^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Edit: This still looks great, but wasn't the ground originally reddish-purple? Another :krad: on the pile... Suggestions: A neutral zone from Bionic Commando. It has a uniform sky colour (light blue), and fairly low buildings (compared to the main levels). Either that, the Hitler-helicopter, or the final explosion where you're hanging on the chopper (The sky is essentially black, and the explosion is on the far right, so it wouldn't interfere, though this might be too 'busy' for a good desktop) Screenshots: http://www.lowta.cx/upload/c/commando1.gif http://www.lowta.cx/upload/c/commando2.gif http://www.lowta.cx/upload/c/commando3.gif http://www.lowta.cx/upload/c/commando4.gif I like to hold fuzzy little animals and give them huggie-wuggies. I'm working on capping the NES marble madness levels. Do with them what you will. I might make backgrounds out of them when I've got them all done. This is, of course, assuming I can finish marble madness with a laptop keyboard. Jesus it's hard. Level 1 Level 2 ... more as I make them... reethaxor fucked around with this message at 20:42 on Jun 23, 2003 |

Attempted an Out of this World background. Aborting. The screens won't match without a lot of artificial buffering between each one.

my first post on sa so if something is screwed up that's the excuse I'm using I don't think it looks that great but I wanted to do it cause someone else mentioned it, Metroid (NES) is actually really easy for this kind of thing because of how the levels are set up and displayed you could get really crazy and show the rooms on top of rooms and to the right and left and fill an entire desktop without raising the original game resolution if you wanted, not sure how that would look but I bet it's do'able, and as a bonus your health is usually over a black background so easy to work around. just tried the very first room, which is pretty boring but you get an idea of what stuff looks like http://ejectbutton.com/images/sa/metroid_1135x224.png

Right right my bad :D The marble madness one is really cool, but I'm doing some manual editing to not make it like... well lemme show you what I got done so far. Those things on the left are just easy cut out layers I can copy to add in and play with. Those shadowed ones are going to be tricky, but I'll get it... I'm not trying to lengthen the map, just not making it solid cut off on the sides so it will be a cool centered wallpaper... Ya dig, homies?

quote:Robot Hobo came out of the closet to say: I got an awesome idea for you... end those trees a LOT lower... copy/paste clouds from my Mario ones... then run a gradient from that nice blue up into dark blue and into black for the top sky part... That would make yours really cool, and you've done a kick rear end job so far!

quote:PovRayMan came out of the closet to say: Thanks for the  Here's how I did this one: 1) Disable the background layer (it scrolls at a different pace) 2) Go someplace, disable the sprite layer, take a screenshot, and reenable the sprite layer 3) Using your pic editor (I use Gimp), put all these on a layer, magic-wand cut the transparent sections 4) Repeat to get the backgroud layer. 5) Here, the background was only a small pic, so I stretched it full screen. 6) On another layer, add some sprites 7) Fix for bottom spacing. I use a 46 pixel gap, this is my taskbar height. I started this one as soon as I finished the Battletoad racer, so it took me... about 1h30

quote:reethaxor came out of the closet to say: I selected Marble Madness once for a Christmas present in November, when I was ten. It was a horrible thing, waiting a month and a half to play it. After Christmas rolled around, I played the thing constantly. I had forgotten all about this (16 years ago), but seeing those levels it all comes back. I remember the properties of each of those surfaces, the way the pipes looked when you used them, the evil slinkies, the *crack* of that black marble as it lunged at you... I'm going to use one of those levels as my background now, centered against a black background. F0 0F C7 C8

It was an awesome paste together map of screenshots from every outdoor screen in the SNES zelda 3. It even had death mountain inset into the top right hand corner. If anyone has this, please share. It would be a heap of effort to put together.

quote:PovRayMan came out of the closet to say: Well, all I have done so far are SNES images, which can handle 5 layers (4 in parallax scrolling + 1 sprite layer). On most emulators (I use ZSNES), you can toggle these layers, usually via the '1' to '5' keys. When taking screenshots, the emu will save what's on the screen, so the disabled layers won't show. This is a necessity, otherwise it is impossible to match the pictures. If I remember correctly, the NES has 2 layers, a main one and a sprite one. I don't have a NES emu installed, so I can't confirm it.
