My friend asked me the other night to help him identify a movie he saw parts of when he was younger. I can't think of it but maybe you can help us.

What he remembers from the movie is it looked like it was from the 70's or 80's and took place in an old west type setting, but everyone was dressed in modern-ish clothing. He said the end of the movie had this orange, "lovecraftian" octopus like monster, and there were fireballs or something falling from the sky.

It sounds like he mostly caught the end of it, he's got a really good memory though, and we're both sure it's all one movie. That's about as accurate as he could get though.

Oh, he said the main character's name was "Lovejoy" or something, but he wasn't quite sure of that part.

George Takei plays a character named Doc Valentine and there's some weird rear end monster in there.

To be honest I watched it when I was 5 or 6 and remember very little, but that trailer should probably ring some bells.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Once Upon a Forest. It took me a while to find because I watched it as a kid but never knew the title.

Alright I only got through about 30 minutes of this one movie before I had to split. It was on the comedy channel, and it was about an ex convict guy who wanted revenge on another dude who was running for mayor or governor or some such. So during one of the campaign speeches that the mayor guy was having the ex-con snuck into his car and used up all of the mayor mans inhaler, and on the side hocked a loogie into his coffee. After the speech the mayor starts going into an asthma attack and tries to use the inhaler to find that it is empty so he pulls into a pharmacy and starts knocking a bunch of crap around trying to find an inhaler he can use, all the while an Asian couple that run the store start freaking out thinking that he is a junkie trying to raid their store. After the events ex mayor guy gets charged with prison time. The ex-con isn't quite satisfied with his revenge so he plans to go to the prison with the mayor and make his prison time even more of a hell. And that's about where I got.

What's that movie about the really dumb guy who falls in love with a beautiful girl and tries to learn to read in order to impress her? I saw it on TCM years ago. 50s-60s, Color.
