touch the starting pistol unless you are completely out of ammo for other guns.

Git gud bonus advice on gun pairing: Once you have a bunch of guns you shouldn’t just look for your best floor/boss gun and manage those, you should look for your best pair of guns for the floor/boss. You want contrasting utility / ranges / special effects that makes a nice compliment. Pair them up and quick switch all the time, so it’s like you now have one gun with two modes! They even reload on their own when not equipped. Convict is great for training this. Pistol for longer range plinking, shotgun for panic button / close range bursts. Any of the single shot explosive weapons also become 1000% better when you fire it to open a fight, switch off, switch back to blow up a threat, etc.

Also I have played this game for hundreds upon hundreds of hours and gently caress it for never giving me either a glitch or a rainbow chest in all that time.

i have no idea how frequently it goes on sale, but it's worth much more than $10, so even if you pay full price you're going to get your money's worth. DRtC is a lot more tactical than EtG, and managing resources is a HUGE part of your success (or failure) but i love it to death also and having to pick between DRtC and EtG would be my Sophie's Choice. they are both great games that both continue to receive content and balancing updates and they are two of the best examples i can recall for Steam Greenlight going right.

i think it's probably significant to consider where somebody is at w/r/t their progress. someone that's just trying to consistently get down to level 3/4/5 is going to use a different strategy than someone that's unlocked nearly everything and is just trying to ace bullet hell consistently.

I've been trying to do something similar to that write up starting at floor 3 or so. Take the biggest boom I got, fire one or two shots in a new room, then switch to "floor gun". A thing that's been bothering me though is that my inventory can be very messy. Maybe the big boom is my third gun and the floor gun is my sixth. I often end up taking damage when trying to switch. Is there any way to re-arrange your guns in your inventory that I'm not aware of?

not sure how you have your controls set up, but on PC with a controller I believe the default is holding the DOWN button on the D-Pad for like 2 seconds to drop the gun you're currently holding. you can drop all of your guns and then pick them back up in whatever order you want if you're trying to organize them.

also you can set favorite guns so that Triangle (PS) or X (Xbox) on a controller will swap between your current gun and whatever you set for your favorite gun.

CNC! Easy as 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣!
You can also throw empty guns at enemies, there's a pickup you can get where doing this will make the thrown gun explode, causing even more damage than just the thrown gun.

EDIT: And throwing things like the Sling when you run out of ammo for it count as doing as much damage as the actual ammo, so getting the Sling is like a single-shot weapon you can pickup and throw over and over again for decent damage (as long as you don't have the exploding pickup).

The explosion passive doesn't destroy thrown guns! It does tend to knock them around quite a bit though, so maybe don't use it if there's a pit in the room.

This was me entering level 5 with 3.5/7 hearts (would've had 8 but this was the run I was able to donate Master Round 3 to the elevator fixer):

The first 3 rooms were devastating. Two of them were just obstacle based, and the third was the massive conveyor belt room, with several enemies I was seeing for the first time (I had been to level 5 exactly once before and didn't last). Luckily, Super Meat Gun slowly cleared the room for me. Then I found this:

Note that I still have the ammo drop the Marine starts out with. I cleared out all the rooms primarily with Super Meat Gun and Demon Head, planning to refilll them with the ammo drop + ammo purchase from blacksmith. Then the cartographer gave me Eyepatch (which I gladly took since it seemed a safe bet that I wouldn't care about a loss to accuracy against a boss), and I found a black chest with Shock Bullets which, surprise surprise, work really drat well with the Super Meat Gun (though I don't know how much damage they do).
Fed all other guns except those 2 into the shrine, entered the boss chamber at full health, then proceded to get hit only 6 times while my electrified saw blades ripped him to shreds. Got to stage 2, at first I was terrified by the curtain of bullets, but once I realized what was happening it was almost trivial. I chuckled a bit once I found the "hidden" thing (the thing underneath the dragun's skull), wondering how many people miss it.

Good game, will play some more.

The Wall and Dragun get shredded REALLY fast by the super meat gun because their hitboxes are massive and don't move. Also their bullet patterns are really predictable.

It's a lot less effective on the others, though, particularly for the reason you mention but also because you'll be missing hits on the ricochet when the boss moves.

One of the devs posted an update on Reddit re: the AG&D update:

Hey Gungeoneers! We wanted to give you all an update on AG&D and what we’ve been up to these past few months, as well as apologize for being late and our up-to-now radio silence.

First and foremost, what you can probably guess: we've been working hard to ensure our Advanced Gungeons & Draguns update is up to the quality that you have hopefully come to expect from us, but we have hit a couple of major delays.

The Switch version took far more time and resources than we initially expected. We have help with our ports, and we assumed initially that porting to Switch would not be substantially more complicated than porting to Xbox One, but the Switch version needed very low-level restructuring in a way that only someone with intimate knowledge of how the game was architected could accomplish in any reasonable amount of time. This is stuff we almost certainly would’ve had to do before our next update (after AG&D), so it isn’t strictly Switch-specific, but we had to adjust our timetable substantially. Once it was completed, there were of course the normal several weeks of further support and bug-fixing. In short, the Switch version became considerably more of a time-sink than we had anticipated, and ground the development of AG&D to a crawl. We've been working full-time on the update for weeks now, and we are happy to report things are going smoothly.

(For the curious: due to certain requirements as part of the Switch specification we had to completely rewrite how Gungeon stores and loads objects in and out of memory, which, as I'm sure you can imagine, is a pretty fundamental part of the game. The good news is, this reduced the filesize of Gungeon substantially, from about a gigabyte to around three hundred megabytes on Switch. This is an improvement that will come to other platforms, though the specific size changes might vary.)

