Directed by: Luis Bunuel
Starring: Julien Bertheau and a lot of other french people

Written by Luis Bunuel and Jean-Claude Carriere

Absurd comedy that drifts aimlessly from situation to situation, character to character, introducing new plot threads and happily discarding them with no regard for resolution. Comical situations revolve around confusion and nonsense. One of my personal favorites of the non-sequiturs is the scene where a little girl is coached to recognize various species of spiders on flashcards.
Like most other Bunuel films it becomes a tad tedious, but this one makes up for it with perhaps the greatest surprise ending ever filmed anywhere on the planet any time in history.

4/5

Nice try, asshole

I liked the unusual structure and the humor and the surrealness of it all, but at times it played like a Saturday Night Live episode. Lots of underdeveloped little skits based on simple premises. What if you thought your daughter was missing... and she was right there?? What if people ate discreetly... and used the potty at the dinner table?? What if there were a bunch of monks... who smoked and played poker?? You get the idea. It's funny, but it's really not that funny. Also, it's got a sort of low-budget feel to it. Rating: 3.5
