I'm not exactly sure what evidence Andy could have had, but he defintely did alert the authorities of the murder of the dude he was tutoring because the warden slams a newspaper down on his desk that says, "Murder, Corruption at Shawshank".

Anyway, this is easily my favourite movie of all-time, I must have watched it at least a dozen times now. Everything is perfect. The acting, plot, pacing, soundtrack, everything. It's already been said in this thread.
