ADTRWiki

ADTRWIKI.com is an open-source collaborative effort between all members of SA who have maybe at some point in the past enjoyed a show about anime and think that other people might enjoy it too. If someone's looking for a good show and don't perhaps know exactly what they're looking for, this is the place to browse. It's a repository of the good shows we've watched over the years and has opinions, links where you can find more information, and opinions of SA members of the shows they've watched.

Notes
  • :siren:You must be approved to do basically anything that isn't looking at pages.:siren: Post in this thread so Nate RFB or I can approve you and you can start making and editing.
  • This isn't meant to be a comprehensible encyclopedia of anime. We want writeups and (most importantly) opinions on series that people have enjoyed and/or think others would enjoy, not just a volumous recording of all the bad shows we've subjected ourselves to over the years.
  • No porn.
  • It isn't as hard as it looks. There is an editing guideline linked on the front page of the wiki that details all the different formatting, none of it is any more complex than using the tags here. Take a shot at it!
  • Joke/parody pages. Unless they're really funny.
  • Don't just make stub pages. If you don't like a series enough to make a full page on it, opinion and all, you probably shouldn't.
  • If the wiki goes down then one of us is just loving with code. Pay no attention to the goon behind the curtain, it'll be back up shortly.

I can't find you when I search for "XboxPants" (EDIT: Or I could look at the user list... :downs: )

I made a Haibane Renmei entry as a quick test, and noticed:

1. "Licensed" is spelled wrong in the info box.
2. We should add a field for "Format," stating whether the entry is an Anime(TV/OVA/Movie) or Manga.
3. Is current status referring to whether the show is licensed, or whether it's finished?
4. Maybe, for manga, we should change the "Number of Episodes" to "Number of Episodes/Volumes:" That way either format has an option. "Episode Length" would just be set to "N/A" for Manga.
5. Eventually we should set up an index that shows all of the entries entered thus far.
All good points, changes have been made. I also removed the 'Anime Name' from the template since it was entirely redundant as page names display it anyway.

Is there any clean way to list multiple opening/ending songs? I'm attempting a Honey & Clover entry which has 5 songs total and it looks like hell. Even worse, think of a series like Bleach that has upwards of a dozen or more. Maybe Op/Eds should be in the body instead of the info box.

Oh God I never thought of that. Good idea, implemented.

VVV You've got a point there. I think we should keep episode length/# of episodes and the company/director that made them at least because that gives a general idea of how long the series is and the creators because everyone likes that kind of thing. Should we keep those four and get rid of the others?

Maybe this can be a case by case basis - when there's a director who's pretty much doing the whole show, like Satoshi Kon or Miyazaki, then you would list a director, but if it's Naruto or something where there's a random director for every episode, that's not very important, and you don't list any director information.

Also, "format" doesn't need to say "anime/manga" on the final page, that's redundant; same thing for "status".
The thing about the Template:Infobox page is, you can have dozens of lines in the template page, and then only use the ones you think are neccessary in the series page. Any you choose not to add info for won't be shown.

Edit: no, it appears I'm dead wrong. You can add new fields to the infobox template but you can't not show ones currently there. Oh well.

Nate, take a look at the :hr: page. If you don't have a problem with it shall we use that as the standard template so we can stop messing around with layouts? Basically eveything that isn't the short synopsis (i.e. music, character bios, website links etc) can go into sub-headings under Main Description as the writer feels the need to add them, and the infobox kept to the bare minimum of info?

All approved.
It's up to everyone, but honestly I'd rather keep it simple and just have it be for shows. There could be a section for stuff like Melty Blood and the like though, so it's not out of the question.

One question I have is making an index...couldn't we just make a "Recommendation Index" page, and update it with each new entry? Seems to my primitive wiki mind that that might be the best way to organize it. Since if you go to "All Page" you'll get some repeated entries, and some pages which aren't related.
This crossed my mind when I looked at All Pages and saw about six of them were redirects for Yu-Gi-Oh. I've got no problems with it. We'd just need to go through the pages every so often and update it.

I know about as much as you do for customizing mediawiki, but that certainly sounds good. The Format link should probably stay in the infobox (since that's entry-specific), and Index and All Pages could fit somewhere in the sidebar.
Pretty easy actually. If you go to the page MediaWiki:Sidebar you can edit it there. I mixed it around a little and got rid of a few of the ones we find redundant (donations for one) but stuff can be added there any time.

There's nothing stopping people from making their own infoboxes so long as they get used. They're mostly there because a lot of people (including me up until a few months ago) have no idea how wikicode works.

Also Pr there's not really an 'if' about it, all posters get approved. :)

Wow, I just checked the stubs page... 79 unfinished articles. Well I guess we all have something to work towards for the next couple months. Actually, it would be pretty cool if we could get them all filled in before the Spring season ends.
I would note that most of these are literally the Template copy/pasted onto the page and nothing else. I think if we're going to make stubs we should at least put in the basic details of the show so people aren't following links to shows and finding themselves with no info and a picture of Musashi staring at them. :v:

This, to me at least, looks like a basic Stub article. It's got all the neccessary info for someone looking to find out what the series is about, and all it needs adding is opinions, an expanded description and external links, both of which can be added by someone who's seen/likes the show.

Honestly I have to agree with BBM here. The Big O page is awesome and exactly the kind of article that gives a viewer a lot of information about the show without actually revealing anything that might ruin enjoyment of it (needs more Personal Opinion though :v:). I think we can all look at a page and see whether or not it is being spoiled overmuch.

Yeah I'm on Nate's side on this one. Really, what we had covered pretty much the entirety of what's up so far (and remember we don't actually have as many pages as we think we do, most of them are just templates and links). We can always edit them back in but right now they're just adding more dead pages to a wiki already cluttered with them.

An article is pretty much 'done' as soon as it has entries for everything except Opinions (which we can't really force people to give), so yeah go ahead and remove 'em if it has everything else.

If Pierson is reading this: is there a reason why you removed [[Category:Stubs]] from the Stub template or was that an accident? Because right now it says there are 0 pages in the Stubs category.
Yes that one's my fault, unfortunately right now since the {{FULLPAGENAME}} command directs to the old url (pierson.nulani.net) when used I edited it to be more generic, but this like you say removes pages from Category:Stubs. Right now I'm damned either way until I can get Nulani to have a look at it, it's probably something simple I missed when we bought adtrw.com and redirected it. I changed it back for now since at least this way we get a nice category. v:shobon:v

There's no problem with adding live-action or VN shows. The wiki is meant for the forum as a whole rather than strictly animation, and we do talk about those a lot.

TLDR: If we discuss it on the forums it's fine to make a page about it on the wiki.

If you're going to add a VN though please make it a seperate entry from the anime. For example if someone wants to write a page on F/SN would start by make a new page for the anime, copy the old page into that, and turn the old page into a disambiguation page (example).

So for F/SN we'd end up with three pages:

Fate/Stay Night (empty apart from links to the two below)
Fate/Stay Night (Anime)
Fate/Stay Night (Visual Novel)
