I was referring more to the "rich urban biker" crowd. There's no shame in not riding in the cold. Just 'cause some people do it, doesn't mean it's for everyone.

FuzzyWuzzyBear posted:That bike is gross but you have to admire the effort put into it. He's a pretty hardcore rally rider, from what I understand. Most of the serious rally competitors run multiple GPS units, and quite a few have auxiliary fuel tanks, massive lighting upgrades and all sorts of electrics. The super long distance rally guys are their own type of crazy. I admire them for what they can pull off, even if I don't quite want to do it myself.

Thelonious posted:Jesus christ. Why is everybody so damned intent on practicing roadside medicine? Because the unfortunate truth is that accidents happen, and there are places where cell coverage is non-existent, or that are so far out it will take 30+ minutes (on a good day!) for an ambulance to reach you. The last accident my wife and I stopped at to help, another guy had to go ride up the road for another 15minutes before he got enough cell coverage to call 911. Reasons like this are why I encourage everyone who rides to take a CPR class, and learn basic first aid. Would you rather have someone with half a clue taking charge of your accident scene, or would you rather have a bunch of people who mean well but are completely ignorant standing there doing nothing, or worse, moving you?

needknees posted:Guy I compete with in the nerdiest form of racing (r/c ) just built this in preparation for some big gravel ride up in WI. He bought a wrecked Ninja 650 and gave it an adventure bike makeover. Older RM forks, a (much longer the stocker) R1 shock, some spoked wheels and dual sport tires and you get this. That's loving awesome, I'd ride the poo poo out of it.
