I doubt that Rheinhard is actually gay, but probably has the warrior mentally that things other than warfare, or softer pursuits (like women) make men weak. It wouldn't be surprising considering the warrior culture of the Empire.

No wonder then that there is so much fighting, too much boot stomping and not enough boot knocking.

In the prequels, Reinhardt has a conversation with Kircheis that makes it pretty clear that they both prefer women but that they're just not that interested yet, or something to that effect.

Yeah, I know that both of them are straight. Kircheis is all over Annerose, after all. Sometimes they just fawn over each other excessively.

Not in the lovely Golden Wings movie! :v:

Now I sort of wish I hadn't deleted that movie in a fit of irritation after sitting through it once. Then I could at least produce some screenshots of any one of the multiple moments featuring Reinhard running his fingers through Kircheis's hair ever-so-gently. It's ridiculous, though not quite as hilariously over-the-top gay as the main antagonist, who looks like a drag queen in uniform.

At last !
The wait was worth it though, I thought that episode excellent. Now the mood is clearly different from the previous seasons, it's more melancholic and the characters aren't fighting the same fight, still it's very palpable (just like in the previous seasons) that it's largely the events driving the characters and not the other way round.
Also, <3 Beethoven symphonies <3

It sort of got me at the end, how Katerose gets crossed off the list. At first, I thought, "yay, she'll be alright, and Attenborough gets his chance!" And then I thought, "oh wait, that means the guy we're really rooting for, Julian, doesn't get his."

I like how this show plays with your emotions like that. Hell, I've even felt for whatsisname the President of the Alliance, and he's supposed to be a spineless jerk.

It's hard to see in the Central Anime version since they're from the older unrestored footage, but at 22m 45s, a small circle of red lights blinks on. That's when you're supposed to say "oh gently caress"

Man of Wax

I think episode 70 proved once again what we have known all along: Louis Mashengo is a loving animal.

Also, I'd like to point out that, as amusing as Poplan can be, he is actually an incredibly sick person, in my opinion. He takes the flying ace mentality to extremes that even Tom Wolfe has never considered and, in fact, is some sort of obsessive freak. He may well be the most single-minded womanizer in the history of man, fictional or otherwise.

Is that one of those $700 chairs with twenty different levers on it? Anyway, CA has been offered R2s before and they don't seem to want them. They don't like the digital alterations or the removal of the overlays when characters are introduced. Frankly, I'm with them in that regard.

I think that the biggest deal in the "restored" versions is that a lot of the space-combat stuff is 3D animation instead of painted cel.

I can imagine that it wouldn't be hard to animate LoGH stuff--the spaceships are basically flying rectangles with the occasional fillet. And nothing transforms! LoGH would almost seem like a vacation after something like "Macross Zero".

One problem I've had with this show is that you have to be in a sort of zone for it. If you're ADD like I am, the sheer awesome portrayed in some scenes is so distracting that you stop paying attention for a minute or so, at which point you have no idea what's going on and have to run it back. I tend to have the same problem with Gundam, though, so take it as you will.

The bootlegs posted over at BoxTorrents are ripped from the HKs, which are in turn copied from the R2s. Those have the digitally altered scenes. The Gaiden was originally made with cel and CGI animation, but I don' recall much 3D work.

From what I've seen, it's basically the same action and composition as in the original, only reproduced in 3D. The result is that you have the same action but without the perspective issues on starships that turn or maneuver on-screen. It isn't like "Revenge of the Sith" where each side has all 10,000 ships on the screen at once.

Defiler

By the way.. the restored versions do have the name overlays. They're just on a subtitle track (which is great, because it makes them easy to translate in bulk.)

I'm irritated that CA doesn't translate the overlays, actually. They almost always have extra information in them that isn't in the English/German text alongside.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Then came the space battle in 51, which started slow with people catching fire and getting sucked out into space, then progressed into blinded men missing limbs colliding with eachother (one of whom fell onto exposed wiring and gets electrocuted), neatly segued into a guy holding his exposed guts and other organs in his hands while vomitting blood, and finally ended with a guy crawling on the floor since his legs are gone, leaving a trail of blood and intestines while crying for him mother.

Man, Star Trek never had any of that :wth:

Edit: Oh cool, a guy getting his face melted off and burning, impaled bodies everywhere. :wtc: was the change in management that resulted in this episode? I'm not complaining, though, it really complements the plot and isn't done just for the sake of it.

I think in this case it was more of a depiction of the visceral devastation of warfare - too often you see only TEH SHIPSES BLOWEDED UP and not the horror of the wounded bird going down. It's a bit like modern war fiction, where the final moments of a sinking ship or breached submarine are depicted.
