Speaking of fantasy comics about monsters being main characters and not all that bad with exceptionally lovely art, has anyone here read " The Mansion of E"? As far as lovely webcomics goes I think its one of the better ones and it has a frequent update schedule, so I just figured I would put that out there as another option for digressions.

If I'm being honest here, I mostly dislike Eugene not because he's so horrible but because the strip's so pat about him being that way. All you ever get out of him is increasing awfulness, even when it seems like there's something else there that'd be more interesting to look at.

I'm pretty sure Eugene's just bitterly sniping more than anything. He died full of regrets, can't get into an afterlife and is forced to watch his near-estranged son succeed where he failed constantly. Like, I get Eugene. He's bitter and angry and really, really wants everyone around him to feel the same way since he feels absolutely powerless to change it. He's deliberately needling Roy here because he knows Roy gives a poo poo and its an easy button to push to get into an argument. Its a really common form of depression

Aw, V. "Now that I'm dead, I can see that spending so much time on my family was a terrible choice" is a hell of a line. It makes a kind of sense from his perspective--if he'd focused on Xykon he would literally be enjoying an eternity of pleasure right now--but it'd be more accurate to say "rationally speaking, I shouldn't have gotten drunk and had a gnome carve a powerful mystic sigil into my back with a dull knife". Shugojin posted:Yeah he learned the wrong lesson But that's also because Eugene was a dumbass about getting revenge. Xyklon kills Eugene's master, and Eugene figures that he will just succeed where his master failed. He didn't even bother specialising or training on specific anti caster based magic. You could very easily build a Wizard who could deal with Xyklon's brand of spell blasting. (For example, a Wizard with a ton of items with Silence cast on them who can apply Silent Spells to their own casting.)

It seems like Roy tried really hard not to get into a fight with his dad this time. He apologised about the appearing when he's alone thing even though it was mostly his dad's fault for dicking around trying cool, he tried to ask him seriously about the sword, and he ignored the jab about not being a wizard. Unfortunately even with that they still end up bickering.

I didn't see this until just now but god bless:quote:I have been informed by the half-mad sorcerers who maintain the shrieking rituals necessary to wrench the accursed web server to some twisted semblance of life that lo, as the moon waxes these next few days, there may be interruptions in availability for as many as two score and eight hours while the unholy rite of DNS propagation winds its bloody way through the dark heart of the internet. But hear this oath: As the heartless sun sets on day of its name, so will the server burst forth— reborn and cloaked in the flesh of the unbelievers—to once again terrorize the land with its unspeakable thirsts and its stick figure fantasy comics. Let no woman or man say that fair warning was not given!

Well, at least Eugene isn't entirely morally bankrupt. Still a dick, but while "everyone dies and goes to the afterlife they deserve" is fine with him, "everyone dies and an entire race goes to hell because reasons" is unacceptable, which is better than nothing I guess.
