Here's a couple of local Portland Oregon bands that I loving LOVE. SMOOCHKNOB A local Portland Oregon band that's pretty great. It's rock... not terribly poppy, but really fun. Here is their song... KUNG FU http://www.smoochknob.com/smoochknob%20cream/Kung-Fu.mp3 Here is their song... Crank-O-American http://www.smoochknob.com/smoochknob%20cream/Crank-O-American.mp3 Here's a link to more of their music: http://www.smoochknob.com/sk_music.htm And... Dr Theopolis. They are a FUNK/HIP HOP band full of short white guys and are pretty amazing. http://www.drtheopolis.com/music/ None of these are full MP3's... but are a pretty good sampling of their music. I highly recommend FABULOUS and ASTRONOMICAL and VOICE OF THE FUTURE If you like and want to buy, you can download these songs for a buck a pop here... http://www.oldschoolhouserock.com/oscommerce/catalog/index.php?cPath=29

One of my best friends has finally compiled her demo ep and for some short amount of time she's having it available for download and/or you can buy a copy for $7 shipped if you dig it. Please please check her out. She's living in Portland, and does really catchy quirky electropop and is an amazing talented gorgeous girl. She just recently opened for Ladytron, too! http://www.michelewylen.com/ Under media you'll find her downloads.

OKay guys, a friend's band gave me permission to offer their music on bittorrent. Thus far, I've only got it uploaded to demonoid. http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/565852/1884346/ The Sugar Plum Fairies. I can't really describe 'em. They go from some White Stripes kinda stuff, to a little bit more hard rock. I guess Alternative, but they're also a tad indie, I guess. Give them a try. They're totally free. Always worth posting some Cardiacs MP3's for the curious: http://www.cardiacs.com/downloads/ Very much a love or hate band and quite hard to categorize. I like the combination of quite complex progish structure with (post)punk energy. Think The Pixies playing Genesis covers. If you only download one go for Fiery Gun Hand.

loscil, a Kranky veteran who specialises in pretty minimal / ambient electronic music released an entire album, "Stases" in 2005 on the netlabel "one". The one site is down at the moment, but the album is mirrored here. "Stases" is just calm, beatless, submerged ambient drone of the highest quality. If that's the kind of thing you're into

coolbian57 posted:http://music.download.com/beholdthearctopus/3600-8673_32-100822446.html Coincidentally, this was the only band out of at least 50 which interested me as I was browsing through the download.com music section (as in, before I read this post). It's like The Dillinger Escape Plan meets Dragonforce, thoroughly recommended. To contribute, for the few people out there who have managed to somehow avoid hearing any Sigur Rós tracks, there is a great selection on their website. By great, I mean they are a very well chosen selection of songs which effectively introduce new listeners to the band.

Chairman Matt posted:Always worth posting some Cardiacs MP3's for the curious: Good call on the Cardiacs, comrade Chairman. I recommend searching Youtube for "Cardiacs Tarred and Feathered." A song-a-day, 365 day long collection of outsider music, which ranges from high school band rock covers to disco accordion freakouts. Great for the comedy if not always the musicianship. http://www.ubu.com/outsiders/365/ New Jersey radio station WFMU is passionately devoted to the free MP3, streaming and otherwise, and their blog is a densely populated bastion of music nerds and record enthusiasts. They've actually just started another 365 day project, too. (Also: check out the recent post that contains every known cover of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Grieg.) http://blog.wfmu.org/ The entire discography of the Desperate Bicycles, this ramshackle postpunk band, which is completely unavailable anywhere else. Advice on Arrest is the best song. http://www.derekerdman.com/ilovemilkshakes/october2004/Desperate_Bicycles_Anthology/desperatebicycles.htm

Parker House and Theory advertise themselves as "Harmonica laced funk rock." Saw them over the summer at a 311 music festival and I really liked their stuff. There's about an albumn and a half of mp3's to download on their website http://www.parkerhouseandtheory.com/index2.php Under media, and music & lyrics you can select the songs to listen to or download. There's some funky issues with their flash and windows I think. I've only been able to download what they have on a mac. Didn't try much after that though. If you only listen to one - make it 'bury it low.'
