Un malheur ne vient jamais seul.
I was listening to this episode of This American Life and I heard this song just before 5:20, still in the prologue (which is why I can't identify it). It's that really laid-back song with the lead bass line. I thought I heard it in some bumpers for NPR. Is that a generic sound bed, or is it an actual song? It sounds like something off 1 Giant Leap, but I'm fairly sure that's not it.

This one's a longshot, as even Google failed me... I'm looking for the title and artist for the theme song from Baseball, Minnesota, the 1996 documentary about the St. Paul Saints. I remember that the song had the line "a year ago he never even got a second look" and its main chorus was "I just want to be famous" (but it wasn't that awful Puddle of Mudd song). I think it was an unsigned/not famous band. Anyone know?

This is really, really vague, but I'll see if you guys can help me.

There was a song I heard on a classic rock station about 7 or 8 years ago that I liked, but still don't know the name of. It started with a lengthy instrumental section which kind of reminded me of the end boss music from Final Fantasy VI (I think there was some organ), and then had some vocals. Note: It is NOT anything by Emerson, Lake and Palmer; I know because I have their entire discography.
If it's classic rock, then the most famous two songs that match that description are "Foreplay/Long Time" by Boston or "Funeral For a Friend" by Elton John. Those are probably longshots, though, because they're both famous songs.

There's also "Roundabout" by Yes.

Thanks; I really didn't think anyone was gonna get that. poo poo, you're right. Amazon, eBay, and iTunes have all failed me. That is some seriously obscure poo poo right there.

Time for another longshot. This song appears in the music montage at the end of the second episode of Starved. I have the montage music for almost all the episodes figured out; this is the last one. (Whoever made this show LOVES Jill Sobule.) Here are the lyrics that can be heard. I wouldn't be asking, but Google has forsaken me yet again.

The song is one of those laid-back guy-with-effeminate-voice-and-acoustic-guitar songs that sounds a bit like Jack Johnson.

I hear voices, Sound a lot like you.
Speak to me in riddles, from out of the blue.
The dangerous abyss, a lot like us.
I put up my defenses, you whisper in my ear.
I put up my antenna, you come in loud and clear.
Words just for us, mysterious but still I trust.

The communication remain [sic] open at both ends.
Beauty increases as time begins again.
I'll be in two places all the time.

There's this rap song I just heard in the cafeteria and I'm pretty sure I've heard before. There's a kind of high pitched voice that sounds muffled and it says MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY over and over. I'm sure it's popular but I haven't listened to top 40 radio in 5 years so please help me out.
Could it have been "For the Love of Money" by the O'Jays?

Captain Charisma posted:

Where did you get that year from? It came out on 9/11
Wikipedia says... and I find this hard to believe... Satellite came out in February 1997, and Youth of the Nation came out in 2002. How it took five years for a song to get released as a single is beyond me, but I'm guessing there's a discrepancy somewhere.

I saw this in YouTube video in the Daffy Duck thread in Cinema Discusso...

There's a song that comes on at 1:11 that's a really common composition in contemporary cartoons, and I've always wondered what the title is.

There's this song melody I have stuck in my head, but I don't know if it actually came from a song. Here's sheet music for what I'm hearing in my head (100 BPM, if that helps):

It would've been the verse melody, if it exists.

I've ruled out "Get the Message" by Electronic, "In the Crossfire" by Starsailor, and "Forever" by Goldfrapp. I think what happened was I subconsciously mixed them all into one melody, but I'm not sure. Has anyone heard this before? If not, I'm taking it!

This has been bugging me forever. You know the commercials for that game Pure that show the vehicles in mid-air and the cyclists posing and poo poo? Does that orchestral piece in the background have a name? It seems like I should have heard it somewhere. I've Googled and Googled, but I can't find anything. I can't even get the commercial on YouTube. Anyone know? Thanks!

I caught the end of a song today that sounded exactly like a U2 song. Aside from lots of variations of the word "oh," the only lyrical parts I could make out were "see what it's all about" and "see what's going on." It was mostly a solo that sounded like Edge and Adam Clayton playing. It didn't sound like any U2 song I was familiar with, though. Any ideas?

EDIT: I did try Google before posting this, and it failed me.

Another longshot. Here goes...

This is a song used as the background music in commercials for Ion Television, if any of you can find it. It's kind of a hip-hoppish song with a female vocalist and a staccato pseudo-violin hook. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

There was this Spanish-language song I heard just now in a bar, but I couldn't get to the DJ fast enough to find out what it was. Basically, there was this long horn solo that sounded like old-school Chicago, then the singer started singing in Spanish. Something about how "your parents don't like it when I'm at tu casa because I'm a drunk" or something like that. Like most of the songs that night, the beat seemed to be that pseudo-polka 2/4 rhythm. Any ideas?

I heard this song tonight that sounded like it was sung by Joe Cocker, but the instrumentation sounded like Ray Charles. The only lyrical phrases I could make out are "I don't care" and "I'm going home." It was played on a radio station that plays a lot of mainstream hits. Any ideas?

It's a longshot but I'm going nuts with this... I'm trying to remember a rap song that's one of those where one rapper makes a personal appeal to his friend to get his life together, and the chorus was something about the water, or getting back to the water. All I remember is that the group who did this song was famous, so that's why it's racking my brain that I can't remember it.

EDIT: I know it's not "Still" by the Geto Boys, if that helps at all.

There's this song that's been driving me nuts. It's probably classical, since I remember it being played on a violin. I remember it appearing in a movie during a ballroom dancing scene of some sort, but I can't remember for the life of me where it's from. In any case, here are the first two bars that I remember. I think the tempo's faster than it should be; this is all from memory.

So does anyone know the song that plays in the new Men of a Certain Age promo on TNT? It was in between segments on tonight's episode of Conan. It sounds like old school R&B, and all I could make out was "it's a new day" and "feels just like we're starting again." Google failed me on every permutation I could think of.

It sounds like something Moby would make, but I'm not sure. As you can see, the YouTube comments were... well, about what you expect from YouTube comments.

This is so embarrassing to ask, but… Today, I heard Pete Wentz's Hits & Misses on Hits 1 on Sirius XM while I was working out. The very last song was a remix of some other song. The artist even said what the original artist and track were, but I figured, "gently caress it, it's Top 40," and I stupidly didn't write down either. Anyway, the track seems like an excellent workout track. It aired at about 11:00 PM Pacific tonight (well, last night, technically). Did anyone catch the title & artist? I Shazammed it twice, but apparently it's the song's premiere, so Shazam was no help.

EDIT:
Took a while, but I found it! "Original Don (Black Cards Remix)" by Major Lazer. Thanks, man!