The second delay came from some indecision as to what to include in AG&D and what to include in possible future updates. In our usual way, we kept adding stuff to AG&D until it had grown substantially beyond our original announced plans. This, coupled with the Switch interruption, meant that we spent a decent amount of time working on content that ultimately will probably be included in an update after AG&D. This is good news in a way, in that it means we're ahead of schedule on a future update... but obviously was bad news in the short run for AG&D. That said, we're absolutely not cutting anything we've announced for AG&D--all this additional content is secret stuff we've not talked about yet! Anything you've heard us say will be in AG&D absolutely will still be.

Basically, we put too many bullets in the chamber at once. We'll do another update once we're absolutely certain of a release date for AG&D, in the same way that we only announced a Switch release date right before it came out. In fact, this will almost certainly just become Dodge Roll policy; we'll still announce cool stuff, but we're just really bad at making date predictions. This makes the official release date of AG&D “soon," where "soon" means "more than a week and less than four months." Our apologies for having psyched you up so far in advance, and thank you very much for your continued patience and support for us. We're lucky to have a really supportive community, and honestly we can't wait to have you play through what we've got in store. A lot of it will be welcome changes, and some of it, we're sure, will be a sadistic surprise.

EDIT: I'd just like to add how unbelievably nice it is to see all of the thanks and the nice comments in the responses. I was really tempted to reply to all of you! Please know that it is super appreciated.

Best five bucks I've ever spend.
I just got back into this after putting it down for a while. I played it a lot shortly after release (and got as far as unlocking a ton of stuff, killing the Dragun a couple times, and crafting the bullet that can kill the past). I put it down because it felt like too many of my runs were dying on the vine because I ran out of resources (ammo in particular, but also keys).

Did the supply drop make the game easier by tweaking drop rates and whatnot? Almost all of my runs are going to the Forge now, and I've killed three of the Gungoners's pasts in the last couple days. I even unlocked the robot without too much trouble, which previously seemed like a massive hassle.

I'm having more fun with it now than I was then. I can't tell if I'm better or if the balance was altered. It's made me want to stick it out until I kill the Lich.

I also had an insane run yesterday with Ser Junken and Clone. I started as the pilot and found an additional utility belt, so I had three active items, two of which made me invulnerable. The third one was master blank, and I also happened to find the full metal jacket. Junken was fully leveled, I also found a space friend, and a stupid amount of good weapons. I believe this was the closest thing to God Mode I'll ever experience in this game, and it's a shame I hadn't unlocked bullet hell yet. I had 6 master chambers by the end of it, a stupid amount of blanks and armor, and I barely had to do anything while Junken melted down everything's health. I felt incredibly relaxed for the Pilot's past.

Yeah, the supply drop update made the game a bit easier. There a dumb metagame trick where if you don't pick up keys until you get to the shop he'll have a guaranteed key, so you should almost always do that. They also introduced the key dropping enemies. I think at some point they fixed a bug to make ammo drop more.

I also picked the game up a while ago and I was even better at it than when I was playing regularly. Could be the same thing for you.

Did my second Lead God run without the clone and beat the lich about 70% of the time. Also beat the challenge run but it stresses me out so I don't do it all the time. I can't wait for the expansion, I love this game but it's just out of content for me.

Prior to my clone run, I had flawlessed the first four bosses to get four master rounds, and then I took one hit on the Dragun. I was very disappointed.

This game has made me feel crushing disappointment and euphoric achievement. The runs are so long that it really hurts to choke at the end of them.

IIRC the floor 1 shop now checks to see whether a key has dropped, not whether you've picked one up, specifically so as not to reward and encourage the dumb key avoidance thing. If you see a key, just pick it up.

I finished the Convict's past last night, so that's all four main characters down. I read in a Steam guide that you need to finish off the Lich before you get access to the Robot and Bullet's pasts. The wiki doesn't mention this, so I'm guessing that's false? I really like the Robot's starting loadout. His default pistol is dope.

Of the four main Gungeoners, I think the Hunter is my favorite. The crossbow is a really nice starting weapon with great damage and range, and the dog helps generate resources. Her gear gives a nice mix of early and late-game benefits. The pilot seems like the most RNG-based character, and the early going with him can be really rough. The additional keys added in the supply drop negate his lock picks a bit and make him less useful. I do like using the picks on brown chests though, which I would otherwise just shoot and hope for a Junken drop. I thought I'd hate the convict but I really appreciated her high starting DPS and her damage boost came in handy a lot. The Marine is solid and boring, and possibly the best character for new players. He's the Ryu of Enter the Gungeon.

I still need to unlock the Bullet. I've only seen him three times, and I accidentally killed him the first time. Whoops.

My favorite characters are the Pilot and the Hunter. I think your take on the Hunter is spot on. The pilot always felt like the best long-game character if you're ok with a potential rough start. The lock picks typically give me a 50/50 shot at opening 1-2 brown chests I would otherwise just shoot. They get tossed for anything else I find. Higher ammo capacity is useful but not game changing. He really shines in the accumulated benefits from lower prices over 5 floors and the possibility of getting 2 really useful active items.

Robot is a challenge character. His starting weapon is great but his bullet upgrade is mediocre and spilling water, even with the electric bullets, is just lame. He only gets armor for health so a lot of items are useless for him. He shines in the first few levels but once you get a better gun than his default it's all long term downside.
