http://www.bbspot.com/News/2006/11/...egulations.html Note that this doesn't look like a permanent URL. quote:Los Angeles , CA - The MPAA is lobbying congress to push through a new bill that would make unauthorized home theaters illegal. The group feels that all theaters should be sanctioned, whether they be commercial settings or at home. Isn't this more than a little ridiculous? A $500,000 for showing a movie to a friend, but only if our TV is big and we're sitting comfortably! I hope this bill died a swift death.

I just finished reading this and was wondering when the RIAA was gonna regulate what volume you can listen to your music at. What, sorry past 7.0 decibel and 5.1 surround is considered "concert sound" can't have that at home need to have it registered. Yea, I know about the volume regulated iPods in Europe just TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

That was something the telecomunications industry had been trying to do for ages. But honestly: "The bill would require that any hardware manufactured in the future contain technology that tells the MPAA directly of what is being shown and specific details on the audience. The data would be gathered using various motion sensors and biometric technology." This is... I don't even know how to put it, you really think they'd put in widgets to take biometic data on anyone watching a dvd? They're a bunch of evil bastards, yes, but mostly just send C&Ds and censor swear words needlessly.

This article is about as unbelievable as TV executives stating that using Tivo to skip commercials amounts to stealing. Unfortunately, that's what many of them have already stated. I knew it was fake the second they were talking about using biometric data to monitor the audience. I do like the idea of the MPAA banning their own personally created industry of Home Theatre (the DVD market). I look forward to the sequel article where you only buy a license to see a movie from a certain perspective in the theatre and you have to wear blinders to prevent unauthorized perspectives. Oh looks like you can only afford to see the movie looking from the extreme left of the theatre.
