He's made of plastic instead of die-cast so it's a bit more fragile than prime so don't huck across the room yelling "WHOOOOSH PACHO PACHO". The joints are kinda stiff which makes transforming him kinda tough and I'm always worried that I'll break something. The paint apps really do make the figure and even with the weathering Hasbro did, his colors are very bright and rich (like DVD prime) which make him look really cool. This is the best incarnation of G1 Starscream hands down.

I might head down to Walmart to see if they have any Starscreams tonight. I wouldnt be able to buy but I'd like to see it still. That white plastic is going to make dying for Thundercracker and Skywarp really easy.

In on this Secret Santa like Prime goin right up Megatron's rear end!

Ewww...

Anyway

I'm a pretty standard nerd in terms of what I like. I'm a college student at UC Santa Cruz and I'm a political science major. My author of the moment is Christopher Moore, and I've read Lamb, Coyote Blue, The stupidest angel, Fluke, and A Dirty Job so far, so anything like him or something of his I hadn't read yet is great. I really like slick looking robot figures with blades like this guy:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/...ail&picture=out

Pretty much every revoltech figure is awesome though, and I don't have any.

Winter is coming and hoodies are always in...I like ones that fit me and aren't all loose and lumpy. I like subtle designs that aren't gaudy..like this one:

http://www.backcountry.com/store/BU...1923&mv_pc=r111

not that expensive of course, just an example of what I mean. Oh and I wear medium shirts and jackets.

In terms of transformers I'm in desperate need of Decepticons, and I like ones with real world alt modes, or at least something that isn't a vague space thing like movie megatron's alt mode. My robot tastes extend to transformers, and the fallen and wreckage fit the profile quite well. My current transformers are:

Classics Starscream
Cybertron Cannonball
Classics Skywarp
Wreckage
The Fallen
Blackout
Real Gear Meantime
G1 Soundwave Reissue
Dropkick

I have autobots as well, but I'm really looking for 'cons right now.

I just got a new computer a Dell Inspiron 1520, so accessories like sweet mice, cool usb gadgets that are useful, and generally cool poo poo you can find on think geek or something are also likely to be well received.

I'm also a dandy gentleman and have been looking for dandy gentleman accessories like automatic card shufflers, flasks, watches (I really need a watch), Valets, lighters, cigarrete cases, cologne and other stuff you might find.

My favorite TV Shows are House, Heroes, Entourage, Dead Like Me, and The Office and I only have the first season of House on DVD

I like other shows but that's just to give you my tastes.

The G1 Magnus toy was a white and blue optimus prime that game with a transformable trailer that turned into the G1 Ultra-Magnus appearance. In the show however, they only showed his combined form and never the white and blue form because it was a separate character and I guess they didn't want the iconic look getting confused at the time or something.

It goes back to the original Diaclone toys where, if I remember correctly, the "Ultra Magnus" trailer/armor was an upgrade for the diaclone "Convoy" toy.

It was neat the first time they made a white/blue repaint of Prime as Ultra Magnus for the "Oh hey, cool! they're acknowledging that little piece of trivia!" factor, but because pretty much every UM figure since then(much like every scourge figure since RID, sans the Titaniums of both) have just been Optimus Prime repaints, it just comes off as a very lazy way to cash in on collectors without designing a new toy. Which sucks because UM does have his own iconic look which hasn't been reinvented much at all unlike most of the other iconic G1 characters.

RiD magnus was awesome however and it both upgraded his design while paying homage to the "ultra magnus is just some armor on a white optimus".

There are a number of good reasons to hate Robots in Disguise (lovely cartoon, a number of lovely toys) but UM, the three autobot cars, and the repaints of a couple of the original gestalts (Bruticus!) more than made up for it.

Teletraan-1 posted:

Why redecos?

The single most expensive step in making a Transformers toy is making the steel-cut molds required to hold then cool molten plastic. Add to this the salaries of the designers and engineers, and there is a very considerable expense involved in making a single new-mold toy. Many of these development expenses are not involved in making a redeco, giving the company a chance to make a larger profit on a single mold and put more product on the shelves with a smaller investment.

Another reason is that the toy market moves far, far faster today than it did when the line first started. Retailers do not like product to linger, and shipping older toys in new assortments can give the impression that some items simply do not sell. (Of course, some don't anyway, but that's beside the point.) With this much shorter sales window in mind, companies use redecos to keep molds in use longer (to help make back the money spent in development plus a worthwhile profit), and oftentimes keep popular characters still in circulation while maintaining a "fresh" look on the shelves, making the retailers happy.

Members of the Hasbro Transformers team have repeatedly pointed out that they never expected anyone to buy all the redecoes made; Aaron Archer was apparently baffled by the premise.

http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Recolor

tl;dr - New molds are expensive. Recoloring an existing mold lets them milk it for more money

Close, but no cigar. Diaclone Convoy and Powered Convoy(The later Ultra Magnus) were two separate releases, both consisting of the cab and a trailer. PC's cab is a different color from Convoy's as well. They were supposed to be just one character in Diaclone, but split into two for Transformers.

The reason we get repaints of Primes as Ultra Magnuses(Magni?) and Nemesis Primes is fairly simple though: The mold needs to be used more in order to make it profitable, and there's not much else you can turn an iconic figure like Prime into without having to do some remolding.

Let it be known that there are two Magnuses that didn't suffer the white Prime fate though, and those are RiD Ultra Magnus(Who is awesome) and Energon Ultra Magnus(Who is an blue, grey and red Armada Overload repaint with white Minicon)

I always thought that the white Magnus came from the Dream Wave comics. Didn't they show him breaking out of his power armor in one book or something? Just going off old pictures I'd seen.

Anyway I heard Ultra Magnus is supposed to be in the new Animated show so perhaps we'll see a power armor version again. I think the G1 Titanium figure was a good try but would have much rather had a Leader or supreme class. Hell even a good deluxe would have worked.

Smoke

Nah, Dreamwave's impact isn't big enough to have influenced the Prime repaint decisions. It's more of a cost issue, and Magnus isn't an important character anymore who deserves his own mold, just a good name to slap on a repaint and call it a day.

I knew DC And PC were sold seperately but the same character, that's what I meant to say but you said it clearer.

Also RiD Magnus was drat awesome, Energon UM... not so much(it was a poo poo figure to start with). It's just... coming from a guy who eats the nostalgic reinvention stuff(like Classics) up, I find myself frequently saying "oh come on!" at stuff like white and blue prime repaints. Yes. (not here, but they're showing up across the country; It's really a matter of if your store got it yet and then whether or not they actually put it on the shelf yet). I'd imagine stores that have whole shelves of DVD prime clogging up the transformers section may be a bit longer in reaching the sales floor due to lack of a place to put it.

Edit: Actually, I know they've been showing up across the mid-west, but it looks like neither coast has them on shelves yet.

Good concept I guess but are people really that G1 spastic that they have to turn everything into G1 or nothing? They have the sticker sets out for the classic Skywarp and Starscream that do the same thing. It looks bad on these figures that are supposed to look more realistic.

Anyway Reprolables new update also features movie Blackout upgrade sheet and Barricade upgrades. I could see myself buying both because Blackout really could use the 4500X on his tail. Barricade just looks more badass with the 911 on him also.
