Directed by: Akira Kurosawa Starring: Toshirô Mifune Another movie by the incomparable Kurosawa, this is the story of the ronin Sanjuro (Mifune), who arrives at a town divided by two rival gangs. He decides to play the gangs against each other to free the town. Mifune is fantastic in his role as Sanjuro. He doesn't talk much over the course of the movie, but has a screen presence rarely seen today. The general plot of the movie has been copied several times, most notably in Sergio Leone's breakthrough 'A Fistful of Dollars' and more recently in 'Last Man Standing' starring Bruce Willis. The original is still way better as far as I'm concerned. The fight scenes in the movie, although few in number, are quite impressive, and there's one scene in particular that made my jaw drop by its sheer awesomeness. Most people seem to rank this movie as Kurosawa's second best after 'Seven Samurai', but in this movie Mifune has really come into his own as an actor and is a pure joy to watch. The best movie I have ever seen. RATING: 5.5 PROS: Excellent story, acting, cinematography CONS: Can't think of any ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://imdb.com/title/tt0055630/

Yojimbo, 7 Samurai and The Hidden Fortress (once that film gets threaded) get auto-5's from me.

Great movie, but I think Sanjuro, it's companion piece is better. They both get 5's though.

one of Mifune's/Kurosawa's best, really, just a very excellent film. i like it more than Sanjuro because it's darker and just comes off as more serious, but they're both great. 5.
