Here's the SRAW footage I was talking about. First off we have a SRAW Predator warhead destroying a tank. http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...786517344317005 Then we have some footage of the SRAW Multi-Purpose Variant (MPV) destroying various things. http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...776529385244863 And then there's the informational video about how the weapon works. http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...441422835066992 Oh, and some pictures from the ISMT I was running of the SRAW's we got: http://dslyecxi.com/images/ismt/sraw_held.jpg http://dslyecxi.com/images/ismt/sraw_prepped.JPG http://dslyecxi.com/images/ismt/sraw_readme.jpg http://dslyecxi.com/images/ismt/sraw_scope.jpg Dslyecxi fucked around with this message at Jul 1, 2006 around 17:15 |

I remember when it first got posted, people went apeshit because they chaingunned "people who were just standing around by a truck" I can add something to this. One of the guys on the Shack that I know was actually stationed in the area when that incident happened (it was near Baghdad International Airport), he had buddies who went out and cleaned up after it with Graves Registration and helped to tow away the vehicles. Apparently it was a homemade mortar/rocket launcher system that attached to the tractor. The insurgents were doing night attacks from a field outside the perimeter, they'd shoot rockets and mortars at the lights at night trying to hit something. An Apache staked the area out, caught some of them, and took them out as you see on the video.

Is that typical or was it just due to the circumstances you describe? What you say sort of solves a mystery for me. I always wondered why those guys just sort of hung around while a helicopter was somewhere within earshot. I guess if they're by the airport they probably wouldn't take terribly large notice of helicopters flying around them. What is still strange, though, is that the Apache actually fires a short burst before the main show but those guys still don't notice! If you watch at about 2:10 in the video you'll hear the chain gun go and afterwards notice their ammo count has dropped to around 290. Are most insurgents deaf or something? Also, what the hell did your friend actually find in that field afterwards? I don't imagine 30mm cannon round leave much behind.

It's allways 'Allah Ackbar' this, 'Allah Ackbar' that. I think the tried and tested 'YAAAAAH-HAH-HAHAHAHA!" works pretty well when explosions are involved. Maybe people should stick to onomatopoeias for this sort of thing. "BADABOOM!" cmdrthac0 posted:What you say sort of solves a mystery for me. I know it's always been said that this is gun camera footage from an Apache, but to my untrained eye, I always sorta thought that it seemed more like footage from an AC-130. Mainly due to the fairly wide circling pattern you can see the camera's POV making. Is it really the way they normally do it with Apaches, circling their target like that from long range?
