Directed by: David Semel
Starring: Josh Jackson, DJ Qualls, Jaime King, Ryan Hurst, Matthew Davis

Lone Star State of Mind is a Crimedy set in a small town in Texas. Josh Jackson plays Earl Crest, a local Mechanic known for protecting his friends and cleaning up their messes. His fiance and stepsister, Baby(Jaime King), decides she wants to move to Hollywood to be a soap opera star, and wants Earl to go with her. Unfortunately for Earl, he is perfectly happy being himself and living in good old Texas.

Then comes the twist. Junior(DJ Qualls), Baby's cousin, and the local miscreant/troublemaker Tinker(Ryan Hurst) rip off a pizza guy who is carrying a large amount of cash and 4 bricks of cocaine for some reason. Earl finds out when Junior is spreading money around the local bar, and because he has promised Baby he would take care of Junior decides to force Junior and Tinker to give the goods and money back to whoever they stole it from while not alerting Andy, the local Sheriff.

The rest of the movie is a caper of small town proportions as Tinker trys to get the money back from Earl and things just go all to hell.

Josh Jackson is supported well by his Co-star Ryan Matthews who plays Jimbo, an openly Gay man who has never actually gone out on a date. The best part of this movie is Jackson, who plays his part deadpan and lets out quite a few absolutely hilarious remarks all the while keeping the same Texan Accent and not letting it slip. He is very convincing as the hero of this story. Ryan Hurst is very entertaining for all of his mixed metaphors and references, but the way he screams every word he says gets kind of annoying after a while.

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly when I rented it, mostly due to the believability of the characters, and the almost plausible plot. Jackson does a superb job and I wouldn't mind seeing him play the main role in more movies.
RATING: 4

PROS: The Humour, Plot, and Characters
CONS: Hearing Ryan Hurst talk
