LOL, ONLY DUMB PEOPLE WORK AT MCDONALD'S
Get over yourself, douchebag.
Directed by: Justin Lin
Starring: Lucas Black, Nathalie Kelley, Sonny Chiba

quote:

Plot: In order to avoid a jail sentence, Sean Boswell heads to Tokyo to live with his military officer uncle. In a low-rent section of the city, Shaun gets caught up in the underground world of drift racing.

Drift racing has been around for a long time now. Why it is big in Tokyo vs anywhere else is beyond me. The whole movie is focused around this one technique that I have been using in Gran Turismo to get around tight corner since day 1. Enough of that though on with the review.

If you enjoyed FatF and 2F2F than you will undoubtedly enjoy this movie as it has the same crashes and thrills as the first. Even more so I would suggest. I enjoyed this movie, plot aside because of the action. The plot had more holes than swiss cheese.
The main character starts out by getting into a debate with Clay, a kid who you would recognize as one of the kids from the old sitcom Home Improvment. Sean is then forced to race around a newly developed housing complex. The one rich kid has a Viper and our main hero has a Buick with a pretty nice hood scoop, but like this movie the rest of the car is pretty much trashy looking.

Anyways he gets into trouble as the plot line suggests and for some reason has to mvoe away to avoid being put in jail. Now I don't know much about being arrested orwhat kinda deal I need to get to be sent to Japan instead of Jail, but please sign me up if I ever do.

So it goes from the police station to Sean arriving in his Uncles place in some low rent section of Japan. His uncles tells him no cars and stay out of trouble. Well day 1 at the new school and BOOM, insert Token Black Guy selling poo poo on the market. This is played off by Bow-Wow. He even has the new Jordans even LeBraun James can't get. So they become friends... fast and furious. Bow-Wow even lets Sean drive his Incredible Hulk Mobile. Sorry to spoil it for you.

This leads Sean into the world of Drift Racing. I wont go on from here because it's pretty much a steaming pile of lovely dialogue and uselss plot points. However if you ignore all of that you get a pretty good racing movie with some really slick stunts that make you think... Wow this is some slick stuff that I need to try as soon as I leave the theater.

All in all the movie starts out with a really good race scene and the rest of the race scenes are pretty well done. Even better than part 1 and 2 really. The ending has a nice little surprise that you can probably guess if you look at the cast list for FF3. I wont go into it here, but even that has some plot holes in it as well.

To sum it up - good racing, good crashing, lovely plot and dialogue.

RATING: 3.5

PROS: Nice Cars, Good Looking Woman, Car Chases/ crashes, Sonny Chiba
CONS: Plot, dialogue

This movie is utter poo poo. First of all, lets ignore any automotive knowledge raping here. They had too many laughable references to racing or drifting for that matter. The entire main "japanse" cast spoke broken japanese AND english. gently caress. That alone was laughable.

Horrible CGs. Horrible Cast. Horrible Acting, Plot. Nevermind, there isnt a single good thing except one:

Pros:
Surprise appearance by somebody we all love

ConsL
Everything else. Even the main chick looked like a baseball homebase.

Yeah.. I thought the movie was decent, but that made me laugh alot, along with the japanese people dancing to like linkin park and jay-z trying to be gangster. And the plot was typical "try to get the girl you can't have and race a bad guy to get her back".

With films like this, you have to look at the predecessors and then judge it accordingly. Having said that, I found this movie actually pretty decent. My expectations weren't high especially after 1 and 2, and this met them for the most part. The acting was nothing special, decent at times, funny at times, but the lead is a bit better than Paul Walker especially with the poo poo they're given in the scripts. Also, this time around the cars actually played a big role in the movie and weren't just window dressing like they were in 2F2F. The whole drifting focus of the movie was done in a fun way without getting too technical which fit in with the overall tone of the movie. It was a fun 90 minutes and more interesting right off the bat because of EVIL ZACHERY TY BRYAN, I mean, because of the change in locale.

