If I had to guess in the 'worst rider ever' video that guy would probably smoke 98% of the people here on a dirtbike. He's clearly got some/a bit of experience on the dirt. He's pushing the bike below him and sitting mostly upright, probably influenced by the upright riding position of the bike. He looks pretty relaxed on the bike and while his lines aren't tight he's not weaving all over the track.

Also hold onto the tank with your knees, at least while you're learning, because the last thing you want to do is panic and pull the bars back past the balance point.

Life is rough when you ride a Suzuki :(

I get waves on one of mine, but I'm 90% sure it's because they think it's a Harley.

I have a DRZ too and I can't hold on for poo poo with my knees. The tank is just too slick.

I get waves because no one remembers what a GS500e looks like.

Also echoing Slavvy re: clutch up wheelies being way scarier than just rolling on the throttle and pulling back on the bars.

Have you ever done a wheelie? Whiskey throttle you immediately close doesn't count.

Dec 11, 2012

I'm able to just snap the throttle open in first and wait until I hit the redline and the front comes back down but the thought of using the clutch still frightens me. I've tried it a couple of times in second gear and I just lose the stomach for it, plus I'm afraid of damaging the bike.

Just buy a crappy (red) dirt bike to practice on.

Apparently the most common mistake people make when learning to wheelie is trying to use the arms to keep their body in place (either to stop falling back or to stop themselves sliding on the seat) and that can change your CoG enough to take you straight past the balance point (or, worst case, make them pull the throttle open a bit further).

I say apparently because wheelying is silly and irresponsible behaviour and certainly nothing that I've ever tried to do.

I have never seen tank grips on a supermoto, really I haven't seen them on anything but a sport bike. You sure this isn't sacrilege?

Balance point is a lot higher than you think and I have no idea how using your arms to hold your body in place will change the CoG.

I think the point is Z3n is a space cowboy on the edge of a frontier unknown to man, he's out there pushing the limits, trail braking into the abyss. Finding out where the edge of the razor is, turning to face the darkness and revving his 690 into it's vast gaze. You gotta live this to learn it bro.
Yeah it's more that as you lift the front, the amount of throttle needed to maintain the wheelie is less the higher you go. So if you don't roll out as you approach balance point, you're gonna loop that poo poo. As you slide backwards on the seat, you tend to open the throttle, and over the falls you go.

The surest sign of a lovely rider is they they're stuffing people on the opening laps and getting passed like they're chained to a post for the rest of the session.

Oh, and the inconsistent lines, the random missing apexes, the random gear choices, keeping it in the limiter rather than shifting back into the power...

You'd think that, but he's been uploading videos for a few years and you can pretty much pick one at random to see the same risky riding.

He was involved in a fatal accident a while back...when he hit someone with his truck.
