This is without a doubt my favorite movie, and probably one of my ten favorite stories in print. The movie is capable in many different aspects, but the cinematography is what seals the deal for me. As with a lot of other movies I love (LOTR Trilogy, Apacalypse Now, Braveheart, Amelie) it is able to transport you to a different time and a different place through that *magic* of cinematography. Once you are hooked by the imagery, the humanity and the universal themes of freedom and friendship are easily digested... or I could just be a big sap.