I'll admit, the female star of the movie looks like Vanessa Minillo got hit with a frying pan, but she's definitely hotter than Devon Aoki from 2F2F who looks like a porcelain doll come to life.

RATING: 3.5

PROS: Nice Cars and car chases, well utilized cameos, entertaining.
CONS: Soooo predictable and some very cheesy scenes, but that comes with the territory.

I'll admit, I'm not into car movies at all, but I went to see it with my racing-obsessed roommate, and honestly I didn't think it was a total shitheap. The majority of the movie seemed like an alongated rap music video combined with a cell phone commercial. The Neela character loving blew my mind with her inability to maintain a particular accent. Was she American, or was she British?

The action, however, kicked rear end. The cinematography was great. Everytime a car hit an obstacle I cringed and wanted to pull the driver right out. I laughed quite a bit as well. The Japanese thugs looked like characters straight out of Double Dragon.

All-in-all, too much use of movie logic -- but then again, I'm not much of an action movie buff. It did keep me on edge, though.

RATING 3

PROS The kid from home improvement nearly dies.

CONS If I wanted to watch a rap music video, I'd turn on BET.

Questing ain't easy
This movie gets a 3 because I recognized a lot of the streets around Tokyo. It was pretty obvious what was going to happen. The race/chase through that one intersection crowded with people was pretty neat. However, how does an O-3 in the navy make so little money to buy such a crappy little spot.

This movie was really loving awful :~} I wanted a fun flick, but the pretty interesting car chases don't nearly make up for the lovely EVERYTHING.

I didn't find any of the actresses attractive either, and I especially hated the girl Helmet Jap showed because of how annoying her character was.

AG: 8ut I was such a confused kid! I didn't know anything a8out what killing really means.
This movie was pretty goddamn terrible, and the only thing that really even kind of made it enjoyable was yelling out GO SPEED RACER GOOOOO! Every once in awhile.

This movie was pretty bad. The dialogue, plot, characters, and premise were all retarded, but the car scenes sort of made up for it. Sort of.

Pros:
- Car scenes

Cons:
- "Sean... have you been... racing?"
- "You see, I don't just think outside the box. I tear it up."
- "Fine, we'll settle this once and for all... with a race."

Good races, laughably bad everything else.

I watched this last night, I enjoyed the first Fast & the Furious, never saw the second, but I had hopes Tokyo Drift would keep me entertained for 90 minutes.

NOPE.

Pros
- Bow Wow gets the poo poo kicked out of him
- DK does stand for Donkey Kong

Cons
- Everything else.
- Even the races sucked.

You know, I've got a funny feeling I've seen this all before.
I saw this movie in France. In French dubbing. I don't speak a word of French. I still understood EVERYTHING.

It's that shallow.

Posing along since 2005
I swear to God I didn't remember the protagonist's name as soon as I got out of the theatre. The story was really dumb and shallow, and so were the characters. However, the real drifting and the imagery in general looked hella nice. However, since that was all I was expecting from the get go, I ended up being pleased with what I saw.

Plus I got to see the soccer kid from Home Improvement and Mr. Fast and Furious himself.

PROS: Nice imagery, really loving loud boom tisk music, cameos
CONS: Dumbass story, dumbass Texan drawl that the main guy has, dumbass lots of things.

I'm giving it a 3.5 because it was everything I was hoping that it would be, and then some.

I laughed at the silly redneck destroying cars, I laughed at the silly redneck with family issues, and I even laughed at the silly redneck being in Tokyo. Nothing could have prepared me for how much I'd laugh at the very end of this film.

Hated the first two movies, but this one wasn't too horrible. The opening scene reminded me a lot of where I went to highschool, so I was kind of rooting for Sean. Sure, lovely story, cliche racing-for-chicks crap. Cars were not all that bad. Excellent driving and nice scenery. Fun movie if you leave your elitist cinemaphile brain at the door.

While the movie isn't very great, it does have some neat chase scenes. The one near the end with the Mustang is almost poetic. I went to this movie for cars, and cars were delivered.
