This movie was annoying, you just wanted to slap her and yell "HE LOVES YOU, YOU IDIOT". Grrr, voted 3.

I just finished watching this film, and felt similarly to the way I felt after watching another of Haneke's films, "Funny Games"--fascinated, amazed, and thoroughly uncomfortable.

However, I enjoyed this film far more than "Funny Games," simply because Isabelle Huppert does such an amazing job of portraying the emotional wasteland that is Erika Kohut. To watch as Erika gradually draws her student/lover into her sick fantasies, reaching out to him in an attempt to both control and be controlled, is as fascinating as it is disturbing. To see the effects that her mind games and sexual power play eventually bring out in him is riveting, as is the horror and wrenching sadness of Erika's decline.

Try not to read too much about this movie before you see it, since many reviews are going to emphasize the more "perverse" aspects of this movie. This is a great movie about people, love, sex and loneliness that is as stunning as it is disturbing.

One of the most totally disgusting and disturbing movies I've ever seen, made worse by my classical piano training. I couldn't think of anything sexually related for weeks afterwards without feeling hollow and dirty inside.

go home, Frank.
Tuning into this halfway through the film will destroy all sense of semblance and leave you disorientated for quite awhile after seeing it, only to wonder what the gently caress just happened. Is she mentally disturbed? Sado-masochistic? Playing with her mothers toys? All three? Had this not been "artsy" and foreign, Americans would have been disugsted (or perhaps fascinated) by the shallow, rotten feel this movie leaves.
